Whithersoever: How the Fabled Blue Book of Lula Moses Fell Into the Hands of Ellis, the Unsuccessful Novitiate and Bored Nib-Cutter of Firthshire Abbey
Some men are great fighters while other men are great thinkers. Ellis was neither. Spending his days cutting quill nibs for the monks of Firthshire Abbey, Ellis had almost given up hope of a more interesting life when something terrible He fell in love with a beautiful and mysterious girl who would almost certainly get him into trouble. The story of Ellis Nib-Cutter has it all; cranky monks, agitated archbishops, insolent nuns, theft, escapes, poorly-told Bible stories, less walking than you might expect (those bits were cut out), instructions for crossing bridges, lots of stones and trees, a jolly toy-maker (not the one you’re thinking of, probably), some prophecies that may or may not turn out to be true, helpful people, unhelpful people, and many interesting words that you’ll want to add to your lexicon as soon as possible. “Lexicon,” unfortunately, is not among them. Whithersoever is the first book in what will probably be a trilogy, but could easily become a longer series, so don’t hold me to just three books. Thank you.
I love that we get to know the narrator's personality without the narrator being a specific character. I personally enjoy there being a mix of narration styles (between first second and third). I like that we see Lula’s prophecy come to fruition without being explicitly told right away “hey Lula said that was going to happen.” I’m mad that we never found out why the book is so valuable. But it’s a good type of mad that makes me excited for the next book. I'm very excited to know that this will be a trilogy.

I loved this book! I was totally drawn in by the characters and the authors unique take on things taken for granted. Thought provoking and delightful. Cant’t wait to see where Ellis’ journey takes him next!
