Second Chance Christmas

Rate this book
New York Times bestselling author Lori Wilde returns to Twilight, Texas, with a love story filled with the magic of the season, about a couple who discover an abandoned baby on Christmas Eve-Eve.

It’s Christmastime in Twilight, TX. The lights are twinkling, carols are being sung, and the cookies are baking. And this year, best friends Joel and Jana discover a shocking surprise: as they are organizing the living Nativity, they find a sweet little baby in the manger with a note saying the mother will return...soon.

Jana tucks the infant into her arms, and she and Joel make the impulsive decision to take the baby home. Jana is spontaneous, Joel is a planner, but they agree that it’s better to care for this precious bundle for the holidays, in hopes that the mother really will come back by New Year’s.

As the days pass, the pair begins to fall in love with the child and they’re also forced to face facts: their relationship goes far deeper than friendship. As the spirit of Christmas—and the magic of Twilight, TX—takes over, this unlikely couple must open up to the feelings they’ve been hiding from each other all along.

Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.

She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.

Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.

She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.

I am questioning myself why this is the first book I've read by this author and why I've just been introduced to the Twilight, Texas series.
This book is an emotional overload and I LOVED it!
I have a lot of catching up to do as this is the twelfth book in the series and I want to read them all.
If you haven't read an author before I believe reading a Christmas book by them is a great way to try them out as I believe author's make their Christmas books a little more special.
We start out at Christmastime in Twilight,Texas. It's a beautiful time, cold, twinkling lights, everyone in a festive mood. Care takers of the living manger, friends Joel and Jana make a shocking discovery in the manger. A days old baby with a note from his mother saying she'll return when she's able to.
As we get to know Joel and Jana we discover some baggage Jana has that's she's kept hidden all her life.

Twilight, Texas, is a book world I fell in love with years ago. This gifted storyteller has a way of creating a fictional small town that's quirky and interesting yet warm and inviting. It had been a while since I spent any time there, so I was excited to dive into this one. Add in the Christmas setting and fresh premise and I was halfway in love before I opened the cover.

Joel and Jana may be employer and employee, but they've both volunteered to watch the town's live nativity and take the animals back to the barn at the end of the night. There may also be some interest on one or both of their parts, but Jana is a mess of tough complications.

Before they can get the animals back to their homes they find a real, live human baby in the manger. With nothing more than a note asking they look after him, Joel and Jana work together to care for little Gabriel. Jana grew up in the system, so she'll do anything to keep this innocent baby out of foster care. She'll gladly spare anyone the experiences she had, especially an innocent baby.

Of course, this is Twilight, Texas, so something like this doesn’t happen in the small community without most everyone in town getting involved. And as they work together on behalf of Gabriel, Jana and Joel grow closer to each other, but it's not an easy road. Jana’s upbringing influences most everything in her life, and Joel has some serious challenges in getting Jana to lower her walls.

This talented lady knows just how to weave a story that draws the reader in, making her part of everything that happens from beginning to end. Settle in and gird your heart, but prepare to have these authentic, vulnerable characters make themselves at home in it. Sweet, compelling and full of feels, this wonderful heartwarming story will fill you with joy and remind you of the very best parts of the Christmas season.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

📚Second Chance Christmas by Lori Wilde is the twelfth book in the Twilight Texas series. However, it works well on its own. Having experienced the  author's work in the past with Christmas at Twilight, I eagerly jumped at the chance to read the latest installment in the Twilight, Texas series.

This installment gives us Joel McGregor and Jenna Gerard’s story. Jenna moved to Twilight seven years ago. She was nineteen years old when she made the move. Since then, she made a life for herself in this quaint little town. Despite the residents embracing her, she didn’t allow anyone to get too close. The few friends she gained during this time never saw the real Jenna, the woman behind the tattoos. Joel grew up in Twilight and had his share of hurts in the past. He longed for that someone special and knew he had found it in Jenna. If only he could break down the barriers she built around her heart. Chock full of emotions and brimming with the Christmas spirit 📚Second Chance Christmas kept me reading into wee hours of the night.

