Ten years ago, Eric Buchanan ripped out Brenna’s heart and stomped on it. Having grown up in a werewolf pack without the ability to shift, Brenna already possessed thick skin but getting rejected by her true mate made her flee her childhood home and start a new life. If she never sees Eric again it will be too soon.

Eric might be the son of the alpha and set to take over one of the most powerful packs in the Rockies, but he has a secret. One so shocking and shameful, he’d swallowed it up inside and let the pain poison him over the years. If only he could see Brenna and make things right.

When lost pink mittens, a car accident and a fateful blizzard trap Eric and Brenna in a cabin, they have nothing but hot chocolate and time to sort things out. Brenna believed nothing could hurt her more than her true mate’s rejection, and Eric thought losing Brenna was the worst thing to happen to him. If they’re not careful, they’ll learn just how wrong they are.

***This story was originally published as a short contemporary romance called Be My Love: A Candy Hearts Romance. Although a number of the original elements remain, this story has been heavily revised to become a paranormal romance.***

Another great book by the talented writer J.C. McKenzie. Weaving well-loved tropes of enemies to lovers, second chance romance, and destined lovers McKenzie writes a unique tale of love that left this reader sighing at the end. Brenna has good reason to hate, but after being snowbound with Eric, she finds she has even more reason to love. I recommend this story to any reader who likes sweet romances.

REVIEW
One snowstorm, some candy hearts, and one voice in her head...
Brenna can't help that she has always been the one out...
And because her wolf doesn't want to come out and play she can't have the one she knows the fates gifted her. He shunned her... Or did he?
Eric hates that his family is constantly trying to wed him off.
He knows who he wants he just thought she didn't want him... Or did she?

Can these two find each other again after ten long years and perhaps a whole lotta love...
Wonderfully written story, with a whole bunch of heart.

This was such a sweet, romance story, perfect for reading on Valentine's Day. Brenna is a null, a werewolf who cannot shift; Eric is the alpha pack's son...they should be mated, but an incident at high school, ten years ago, sent Brenna running and never before has she returned.

On her way to her family's cabin, the day before Valentine's Day, a blizzard breaks out, causing her truck to crash. With no other choice but to blindly trek through the snow, she heads out to face the storm. Luckily for her, rescue comes her way in the form of Eric Buchanan, but in his wolf form she doesn't instantly recognise him. Once he shifts, the past hurts and rejections resurface. It's up to Eric to right the wrongs, as it is for Brenna too. After clearing the air a bit and getting to know one another again, a romantic weekend ensues, but is promptly ruined by the arrival of Eric's parents and his "future wife".

This book was really sweet and romantic - the ending gift from Eric was just perfect and truly won my heart over, so I can totally imagine how Brenna must have felt. A great, short read!

I received a copy of this book from the author to review, but with no obligation. This is my honest review though.

Such an amazing and easy read.

I enjoyed reading this book, with headstrong Brenna (werewolf who can't shift) as one of the main characters we get to see her past but also her future.

Stuck with Eric (hot alpha werewolf) in the cabin, can they make up for the past or do they make the same mistakes and just assume the worst?

It is amazing what happens when people actually communicate with each other (it can be good, but it could also be bad of course).

To find out what happened in their past but more importantly what happens in their future I totally recommend to read this novel as it is a wonderful story...

A lighthearted read with a touch of paranormal

This is a short stand-alone cozy paranormal novella, with a happy ever after, which is great for a quick, relaxing read.

The story is set over the course of a week, with the main characters reuniting after a decade apart and re-evaluating their feelings for each other while being stuck together in a remote cabin during a snowstorm.

The book reminded me very much of the contemporary romances which I used to read when I was much younger, with the addition of werewolves.

If you’re after something lighthearted with a bit of romance and a bit of fun between the sheets, this is a good choice.

This is a paranormal romance with wolf shifters so i could not resist discovering it .
It's a sweet one, (with some steamy scene) between a alpha werewolf and one that can't shift.... i loved to see how despite being an alpha he could see when he was wrong and Brenna is really a courageous young lady. ( i love her wolf part Maisie)

To avoid spoiler i can't tell you a lot as it's a novella so not long but i loved how shifters had to learn about themself too the rest you need to read and discover yourself.

