Chloe
He’s back. Jameson Maine.
The boy I used to love.
The man I love to hate. Hate like it’s a hobby. Like it’s my job.
Ironic, since love is my profession.
But with the passage of time, I’ve finally healed. Repaired the broken parts his betrayal shattered inside me, and silenced the haunting memories of what he took from me.
What he made me give up.

Jameson
She’s still here. Chloe Morgan.
The girl I left behind.
The woman I can’t let go of. No matter how many miles. No matter how much time.
Annoying, since love is my nemesis.
But with the death of my father, I’m forced home. To finally face the ramshackle remains of my family’s estate, and the lying woman who broke my heart and ruined me for life.
Who’s ready to do so again.

Tears were shed, lies were spread, and secrets were kept that fateful summer ten years ago. But no longer. Now exposed, those skeletons rock our worlds all over again. But two things remain the same…
Love.
And hate.

Jodi Watters writes contemporary romance that’s flirty, dirty, real, and fun. With witty dialogue, loads of emotion, and super steamy times, her novels will suck you in until the very last page.

Her love for romance began in junior high, when she and a friend noticed a dumpster of discarded paperbacks behind a local dime store. Covers missing and each book split down the spine, she scanned the pages for any love or lust words—and curse words, too. From that point on, she scoured the public library and the paperback racks at every store, reading anything labeled romance. She said a tearfully grateful goodbye to Judy Blume, and Jackie Collins began ruling her world.

She lives with her high school sweetheart husband in the desert Southwest, and just wants to be a stay-at-home dog mom.

Her lifelong goals are to think before she speaks, smile more and swear less, and actually weigh what her driver's license states she does.

For anyone who follows me, you know that 2nd chance romances is my go-to and 9 out of 10 times they get a DNF and either 0 or 1 stars from me because they have the same old tropes of a) 10 year separations, b) Hero moving on with OW & having a kid (or two) or becoming a Manho, c) heroine remaining frozen for his return and so on. In other words, if you read one, you read them all.

While in some ways, this one is slightly same of there being a 10 year separation which annoys me to no end BTW because why can’t it ever be 1, 2 or 5 years? Why must it always be 10 in which by then both parties have moved on and lived separate lives? Anyway, I digress. It IS different and that is where the similarities end because both (not just Hero) were with OP and no frozen heroine here!

Also their love story is different because you don’t have them jumping into bed right away and HEA. Nope. This one will take you through the ringer & back a couple of times, so have some hankies ready because it is a tear jerker!

Now you know that I always give spoilers in my reviews because when I want to read something I want to know if it is safe and what it’s all about. First of, it IS SAFE. There is no cheating – not in the past and not in the present. I can’t consider it cheating in this case if both of them were with OP during the 10 yr separation and while there is an OM in the story that heroine dated before Hero came back into the picture, she does not have any feelings for him & nor do they have any interaction other than a hug & hello. Also, there is a few mentions of their past sexual history during separation which I have quoted below in case it bothers anyone.

So that being said, this is one review that I do NOT want to give spoilers but I will do so only because…..well, I can’t help it!!!😜

I am going to hide spoilers and ask anyone who wants to read it to stop now because if you want to enjoy it (and I guarantee you will!), you have to go in not knowing anything about this story because it is THAT good and not to be missed!

So last chance, STOP NOW IF YOU DON”T WANT MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a story about a couple Chloe & Jameson who at 17 & 18 years old fell so deeply in love that not time or anger at each other could make them stop loving one another. It is an angsty, heartbreaking love story of what happened 10 years prior to Chloe & Jameson. They were manipulated & lied to by someone who should have been on their side and that cost them someone they loved .

10 years later, Jameson’s Father dies and he comes home to find that his Family’s home has been bought by Chloe. Sparks (both good & bad) begin!

This a different love story then what we normally get because these two have a deep love & hate for one another as they don’t have the facts of what happened in the past and are disillusioned by each other. As a reader, you feel their pain – mostly Chloe’s –

Now, I also need to mention that the setting was Long Island! Something that I am very familiar with especially with the towns and places they describe, so perhaps that was a bonus for me as well!