The story began with Joel and Jenna overseeing the towns live nativity scene and preparing to take the animals back to the farm when the night was over. While preparing to round up the animals, Jana discovered a baby named Gabriel abandoned in the manger. Fearing that the baby would become a statistic in the foster care system, she convinced Joel to help her take care of the baby. Their only reassurance that the mother would return was the note written on the baby’s diaper. In working together to take care of the baby, Jana and Joel grew closer. Soon, their feelings for each other intensified.

I enjoyed this adorable, friends to lovers Christmas romance. Jana and Joel’s journey to happily ever after faced many obstacles, with fear has the biggest one of all. I loved how patient Joel was with her. She built walls so thick and high it would seem not even a bulldozer could tear them down. However, Joel’s with his patience and positive approach to life proved stronger than any bulldozer. Bit by bit he broke down her defenses and soon she trusted him enough to reveal her vulnerabilities.

Jana was a caring and thoughtful person, but her lack of faith in her ability to love kept her from forming lasting relationships. However, her interactions with Gabriel revealed her capacity to love. She acts tough to cover up her insecurities, but beneath that layer of toughness lay a broken soul.

The romance developed nicely, and the aspects of the story in relation to baby Gabriel gripped my heart. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters, but Jana and Joel earned a special place in my heart.

I had a wonderful time coming back to the series.  📚Second Chance Christmas was a delightful story of second chances. A second chance to make up for mistakes from the past. It left me smiling  and eager to go back and read the other books in the series. Perfect for fans of warmhearted Christmas stories with a small town vibe.

Jana and Joel are friends and part-time boss/employee (when she's not working at her handywoman business). They're at church, herding animals for the live nativity when they suddenly find a real baby in the manger, with a note saying to please take care of her child and she'll come back when she can. It comes naturally for the two friends that they'll do it together. But it'd be easier if Jana come stay with him while they're babysitting.

Lot of things changed since Jana arrived in Twilight, Texas, at 19. She made friends but she's still secretive and still an enigma for Joel. He's more laid-back and straight-lace (but never uptight) while her strong convictions will make her fight for what she believe in. The time has come for them to realize they complete each other perfectly.

A friends-to-lovers romance, but I'd also called this story a second chance in life for our heroine who grew up in the foster system and had to make tough choices to survive. But don't go believing this is not a sweet story totally delivering on the magic of the Holidays and Love.

Not a fan of this book at all. The plot was great, yet poorly written. If you love cheesy smut than it may just be for you. I, on the other hand do not and was taken back at how poorly written the smut was for an adult reader.

Second Chance Christmas by Lori Wilde is a cute, somewhat steamy, holiday romance and is her twelfth book in the Twilight, Texas series, although this book can easily be read as a stand-alone book.

Joel and Jana are both working on the live Nativity in their hometown of Twighlight Texas when they find a live baby in the manger with a note pinned to his diaper explaining that his mother will be back to collect him by New Years Day. Jana and Joel immediately take the baby home, and the Sherrif decides to let them keep the baby until the New Year before he reports the abandoned baby to authorities.

Jana has had a rough upbringing and lived in foster homes most of her life, so she can’t allow the baby, she named Gabriel, to go into the foster home system. She hopes the mother returns to get Gabriel, but she’s growing attached to the baby. Joel has grown up in Twilight and decides to help Jana with the baby by having both Jana and Gabriel move into his home, as he has an extra bedroom.

