Two college students, Drew and Zach, have had a long distance relationship for quite some time, as they go to different schools. It isn't really a problem as they always connect through video calls or online.
One night, however, Drew can sense Zach's presence, as if his boyfriend is really there with him. The sensation soon disappears, though. Has something bad happened to Zach?
Reading, watching movies, and being unable to find exactly the thing she wanted to read have led Iyana to write her own stories, mostly about man-on-man romance that has fascinated her since as early as the Starsky and Hutch era. Teaching and writing English course books during the day, Iyana spends her nights mostly dreaming of love stories between two men who are protective toward each other.
In this very short story, Drew and Zach are in love, living a long distance relationship while in college. Drew has a quiet night of Skyping with his boyfriend planned and while in the shower he is surprised with his Zach being there. After a just a bit, Zach is gone.
Drew does find out that Zach has been in an accident and is in a coma in the hospital. Hurrying there, he can’t figure out what happened. He has to hope Zach wakes.
I liked the story, short though it is, but for the fact that the blurb gives away nearly all of it and the way Drew tries to wake Zach was a little off for me.
Last night, I took a much-needed break from preparing for my upcoming release by diving into Iyana Jenna’s short story (hot flash), Apparition. What a cool page-turner! Drew and Zach heated up the pages and then sweet-ed them up, if you catch my drift. If you need further explanation, I’ll say that Drew and Zach’s love is physical, but not just physical. Despite the story’s brevity, Iyana Jenna got the point across that true love transcends barriers.
