This is a second chance romance about Sadie and Lincoln. She left and returned. He is a rodeo regular and hasn't been interested in the traditional marriage and kids. Their past keeps them pretending that everything is normal. But in this story family and friends have roles to play and eventually they reconnect.
I really enjoyed the characters in this story. They were many and varied and added a lot of humour to the story. A very nice western romance.

This is a delightful sweet small town western romance. The story is well written and the characters are likable. Stone Ridge, Texas like the Old West has a demographic problem: men outnumber the women 5 to 1.

School teacher Sadie Stephens has been in love with her big brother's friend Lincoln Carver, since she was sixteen, but he thought of her only as Beau's little sister. He has abandonment issues, since his mother left not only his father, but her 3 children, and he grew up taking care of everyone else an not believing in love. Sadie left Stone Ridge to go to college and was deceived by a man she thought loved her, but was a cheater. Now she does not trust men. Sadie's BFF, Eve, was engaged to Lincoln's younger brother, Jackson, but was a runaway bride. She believed she was doing the right thing, sacrificing their love for his future, but since Sadie couldn't talk her down, she was held as an enabler by the Carver's and it left a fissure between the two families. Eve also went away to college, became a veterinarian, but something happened to her that left her deaf in one ear. She has never gotten over Jackson, but that is a story for another book.

When Sadie has a concussion accidentally caused by her klutziness, Lincoln feels responsible and refuses to leave Sadie alone after she refuses to go to the hospital. They find they have a mutual attraction, but they both have their issues. The story is how they overcome them, despite several bumps in the road.

I read an ARC from the author. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

The start of this new series based in Stone Ridge, TX will touch your hearts.
Sadie Stephens has come back home to be the new teacher in the town’s one room classroom. She’s looking forward to the children, and being back home. As to love, she was badly burned and hurt by love during college, and is skeptical of men. Except for the one she’s loved half her life, Lincoln Carver.
Lincoln is a rodeo cowboy , a rancher when in town and Sadie’s brother’s best friend. He’s also the brother of her best friend’s ex. Eva left Jackson at the altar, and Lincoln still hasn’t forgiven Sadie for helping Eva get away. He’s also a man that doesn’t believe in love. Look how his mother left her family without looking back. He feels he’s better off with the rodeo bunnies. No strings attached.
But Sadie with her sweet disposition, pulls him in , even more so when he feels responsible for the fall that leaves her unconscious.
As a sort of relationship starts, so do the doubts . Family secrets are exposed, and the inability to give his heart to anyone, might end up being Lincoln’s greatest regret.
Will these two find happiness, or will the past and circumstances keep them apart and heartbroken?
The secondary characters promise to keep us entertained for many stories to come in the future.
A great start to this new series.

Interesting concept of a small town where men outnumber women and therefore pretty much women in general are seen as precious. There was a lot of talk about everybody caring for the women and immediately intervening if a woman was even slightly mistreated by a man because another man could just swoop in to take their place. Yet, the whole Derek and his wife incident totally and completely contradicted these descriptions of the town.
As for the story, you get a cute, sweet story about two people jaded by their past. Lincoln is terrified of relationships and even though Sadie has loved him for ever, she's afraid of giving her heart away. You'll appreciate that the characters are honest, no annoying misunderstandings here. No petty drama just real fear of being vulnerable in love.

The prologue sounded interesting and compelled me to read on. But it went nowhere. I thought the hint of mystery in the middle would lift the book out of the dumps, but it turned out to be just the setup for another book in the series.

Readers will love reading Heatherly Bell’s enthralling new western romance about the small town of Stone Ridge and its population that consists of a minority of women and a majority of men.

Sadie has been in love with Lincoln all of her life. She left town to go to college but returns home when she got her college degree and after a traumatic break-up with her boyfriend. Upon her return, Sadie is hired to become the teacher of the first school in Stone Ridge.

Lincoln’s family owns a large ranch in the town. He runs it virtually alone since his brother has moved away to become a singer and his sister has chosen to become a car mechanic. Plus, after their mother leaves, their father starts drinking and is too irresponsible to do much. So, even though the children are very young at the time, Lincoln also takes on the responsibility of his young brother and sister.

