I really liked it. Very enjoyable. I think it is the last of the series. I’ve read them all and they were so entertaining. This book was just what I needed today.
Book 5 of the series but reading prior books not necessary
Content warning: bullying

Review: My Enemy Boyfriend is a short (212 page) story that follows Kai Taylor (Taylor) and Mackayla Lafelle (Mac) through their junior year. Taylor is a conceited jock who is loved by all, as long as he is the basketball team's star. Mac is a nerdy girl who is not falling for any of Taylor crap, even if his is gorgeous. She is definitely not what any high school student would call 'popular' and that is a-okay with her. She hates being the center of attention. But... when is high school ever that easy?
After being nominated prom queen, something no junior has ever won before, Mac becomes the center-of-attention, but not in a good way. Click, a gossip site, has taken to making fun of her and claiming she cheated to get nominated. Kai becomes featured when the word spreads he can no longer play basketball because he is failing (god forbid) an elective class. But their video game production teacher decides to step in. Mac needs to learn to work well with others. Kai needs a tutor. What better solution is there then pairing them together?
I really like how Kai and Mac team up to tackle the school's biggest problem and seeing their characters (and relationship) develop. This has the feels of insta-love, even though it's not quite that. It's more a a high school romance that blossoms quickly? But of course teenage drama is the worst and makes life hell.
I really enjoyed this story. The pacing was great and at no point did I feel like things were left hanging. With shorter books I am often left wanting, but this wrapped up everything in a satisfying way. While I did not read the first four books, I have a feeling the end would be even more impactful if I did. I am in love with Emily Lowry's writing and cannot wait to read more from her.
Now that I'm not in high school myself, I've been reading fewer and fewer books that have their plot in school and characters this young. And that's because I've changed and it's really hard now to find those books that satisfy me. This one did and though after reading one, this last one drew me most, I want to read the rest.
It was a sweet, funny, romantic story with just enough drama to stir some feelings in my stomach but not push me away. It simply wasn't overdone and I'm glad. It was a pleasure reading it.
Kai is a jock, technically, but despite being a star in his field (or on his court), he came across more like a seemingly confident but actually insecure about himself boy. His self-belief was lacking and his ego was carried solely by his success in basketball. Right off the start though, that was taken away from him and he was vulnerable. I won't spoil more about him but that's how he connected with Mac.
Despite being next-door neighbors, they couldn't be further away from being friends. They were opposites who because of - or thanks to - a teacher were put together. And maybe Mac has to be bribed a little. But from there on, with a reason for spending time with each other and a second reason birthing from an idea, changing a nightmare of a situation into a purpose for more, Kai and Mac each got a closer look at their next-door neighbor.
Because of the blurb, I knew there were dark clouds hanging above their budding friendship and more, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the journey. And really getting into it. And feeling all kinds of emotions with the characters because I've become just that involved.
All in all, it was well written and made me hope that after I read this series whole, I'll find more of books like this one, by Emily Lowry.
Mackayla Lafelle is a nerd and not popular at Evermore High. So when she is nominated for Prom Queen, she knows someone is out to humiliate her. When Kai Taylor, a talented basketball all-star, failed his Video Game Production class and is thrown off the team, he needs her help. He needs to be tutored so he can bring up his grades and get back on the team to take them to a state championship. In desperation, he makes a deal with Mackayla to make him proficient in his Video Game Production class and in return he will help her become Prom Queen and defeat whatever some enemy has planned for her.
Mackayla isn’t sure this will work. Kai is not her friend and she doesn’t trust him. Yet as they work together, he is different. They actually do develop a friendship and respect for each other. And maybe that friendship is beginning to turn to something more.
But the person behind all the negativity was trying to work her cruel plans through blackmail. Mac called her out on it, and with love and kindness in her eyes, asked her to do the right thing for the right reasons. But she never forced her. Would the guilty party straighten out the tangled lies she had spread? Would she stand up for what was right, fight against Click and bullying, and promote positivity throughout her fellow students? Winning as Prom Queen didn’t matter anymore. Ending the bullying was what it was all about. Around the ballroom, everyone was suddenly looking at their phones as a stream of Click blasts hit the entire student body… what was the message being spread now?
Enemy’s to lovers. Standing up to bullying. Being true to yourself. This book had it all. Kai and Mac were complete opposites who didn’t get along. Through a shared problem, they put aside their differences and help each other. Sparks fly, things get complicated and love gets messy.
Mac is insanely smart, sophisticated and confident in her on skin. She doesn’t mind being in the background, observing from a distance. Her relationship with her brother is so beautiful and genuine. She is a fighter and stands by what she believes in.
Kai is an arrogant, popular and skilled athlete who is misunderstood and is a people pleaser. He hates disappointing people and looking unintelligent. He is determine to prove them wrong and put an end the “dumb jock” narrative.
Kai and Mac went through a roller coaster of emotions on their journey but where they end up was spectacular. By helping each other out, they both gained a confidence they didn’t know they needed. And it was beautiful. I loved the awareness around bullying throughout the series, and social media in general, and the conclusion to help take a stand against it.
What a journey this series has been. I honestly can’t even begin to describe all the emotions I’ve had while reading but I’m just so happy I did. All of the characters have become apart of me and I will reflect on them for a long time.
Kai needs help to pass his video game production class or he won't be able to play basketball. The only person who can help him is his neighbor Mac - and they've never been anything that anyone could consider friends. But she's just been nominated for Prom Queen and he could help her win.
This was your typical jock and nerdy girl romance but with a twist. Of course, there's the mean girl, but there are also a bunch of popular girls who are more than willing to help Mac in her unexpected bid for Prom Queen. I loved all of the characters and how all of these little threads were woven together.
There were a few things that I wasn't clear about, though. Was the gossip messaging app school-sponsored or was it something that just popped up and the students ran with it? And was (that person) the only one who could post to it? And what was the secret that (that person) had that she was going to spread to the school about Mac's brother? While I was reading, I was able to overlook a lot of the questions that I had in my brain, but it did feel a bit like there was some information missing.
But otherwise, it was a great book. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