I enjoyed this cute, holiday story, and was rooting for Jana, and Joel to find their happily ever after. And I was rooting for Gabriel and his mother to be reunited. The book took off quickly, immersing me in the story right away, but I did get bogged down a bit in the middle, and then I thought the end wrapped up a bit too quickly. But, overall it’s a very satisfying romantic story that I enjoyed. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Jana and Josh are the best of friends, but that soon changes when they found a real live baby in the manger of the Twilight Nativity where just the animals where supposed to be real. And of course they knew that they had to take this child and find out who baby Gabriel really belonged to. And when the town of Twilight, TX finds out, the help comes pouring out at this holiday time. What Josh and Jana really needs is help guiding them through this change in their relationship, when friendship becomes more and secrets of the past that Jana wanted kept that way and her can she give her trust to Josh...
The magic of the season will touch all of the town with the finding of a child.

I loved all the books in the Twilight, TX series, but I think this has been one of my top favs. I loved the vulnerability of Jana and she has worked to overcome her secrets and let herself learn to trust, especially Josh.
It is a wonderful holiday read that will leave you with hope in your heart and the spirt of what Christmas really is, and of course the HEA ever after we love.

I know fear is your driver and I want to be your co-pilot. I want to be your soft place to land.

Oh, my heart! This was so much more than a romance. There was a lot of healing, found family, new family, support, saving. It gave me all the feels. It gave me Hallmark vibes. Jana and Joel had a special kind of love and deserved their HEA.

This book was a real disappointment. The first half was utterly delightful as a couple of friends find a baby hidden in the church nativity cradle. But by the beginning of the second half of the story, it was very smut filled after one or two chapters I couldn't read any more. I would not recommend this to anyone who likes clean filled Christmas reads.

I was looking forward to Jana and Joel's book since since they had both appeared in previous Twilight novels.

I almost feel bad for Lori Wilde characters because one of them, if not both, is bound to have a super tough, complicated past that was filled with a lot of pain. Jana was the victim this time, and boy was her background a doosy!

I don't want to get into all the details here because discovering them is part of the plot. I will provide a TRIGGER WARNING for mentions of domestic and sexual abuse. There are no lengthy detailed accounts of what happened, but these are things discussed as part of Jana's past.

Joel is the perfect hero. He's everything straight women want. I honestly can't think of a flaw unless it's that he loves Jana too much. Which really isn't a flaw at all! Though I will say that I was disappointed when he discussed her personal backstory with his twin without her permission, and because of that, it was overheard by a busy body who gossiped about it. I was kinda frustrated when Jana didn't go confront the busy body. But I was glad that Jana confronted and forgave Joel rather quickly.

I really liked the baby in the manger plot and how their friends and family rallied around to help them. I loved how committed Joel was to Jana and made a point to ALWAYS be there for her. Even when she pushed him away.

There's only one sex scene. It's a bit long, but it's because there's a lot of talking and thinking going on. The sex itself doesn't take a ton of time. But the whole scene is drawn out because of other things going on in their heads.

Flynn, Joel's sister, was annoying in both this book and Noah's book (Joel's twin). She did the momma bear thing when her brothers were like 30 years old. I thought it was ridiculous and presumptuous of her to do that. And then I felt like she was really condescending with Jana later. Maybe that just didn't translate well with me when it was supposed to be a nice heartwarming scene.

Personal preference: the thing that bothered me the most was that Joel was 6'5" and Jana was 5'4". WHY THE MASSIVE HEIGHT DIFFERENCE? I thought in Noah's book it was mentioned that Noah was taller than Joel, so I was surprised when it was said that Joel was 6'5" to Noah's 6'3". I'm so sick of large men being paired with tiny ass women. Us tall women would like to be paired with a tall man every now and then too!

This is the second book in the Twilight Texas series, and despite not reading the first book I didn't feel once that I had missed out on anything, I think you can easily read them as stand-alone's.

Second Chance Christmas is a cute, steamy and feel-good festive read, I really liked the romance between Jana and Joel, their relationship develops very naturally throughout the story and you can't help but back them as they progress to their happily ever after.

I did think that for a relatively short story it was a little long-winded at times, there were times it did drag on a little bit more than I would have liked and there were parts that I felt were a little too heavy for a Christmas story.

This is the first book I've read by Lori Wilde, I thoroughly enjoyed her writing which tugs and the heartstrings and will certainly be reading more by her in the future.

