Safe Harbor, the third book in the Bayshore Beach series by Tia Souders, seriously had me on the edge of my seat. Cassie and Carl’s Meyers relationship from the start was tumultuous. The abuse she suffered at his hands only escalated as the years went by. The love of her friends, Andi and Rachael and the support of Brock Bowman, a high school friend and police officer, sustained Cassie through the worst of it, but in the end it was Cassie that made the final call on how it would all go down.
This book was a little different from the first two books in the Bayshore series in the sense that it contained more serious subject matter. More than a romance, it delved into the cycle of abuse. The writing was so good and descriptive, at times I was on the edge of my seat, literally telling Cassie what to do, as I was filled with contempt for Carl. But Cassie had many things at stake that confounded her situation. As simple as it may have seemed, walking away was not the easiest choice.
I also enjoyed Safe Harbor because it brought back her delightful and loyal friends, Andi and Rachael. They were always there, lending support when needed, always available to help. I also liked the introduction of Brock Bowman. He was also a friend to Cassie, although those feelings ran much deeper. An all around good guy to have around, especially at the darkest moments of Cassie’s life. All in all, I loved the cast of characters in Safe Harbor, I loved how the story progressed and as always, I loved the ending.
I want to thank Cherry Valley Press for an ARC of Safe Harbor by Tia Souders. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This story was heart wrenching to me. Emily is physically and emotionally abused by her husband, nearly to death on more than one occasion. She is lucky to survive. Thankfully, she has friends who care about her. She tries again and again to leave him, but financial difficulties and the threat of him killing her if she ever leaves him, stop her from pursuing her goals of escape. Then, more complications arise, escalating the danger. This story took me on an emotional rollercoaster but it has a happy ending. Sensitive readers may be triggered by the abusive situations in this book but the story is clean and fast paced. I really enjoyed it and I recommend it. It was very realistic and well written.
A heart wrenching story. Cassie is been abused by her husband for nine years. She is ready to leave her live behind in Bayshore Beach, even if it means start anew without her best friends Andi and Rachel, her I’ll mother and her best friend police officer Brock. But abusing marriage are difficult to break and Cassie will have to fight to break free.
This is the final installment in the series. It was very good, but hard to read because of the violence, triggering difficult memories and emotional fallout. I could relate to Cassie’s struggles and hopelessness. no simple decision would make it all better. There are layers to every relationship. Ms. Souders expressed a hard topic with understanding.
This book book will pull on all your heart strings. Cassie goes through a lot with her husband Carl. The way he treats her is horrible. Love the way Brock has lived Cassie from afar and how he comes to her rescue. Love their ending.
