Warm-up’s over. Easy mode may be off now, but nothing’s impossible when they’re all in it together. Get ready for this crew of dorks overflowing with pizzazz to turn things up a notch! There’s no clumsy that they can’t make cool. Everybody, please return to your seats…It’s time for Act II.
Updated Review: 8/11/22: I absolutely love these guys so much! Still as wholesome and fun as always! <3 <3 <3
Original Review 6/29/21: Ahh I can't get over how adorable these guys are! They were already super cute in volume one, but even more so now!
And speaking of volume one, I laughed in this volume almost as much as I did in the previous one! This volume however has much more of a story flow compared to its prequel of being episodic-like. I really liked how the mangaka was able to weave these guys into each other's lives because I would have been super bummed if they didn't interact more with another. I very very VERY much enjoyed all the guys being together and even two of them having a mentor-like role! (Though I was wrong in who I thought it would be. LOL!)
One thing that surprised me is that Souma was my "least favorite" character before, but I deeply enjoyed him in this volume. He has such a heart of gold and his goofs cracked me up the most!
Hayate is still a favorite and adore his character to pieces! HE IS SO PRECIOUS!! He continues to be a cinnamon roll and just love him!
Shun and Mimi-san are still amazing as ever! <3 (That chapter with Mima-san was hilarious! Definitely the most awe-inducing!) The art is also just as lovely as before! <3
This was a great sequel! It is still packed with humor, but it has even more heart! Highly recommend to those looking to have a good time with fun characters!
It's another volume of the daily lives of four clumsy/awkward good-looking guys. Shun worries about not being able to play with his teammates if he can't pass his exams, and Hayate finds himself agreeing to be Shun's tutor during his first day of work at Shun's older sister's cafe. Souma worries that his older brother is overworking himself, and both Takayuki and Hayate accidentally misjudge people (Shun and Souma, respectively) based on their appearance. The volume ends with the introduction of a fifth "clumsy-cool" guy.
As in the first volume, not much really happened, but the plot isn't the point of this series. It's the kind of thing you read when you need a dose of no-stress quality wholesomeness.
My favorite thing about this series is the way the guys admire and/or support each other. They might occasionally misjudge each other, but there isn't an ounce of meanness in any of the characters and the things they do. At worst, Hayate accidentally made a girl think he'd rejected her, but even that was handled mildly.
I continue to like Hayate the most out of the bunch, although all of the guys had good moments: Shun rushing to help Takayuki's niece, Souma trying to do something nice for his older brother, Takayuki noticing the ways both Souma and Hayate put in a lot of effort, etc. (Okay, so maybe Takayuki is the most boring of all the guys, but I still love the way Hayate looks up to him.)
The worst thing about this series is that each volume is incredibly short. I really wish this were being released in omnibus editions.
this is definitely a stress-reliever, I'll need more of this!!!!! they're all so cute and this time they have met each other, so it's extra funny hahahha
I totally didn't almost cry when Mima was all "dang if I'd slept today I wouldn't have had this moment with my niece and friends" this manga is too pure
I really enjoyed the second volume of this series and I think that this series has more potential in the future. At first, I thought that there would be a gay relationship between some of the characters and there is not which is kind of disappointing, but I am still enjoyed my read! I would love to know more about the fifth character that was just introduced in the last chapter. He seems like one of them who is handsome, but clumsy.
This was awesome! Not as funny as the first one, but these guys were wonderful as before. I'm not sure how I feel about there being a fifth one though...
― Rating: 4 Stars ★★★★ Play It Cool Guys is truly the type of manga series you can sit and read through in one sitting, its full of humor + such a page-turner! Following 4 good-looking, seemingly "cool" guys who in reality are extremely dorky, clumsy or straight up awkward, this manga is hilarious as it is wholesome.
You know books that are comfort reads, books you can completely devour and not have to think about it, Kokone Nata's manga has easily become that for me!! When the initial first volume came onto my radar I knew it would be a new favorite, so yes Hayate, Shun, Takayuki and Souma are literal cinnamon rolls that can truly do no wrong (they are just so misunderstood).