I liked the premise of this as soon as reading the back blurb, I thought it was a fresh take on the nativity story, I liked that the character had a deep friendship that swiftly moved into a full-on relationship. I liked how each of their backstories is revealed, but I would have liked a little more festivities seeing as this was a Christmas book - but that's just me I have been in the mood for Christmas books lately.

I must also mention the cover, it's what caught my attention of this book, it's so festive and charming. I'm not sure it fits in with the overall story, but it is exceptionally pretty to look at.

Overall, Second Chance Christmas is a lovely and emotional romance, to fully grasp this book you do need to persevere past the slow and heavy parts and keep reading, you won't be disappointed.

It’s always a pleasure to return to The Twilight Series i am in hard love with the people and the town.

Jana Gerard is a heroine that just grips your heart, and has you cheering for her in the end. Jana’s past is anything but easy, growing up in the system causes Jana unease when it comes to trusting people, now Jana is living in a little town called Twilight, where the town folk is anything but standoffish .

Joel MacGregor this hero drew me in with his sexy looks and huge heart. Joel is not one who is lucky in love department to say the least, but in friendship he is blessed. What happens when the friendship grows into something more?

Jana and Joel are a brilliant powerhouse for sure. There is nothing they can’t do, well almost. When it comes to the chemistry between them things are about to get interesting. Can they work out the kinks? Secrets revealed, hearts open, and a tiny Christmas miracle all play a huge role in Second Chance Christmas.

Lori Wilde’s Twilight, Texas Series gets more enchanting with every addition. Second Chance Christmas is a story of friendship to lovers trope romance that is not an easy road. Second Chance Christmas has strong character building both of main and supporting characters, it’s always nice to see how the characters from the previous Twilight, Texas Series are growing. I for one cannot wait to read the next installment in this series.

This is the 12th book from the Twilight, Texas series.

If you have read the previous 11 books you will know what you are getting with this one. A decent story of a young couple in Twilight, Texas, with 2 chapters of soft-core porn thrown in. This story features Jana Gerard, a feisty inked-up lady who comes to Twilight down on her luck. You will find out so much more about Jana as the story goes. Her paramour in this story is Joel McGregor, twin brother of Noah McGregor, who you met in previous books in the series. Joel's back story is weak in this one. The story leans in on Jana.

Joel and Jana are helping Twilight get ready for the Christmas season by maintaining the nativity scene with an approaching storm coming when they discover a real baby in the nativity scene. The baby, Gabriel, has a note written on his diaper by his mother to take care of Gabriel until she returns. Jana and Joel, who start as friends, agree to take care of Gabriel together. You can see where this is going.

Jana really drives this story. Joel is a mere place holder.

3.5 stars, rounding up to four.

This is book 12 of The Twilight, Texas series, but it can definitely be read as a standalone. It is a story about overcoming the troubles and horrors of your past, facing your fears, opening yourself up to others, second chances, love, and Christmas miracles.

This book makes you feel a wide variety of emotions. It made me laugh and cry. Parts were rather heavy, other parts kind of sappy, and still others had that feel good Christmas vibe. It was a Christmas rom-com, but with some very heavy themes looming in the background that happened in the past that the main character had to face to move forward.

Overall, it was a good story and one that kept my interest throughout. It was a fast read. It unfortunately had a bit too much sexual content for my liking.

This was a cute Christmas book that takes place over the span of about two weeks in the town of Twilight, TX. Joel and Jana, who are best friends, discover a baby in a manger abandoned by his teenage mother who says she’ll be back at New Years to get him. They choose to take care of him for her and during this time their underlying feelings for each other that have been growing for 2 years start to emerge. Joel is all in but Jana has some past trauma and secrets she hasn’t confided to him yet which may change things. That’s all I’m going to say otherwise it would spoil the emotional depth Lori Wilde wrote into the story.