This is part of the Rumors and Lies series, book #5 and the last one to complete the interconnected series. Can be read as a stand-alone ,but to get a better reading experience I suggest reading the other 4 as all the characters make brief appearances with in the books.
This books is about Mac and Kai, its an opposites attract/enemies to lovers book.
Mackayla or known as Mac lives next door from Kai Taylor. They absolutely can not stand each other in the beginning. They are total opposites and run in different circles.
She is this red headed “weird” girl who is perfectly fine living her introvert life not being bothered, until fate throws a curveball and she has to tutor her neighbor Kai. I absolutely love the bond she shares with her little brother.
Kai is a popular, hot and a Jock. He finds himself academically in trouble and will not be able to resume playing basketball unless he gets his grades up.
They quickly learn they are not what the other expected and end up falling in love. But wait! This wouldn’t be a Rumors and Lies book without any angst!! This book may be all kinds of sweet and very clean but it sure packs all the teenage angst. With realistic feelings and issues.
What a perfect way to end the Rumors and Lies saga! Loved it!
What a satisfying end to this heartfelt YA series! I’ve read all the books but you don’t need to in order to enjoy this one. It just adds depth of understanding when other characters pop up.
Mac is a gamer and talented programmer. She’s a dork by choice and prefers being invisible. Her confidence, strength and determination make her so appealing and fun to read.
Kai seems to be typical high school jock who loves the limelight and being the star basketball player. His vulnerability and uncertainty make him endearing and real. Also his corny puns were too cute!
There’s a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to these two. They don’t realize it until they have to work together and get a chance to see beyond their circumstances of jock and the nerd by choice. I love how they become friends before dating and how they are there for each other.
Mac and Kai are officially at the top of my favourite Evermore High couples list along with Trey and Hailey. They have great chemistry and are likeable characters.
This series is how I first started reading Emily’s books and I’ve enjoyed them all. They’re always the go-to when I need a sweet clean read. Can’t wait to read more of her books!
I am so enamored with this author and her take on these high school couples that bring drama and romance from characters that you really wish you were back in high school. It is sweet and smart with characters you get to know. I love these sweet reads and the delivery is really good! With Kai and Mac you get the feel that opposites do attract and the fact that they are so well matched makes it even better. This takes me back to my school days and really made me smile. This is probably the best book I have read in this series but it is surrounded with the others in that it is well written. Emily can write sweet YA books and I will continue to say that she is a master of this genre!