Volume 2 was definitely one of my favorites because not only were their stories more interconnected, but there was indeed a whole new lineup of scenarios illustrating new awkward sides to the guys.
I like that the series embraces the slice of life storytelling in exploring the mundane day-to-day lives of the guys from Shun's life as a handball athlete, to Hayate's new job at the cafe & being convinced to go to a mixer, Souma making lunch for his older brother, even Takayuki looking after his niece!
As always, each volume is filled with the most awkward, silly goofs or mix-ups from the guys in the most wholesome, relatable ways (for example: in Ch #11: Hayate is about to pet a dog which he thinks is about to run up to him, instead it rushes to play with another dog) [will delve into more plot-specifics in my full review]
The full-color artwork really adds that charm and uniqueness to the series which wouldn't be the same without it (after seeing the anime pv, i am literally so ready for the adaptation!!).
Overall I absolutely adored the sequel volume and with the 3rd having released not too long ago, cannot wait to pick it up. If you need a wholesome, comedic slice-of-life series following the silly awkwardness of clumsy guys, this series is so fantastic!!
Ça me fait tellement rire.
So, this review is more for my notes than anything else.
I'm on the hunt for manga that I can put in my school library.
I can't put anything in that has too much swearing or any sex in it so it's REALLY hard to find middle/high school manga that fits the bill.
But someone pointed me to this series and I think it will work!
It's basically a slice-of-life novel with a group of guys. Some really funny stuff is in here like the opening scene where one character loses their earbud.
Content Notes:
Swearing/profanity: One instance of "I really screwed the pooch"
I liked this one a little more than the last one mostly because I like all the guys interacting with each other. I feel like I have the same opinions as I did the first one, the color schemes are nice and it’s a quick fun read, but that’s about it. The clumsiness didn’t feel as corny in this one either. It felt like it’s starting to establish a story while the first one was mostly just introducing the characters. I feel like this would be a better watch. Not the best think I’ve ever read, but I like it enough to pick up the next volume.
Honestly, PROTECC THESE FOUR GUYS AT ALL COSTS
The way they’re so clumsy makes me worried for their life, but at the same time it’s so hilarious I could die of laughing. I think my reactions when making clumsy mistakes would be to react the same way as Hayate, so I have a bit of soft spot for him. Takayuki too, because well, he’s sort of an airhead but in a really cool way, and it’s what I love in men, I guess! And I’m so happy the four of them are starting to become closer now <3
Once again, just a fun cozy time with these characters that have now met each other, which makes things extra cute! I still have a soft spot for the first volume, that was more deep than this one. However, I still enjoyed the wholesomeness of this second volume.
If you feel like reading a slice of life manga that is fun and comforting I strongly recommend this series. If it keeps on going like this, it will probably be the first manga series I manage to finish without getting bored. That's very nice!
With the amusing novelty of volume 1 mostly worn off, this just wasn't all that interesting. It isn't bad, and I don't expect slice-of-life to DO all that much, but I need a little more to the characters than just the quiet humor in being awkward if I'm going to continue paying a premium (color pages) for such short volumes.
I really liked this addition to the story. We finally get to see the characters interact more with each other, and I have to admit, I'm a huge fan of the friendships that we're beginning to see blossom between them. I liked the plot lines in this installment better than the ones in volume one, and I can't wait to see where the story goes in the next book!
Honestly, these guys make my day or night always. They are my stress reliever and they made me so happy cus they are so goofy and clumsy. I love it. And now, we might have another guy included in the group. I love it.
Another delightful slice of life from these 4 boys lives! I love how they become more connected and how each of them is becoming inspired from the others! Also how sweet of them show up to the sports game. All for different reasons! I am feeling found family vibes!!!
This volume is just as fun and wholesome as the first one! It's sweet to see them grow closer, and I'm super interested to see what happens with Shun and Igarashi, and how he fits into the story overall. Just a feel-good read all around.