This was a sweet fast romance that does focus some on the heavier notes of teenage pregnancy, abusive pasts and second chances. I wish there had been more focus on the heavy subjects. We get some closure, especially in the epilogue, but really needed more and I think this comes from the fast wrap up. Lori Wilde did a wonderful job with the book up until the last 50 pages or so (I was on a kindle so I’m guessing). Then it was quick paced wrapping up all her threads which hindered the dark subjects weight in my opinion.

Overall though I loved how Joel and Jana are deeply developed characters and how she seamlessly interwove who I assume are character from previous books. I’d give it a 3.5 but will round up bc it was a fun read. If you like light romance, Christmas miracle stories, second chances or friends to lovers then definitely pick yourself up a copy!

I received Second Chance Christmas as part of a NetGalley giveaway.

It's Christmas week in Twilight, Texas, and and friends and colleagues Joel and Jana discover a newborn baby in the manger of the town's nativity scene, with a note from his mother promising to return soon. They decide to take him in, at least until the mother's supposed return date, and in so doing acknowledge desires--both romantic and --that have long been simmering under the surface. But Jana has a dark past and a host of secrets that put her relationship and future with Joel at risk. Can she open up to the man she's falling in love with and help forge a life together?

Second Chance Christmas was too saccharine sweet for me. It ostensibly deals with heavy subjects, but in my opinion glosses over them and doesn't afford them respect, which makes it feel a bit careless. Additionally, it romanticizes the busybody small town and casts anyone who might like privacy as being "weird." As an aforementioned privacy-lover, it really rubbed me the wrong way. I would have appreciated a bit more weight to the story if the trauma subjects were going to be broached, or simply remove them completely to make a lighter plot.

Second Chance Christmas is the 12th book in Lori Wilde's Twilight, Texas series. I have quite a number of books in this series already; however, this is the first one I've read. I know you're just shocked! This was a great introduction to the series for me. This romance stands totally alone, though characters from previous novels appear. Not only was this a great friends-to-lovers story, but the premise was perfect for Christmas!

Christmas is coming to Twilight, Texas, which seems to be in the running for the friendliest town in Texas.. Celebrations are quite the thing here, and Christmas is their biggest and brightest. Jana Gerard and Joel MacGregor have been friends for years, and Jana even works part-time for Joel. While closing up the living Nativity for the night, they make quite the discover: a real baby in the manger! There's a note written on the diaper by the child's mother, stating she will return for little Gabriel by New Year's. Totally taken with the little guy, they get permission to take care of the child together in the hopes that mother actually returns. They soon fall in love with the baby, which also makes Jana and Joel deal with their real feelings for each other...

This is one of the sweetest Christmas romances I've ever read. Not only are Jana and Joel great characters, but Twilight, Texas seems to be a character in its own right. Jana had a horrible life after being abandoned by her mother when she was 3, but she has made a great life for herself in this town. After the horror of her early life, one can understand her trust issues and the need for independence. She couldn't stand the thought of Gabriel being put in Child Protective Services while they waited for the child's mother to return, as she was in CPS as a kid. Jana has had her life's story written all over her body with tattoos. Joel was a totally different person from Jana. He grew up in a loving home, though he lost his beloved mother as a child, plus his father was lost to alcohol for years after her death but eventually sobered up. The family was basically raised by oldest sister Flynn, and all the siblings are incredibly close. Joel was extremely tall and handsome, a great doggy daddy and to be honest, rather goofy in an endearing way. Total opposites, but we all know opposites attract, at least in romance novels! Plus living in the almost magical town on Twilight helped bring them together. When they connected physically it was extremely steamy, but also humorous. The supporting characters were all fun, though their meddling could be a bit overwhelming. This is just the story to get you in the spirit of Christmas!