Nonetheless, the highlight of Lincoln’s life is when he competes in the rodeos each year. He loves the experience and the travelling. And, he is also well-known for taking advantage of the “buckle bunnies.” Lately, he is spending more time on the ranch, and he has begun to notice Sadie. He realizes that he has become attracted to her.

This is first and foremost a love story between Sadie and Lincoln. Unfortunately, thanks to his mother’s abandonment, Lincoln does not believe in love and is afraid to have a serious relationship. Watching Lincoln unwillingly fall in love with Sadie is fascinating. And, the way Sadie handles him during this time is a delight.

This is a story where all of the secondary characters are as intriguing as the main ones. Sadie’s best friend, Lincoln’s brother, Pamela Ann, her son and her husband, and even Sadie’s parents, are all involved in interesting situations that will also capture the attention of the readers.

Sadie Stephens has been in love with Lincoln Carver for a long time but when a bride leaves her groom at the altar, the families remain bitter toward each other. She knows Lincoln, her brother’s best friend as well as the brother of the abandoned groom, is not for her. Lincoln still remembers Sadie helped Eve run away that day.

But Lincoln's grandmother decides to play Cupid and, when Lincoln refuses to go to Sadie’s school to talk to the kids on Career Day, his grandmother signs him up for it, only telling him at the last minute while he’s trying to fix a fence. He arrived at the school and answered questions, then they took the children outside to watch him rope a wooden steer. One of the troublesome kids said that was no challenge and suggested he rope their teacher. Sadie went along with it. He easily roped her, but she lost her balance, tripped over her own feet, and fell, knocking herself unconscious on the ground. She refused to go to the hospital when she woke, but got a hug from every one of her students. Lincoln feels guilty about the accident and asks her to dinner and drives her to the hospital to get checked out. Lincoln had avoided her all these years because of that failed wedding, but now they can get to know each other better. Will they actually get into a relationship? Can they finally accept the HEA waiting for them?

This was such a good story with awesome characters – and Lincoln’s grandmother immediately comes to my mind! She is adorable in so many ways, the glue that keeps the family together. Sadie would fit right into the family… if she and Lincoln finally “tie the knot”. Grab your copy and see what the future has in store for them.

At first I thought this story was going to be about a super sweet young woman who romanticized life, but then the author showed us the deeper emotional hurt that Sadie is steal dealing with even as she dreams of one particular cowboy.

Sadie has loved Lincoln since she was a teenager and he has barely acknowledged her even though her best friend was engaged to his younger brother. Sadie’s college boyfriend’s betrayal knocked her confidence in trusting people. Lincoln’s mother abandoned the family when he was young and then he saw his brother left at the alter, so he doesn’t trust in love.

This small town romance has lots of interesting characters and a close knit community coming together to take care of each other solve each other’s problems. Sadie asks Lincoln to come to the school to talk to the kids about being a rodeo Cowboy. The kids talk him into lassoing their teacher and then everything changes. Sadie a natural klutz trips over her own feet and knocks herself out. Lincoln feels guilty and decides to take her to dinner and then a quick trip to the hospital to get checked out. This event gives them the chance to really see each other for who they are and starts a relationship that still takes several wrong turns before finding a HEA.

I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. This was my first book by this author and the first book in her new series. I am interested to see what happens in the next book when Jackson comes back to town and runs a to his ex fiancée for the first time in years.

My podcast co-host, Meghan, and I both adore Heatherly Bell. She is definitely one of our favorites. We have had the honor of interviewing her for the podcast in Season 2 Episode 9. https://romanceontherockspodcast.com/...

My Spiciness Ranking

Heatherly Bell's books reliably fall in the jalapeño category and Lucky Cowboy is no exception. There are some deliciously intimate scenes but they're gently described for readers.

Now let's meet our main characters.

The Main Characters

Sadie Stephens is the heroine of our story. She's an elementary teacher and part-time EMT. I like to describe Sadie as a naturally clutzy, girl next door. She dreams of having a family and would like to have three kids someday.

Lincoln Carver is our hero and Sadie’s teenage crush. He's a rodeo ropin’ cowboy and rancher. He's not interested in anything serious in terms of a relationship.

