Brutal Reign #1

Merciless Prince

Rate this book
He was never going to be my Prince Charming…
Arrogant. Ruthless. Breathtaking.

Aiden Kilpatrick is heir to the Irish mafia, and that’s bad news for me. I’m the D’Ignoti princess, after all. Daughter of the Italian Don who once betrayed his family.

I’ve lived my life in a gilded cage.
Untouched…
Until he kicks down my door.

Forced to sign a marriage contract, I’m given to him. A debt repayment. A plea for mercy.
But he is merciless.

Suddenly, I’m his to possess.
His to corrupt.
His to rule.

Then, his to save.
Because when the demons of my past come to reclaim my soul, I find myself craving his protection.

Those stormy emerald eyes. That wild hair. The dimples. The desire.
They call to me.

And I realize that the only thing more dangerous than falling for the devil,
Is going through hell without him by my side.

*Merciless Prince is a standalone dark mafia romance novel with mature themes and a happily ever after. It is the first book of the Brutal Reign series.

Style: Dark Mafia Romance
Story: 5/5
Enjoyment: 4/5
Dark Level: 2/5
Sexual: SEX-CITINGLY GOOD & APPEALING
Triggers: No
Male: Alpha, Seductive & Possessive
Series: Book 1
Pages: loc. 5069
Kindle Unlimited: Yes

STORY:
The moment the story starts at chapter one, it dives in with Elisa being sold. This is good for me personally, because there are no dragged out scenes leading up to them meeting. In the beginning, the hate oozing from Elisa towards Aiden and the dark Intensity from Aiden towards Elisa in the beginning intensifies the reading for me excitingly. I love that this is not just a book labeled Mafia, as the author gave us actual Mafia activity with action and suspense wrapped up with all that sexual attraction between Elisa and Aiden. The climax of this story had me on pins and needles. Definitely was a treat for me and got better with each chapter.

CHEMISTRY:
Aiden is so seductive, I think he could talk me out of my panties while telling me to go rob a bank naked. The scenes with which he and Elisa are alone together, I could not blink; they read so good. Each time the author teases us with more with both characters physically, I just wanted more. Elisa was Aiden’s weakness, and it showed. She was held captive, but I think it was Aiden who was being taken captive.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS
Aiden’s brothers Nolan and Shane played a big part in this story as they will get their stories. So many characters and each played their positions well.

Overall, great entertainment. I was stimulated all over and appreciated the story, action, characters and at the top of my list, physical chemistry.

***I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read and hope this review was helpful.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book has almost the exact same plot as Faith Summers' "Ruthless Prince". The only difference is that the hero in this book is Irish, not Italian. I got bored reading it because it isn't all that original. I returned it for a refund.

I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS BOOK! We have the arrogant, ruthless, breathtaking, Aiden Kilpatrick. The innocent, pure, untouched, Elisa D'Ignoti. She's the daughter of the asshole Italian Don who once betrayed Aiden's family and brought pain to them. She was supposed to be a pawn in the underworld game, nothing more. He was supposed to be a merciless monster, nothing else. Love didn't get the memo, instead, it had different plans for them. She wasn't supposed to be the light that pulled him out of the darkness. He wasn't supposed to be her own personal twisted version of Prince Charming.

Aiden is an Irish Mafia Don. His past left him broken and his heart frozen over. His life was hard and cruel since childhood. He had to fight to push through to become the strong and powerful giant he is now.

Elisa is the naive Italian Princess. Locked away from the world for her whole life, simply moving from one tightly guarded cage to another. Her whole life, she was just used as a pawn, nothing more. All she wanted was freedom and to be able to help others through the act of medicine.

Both characters had me speechless. I am so in love with both of them. The hate and rage they had for each other that transformed into desire and love at some point. Their chemistry screamed enemies to lovers. Elisa was just supposed to be a captive and pawn. Something to get revenge on her father. Aiden was supposed to be her enemy. The man that now held her captive. That didn't stop the walls from crumbling and the feelings that they both tried s desperately to ignore came rushing in. What's worst than falling for the devil himself? Going through hell without him by your side.

Aiden could have my heart (even though he already has it).....and my panties with just a look my way. Everything about him had me melting. I wanted to hug, high five, and smack Elisa at the same time. She won me over with her character growth though. I loved how she went from damsel in distress to 'I'll save my damn self or die try.' The side characters were also amazing. I need a Tara in my life. Nolan and Shane are such amazing and loyal brothers. Although, I was ready to take my hoops off and throw hands at everyone in this book at least once. I really hope Tara and Shane end up together. Rian is such a good father, God Damn. Ciro could burn in hell for all I care. Actually no. I changed my mind. Hell is too good for him.