What a wonderful story

I really enjoyed this fast tale of the two main characters finally fixing their misunderstandings (communication people) but like many of us when the heart hurts we often don’t stick around to chat. Oh but when chances present themselves...you have to dig deep and push through the pain and be vulnerable sometimes ... you might just get your hearts desire.

Great read.

This was an entertaining fun read of what happens when 2 people meet up 10 years after they were both stupid. Add Eric and Brenna, candy, and unresolved feeling with a dash of a blizzard and I was entertained with this quick read. I laughed and thought all the characters were interesting. There were a few moments of danger both physical and emotional that added to the story. Just a fun read.

A well-written short story perfect for the romantic Valentines season.

Some good descriptions as to the main characters feelings and motivations along with a specific werewolfy twist made this an enjoyable quick read inbetween heavier stories.

I love this sweet, heart warming, saucy story. Brenna shows strength, pain & a willingness to grab her future with Eric. Eric is down to earth with an alpha’s attitude. He’s also smarter this time around.

I always enjoy a good, quick read. Brenna and Eric’s story was a just that. It showed a lovely way to take something Brenna thought was wrong and show it in a completely different light.

This is such an easy read and I finished in one sitting. It's a romance story involving werewolves.

The story of two young werewolf in love and stuck together in a cabin... What's do you think is going to happen? That they would play monopoly? Of course not, but there's definitely a twist!

Eric being an Alpha fell in love with his soulmate Brenna, but unfortunately she's a null (just in case your wondering what it means... Null means unable to transform into her animal form and considered the lowest of the low in werewolf hierarchy)

Eric wanted her as an alpha mate but he know she's not compatible when it's come to the whole werewolf thing, but deep down his love for her was stronger than just being compatible.

Oh, Canada

Brenna, who has full on schizoaffective conversations with her inner wolf named “Maisie”, is on her way to her family’s cabin in the mountains during a blizzard. Because she is la-di-da unconcerned with the whiteout conditions, she doesn’t have chains on her tires, she is speeding, singing along to the radio, and has one hand on the wheel while she shovels fistfuls of those candy hearts that most adults throw into the bin into her mouth as she drives. She even takes her eyes off the road to read the silly messages printed on them.

Because the author wants to make all of the most obvious and unimaginative choices possible, Brenna inevitably crashes. She doesn’t just crash, though, she hits a snow drift and her truck launches into the air twisting and flipping before hitting a snowbank. From there, Brenna, who is wearing jeans and a jacket instead of base layers, winter outer layers, winter boots, a toboggan, scarf, or gloves, uses her emergency pack to cut herself out of the wrecked car before deciding to stay where she is for safety - of course, then very next time readers see Brenna, she is hiking through the whiteout blizzard, fighting wild wolves with a hunting knife, riding a wolf shifter, and falling down arse over tea kettle because she’s too ditsy to open her own front door. And once she arrives at the cabin - voila! Her cell phone miraculously works until the author needs it not to.

Once inside the cabin, the seduction is on. Neither Brenna nor her wolf shifter acquaintance, Erik, turn on the heat, start the generator, or load up the fireplace. Nope. They just walk in and start bantering. And it turns out that Brenna’s emergency pack was spelled by Hermione Granger because it is light as a feather, yet has everything anyone could ever need or want (except winter clothes).

At no point do any of the characters come off like they are adults, much less adults who are a hairsbreadth from 30. When Brenna shrieked and fell over because the lights flickered during the storm, throwing scalding hot chocolate onto Erik, I tapped out.

This review was originally published on Myth and Magic Book Club
Myth: 4/5

Short and sweet, a second-chance romance for Eric and Brenna. They weren’t even out of high school when they had their first chance, and with the concept of fated mates in play, let us just say it didn’t go well. Years older and stranded together over Valentine’s Day weekend they get that second chance.

Magic: 4/5

This story was focused on a short cozy romance, so it was light on the magic but you can expect werewolf dynamics. Though small pieces of the puzzle, I did enjoy the take on werewolves having a second persona in their head.

Overall: 4/5

A super quick read with excellent pacing and a bit of heat. This is a fun one to curl up with during a snowstorm, hopefully when you’re happily sitting inside by the fire.