Beau Stephens is Sadie’s brother and Lincoln's best friend.

Eve Iglesias is Sadie’s best friend and a veterinarian.

Jackson Carver is Lincoln’s brother. He was engaged to marry Eve but she left him hanging at the alter.

Jolette Marie is Lincoln’s "friend with benefits" from time to time. She's a buckle bunny and ranch heiress.

Judson Grant is a doctor interested in moving to Stone Ridge. He's also looking to start a family. And he's definitely a man with a plan.

The Storyline

Sadie Comes Home

Sadie has come back to Stone Ridge to teach at a charter elementary school. (It’s essentially a one-room school house situation where’s she’s teaching multiple grades.) Sadie is at the point in her life where she's ready to settle down and start a family.

With that in mind, her friends and family are trying to hook up Sadie with the doctor, Judson. And it makes sense at first glance because they’re both at points in their lives where they’re looking to settle down and start families and they ideally both want three kids. So it just seems like a good match.

Making a Match

But it’s really not.  He’s way too into his BMW and kind of egotistical. He comes on to Sadie REAL strong. And it doesn’t seem like he actually cares who he’s with, he just wants a wife to produce the three children he already has names for.

And even though it seems like they want the same thing with starting a family, there are some key differences in Sadie’s and Judson’s personalities. For Sadie, having three kids is just a general plan and she understands that in life you need to be flexible and she doesn’t have a set timeline or anything. Judson, on the other hand, has a VERY specific (and almost unrealistic) timeline and plan in mind and a wife just honestly seems like she’ll be an accessory to that vs. a partner.

In the midst of these awkward and sporadic dating moments with Judson, there’s some flames igniting between Lincoln and Sadie. She’s had a crush on him since she was a teenager and now they're well into adulthood. (He’s 32 and she’s 28.) They find themselves spending more and more time together and even share some steamy kisses here and there. However, Lincoln keeps trying to play it cool.

He often seems like he’s ignoring her on some level and there’s this lingering rift amongst Sadie, Lincoln, Jackson and Evie and all they’re respective families because of Evie leaving Jackson at the altar a few years prior. Sadie and Evie are besties so when Evie was like, I can’t go through with this marriage, Sadie supported her and helped her leave the church. (What else is your best friend supposed to do?) Sadie was just being a solid friend but Lincoln’s held it against her because his brother got his heart broken and she was part of the drama.

Eventually, though, Sadie just can’t see herself getting into a serious relationship with the Doctor, Judson. And she’s always had a thing for Lincoln and those feelings haven't dissipated. Judson's personality is pretty lackluster and he seems to have a fragile ego. Not ideal. And Sadie's father encourages her to focus in finding Mr. Right.

“You have plenty of choices,” her daddy said. “Marry a man because you love him, not because you need him.” Her dad has also given here these words of wisdom, “Don’t settle, baby. Never, ever, settle.”

Falling for Lincoln

Sadie decides to really go for it with Lincoln and hopes they can get past all that old drama. She gets all dolled up and tried to flirt with Lincoln at the townie bar but she’s a naturally shy, clutzy and awkward girl. (Can anyone else relate to this?) Sadie flirts with him but it doesn't feel like it's working. So she gets flustered and decides to get honest and real with him. She tells him she likes him and admits she doesn’t know how to flirt. Which I absolutely applaud Sadie’s honesty and straightforwardness. She says, “I don’t have any ready-made plans for this. For us. I’m wide open. I just like you so much and I want to be with you. I want … more kissing.” She looked up shyly. “Is that alright with you?” Lincoln’s response: “Sign me up.”

From there the relationship grows but we see some meddling from Jolette Marie who, as mentioned earlier, was Lincoln’s friend with bennies. She’s jealous of the growing romance between Sadie and Lincoln. Sadie’s past relationship trauma (in the form of a cheating college boyfriend) also presents challenges and hurdles to overcome, especially in conjunction with Lincoln’s lingering feelings about the Jackson/Evie drama.

I’m not going to say anymore about the storyline from there because I don’t want to spoil the book. I think it’s worth the read and a really lovely story.

