Align with the natural cycles of the earth as you explore the 13 essential plants every green witch must know and have in their garden and cupboard for healing, spellwork, and divination.
Plants are a sacred offering from Mother Earth. And witches have always known and understood their healing and magickal powers. Plants hold sustenance, medicine, and wisdom. They gift us with the essentials we need to live and thrive. In return, they ask to be used for the highest good. This is the path of the green witch. With Green Witch Magick, learn how to reconnect with this sacred knowledge.
Noted green witch and herbalist Susan Tuttle, creator of the beloved Instagram handle @Whisper in the Wood, shows you how to forage, grow, and work with the plants integral to your green witchcraft practice.
At the core of green witchery is the responsible stewarding of Mother Earth and her precious resources. Learn how to: Ethically forage and harvest needed plants Set up your own green witch garden Work with both wild and cultivated plants in concert with natural cycles Co-create with plant allies to make natural remedies, recipes and elixirs, and supplies for spellwork In addition to mastering the practical aspects of green witchery, you'll learn the energetic and magickal properties of plants and how to effectively use them in ritual and spellwork. For example, did you know that plants associated with the moon are connected to sleep, intuition, and lucid dreams while plants connected with the element of air are connected with psychic powers, intellect, and wisdom?
Reclaim your inherent relationship with the healing magick of nature with Green Witch Magick.
Are you witch-curious? This book on green witchcraft is pure gold! It’s a super well-rounded read, from the thoughtful, intelligent introduction to witchcraft, to the lovingly described plants and herbs, to the practical guides that include gardening, foraging, recipes, and magickal instruction. You’ll get a good foundation in the practice and then move right to getting your hands dirty! I love that the author focuses on 13 key plants, making this guide feel manageable and doable. The writing style is warm and engaging, and the photos are gorgeous (follow the author on Instagram if you don’t already). I particularly love the bits on divination. I highly recommend it!
While mostly focusing on the very basics of green witchcraft (and I mean BASICS), Tuttle also delves a little bit into the eclectic side of things. She gives us a variety of simple recipes to get us started with green witchcraft and presents the basics of foraging and herbalism.
Well-thought and with a practical approach, Green Witch Magick is the perfect book for beginners and intermediate practitioners interested in green/natural witchcraft. It covers all the basics without being superficial. I absolutely loved how Susan Ilka Tuttle incorporates topics like sustainability and self-reliance to the Craft.
Green Witch Magick by Susan Ilka Tuttle Essential Plants and Crafty Spellwork for a Witch’s Cupboards
Filled with information, this is a great book for someone interested in witchy things and especially those that are Green/Earth based. Much was covered in a basic way giving just enough information to whet the appetite and allow a novice to dabble or for someone with more skills to pick up a new idea or have their memory tweaked.
Every time I read a book like this with herbs involved…I think about the health impact some may have and was thankful the author cautioned readers to be careful, try minimal amounts of new-to-them herbs and double check/test periodically. That the herbs were limited to thirteen was wise, in my opinion. Also, that at least half are well known by most who will pick up the book.
I found the information to be more than I could fully take in in one evening so will be returning later to read more and read again to see what I might incorporate into my own life.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes Would I like to have this book in my library or give it as a gift? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds for the ARC – This is my honest review.
I loved this book Susan!!! A satisfactory quicker read. I'm much more motivated after reading to plant some herbs, remember my plant connections, and I am excited to pick up some new skills. Everything was easily readable and I love the rustic, woody themed photos. The potted garden photo got me really excited. I also enjoyed the bit at the end discussing divination and such; i too love to use charcoal discs for herb burning and felt validated knowing what the experience is like to feel very relaxed and at peace when in that setting. I'm craving a meditative divination filled night. 😁💨🍃🌀
Another fantastic resource! My favorite parts were the thirteen essential plants and the herbalist section. I have been super interested in making my own lotions, balms, cleaners, teas, and tinctures. She very thoroughly goes over what each ingredient does, warnings for each ingredient, substitutions... I love it. I'm gonna have to buy this book so that I can refer back to it in the future. I can't wait to try my own natural remedies from my garden! Five out of five stars to Green Witch Magick!
I love this book!! Working with the plants through herbalism and magic is what green witchcraft is all about. I love this book! Susan Ilka gives background information on what it means to be a green witch, gives historical context, then dives into working with the plants, both wild and cultivated. 13 plants that anyone has access to, whether you live in the country or the city. There’s so much information in each plant profile. I learned so much!
She provides really helpful gardening and foraging tips and dives into making culinary recipes, magical creations, and herbalism basics for tinctures, glycerites, infused oils, salves and more that you can customize with a variety of plants. There’s a lot of misinformation out there on crafting herbalism products safely, and Susan Ilka gives us carefully researched methods that are safe and easy. So helpful!