This a must read people and I highly recommend!

“Sit,” he instructed, kicking out the old wooden chair tucked under the table, pointing between it and her. “Talk.”
“Um, no.” Instead, she grabbed a bottle of wine from the small refrigerator, along with a grease-stained paper plate holding two slices of pizza. “I’m not a dog.”

---
“Love is a strong word, Jameson.” She pointed her dripping rubber spatula at him. “But not as strong as the word hate.”
“A familiar friend of mine. Hate.”

--
“I know you’re not good for me, but I can’t stay away. Why do you suppose that is, Chloe?” He stroked a wayward lock of her hair, the strands escaping her bun. “Why can’t I walk away from you?”
--
After ten years of rage and resentment, multiple women under his belt and a few measly men under hers, their sexual compatibility was still off the charts. To a degree that if there was any couple forever should’ve shown up for, knowing the sex would see them through the tough times, it was them.

“If only you could be a simple piece of ass.” Wincing in pain, he reached down to adjust himself.

“This zipper’s cutting off my circulation.”

“Then lower it.”

“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?”

“Umm, yeah,” she pointed out, gesturing toward an impressive denim-outlined erection. “You would, too.”

“Coming back here was a mistake,” he muttered

“Hey, be careful,” she warned, panic replacing her passion. “You’re gonna split the tops.”
Inspecting her three dozen drunk muffins, she shot him a dirty look. “These are for a paid event. I charged the bride seventy-two dollars a dozen.”

“Seventy?” He was aghast. “And you can’t fix the fucking air conditioner?”

“Seventy, plus two,” she corrected, in the same sarcastic tone he was using. “And I could fix the air conditioner, if she purchased two hundred dozen! Geez, what’s your problem?”

“My problem is this,” he said, pointing to his erection still raring to go. “Now I’ve gotta handle a boner tonight, on top of everything else. All because you couldn’t bother with a bra.”

Taking a moment to visualize him handling his boner, she couldn’t resist. “How exactly will you handle it? Slow and easy? Maybe light a candle, put on some stepsister porn, and weep in shame afterward? Or just jackhammer it out and be done with it?”

Slipping on an oven mitt, she transferred the muffins to cooling racks. “And where will it happen? The sofa? Your old twin bed? The daybed on the porch? No detail is too small.”

His smile was slow and positively sinful.

“The shower,” he said, but gave no specifics on pace. “And you’ve gone dirty on me.”

--
He looked back at that hope chest. An item deemed hopeless, ten years ago.
“I hate you, Chloe.” He whispered the condemnation, which sounded strangely more like an endearment.
So, why do I still love you?
He left without touching her.
Mission accomplished. Plan C a success.

HOLY MOTHER OF PETER! What is even happening right now?!

So, I just spent like, I dunno, FIVE hours, CRYING! No, not just crying, UGLY CRYING! I mean damn. WHAT A FRIKKIN STORY! Damn ...

Okay, let’s get serious and talk about this story for a bit. Yeah, it was emotional, obviously, but that wasn’t all it was. Not gonna lie, it took my breath away at times and it surprised the heck out of me. The prologue to the story sets the stage to the kind of story this will be. It sets the tempo. I knew the story would be charged in some way and I was right. Whether love or hate was fueling our leads, it was charged, and it gave the story and anticipatory edge to it. It captivates and it thrills. The author’s voice, new to me, was compelling and the story unfolded superbly. I mean I could not find a single fault in this story even when I wanted to slap our leads senseless!!