This book is PERFECT in all caps. Every chapter had me even more hooked than the last. It took so much from me to put this down to sleep. I had a shitty week and this book was the only reason I looked forward to waking up. For some of the plot, I connected the dots pretty early and saw certain things coming while other plot twists just had me shook. This book said 'Dark Mafia Romance and delivered exactly that. It's been a while since a book made me feel so caught up in it that I forgot what day it was. I signed up for a merciless monster with a soft spot for his girl and that's precisely what I got. This book was the perfect balance between mafia and romance. It had everything. It was dark. It was interesting and captivating. It had the suspense I craved and it had some hot scenes. Everything was intense. The love, the hate, the darkness, the sex. It had me on my knees begging for more. (Which I'm getting because Brutal Savior and Cruel Knight is coming soon) I definitely recommend you give this book a chance. Go get yourself a copy right now, in my opinion, it's definitely worth it. I just have one more thing to say to end this review. TRIQUETRA.

Very Typical Dark Mafia Romance That Doesn’t Break Any New Ground.

Typical Dark Romance Mafia fair…

You have a forced marriage between the virginal Princess Elise ( surprise…NOT)

And

The Big, dark, tattooed, Aiden.

Aiden. Now, the “Don of the Kilpatrick Clan. Leader of the Irish mafia and new king of the underworld “

He is also after revenge for being handed over to the evil Ciro D’Ignoti,
( Elise Father)
as a twelve year old, after death of his mother, and the very same man causing the subsequent, capitulation of his father business “interests”

Then we jump into the present, where the tables have well and truely turned.

The Kilpatrick’s are now billionaires in control , and it’s Ciro’s family is on the skids.

Thus, Ciro is forced to sell his only daughter to the Kilpatrick’s to cover his debts.
The Kilpatrick’s are all about reaping their revenge on the once powerful D’ignati family.

( Deep breath … Here we go 😏)

This author must have read “ How to write Romance 101” because the flowery narrative beings to get a little over the top at times.
Here’s two early examples of the writing style you can expect -

“It’s obvious. My cherry wants to be popped. My fragile flower plucked” 😐

And THIS!

“while he has only plucked a few of my petals so far, it is only a matter of time before he yanks me from my virgin soil and desecrates me with his desire.”😖

Boarding on Mills and Boon territory right there.

Of course Elise is all bashful at how aroused she is getting, and shocked at the behaviour of her new, soon to be husband, who is determined to break her and return her to her father before killing him.

DNF! This one I’m afraid.

It just seemed a little bit too familiar.
I guarantee, 20% IN, and I can tell you almost exactly where this book is heading.

There is even a hint at a relationship between another of the Kilpatrick brothers.
Presumably, to kick off another character in the series.

Yeah…
There just seems to be nothing new or invigorating plot wise here.
And the narrative is laughable
SOOO ….
I’ll have to pass

Would have preferred a more confident hero with less insecurities!

I liked this, but didn't love it. I don't mind anti-heros, hero's who are just a bit bad. But I really don't like hero's who lack confidence or are wishy-wahy and this one was both. He's supposed to be taking control from his father yet he kept questioning himself about how to deal with mob issues for probably 60-65% of the story. I didn't like that he kept running hot and cold regarding the h. He constantly fluctuates between nice, then cold or cruel because of his fear of any kind of connection between them. Anytime there seemed to be feelings developing he runs. One minute their making love, the next he's running away because he's afraid of the connection, of caring for her. (He even realizes his own cowardace.) He does get better towards the end with regards to the h, but you have to put up with his A-hole and the wishy-washy side for about 60% of the book. In the end he was likeable and finally more confident!

Now the h is a different story. She shows more courage considering what happened to her. She's an innocent who's been isolated from others and hidden away most of her life. We know she found the H very attractive at first sight, but when she realizes why he's there, of course she fears what her future will be and is angry that she's lost the freedom she thought she was finally going to get. So it's easier to accept her body's physical reaction during his attempts to seduce her. (It's a slow, gradual seduction, several interactions of giving her just a tastes ... a kiss, a touch ... arousing her, even giving her her first orgasm, but then stopping and leaving until eventually he does finally complete the act.) I did like that he took the time to arouse, seduce, so that it's not forced. I just hated that when she responded and there was a connection he ran scared.

