Londres, 1940.

Lily, Peter, Iris ...

This was such a sweet read – but from the first page there is an edge to the sweet.

Set in WWII England, Emma is unmarried and has a newborn baby that she is hiding from the father. Gradually we learn that the father means harm – to both Emma and baby Patrick.

Emma escapes from London to a safe place and meets a Dutch man and they fall in love. But there is danger in safety and there is an edge of the seat chapter where you think that maybe there isn’t going to be a happy every after!!!

Esse livro me conquistou!!!

Recomendo a leitura!

Missed the Mark

I have thoroughly enjoyed other books written by this author, especially her whimsical Christmas books. So I thought I'd give this book a try when I saw it at one of my favorite book review sites. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with it. The first thing I didn't like was the amazing amount of errors in grammar, punctuation, and usage. While I did receive it as an eBook ARC copy (not realizing that I had purchased it over a year ago!), the online published version that is two years old still has these errors. There were enough to be distracting. The first scene is dramatic and pulls you right in, but I kept getting distracted by all the errors. As the book progressed, I thought it had other faults as well. Though it takes place during World War II, I don't think that aspect of it was used in the story as much as it could be. I wasn't wild about the heroine, as she just seemed far too emotional, going to extremes with little provocation. It got a bit wearing. The romance felt lackluster. The children, while darling, are a bit too precocious. Kids just don't sound like that, then or now! All in all, I found myself disappointed in this book.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Deep and meaningful

Emma has to get away from London. Away from the relentless nighttime bombing raids, but more importantly, away from Malcolm, the father of the baby she needs to protect.

Andrej is an internationally renowned concert pianist who has always led a nomadic life. The war has put a stop to that and now he wants to do something meaningful.

Immediately I felt as if I was there. I was one hundred per cent drawn in, totally immersed in this sweet yet suspenseful book. The bedroom doors stayed closed on the adult scene.

I loved it! It was deep and meaningful. But there were also fun moments; I loved Peter, the young boy full of mischief. His heart’s in the right place though. There was one time where Emma was too hasty with a weird and illogical conclusion and that irritated me a bit, but the rest of the story was so wonderful!!!

I know a lot about WW II on the Continent, being Dutch. I loved reading about it from a British perspective. This book has made a powerful impression on me. I would love to read more romances set in the WW II era.

Hmmmm

I can't say this was a great novel; nor can I say it was a bad novel. As I starts out, I thought it was a continuation of another book. I even checked to see if I had somehow not realized this might be a sequel, but it's not. The way it's worded makes you think you missed something. There are gaps in the story and events that aren't explained properly. I kept thinking...Wait. How did so and so learn about this predicament? How did so and so suddenly know the entire background of the villain? The children in the story were quite precocious, ridiculously so at some points. Emma was a complex creature that needed mood stabilizers. She would be happy, sad, angry, loving and suddenly carrying on with another man, and the first man she was carrying on with was quite composed one minute when he should've been quite upset and then seething at other moments. The story was okay, although a bit contrived and maybe not thought out properly. Go ahead and read it. See what you think for yourself.

Wonderful World War II Romance

"A Love so True" was a beautiful love story set during World War
2. It is set in England during the German Nazi occupation which is the backdrop throughout the book. The main character, Emma, along with the baby, Patrick, meet Andrej, a worldwide concert pianist, when fleeing London at the train station. They go thru so much heartache and turmoil throughout this story. Malcolm is the evil character who killed Emma's cousin, Patricia, and the reason Emma is losing as the baby's Mother. She has to flee to Brighton to avoid Malcolm. She begins a new life at a cottage in Laurel Manor along with Andrej and other truly wonderful, loving characters.
If you want to escape to a time in England during World War II and a sweet romance, I suggest you out this on your "to read" list. Definitely hard to put this book down once you begin!!

Unusual, suspenseful, romantic

An interesting setting and premise, likeable characters, and believable complications coupled with good writing make this a book worth reading.

I have just one complaint. I like historical novels that teach me about a time or place. The weakness in this book is the author's grasp of technology in war-torn England. Growing up in New York City ten years after this book, private cars were uncommon and many people still had shared ("party") lines for their phones. I doubt private cars were as common (and gas as available) as this book makes out. I also doubt that a woman living in a crowded hut with a passel of children could afford a telephone. English novels written after the war often had people running to a neighbor to use a phone.

