Lugh, Dia, and Tarte enroll in the most elite academy in the Alvanian Kingdom. On the surface, the group is there to learn how to be knights, but Lugh’s real goal is to get close to the hero he’s been tasked with eliminating. However, Lugh winds up getting more familiar with the hero than first intended, and he learns that the prophesized savior’s power comes at a steep price. Being a hero isn’t easy, and when trouble strikes, will the assassin have to save the one he’s supposed to kill?
I continue to like all the characters that are developed in this story. I feel like the story is extremely fast paced, but at the same time I don't really want to complain about that. I think that the anime adoption for this volume that has been green lighted but delayed will be the perfect pairing for the novel. Everything that feels rushed and underdeveloped seems to be lovingly attended to in the anime adoption for the first volume and the first season. In my opinion, if you are a fan of the anime then the light novels are a beautiful way of giving you a fast fix to your craving for more. It also gives me great delight anticipating future seasons.
I think that the fresh take they have made for some of the character archetypes and direction for the story Make for a very satisfying read and recommendation. The author continues to give a decent dedication to the art of assassination while still having a human heart. I find the revelation of the hero's character to be fascinating, there's definitely a lot of edge but I think that having the hero struggle in the way the author has decided has made for a very interesting dynamic between our main character of the assassin and the hero. Honestly, I do not think the goddess could have made a better fit for the heroes right hand than the assassin who prioritizes life. The comfort his mere existence gives the hero has a beautiful and innocent charm.
I think it's the author were to add about a hundred pages or so to the story to fill out some of the parts that are very rushed the book would be amazing. Even so, I'm still satisfied and looking forward to the next volume.
I do not recommend you read this second volume. I thought that this light novel was actually pretty good on its first volume because everything the main character did, was positive, well done, logical, made sense, guided to his only goal which was to complete the objective that the goddess had made on him, to completely destroy everything the main character did in the first volume in this much shorter, nonsensical, illogical and senseless volume 2. From a pretty well written and thought out volume 1, volume 2 throws everything out the window and is filled with contradictions and nonsensical, illogical actions by the main character. It is illogical that a headmaster (principal) of a "magic school" who is not a noble and has no authority over nobles (main character is a noble) "forces" the main character to "help" and "chain" (by becoming his first friend) to the "hero character". The only objective of the main character in this Isekai LN is to assassinate the "hero character". In this volume 2, the main character becomes the punching bag for the "hero", so that the "hero" can actually become stronger. The main character "saves" the "hero" from the "boss demon" that attacks the "magic school". Main character uses all of his "trump cards" and hidden attack skills accumulated through his 16+ years of reincarnated life to "save" the "hero" and some of the rest of the students. Nothing on Volume 2 makes sense. The main character and his retinue had no real reason to go to this 2 year magic school. No real reason to be "forced" to help and become the "punching bag" and "friends of the hero". No real reason to "save the hero" from the "boss demon" and yet the author throwing away all logical sense, the main plot arc of this light novel and the easiest way to complete the only objective of his new reincarnated life (assassinate the hero). Does not do what he is supposed to. If the main character would have just not gone out of his home, then he could have completed the objective that the goddess required from him. All that would have been left was to later take care of the "demon king" and the story would be completed. What a way to destroy a light novel.
A decent novel. I was curious after watching the movie how it would proceed and the novel was interesting enough to read through quickly.
The hero is a monster as expected and he has his work cut out for him.
I expected more emotional dilemmas, politics, winning trust, betrayal, etc. But the author made that too easy.
The cause of the hero being responsible for the end of the world also seems to be obvious now. They could have teased it and slowly revealed something.
The pacing is very tight and so it's nice. It doesn't drag on. But maybe it's too fast and they didn't really flesh out some of the interesting characters like that Duke's son. They didn't really show us the demon kings side, or other political intrigue happening.
The assassin already has shown some interesting methods.
Him not having a harem but also having one feels irritating. Like pick a lane. He likes kissing them but he doesn't? They like it, why is he holding back? Or just don't have such a sister, friendship relationship in the way. Don't make it all so ambiguous. I didn't like the romance in this. His love for dia seems to be a remnant of his monogamous upbringing on earth. But they could have really exploring that conflict with local cultural norms.
Overall I'd barely say a 3. It's mostly a 2.

Definitely stick with this series because the next one will answer some important love-related questions while also still keeping you in suspense. At first, I thought this series was okay but the more novels I read the more I love the story. Also, has anyone noticed that every MC that was an assassin will refer to that fact like every other page this series and Hazure Skill make sure you never get that their title characters were assassins.
The narrative style is very direct and easy to follow, as expected of a light novel, but unfortunately the first person narration style detracts from the story. It is far more detailed than the manga and anime, but this detail makes it more tedious. Even then I'm invested in the story, so I'll keep reading the next volumes.
Lugh is an assassin, but also a good young (or is it old) man. His team of apprentices make for great characters and fun interactions. The anime covered Book 1 so here we meet The Hero, a noble rival, and the appearance of demons & monsters. Couldn't stop turning the pages and finished in a day and on to Boom 3! Highly recommend!
Can't wait for the next volume. This series is fun to read. The Hero and the Demons are a little over the top. The Hero going out of control all the time is kinda dumb. However I like the main character and Dia, and Tarte, are both amazing, wish Maha had more time..
The first book was better and I feel more calculated in the main characters actions. This book was hard to get through and some parts did not fully make sense. But hopefully the next book clears some parts uo
I enjoyed the second volume. You get to know the "hero" of the story and why Lugh was given the mission to "kill" them. I say anything else or it will be spoilers.
The character growth is great..the triangle love interest is perfect..what amazes me is the weight put on a fourteen year old but definitely good read..
Ok. Assassin is really living for himself and his happiness now. Great read and excellent sequel to the first novel. Picks up right where vol 1 left off and does not stop. 👏
So much nonsense about the hero being so strong and un-killable. Then one magic cannon strike and the hero is knocked out and could easily be finished off. Too much stupidity.