What I Enjoyed About the Book

I enjoyed sooo much about Lucky Cowboy. Every part of the story is realistic and relatable -- from the dialogue to the relationship challenges. There's great communication from Sadie at various points in the book as she tells Lincoln that she really likes him and what she needs in their relationship. And I really do love when people communicate important things like that.

What Challenged Me About the Book

I had absolutely no challenges with this book.

Final Thoughts

Lucky Cowboy is a lovely Cowboy romp. It's wholesome with some softly steamy stirrings of love. And Heatherly Bell's writing is truly fantastic in this book and she created some truly beautiful moments in the story.

Awesome read!
All it took for Lincoln to fall for Sadie was to lasso her instead of a wooden steer...
He a roping cowboy in the rodeo circuit, the oldest of 3 kids, part time father to his siblings and his family problem solver. When he tours all he cares about is the buckle and the bunnies and he’s a happy camper. Never getting married, no kids and never had a committed relationship. He’s a pump’em and a dump’em kind of man. We will have to see an obsessed lady in town that don’t know the word commitment to one man means. She tries to get Linc a few times and even suggests men can be cheating behind their ladies backs.... trollop!

Sadie is the new teacher for their tiny home town where men are in abundance and women are few. Sadie is, no was a sweet naive girl until he went to college and was suckered in a relationship until truths came out that killed her sweet nature. People think she’s a pushover but people will get a big surprise when little Sadie puts her foot down. So when her long time crush Lincoln is around she turned into her klutz-y self and feet gets all tangled up and she literally falls to the ground in front of him.... but can this stubborn playboy of a cowboy be tamed by his best friend’s little sister or will he play her like a fool and have her heart crushed all over again???

I have a confession to make. I received book 2 Nashville Cowboy before this one and I loved it so much I wanted to read the first book in the series. I am so glad I did because this explained some things that I ddin't notice in the 2nd book. This is the start of the series about a small town in Texas where there men out number the women.

In this story we meet Lincoln and Saidie. Sadie's bestie, Eve was engaged to Linc's brother Jackson when she did a runaway bride thing, for years Linc was pissed at her for supporting Eve. Now years later Jacckson's moved on, Eve's a Vet in town and he finds himself attracted to the new school teacher in town, Saidie, who was previously living in another town until she gets offered a job as the new school teacher.

When the new school teacher, has the worst first day ever she meets Linc again and he her, and they discover an attraction but she is a good girl and he has no plans to settle down. Until he ends up lassoing her and giving her a concussion which ends up with their first date.

If that sounds fun, this book was very fun and I am so glad I read it. These two were really awesome together and so sweet, romantic and fun.

I was given this arc for an honest review.
The first book in a new series has Sadie coming home to a small Texas town to begin as a school teacher. She also has had eyes on Lincoln Carver since high school, but some kind of family feud has kept them apart. Also, he is not looking at settling down. He wants to work the ranch and go out on the rodeo circuit when he can.
His grandmother has other ideas and when she gets him to go to the school one day to demonstrate his roping skills the children want him to rope miss Sadie. Well, that does not go so well and she ends up on the ground, and then when she wakes her head is in his lap. That part is not so bad. It’s when he takes, he back to her place and there are rows of flowers and boxes of candy from the local men in town. You’re wondering if Lincoln got her anything? Yes, he did an ice pack, aspirin for her head, and gum never knew what the gum was for. He is always practical. If she wants Lincoln that is what she is up against.
This is a very good story with wonderful characters and sad to say I could relate to Lincoln so the author must know someone like the character. Very much worth the read. I received this book from Netgalley.com. I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

ETA: The audiobook of this is out now, and it was fun to revisit this story. I particularly enjoyed seeing characters pop in when I knew what their future stories would be. The narrator did a good job with the accents and voices.
I am really enjoying the town of Stone Ridge! I love the people there and how they take care of one another.
The town is finally getting an elementary school, and Sadie has come back to town to be the teacher. She meets the challenge of teaching 20 kids of different ages pretty well. But the challenge of staying away from her former crush, Lincoln, is a different story. All kinds of craziness happens, and they end up as a couple. But they each have emotional hurdles to clear before we can get to the happy ending. I loved the chemistry between them as well as the history they shared from growing up knowing all the same people.
There is a lot of history going on between the members of Lincoln's family and some of the other characters in the book. I am really curious about all of that will work out over future books. I liked all the secondary characters, so I want more.