This is a story of love and hate and how easily one can flow into the other. It’s a story riddled with anger and betrayal and manipulation while hopeful and encouraging. It’s a real and relatable story that happens to many people. SO MUCH REAL! It’s not a short story by any means, so if you decide to jump in, be prepared, because you just won’t be able to put it down for even a minute! #trust

Goodbye Guy by Jodi Watters is part of the Cocky Hero World. It is inspired by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward's Stuck-Up Suit. It is a stand-alone novel and can be read in any order.
Goodbye Guy was my first book by Ms. Watters and boy am I hooked. This is definitely a book you must add to the top of your reading list, it is that good.
Chloe Morgan was forced to make a life altering decision at a young age and she blames everything on the man she thought she loved, Jameson Maine. She doesn't know when or how, but she vows to make him pay for his transgressions.
Jameson Maine is a Navy Seal. It was his dream since a young age and he made sure he achieved it. Determined to stay away from the place he grew up in, he settled down in Florida. After 10 years, tragedy and the sale of his childhood home brought him back.
Let me be honest, this book is a tear-jerker. I mean, I cried a little every time I picked up this book and it was amazing. I highly recommend this book. In order to feel as much as I did, you would have to connect to the characters and the way it was written absolutely does that. This story feels real and I could picture it all.
This new to me author has now picked up a new fan. I am definitely going to check out her other novels because of this.

Highly recommend!

This book is part of the cocky hero collection and is a great read. This authors style of writing is great and this is a great addition to the series. This is a real second chance romance read that will have you rooting for them both and the love that they both deserve in there lives after everything.

I love the way that this author has written the characters and watching the journey that they are on. This book has great banter between them both and awesome chemistry for a long time and this story flows beautifully and has love, hate and secrets and this book will have your emotions all over the place and your heart aching. Chloe and Jameson have to go through a lot before they get to where they are meant to be and reading and going along with them was a great read.

This book will defiantly have you reaching for the tissues while reading it and the reader is fully connected into the story. This authors style of writing is easy to follow and once you start reading this book you wont be able to put it down it will captivate you until the very end and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

OMG!!! This book was so freaking amazing and if I could give it more than 5 stars you bet your ass I'd be doin' it!! Jodi did it all with this book as far as the feels go, she makes you feel so many different things. I loved Jameson and Chloe and the banter and one liners are EPIC!! They meet as young teenagers and the bond and love between them is a once in a lifetime kind of connection, until something, and someone shatters their worlds and they break. Fast forward 10 years, Chloe is still in the same place and she's not really living, she's existing. She does something that brings Jameson back hell bent for leather!! There were so many instances where I wanted to smack them both upside the head and yell at them to TALK to each other about what happened in the past, things aren't always as the other may think it is, but they needed to talk and compare notes. Will they ever be able to do that, or is the pain, and hate and the desire to hurt each other more important? Will they find their way back or has too much happened, and too much time gone by....you'll just have to read Goodbye Guy and find out!! I can't recommend this book enough, this may be my first book by Jodi Watters, but it for sure will not be my last!!

Chloe and Jameson were each other's first loves until a decision made by someone else tore them apart. In the time since then, Jameson served as a SEAL, and Chloe's stayed in their hometown, nursing hate in her heart for the man who left. Now he's back and she still hates him. He's not forgotten his first and only love, but he's not thrilled with her either, especially when he finds out what she had kept from him for all these years. Will they give up the hate and let the love they've always felt for each other win out? Or are they doomed to be nothing more than first loves who can't even look at each other?

Goodbye Guy was a great second chance love story, although at times I despaired Chloe and Jameson would ever get their crap together and just communicate! So much angst, back and forth, argh, I banged my head in frustration at times. And I felt for them at what someone did to them, someone who was supposed to be a figure of love, but instead torched their lives with her coldhearted behavior. I wanted them to be a couple for a lot longer, be happy for longer than the last maybe chapter, and I wanted them to have resolved everything much sooner. That's why 4 instead of 5 stars. That's not to say I didn't like this one or think that it's not a great addition to the Cocky Hero Club, because it is. It's emotional and angsty, crackling with chemistry, and the ending is sweet.

