A cute coming into magic story. June Porter, a professor, is concerned that her daughter, Medina, is not exhibiting any signs of magical abilities. Her main concern seems to stem from the loss of her parents to magical murder when she was sixteen. Without magic, Medina won't be able to protect herself. June's husband, Peter, and his parents seem to be of the opinion to wait and see. As Halloween approaches, some unusual things begin to happen. But nothing of any particular concern. There is a delightful ending; however, overall, this seems to be more of an introduction than a complete story.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.