Sadie is fierce and loyal and loving, and those traits have gotten her in trouble on more than one occasion. To the point that she’s not sure she can trust her own judgement anymore. Lincoln is strong and stoic. His mother’s betrayal of their family has left him unable to believe in love other than what he feels for his brother, sister, father, and grandmother. They’re both lost souls and wounded by love in their own ways. Will they find healing together or repeat the mistakes of their pasts? Oh my gosh! This book was fun, funny, and a bit of an emotional roller-coaster. With hints of a second chance romance (even though this pair were never actually a couple) and all the sweet small-town charm, this story pulled me into it and wouldn’t let me go. The angst this pair goes through as they try to navigate their way nearly broke my heart. I couldn’t help but cheer for Sadie and Lincoln to find their way. The always quirky and sometimes meddlesome supporting cast nearly ran away with the show several times. And now I think I’m falling in love with the town of Stone Ridge.

Oh, the heat is HOT, and the physical chemistry is captivating so be careful you may just get burned all the heat coming off these pages. There were some "oh no" "oh wow" " what the what" moments and add in uncanny mishaps, and shenanigans the good kind that makes you keep turning the pages till last page has been turned. Lincoln is this very sexy cowboy with issues and his issues have issues. Sadie is a sweet, kind, loving and doesn’t want to wear the title of good girl but the reality is that’s exactly what draws others to her. She is in town to be a teacher to 20+ kids of different ages and she loves it. She has always had a crush on Lincoln and the chemistry is still there between them that magnetic pull is still just as intense as it was when they were younger except this time, they have more issues to accept and deal with before they can find their happiness but are, they both willing to put in the work?

Okay, I totally believe the women in this town have a group called S.O.R.R.O.W. It just fits into the theme of this book! The basics of the story behind the town are that there are too few women and many, many eligible bachelors. And you just know that hijinks will ensue.

Sadie Stevens is sort of a town sweetheart in Lucky Cowboy, doing good wherever she goes and is the first school teacher (in many years), with the most adorable students. Lincoln Carver is one of the good guys in town – a cowboy with tons of responsibilities. He and Sadie have a history but it is a big part of the plot so no spoilers from me. I loved these two, with their broken-ness and broken hearts. They learn that they are good together and for one another. Lincoln is a good man and Sadie is truly a sweetheart with a solid backbone (when she learns to trust it). And then there are the women in S.O.R.R.O.W… Fun and touching story.

Heatherly Bell’s first book, Lucky Cowboy, in the Men of Stone Ridge series came right out of the gate with a truly high bar to measure up to with Lincoln and Sadie’s story. The humor was subtle yet laugh out loud funny...case in point: Lincoln was painfully honest which left me laughing at some of the things he’d say to Sadie...then mentally palm his face after he’d said them. Small town life was depicted quite realistically...with a whole cast of quirky characters who were, for the most part, endearing.

There were several intertwined stories occurring simultaneously, what could have been confusing was orchestrated seamless in order for the story to run smoothly, while keeping the reader engaged and emotionally invested.

I’m anxiously awaiting the second book in the series, Nashville Cowboy, Jackson and Eve’s story.

This was a fun, quick read that hit all the feels. It’s a best friend’s little sister story. It’s a long-time crush story. It’s a he’s a love ‘em and leave guy, while she’s a commitment and picket fence kind of girl. And yet we somehow get our HEA. Sadie comes home to small town Texas for her dream teaching job, only to fall through the termite eaten floor on the first day. She runs into Lincoln, her long-time crush, who barely gives her a polite howdy, and it just gets better from there. We’ve got the gossiping-grandma-town-busybodies playing matchmaker in a town with significantly more men than women. Parents with marital issues, brothers dating women of questionable repute, and a best friend still in love with the man she left at the altar. It’s a non-stop story that i really enjoyed. Four and a half stars

Lucky Cowboy is the first in Heatherly Bell's new series set in Stone Ridge, Texas.