This book is a must have if you are into seriously working with plants and incorporating them into your everyday life. And the full page photographs that the author made are gorgeous!
This was yet another great book about witchcraft. I have now read a couple of books on green witchcraft specifically and this one is very good. It is laid out very intuitively and covers a lot of information a lot of which I didn't really know. The photos that are included are also beautiful and really make the experience so much better. This is another witchcraft book that is set up a bit like a coffee table book so you can just flip through it and read the sections that you want to at the moment without having to read the whole thing cover to cover. I had a fun time looking at the different sections as each of them had something unique to offer. Green witchcraft may not necessarily be for me but I can see this book being very helpful to others who want to get into the practice.
A free copy of this book was provided through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really loved this book, especially all the illustrations and images as well as the recipes in the third part. Furthermore, I liked that the author chose to focus on a few chosen herbs and go more in-depth with each one, keeping in mind accessibility for witches all across the world. Another plus is that the author points out multiple times that readers should do further research on their own and keep in mind that some herbs might cause skin irritation, issues for pregnant people or that they might interact with medications or health issues.
I highly recommend this book for everyone interested in green witchcraft but I'm convinced that even other practitioners will have great use for this book.
This book is a mindful look into the art of Green Witch Magick.
In a time where social media and influencers are on the rise, and people more concerned with creating witchy aesthetics than real Magick, Susan Tuttle provides the opposite. This book offers refreshing insight into the craft and gives a lot of information. Don't get me wrong, Susan Tuttle's book is gorgeous and aesthetically pleasing (as is her Instagram feed), but along with the loveliness, she provides a really informative look at historical context, botanicals and projects, among other things.
There is a terrific section on commonalities between witches and essentials for the craft. I also loved the section on spell jars, intentional teas, and sigils. There is much more to enjoy, but I don't want to give everything away.
This is a great book for beginners as well as the more-seasoned. I only hope she writes another.
What I love most about Green Witch Magick is that you can feel the connection that Susan Ilka Tuttle has with her plant allies. From the way she carefully captures their essence on film to the tenderness she incorporates into her recipes to the heartful magick that wraps around every word in this book, Susan has elevated the reciprocal connection between human folk and the plant folk in the realm of Witchcraft. It is clear by the volume of knowledge and creativity that Susan has been at her craft for a while. Thus said, I imagine her book will give me years of pleasure as I unravel each of these authentic methods of connecting with Green Magick and living in relationship with the natural world.
If you are looking for a way to add some green witch magick into your life then look no further than this wonderful new book from Susan Ilka Tuttle!
This book is perfect for anyone who wants to learn about the magickal properties of herbs and flowers. It’s packed with information on how each plant can be used in your spells, rituals, and daily life. You’ll also find gorgeous photos that show you what the plant looks like in real life!
The pages are thick and sturdy so they won’t tear easily like other books might. There are 13 different plants included in this book so there is something for everyone here. I know I will be reaching for this book every single day because it has everything I need all in one place!
I am always going to be obsessed with all things Green Witch Magick! That will never change. What I love most about these educational books, is that learning and knowledge is the foundation for all things magick.
If you are looking for beginner, intermediate, and advanced herbal remedy, recipes, and magical workings - this is the book for you. I am a newbie when it comes to forging, so this was a little treat. I am extremely looking forward to the upcoming Yule season and all the herbs that can be found and used for magical work.
Once again, this book is for anyone that wants to become more entuned with the earth and all the good that can come. Tons of information.
Such a beautiful, well-written book. Green Witch Magick, by Susan Ilka Tuttle gives you the tools to reclaim your relationship with nature. I love my daily walks foraging for the little thing nature provides and giving back to the earth. I have found this book to be a wonderful pass time as we wait for spring. The pictures are amazing, and I can't wait to use all the wonderful wisdom in our garden this year. If you love taking long walks looking for nature's bounty, working in the soil to grow your own non chemical produce, being one with nature, and how properly to use the energies of the plants in your rituals, then Green Witch Magick By Susan Ilka Tuttle, I highly recommend! #GreenWitchMagick #NetGalley
This is the best volume on the subject that I've picked up in a while, standing out from several other titles that featured, more or less, a bunch of wishy-washy dogma and ego. Tuttle neatly organizes her information for practical use, providing descriptive photos for herb identification while writing in a professional, near-scientific voice on each. I appreciate her being thorough without wasting my time. Not to say that this book is exhaustive; you're going to want to supplement it with other guides for stones, astrology, non-human fauna, and your own local trees/flora. But for one on the Green Path, whatever their professed religion or pantheon (I am personally solitary and non-Wiccan), this is an excellent starting place for the kitchen shelf.
