Teddi, inherit’s her grandfather’s 150 acre farm in Vermont. It has a huge mortgage on it so she is surprised when her family, led by her brother plan to contest the will. Her first night on the farm she meets a man who says her grandfather owed him $ 225 for refinishing a dresser. She blows him off but later finds a note from her grandfather to pay him. She also finds her grandfather’s diary that explains why he left her the farm as opposed to someone else in the family. Teddi envisions the house as and associated barns as a high end antique venue and with Jake’s help she begins that process. Her grandfather had a « junk » shop attached to the house so after er cleaning out the barn she begins to move the furniture into the barn into the »rooms » that used to be stalls. Things are going well until someone burns down thebarn. Jake is so helpful, along with his two friends from Manchester, that have a helicopter, in saving most of the valuable furniture. The ending is a big surprise and a real page turner. I must find more from this trilogy.
they say writers should only tackle what they know. because this tale featured a budding relationship between the male and female protagonist leads, my advice to thus writer would be stop! what little progress there was in the wonderfully weird world of romance was so stilted and unnatural, it was more like flipping through one of those kids tablets they used to draw to imitate some primitive animation. or like flipping through a family album of snapshots that barely covered the story. the dogs seemed real enough, though, so I vote write about them next time. the people in this venture read more like paper dolls....
Mary Jane Forbes is an amazing author!! I started this book one afternoon and finished it the next day. I couldn't put it down. Mary Jane's style of writing keeps you clinging on and you just need to keep reading. Great story line with this book and wait until you learn the secrets that Jake has been hiding in his back pocket!! I can't wait to read the rest of this trilogy series!

Mary Jane Forbes has written an intelligent book, with a captivating plot and likeable characters. Her depictions of the Vermont landscape are right-on, and I say that as a Vermont native.