Sadie Stephens has long held a torch for Lincoln Carver but aside from an embarrassing incident involving a lasso, she knows they aren't destined to even continue as friends, much less more. And they're determined to bury whatever feelings they have and play nice for the sake of small-town peace. But Lincoln's meddling grandmother is determined to exercise her matchmaking skills, and grandparents can certainly be a force to be reckoned with!

Heatherly Bell's story is entertaining and enjoyable, and her writing brings the residents of Stone Ridge to life. Sadie and Lincoln and their friends and families brought a smile to my face as we see whether Lincoln truly is a lucky cowboy :)

Sweet story:
This small town western rom was a great start to a new series. It drew me in from the very beginning and I found it to be both interesting and entertaining.
Sadie was the kind and sweet new teacher in town who had fallen for Lincoln years earlier. The hunky rancher/rodeo cowboy was initially closed off to the idea of a relationship and settling down yet ultimately was unable to resist her charms. There's was a sweet yet spicy story and I was pleased when things worked out for them.
There were some querky residents in this small rural Texan town and I especially liked the strong community spirit. I look forward to seeing what happens between Jackson and Eve in the next book.

Lucky Cowboy is the first book in a new series Men of Stone Ridge from Heatherly Bell, who also happens to be a new author to me.
I found Lucky Cowboy on Booksprout and I can honestly say that I completely loved it.
The chemistry between the two main characters Lincoln and Sadie was so good. The plot worked very well indeed, an incredible clean romance that has you gripped from the first page until the very last.
I was drawn into the story from the start. It`s brilliantly written so much so that I felt I was there too.
I'm looking forward to the next one in the series, and I think I have found a new author to add to my collection.
I highly recommend this book.5*

I loved the first book in the new Men of Stone Ridge series by Heatherly Bell. Stone Ridge, Texas is a charming small town where the eligible men greatly outnumber the eligible women.

This is a second chance romance where there was really no first chance. Sadie has been in love with Lincoln since she was in high school. Lincoln thinks of Sadie as his best friend’s little sister. Lincoln is a rodeo cowboy who has come home to help run the family ranch. He has no interest in settling down, but his meddling grandmother has other ideas.

I enjoyed this start to the new Men of Stone Ridge series. Ms. Bell has written a delightful story with engaging characters. I fell in love with Lincoln and Sadie’s story and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Sadie Stephens is best friends with Eve so when Eve became a runaway bride from Jackson, Jackson’s family took out their anger out on Sadie also. As Sadie Stephens was in love with Jackson’s brother Lincoln since she was young, she tried to move on. Ending with a guy she planned to marry, she found out that he had been cheating on her for the four years they had been together. She moved back to her home town but was carrying trust issues. As she has always loved children, she is going to be the first school teacher in their very small town and when Lincoln accidently injured her, his guilt made him protective. A really good story. Lincoln and Sadie grew up in this small town, went their separate ways, and now Sadie is back to be their first school teacher. They still have crushes on each other but so much has happened since high school. Feuds, accidents and miscommunication cause a lot of grief, especially the accident in front of all her students. Lincoln and Sadie start up a romance but then he does something stupid like saying she should date other guys. He soon realizes he is an idiot, but then another situation happens that threatens her life and he has to come clean with his feelings. Loved the part where he finally woke up and did the right thing for them.

Loved the book it was great, the story was written well and the characters were interesting. This story of Lincoln and Sadie was captivating to read. Sadie left town for college and came back a qualified teacher she also had a bad break up before coming home with a broken heart. Lincoln has had a rough time growing up he does not believe in love, mum left the children with the father then he turned into an alcoholic, so that left Lincoln to grow up quick and look after his siblings. Sadie decided to help him with the children after allthey had history and they are good friends. Will they eventually fall in love.

Oh Lincoln!!

What if your long time crush suddenly became your enemy? And you tried to move on (it was a disaster) and now you're back in your home town, seeing your old crush (who you are still secretly crushing on) every day? Welcome to Sadie's world. The sunniest, sweetest woman on the planet has had a bad few years. But she is back home, opening the new school and ready to move on. But is is Lincoln ready for this new, grown-up Sadie?

I loved these characters. Both had some bad history that could have broken them but their love was so strong. I can't wait to read the next in this series!