Goodbye Guy is one of those books that steals your breath, your heart and your soul all in an emotionally packed second chance romance. Jameson and Chloe’s story is heartbreaking and will tear you apart. A story of young love, anger, trust, betrayal, lies and a yearning for each other even after goodbye. These two will take you on a roller coaster of emotions that will make you laugh, cry and everything in between. My heart ached as these two uncover truths that stood in their way. Goodbye Guy is a story that will have you captivated right from the start and unsure if it will release you even as you devour the final sentence. A story that is hard to say goodbye to, when all you want are more hellos.

PHENOMENAL!!! MUST READ!!!

This book has it all. Love, laughter, hate, anger, trust issues, lies, truths, Heartache, manipulation, and so much more. Be prepared to have your heart torn in two for a while. Have the tissues and chocolate handy. This was so well written I felt every emotion coming from both Chloe and Jameson. This statement "For every goodbye, there’s eventually another hello" fits perfectly in this book. This is the first book I've read by this author and I LOVED IT! If I could give it more than five stars I would. I read it in one sitting. I promise you won't be able to put it down.

Jameson and Chloe

These two were young and in love at one time. They had made plans however Jameson left Chloe. Ten years has turned that love into hate. When these two meet again their is such a strong connection, along with so many different emotions.
The story really brings out so much passion between the two. So many emotions and enjoyment. Great banter between the two and laughter really make the story so incredible!

As a teenager Chloe fell in love with Jameson and were planning a future together until they were torn apart and she holds him responsible. Time nor distance has lessened the hurt and betrayal she feels and now that he is back in town the pain resurfaces like it happened yesterday.

It’s been over a decade since Jameson left to pursue his dreams of being a Navy SEAL. A tragedy brings him home, but will Chloe be enough to make him stay?

This story takes you on an emotional ride that you won’t soon forget. You will feel the same pain and heartbreak that their time apart has brought as they must work through the past and find out what is fact and what is fiction.

This is a perfect addition to this awesome series. Chloe and Jameson were soulmates as teenagers, until she is forced to making a life changing decision which she places the blame on Jameson’s shoulders. Jameson left town to follow his dream as a navy seal, but tragedy and the sale of his childhood home brings him back to town 10-years later. Will Chloe and Jameson be able to have a 2nd chance at love? This is a beautifully written story which is a heartwrenching and deeply moving tale. This story is filled with misunderstandings, heartbreak, angst, betrayal, truths, revenge, witty banter, and love, which all leads to an emotional and humorous riveting and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.

It is very rare when a book leaves me speechless but 'Goodbye Guy' has done just that. This story is both heart breaking and gut wrenching- one of those books where you feel someone has sucker punched and ripped your heart out all in one go! The pages flowed wonderfully and the little hints of humour along the way truly reflected this couple's history.

But foremost this is a 2nd chance love story, a story of how fragile young love can be of manipulation betrayal, bitter regrets, revenge but ultimately love! Jodi Watters has managed to combine all of this in to a deeply moving book. Chloe and Jameson story is one not to missed - a story a guarantee once you start you won't put down - be prepared to be blown away (and maybe have a tissue or 2 ready just in case)- I know I was!

Jodi Watters, is a new author to me but I was really impressed with her writing style. An author I can't wait to read again!

Chloe and Jamesons young love was strong and even after all this time the love is still there but has also turned into a strong hate. This story was more intense then I expected and you can’t help but have them tug at your heart strings. There so much going on behind the scenes between these two it keeps you on edge until they uncover what’s between behind the surface

Wow! Just Wow! What a phenomenal addition to the Cocky Hero Club. This is my first Jodi Watters story, and it will NOT be my last. This is an emotional second chance story that is going to grab you and keep ahold until the very end.

Chloe and Jameson are two people with history and two different tellings of their story. What these two have gone through will pull at your heartstrings. The question is will they be able to let go of their pasts and forgive each other so they can have a chance at a future?

This is a beautifully written story with just enough steam to keep things interesting.