I really enjoyed this one! I believe this is the last novel in the Evermore High series and it was a perfect conclusion! I’ve read all of them and I was very excited to read Mackayla’s story (also, you can’t go wrong with an enemies to lovers trope😋)
Our hero,Kai, was just so sweet and Shaun, our heroine’s younger brother, was just adorable. They were definitely my favourite parts of the book. I also loved how Kai came up with so many nicknames for Mackayla. Mac Attack was probably my favorite of the bunch😂
Overall, I really enjoyed the series and this one would probably be my favorite! I would highly recommend reading this series for anyone who loves cute YA romance romance reads. I will now be patiently waiting for the author’s next release🤗
Recieved an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
After surprising being nominated as a prom queen entry. Mac uses her campaign to fight against the school app which has destroyed many relationships and spread many lies. After being dropped from the baseball team Kai due to his grades Kai needs help with one of his classes. Both step up to help each other and soon the walls each have built around themselves start to crumble.
Although I enjoyed the dynamics between both main characters and how their relationship developed from enemies to lovers throughout the book. Being the last book in this series although the final chapter gave you some insight into the relationship of the other couples and what happen to them after leaving evermore. I would of liked to know what happens to them a few years later.
I always look forward to reading books written by Emily and look forward to reading more books from her in the future.
Kai Taylor is a delightful blend of The Duff and She's All That. (The movie Duff, I haven't read the book) . We have a popular and not popular girl. A tutor situation. A confusing prom queen nomination. Neighbors. . And I'm here for every word, friends. Every single word. Other things that are just wonderful: ALL the nicknames, Click - now it's the worst but also, it is the basis of these books so I'll never truly hate it; Kai is punny which I love. . It's just swoony and lovely and I am totally in love with all the characters. I want to be friends with all of them! This is another Christmas card series. What's not great- it's the end of the series! 😢 Bittersweet.
Ah, Kai. This guy gives Chase Jones a run for his money in my book, but comes in at second. Kai is a star basketball player who needs help in his video game production class. Mackayla is all about the video games and gets asked to help Kai out by their teacher.
You can imagine what happens next, as these two next door neighbors fall for one another. Yes, there's the part where misunderstandings happen and they aren't together, but just like all the other books in this series, that drama doesn't last long.
Highly recommend the entire series! Find out which one of these sweet guys is your favorite :-)
For me? Chase, Kai, Dylan, Trey and Noah is my order.
I've been looking for a young adult series for my preteen daughter and this one is fabulous. The message it delivers and the story line was engaging. It was a sweet clean romance perfect for a middle school reader. I found it to be well written and engaging. This was the first book in the series that I read and I was able to read it as a stand alone. Definitely going to check out the rest of the series.

Holy DRAMA. I have never watched Gossip Girl before but I’m pretty sure that it would be similar to this haha. I would probably like this a lot if I was sixteen! I guess I’m just out of the high school drama stage. But it was still a fun read. I actually really liked how the book ended. It really focused on anti bullying and not getting revenge. The main characters didn’t solve the problem with more pettiness. They were very mature teenagers haha. The miscommunication didn’t last long either which is good. I loved the cute little brother and the nicknames too.
Weird, I swear I already reviewed this, I read this book a few months ago, not sure why this didn't save. Cute little book - palate cleanser after reading some very depressing books. A love story that kinda centered around misunderstandings, wish it wasn't so instanta love but enjoyed seeing the characters from previous books and liked the year long epilogue. Good for teens, totally clean and sweet romance, but also good for us grown-ups who like some romance but not the usual fare that comes from adult romance novels.
I really fell in love with Mac and Kais story! It has hate, love, missunderstandings, a fight for what is right, it is funny, sad and I love how the story is written! I could not put this down untill I finished it, I just had to know how things worked out! It is, to me, a well written story that drew me in and captured me.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Kai and Mackayla. They are juniors are Evermore High School and live nextdoor. But they were anything but friends. He's the star basketball player and she's a coding nerd. When forced to work together a fragile friendship develops.. But Click is determined to destroy it. The truth prevails and true feelings revealed.

I get what the author was trying to do with “kill with kindness” but seriously? The person behind click openly admits to being a bully to MULTIPLE PEOPLE and then says oopsie, I’m sowwy and there are no repercussions? Also why wouldn’t Kai just be like “hey I’m being blackmailed, here are the messages, I think in public we should keep our distance.” I was really enjoying this book up until the end which is why I gave it two stars instead of one.

This one had a bit more depth than the others. I think I liked Kai more than the others maybe not more than Trey. I didn’t find myself bored. The ending suprised me. They weren’t actually that much enemies although it was supposed to be enemies to lovers. They fall very quick.
Content: clean, only cursing, some parental yelling, bullying also mentioned. All the books mention make out sessions. I can’t imagine extensive kissing in front of others but I know that’s a high school thing.
This one was my favorite out of this series. The characters are so much more in depth with the main character having a brother with special needs- I thought her protectiveness of him was so realistic. The ending is very feel goody- a little too much for my preference but it wrapped up the series well.

This was a cute YA story. It had the sort of drama that I would expect from a story set in high school. The characters were believable and I liked them. I would definitely read another book by this author.
The girls a whole Lotta hate rolled up into a pretty little package. That girl is pier you go I don’t care if she did or did not do the right thing at the end sometimes you can’t forgive someone for being that evil and hateful.
