Let me start by saying, this was required reading with my executive team, not a book I would have chosen to read. If you have been in a leadership role through the pandemic, you too could write a book! It’a like being a parent, you can read all of the books on parenting but nothing truly prepares you like the experience itself. That’s what this book felt like to me - nice theory, and applicable if you are leading with a solid team that has a growth mindset for change.

This book gave great perspective into the challenges of the next year we have. It was a very simple book to follow that allowed the reader to picture their own organization and how the material fit for them. It didn’t push views but gave good arguments backed by research about what should be important to companies in the coming years! It was nicely written and I got a lot out of it!

Particularly enjoying chapter 10 on Metrics that Matter- specifically on Employer Brand. With the great resignation, how can one regroup for a positive employer brand? To convey that both inside (and do it just don't talk it) and outside org. Pg 215 chart on Strategies for Employer Branding helpful.

I so agree that the only positive of the pandemic is that is has shown us why we need to reset. So much needs to just stop, slow down, fix and let's please come out better. So much better. I gravitated to the title of this book.

pg 222 "This is the time to be extra. This is the time to recognize the extraordinary circumstances we're living in and seize the un-normal."
_Know what is coming down the road, 3 months from now or 3 years. K-mart and Kodak didn't look down the road. Apple does. Playing not to lose means defeat in the end. Innovate the everyday.

To a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Johnny Taylor is an HR hammer and while there is some good wisdom to be found in this book following all it's advice will lead any company into a spiral. The only question is how fast. That said, there are great lessons to be taken as long as you use discernment.

Definitely written from the perspective of HR but included lessons that I think anyone in a leadership position should be considering. I found this to be a super quick, easy read and finished it in about 10 hours including annotation.

If you’re in a position to change the culture at your work this is the book to read! Written in a post Covid world, he gives a fantastic view of businesses needing a reset. He breaks down who is doing it right and who is missing the mark.

An regurgitation of every business book I have ever read. And apparently women don’t exist in the workplace since not one was quoted. Oh and right he just wants everything to go back to the way it was before COVID.