Chloe and Jameson's story is a second-chance/love to hate romance. Chloe and Jameson had a whirlwind romance in their youth and it forced Chloe to have to make a life altering decision. Chloe blamed Jameson for this decision and the blame turned to hate and her focus became making him pay. Jameson returns from town after following his dream to be a Navy Seal to find that Chloe is the owner of his childhood home. This book has an emotional aspect of Jameson and Chloe working through their past. There is also anger, hate, love, and laughter. Overall good story.

This book was so wonderful. Oh my I have a book hangover after reading this one. Jodi was a new author to me and I wasn’t disappointed. Jameson and Chloe have a great chemistry in this second chance love story. Jameson and Chloe were together at 17 and 18 but circumstances changed and with misunderstandings they parted and after 10 years they reconnect but they hate each other but do they really? This emotional journey as they rediscover their love had me hooked and I had to stay up to finish it. I definitely will be reading more of Jodi’s books. This book is part of The Cocky Hero Club but can be read as a standalone.

This book was phenomenal. I was wrought with so many different emotions reading Chloe and Jameson's story. Heartache, distrust, hatred, hope, wistfulness, forgiveness and love. Their young love destroyed by manipulation and non-communication. The years apart, and finally a possible second chance or at least the opportunity for closure. Just an impressively written, more than five star deserved addition to the Cocky Hero Club world.

Nothing about this I liked. It was contrived on every level - the conflict, the angst, the villain, the insistence of the h/H to misunderstand and their knee-jerk reactions to everything. Their immaturity was hard to stomach.
Could have done without the clichés, too - the 'I hate you, let's f*ck' cliché. Also, the objectification and the crass 'sexy' bits. I found their sex scenes and the descriptions therein revolting. It escapes me why writers feel that sex scenes or sex talk must be vulgar to be interesting. There's some shit I just don't need or want to know, like, ever.

My main reason for disliking the book, however, comes from a mother's standpoint. I unequivocally did not buy into the h's reasons for what she did, ESPECIALLY given the status of her family. No, no, hell no. It didn't feel genuine to me in the least and based on that, she deserved what she got as a result.

This writer isn't my cuppa, clearly. She is for others and that's fine. You do you.

Wow! Well worth reading all night.

In true second chance romance style, boy meets girl, boy and girl are inseparable, plans are made for forever that are cruelly manipulated and ten years pass.
From page one I was so caught up in this story I couldn’t put it down. Drawn into the saga of two souls still in love where the cracks of mistrust continue to cause confusion, fear, anger and sadness.
Ms Watters threw me on that rollercoaster where one minute I was swooning, then sobbing, then laughing, then angry (so angry) and then back up into happiness. Forgiveness and acceptance for both Jameson and Chloe, is a painful twisted journey.

Great writer

Jodi Watters is a great writer! This my first time reading a book by this author, and it won't be the last. Goodbye Guy is beautifully written. Chloe and Jameson's backstory of love and tragedy is beautifully explored as the couple tries to overcome their past. The pacing is good, and the ending is NOT rushed as so many other authors tend to do. The supporting characters are interesting, the setting is charming, and the balance of emotional scenes with romance is well handled. Highly recommend reading this book.

Okay read

Just an okay read that starts off with lots of bitterness and revenge. To be honest it continues through most of the book. Non communication and deceitful parent that allows a situation to get out of control. Good storyline that got lost in too much retrospective dialogue and just went on too long for me. An okay read

Too much repetition and took WAY TOO LONG for the truth to come out especially when could all guess what each thought by the fourth chapter.

3.5 stars for great potential and a storyline I loved. Almost 4 stars because the story is that good.

A well written book.
Both h and H were ok and had faults but done well.
But few pointers did not match, like why did he believe her bitch of mother or why did the h did what she did as she was from money and could have handled it but then again they were teenagers, so....

Tear Jerker Second Chance

Chloe and Jameson had a whirlwind romance in their teens and due to some unfortunate events and severe meddling ended up alone and heartbroken. Now ten years later, still fighting an undeniable love and mutual hate for each other they need to find closure. Well written, emotional, sexy read with some drama and angst but overall very heart felt and beautiful couple.
