About the author

A former actor, theatre-director and drama teacher, Deary says he began writing when he was 29. Most famously, he is one of the authors of the Horrible Histories series of books popular among children for their disgusting details, gory information and humorous pictures and among adults for getting children interested in history. Books in the series have been widely translated into other languages and imitated.

A cartoon series has been made of the series of books and was shown on CiTV for a period in 2002.

The first series of a live-action comedy sketch show of the same name was shown on CBBC in 2009 and a second series is due.

Terry is also known widely throughout children and adult reading groups alike for his True Stories series (see below for series list).

He received an Honorary Doctorate of Education from the University of Sunderland in 2000. His numerous accolades also include the Blue Peter "Best Nonfiction Author of the Century" Award in the U.K.

5/10 at best. Mój streak dobrych książek troche padł na łeb. Tę książkę ratują przypisy, krótkie rozdziały i to, że bywa śmieszna, ale bywa też: żenująca, nieprzemyślana, a patrząc na zakończenie to nawet rozczarowująca w swym bezsensie. Nie polecę nikomu, bo jest za długa jak na drogę donikąd (chyba, że ktoś by czytał same przypisy). Pomyślałby ktoś, że mroczna historia o młodym złodzieju, w której humor opiera się głównie na grach słownych może mi nie przypaść do gustu? No cóż...bywa i tak.

Wiadomo miała swoje wady, ale ta książka była tym, czego teraz bardzo potrzebowałam. Pozwala się zrelaksować i nie myśleć o niczym poza fabułą. Bardzo polecam!

Książka była spoko, ale nie jakaś super. W ogóle się przy niej nie bałam, przynajmniej sobie nie przypominam.
Przypisy autora są super, idealne dla młodszych czytelników, rozdziały są króciutkie po 3-5 stron więc idealne dla młodszych, albo żeby przeczytać na przerwie w szkole.
Fajnie, że sprawa ukradzionego telefonu i zaginionej Mandy są ze sobą powiązane.
Szczerze to myślałam, że na końcu książki pomiędzy Mandy a Chłopcem coś się będzie działo (chodzi mi o watek romantyczny), ale i tak spoko.

This book was cool, but not very awesome. I wasn't scared at all with it, at least I don't remember.
The author's notes are great, perfect for younger readers, the chapters are short, 3-5 pages long, so perfect for younger readers, or to read during a break at school.
It's nice that the stolen phone and the missing Mandy are related.
I honestly thought that at the end of the book something was going to happen between Mandy and the Boy (I mean the romantic topic), but it's still cool.

A cute and atmospheric middle grade that was perfect for the autumn/spooky season.
The writing is funny and engaging and very much like thw horrible history series by the same author, which I used to love as a kid, with terrifying tudors being my favourite.

I have always had a irrational fear of wax works and the thought that they come alive at night, do I was intrigued by this and it didn't disappoint.
I loved the different people that were met in the different wax scenes, Charlea Dickens was by far my favourite.

I would definitely recommend if you fancied a lighthearted spooky middlegrade read

okay so this was a cute and interesting story a little hard to put down has to do with a thief named Boy and a phone powered by the brain 🧠 of a young girl and the adventures they go on in Wiggott's Wonderful Waxworld trying to find Dr Wiggott to sell him this phone 📱 he stole from another guy named Artful Loaf.. it's a crazy story that has you going wondering who is who and you get the chance to go through some history along the way as well as other crazy stuff as well enjoy. great for young adults.

No me gustó que el narrador me hablara 100 veces en todo el libro y que se la pasara rimando y haciendo chistes pésimos.
¿Por qué todos los personajes son taaaaan tontos?
Hubo buenos plot twists, pero no me gustó que los personajes estuvieron muy planos (no cambiaron nada) y que terminó abierto. Supongo que va a haber continuación. Pero muy flojo el arco de la historia. Y repito. ¿POR QUÉ SON TAN TONTOS?

He relives key points in history, such as viking invasions and Charles Dickens' era settings with the real Oliver Twist. The book is chock full of puns and humor to go along with the creepy wax museum. If you like humor with adventure in creepy settings, this one's for you.

This is technically a teen/young adult book I suppose, but it's a great story. I purchased because it supports a great cause. Very easy read, entertaining and silly. while called Terror Train, it is not scary. Perfect for those who love a good drama/comedy filled with "dad jokes". A book full of adventure and surprises.

4.5 stars, what a surprise treat! Very imaginative and laugh-out-loud funny. Written by the author of Horrible Histories that knows a lot about both history and fun :-)