Outside of these and a few more anomalies, this was a really enjoyable read.

A LOVE SO TRUE is the first book in the Greatest Generation Love Story series. Each of these historical romances set during World War II can be read as a stand-alone.

This is a beautiful romance that grows from forced proximity, to friendship, to love. I loved the feeling of living in history and living in the gorgeous English countryside.

I was drawn in from the first page and could not put this down. I only wish there were more stories in this series.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via BookSprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

A Stiff but Fairly Interesting Read

Much of it was fairly well written, but too easily the reader could know what came next. Many times it was flat repetitive, as if the author was trying to stretch it out to a certain number of pages.
We do not even know what happened to Malcolm, and surely he should be known to be dead. Also, will the new husband make it home from the war. Perhaps this is a set up for another book? Nonetheless, most of us like a bit of closure and we did not get it.
Also, I taught elementary school for years. Kids do not speak in this manner, all prim and proper, long words and adult understanding. they just don't.
I am sorry to be so critical, and so wanted this to be great.

What a sweet love story set in WWII In London a young woman flees with an infant child and two other children. Leaving a town that is more often dangerous from being bombed to another that is perhaps a touch safer. She goes with a job lined up that provides a place for her and the children to stay. She meets a man along the way. Each have their own secrets and much mystery surrounds them. The story drew me in quickly and made me want to keep turning the pages. Lots of laughter at the antics of the children and other emotions as life during the war unfolded.

Really lovely story.

Ms. Michelson has written a sweet, gentle story about a really turbulent time in world history. It reminds me of my childhood memories. Kindness and compassion for others is what Will and Joanna and Iris show to Emma and the children. The heartbreak of families not being together and the worry for men away at war. And in all this we still find love. A truly lovely story. Read it. you will finish the book with a smile and hope that our fictional friends are well and together after the war ends.

WWII

Emma is fleeing London to protect baby Patrick from his father. An route, she meets Andrej, a Dutch pianist who helps her reach the train station. As their paths continue to cross, they soon find themselves working together to translate documents for the British. However, Emma's secrets and deception lead to mistrust and confusion.
This was an interesting story that just happened to be set during WWII. It could have had another setting and the plot would have remained basically the same. I wished there had been more history incorporated into the tale.

A.\nSlow read predictable

This book had some troubling areas. I mean, it was really not very well-thought-out in the plot. The romantic is lovely, but romance doesn't have all the back-and-forth. Let the ride also, put it to it. I mean, in some areas, the female was an idit's really good. I know that they needed to do it to make a plot. Binut bully bait, it was an idiot. I did that. I happened to enjoy the period I don't know why but I love the World War 2 era. So
On that, it was a good. All right.I do recommend it if you're at all.Interested in world war two

My favourite book of all time. Amazing but intense story plot that allowed me to scream and cry and yell throughout the book. The characters were extremely well developed and the writer was able to allow you to feel all the emotions of characters felt. This allowed me to develop a deep connection with each and every character and really get to feel how they were feeling. All I can say is you really should read this book

All's well that ends well.

Sorting out truth from fiction, and jumping to disastrous conclusions was the primary occupation of the main characters in this story. In truth the children and their antics were the best part this tale. Although set in WW1, I would label this a light read.

Sweet story

A sweet love story in England during the blitz. It also is the story of coping with life’s happenings that are unplanned. It also is a story of learning your true feelings. Often what we believe is true is not true at all. Buried fears and feelings can be misleading. Look and listen for the right answers

What an enjoyable book. It takes place during WWII. But the war is just the background. The Story is between the characters. I found myself reading while I was watching TV because I was enjoying the book much more than the TV!! Take a chance, I bet you will love it.

Very good book! It moved fast and had some mystery to it. It was a mostly clean book—no bad language or graphic sex. It is hard to find this kind of book today.

From danger to discovery to love.

This wonderful story takes us back to World War II and highlights the good that people do during tragic times. It brings together a childless family, a hastily formed family, and a famous man who discovered that he had not been abandoned in childhood by his family. A delight!

WWII History, suspense, heart-warming love story

This story kept me engaged from start to finish. There was enough suspense to keep me awake into the wee hours with just enough of a love story to keep the romantics happy. Plus it didn't have a predictable ending. Very good reading!