I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I usually love Lori Wilde's Twilight books, and although I enjoyed this one, I can't say I loved it. Jana. the heroine, was abandoned as a toddler, has grown up in and out of foster homes and on the streets. As aa result, she has learned not to trust people, or give her heart to anyone. In the 7 years she has been in Twilight, she has opened up some, at least on the surface, if not in her heart. Joel MacGregor has lived in Twilight his entire life, and although there has been tragedy in his life, he has chosen not to let it invade his outlook. He tends to look on the bright side and believe everything will be all right. These two are mistaken for a couple by a young unwed mother who feels the best thing she can do is leave her baby in the church manger at Christmas, along with a note saying she will be back by New Years Day, please care for him. Since Jana knows what growing up in the foster care system is like, she persuades the local sherrif not to call CPS until they see if the mother will, in fact, return by New Year's Day. Caring for little Gabriel brings Joel and Jana closer. But here is where the book fell flat for me. As they grow closer, Jana questions everything that Joel or anyone else does. I know she is supposed to be the damaged heroine, but IMHO, it took WAY too long for her to finally break through her walls and deal with her feelings. I felt like I was reading the same scenario over and over, not moving forward with the story. As i said, I've read and loved all the Twilight books, and it was so much fun catching up with the couples from the other books. If you are a fan of these books, you are sure to love this too!

Second Chance Christmas is a warm, heartfelt holiday romance that leans fully into the magic of small-town charm and quiet emotional discovery. Set in Twilight, Texas during the most festive time of year, the story wraps you in twinkling lights, baking cookies, and the kind of community warmth that makes Christmas romances so comforting.

Jana and Joel’s dynamic is instantly likable. Best friends with deeply rooted trust, they balance each other beautifully—her spontaneity softening his careful planning. When they discover an abandoned baby in a Nativity manger, their impulsive decision to care for the infant together becomes the catalyst that shifts everything. The baby isn’t just a plot device; it acts as a mirror, forcing both characters to confront what they truly want from life—and from each other.

What works especially well is the emotional pacing. The romance unfolds naturally, driven by shared moments, late-night conversations, and the quiet realization that their bond has always been more than friendship. The holiday atmosphere enhances every scene, giving the story a cozy, nostalgic glow that feels perfectly seasonal.

While the plot follows familiar holiday romance beats, it does so with sincerity and warmth. A few moments resolve a bit neatly, keeping this from full five-star territory, but the emotional payoff is satisfying and sweet. The message about opening your heart—to love, family, and unexpected blessings—lands beautifully.

Overall, Second Chance Christmas is a charming, uplifting read that delivers exactly what you want from a holiday romance: comfort, hope, and the gentle magic of love finally finding its moment.

Jana and Joel are co-workers and friends. They find a baby abandoned in a manger in front of the church. A hastily scrawled note on the diaper says the mother will return for little Gabriel by New Years. Jana decides to give the mother a chance to return and promises to care for the baby and Joel agrees to help. This time together allows the couple to talk about their pasts and heat up the sparks that are between them.

This book is the 12th novel in the Twilight series by the author and there are also 7 additional novella's. I read it as a stand alone but clearly there is a lot of history with the various characters and couples in the story. If you're a reader of the series this is a must read. As a holiday romance for someone who has not read the series this is decent story but there are issues. The book is a little slow at peeling back Jana's history, explaining why she is such a private person. Also I didn't like that when Joel shares her secrets with his twin brother he brushes it off with, I share everything with my family, instead of validating her feelings of betrayal. Lastly, other than the baby in the manger the story seemingly could have taken place anytime.

This is sweet and steamy without being overly graphic. I enjoyed the book but the 3 star rating reflects the fact that I didn't immediately put the series on my TBR list. Thank you to NetGalley, Avon and Harper Voyager for an ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This is my ‘I need Christmas stories’ time of year. I don’t know why but it always starts around November 1st. Now, I realize I’m a little early this year but I have a nice supply of books so why not?

The only fault I have with this book is not enough Christmas but certainly enough romance, strife, confusion and finally a happy ending. After much questioning and fear of losing her best friend on Jana’s part and hesitation and fear of rejection on Joel’s part these two do finally man up and face the fact that there is more going on then just friendship.