Susan Ilka Tuttle was my first inspiration when I first started my plant foraging, wildcrafting, gardening and just an even bigger love for the appreciation of Mother Earth and what she had provided us with. I am captivated and bewitched by her amazingly stunning products and still am to this day. Her knowledge of plants and her craft is truly amazing and beautiful. When I heard that she was writing a book... I knew I had to have it. Thank you for being such an amazing soul and inspiration on my journey! "Reconnecting with plants is one way to reestablish our connection with Mother Earth. It is the way of the green witch and ultimately the goal of this book." ~Susan Ilka Tuttle ✨🌿💜🌿✨
Kindred Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2021 Kindred spirit to all life, Susan Ilke Tuttle, has cultivated a relationship to the cosmic and natural world that is felt to be on a very high level. This exquisitely created book from her life-connected heart is shared with us in complete love. Our health and well-being are in great hands here. May it inspire seeing a bigger picture, a nourishing self-care practice, and respect for all that lives. It certainly does for me.
Loving this book! I really like that Susan focuses on a small number of safe and easily attainable plants. Also that she provides very detailed information about each one. It makes me feel much more comfortable starting out.
I’ve been hesitant to start working with plants, as I’m worried about accidentally using something toxic… her guidance makes me feel more confident.
The photography is fantastic and the design & layout make the book easy to use as a reference guide. Looking forward to trying some of the projects soon!
Green Witch Magick is a Must Have! This incredible book is a magickal delight! A wealth of wisdom to be discovered on each page. “Essential plants and crafty spell work for a witches cupboard” is a perfect description for this book written by Susan Ilka Tuttle. Susan’s gorgeous full color photography is incorporated throughout her book. Each page is filled with witchy home remedies, spellwork, plant knowledge and so much more! The book itself is excellent quality and a must have for your collection it also is an excellent gift idea.
The layout of this beautiful book is well-organized and easy to follow. Informative text is accompanied by stunning photos. This is a great book for all levels of green witches and those who are "green witch curious." I look forward to incorporating much of Susan's herbal and magickal knowledge into my own craft.
PS - Some of my current skincare is made by Susan and one of the recipes is included in this book! They are life-changing products made with all natural ingredients, skill, and love. You can find more on her apothecary website: www.inthewoodbotanicals.com.
This book feels very old timey witchy, like it was written by the Witches that taught me the craft meany moons ago. It feels like your witchy granny is talking to you, which has a really nice comforting effect as you read. The recipes are some that I will try myself as this is my first proper green magick witchcraft book, as I prefer crystals and candles myself. However I'm looking to expand my knowledge and this was the perfect witchy read to do so, I'm so excited to start these projects in 2023 🖤📚
Note: I did not read this in its entirety - rather I read the intro and then skimmed the rest to get a good idea for content to determine whether or not I might purchase it. What I did read was interesting and easy to understand. It's not so overwhelming as others I've come across on this topic. Thus, I'd say it's a great introduction to the topic. However, I cannot give it a rating since I didn't read it all. And, I decided this wasn't exactly what I was looking for.
This is an area of magick that has always intrigued me, but one that i don't really know much about. This book is perfect for a beginner to this style of magick, like me. It doesn't over complicate things, and the layout and structure of the book is easy to follow, and would be easy to look certain things up as and when you need more info.
I'm not sure if a more knowledgable witch would enjoy this book as much, as it did seem a bit basic - however, i actually adored it! And as I say, the imagery and photographs are stunning.
I’ve actually been looking for something that is basically what this book is for months. After reading Witches in America and thinking it painted a very misleading picture, I wanted something that would be more informative without being overloaded with info. It’s basically a very intro level look into herbalism based witch craft. I think it was a great resource for starter info.
Green Witch Magick is a beautifully written book, the recipes are detailed and easy to follow and the photographs are exquisite. Susan's knowledge and explanation of the plants and their useful properties is very informative, my new favorite book. Bought one as a gift also.
Packed with everything from gardening to gathering, healing salves to spell jars, this book is a delight cover to cover. Infused with the author's knowledge and beautiful photography, everything is presented in clear easy-to-follow steps and I can't wait to try some of the recipes and rituals.
It's an informative and interesting book, very useful it you are starting the Path. I liked the illustrations and appreciated the projects and how the book is organised. Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
This book was a great beginners guide to green witchery. The way she writes is enjoyable and easy to read. I like the brief intro into witchcraft and different kinds of witches. I also appreciate how she brings attention to the appropriation that takes place in modern Witchcraft.