Now, most of this book is will she or won’t she and will he or won’t he and can I handle this situation if they don’t. You would like to either give them each a good shove or maybe a good smack in the head but we wouldn’t have much of a story if everything went smoothly, now would we?

There’s a small town in Texas called Twilight that seems to be heavy on romance and this is where a homeless teenager, a baby, a slip and fall all have to occur before the truth finally comes out, the emotional truth that Jana and Joel have been avoiding and a major secret that Jana has been keeping.

This is a very cute story with a lot of fits and starts but it wouldn’t be a romance without all the problems and finally the happy ending.

I won this early Kindle copy in a First Reads giveaway. Thank you to Avon Books, William Morrow, HarperCollins Publishers and the author Lori Wilde.

Lori Wilde’s latest Twilight, Texas instalment does not disappoint. Titled Second Chance Christmas the fans of Twilight get the heartwarming HEA for Joel and Jana, two characters existing fans will be very familiar with and if not, will get to discover and love as well, I am sure. The twilight series though all standalone books tend to mention other characters and offer tie ins to other books in the stories.

Joe and Jana are this year’s Xmas’s care takers of the living manger. These two we find out though employer and employee are also good friends. Friends that end up entrusted with a days old baby boy with a note from his mother saying she'll return as soon as she's able to. They decide to take baby Gabriel in with the help of the town of course, because not only is it that, that’s just how twilight is, Jana does not want him to end up in the foster care system as she had been. Now the other books had alluded to Jana having some serious baggage and we finally get in depth knowledge of exactly what kind. As Joe and Jana almost move in together to be the couple Gabriel’s mother had thought them to be the sparks fly. Taking care of baby Gabriel jointly helps them discover not only about learning to trust and letting go, but that perhaps a real couple and a real family should indeed be the end goal for them this Christmas. This review was given on the ARC copy I received from the Publisher via Netgalley in return for my honest opinion. Happy reading!

3 1/2 stars

If you have a few minutes of downtime and want to read a story that pulls at all of your heartstrings, check out Lori Wilde’s Christmas novel, Second Chance Christmas. Set in Twilight, Texas, many of the Twilight characters are back to get involved–perhaps overly so–when Joel and Jana find a real live baby in the place of baby Jesus in the nativity scene. A note hastily scrawled on a diaper informs them that the mother will be back in a week. Impetuous Jana thinks they should keep the baby for the week and (almost) reluctantly Joel agrees.

In that week best friends Joel and Jana discover that they don’t know everything there is to know about each other and that some secrets are kept for protection and to avoid judgement. And, they also discover that they can’t avoid the feelings they have for each other.

As usual, Wilde has filled Second Chance Christmas with so many layers that the reader is never bored. While I had no problem guessing what Jana was hiding, and don’t think most readers will either, tension arose from how her situation would be resolved and what reactions would be to it.

While I would have loved some of Wilde’s typical humor to shine through and the feeling of the small town not to feel more than a bit off-putting, Second Chance Christmas still worked well as a emotional holiday read.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh man this was so cute and the story was straight out of a Hallmark Movie but it was fun to read. I really enjoyed the fact that even though this is very far into a series I was never lost while reading and while they did throw out a bunch of names at me which I am assuming were from previous books everything still made sense. Jana and Joel discover a baby abandoned on Christmas Eve in the manager of the nativity in from of the church with a note from the mother saying she will be back for him before new year’s when she has somewhere for them to stay and please take care of her baby. Impulsively they take him in and in doing so start to work to getting together since Jana was under the impression that Joel had a girlfriend which he doesn’t’ and they start to fall in love and work through Jana’s intimacy issues from her own childhood dealing with being abandoned by her mother, the foster care system and bad relationships with men while she was very young. This was a really easy read and such a good Christmas story.

Thanks to Avon and Harper Voyager and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in e-book form. All opinions in this review are my own.