If you don't mind hero's who are uncertain, who make mistakes and lots of angst in your story because of it, you will likely enjoy this story immensely. For myself, I prefer my hero's confident and my angst caused by outside sources rather than the main characters stupidity or insecurities. So while this story was okay for me, I would have liked it better with a hero I could admire more.

Almost an exact copy of Ruthless Prince

Seriously this is just Ruthless Prince by Faith Summers rewritten in New York instead of California. Right down to the double cross selling (auctioning) his daughter to a famous Russian assassin. How she escapes and the hero ends up caught only to save the day in the end. And most importantly a bomb in the meeting between families killing the father of the hero. I didn’t see it mentioned but I’m betting the trip to the Ukraine would have landed the heroine right into the hands of said Russian assassin. There are so many ways she could have handled this better instead of copying someone else’s work.

3 - 3.25 mafia smut stars!

This felt very similar to book 6 but different characters. Aiden buys Elisa from her father and Aiden plans on using her as revenge against her father. Feelings are caught, chaos ensues and love is realized. The end.

It was a “mid” mafia romance read, that’s pretty much it.

I’m normally a few paragraph kind of review person but there was nothing really spectacular or bad enough to warrant multiple paragraphs breaking this down.

But here are a few things Ill give you about it. The romance was forced between both the main characters, no chemistry what so ever.
The author tried to throw in a plot twist in the last 10% of the book that just didn’t vibe with the rest of the book, it was stupid and literally brought the entire book down a half star because it ruined the flow.

The majority of the side characters were subpar.
Maeve was pretty much the only good one. I still genuinely have no idea what tf was going on with Tara / who’s side she was actually on bc she seemed sus throughout the entire book.

What an action filled, steamy ride ahead😍😍

This book starts off with Elisa high with energy that her father who's caged her, her entire life is finally giving her a chance to fulfill her dreams by letting her go to Ukraine for her medicine study.

But all her dreams come crashing down when she finds her father with a couple of strangers and before she knows it, she's made to sign a contract that even a marriage contract to the handsome but mysterious stranger.

She's horrified to find herself in this situation and all her pleas fall on deaf ears as she's taken away from her home and to a stranger's home about to be married off in some weeks.

That prologue was so chilling and painful as we witness Aiden's past and the reason he has such hatred towards Elisa's father and his promise of revenge.

Aiden is an unapologetic man who has risen from the pain and abuse metted on him by his enemies. He's built a fortune now when once he was a captive and his family had nothing.

Aiden is hence Ruthless and even if he feels Elisa is innocent, he can't help how his past has turned him into the man he is today.

But still I felt for Elisa. How she was conflicted towards her feelings. You can't accept a fate that's thrown upon you one fine day without regards for your dreams and this new stranger expects full submission from her body and mind.

AHH... Even though Aiden gives Elisa time but he still takes moments with what he thinks is his to claim and THOSE ARE SO FREAKING FIRE MOMENTS AS LITTLE BY LITTLE AIDEN STARTS DIRTYING UP HIS PRINCESS.
UNTIL FINALLY WHEN THEY BOTH SUCCUMB TO THEIR SIZZLING CHEMISTRY.. THE INNOCENT AND THE BEAST TOGETHER.. FIRE.. 😍😍🔥🔥🔥

Also there are other things at work. The sneak attack and the fact that now the Russians are back of Aiden and his family and business.
Secrets, Deceit and a past shrouded in mystery there's so much at stake and you have to be on your toes not knowing whom to trust and be careful with your next moves.

AHH.. Those scenes at the end, I was freaking out, feeling there was no way out. What would happen.. AHH.. I was totally scared and wow what a ride this one took me out on.
That ending just gives rise to more questions as Aiden and his brothers find something secretive and yet don't know what it means. I can't wait to find out more about it in book 2. Loved loved this one. ❤️❤️❤️

*First time reading author

Merciless Prince is the first book that I have read by Sasha Leone, and I have to say I did enjoy it. Aiden and Elisa end up in an arranged marriage that neither asked for nor wants in any way. Now this of course is like most mafia stories.

The connection, chemistry, and storyline are done wonderfully. I read this book in one sitting since I could not put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next before I could go to bed. I am excited to see where Sasha takes us next.

1.5/5⭐️

This had so much potential and I was quite looking forward to reading this book but it was just really disappointing.

The beginning started off strong and the prologue was really interesting but from there on it slowly just got worse and worse.

It’s your typical mafia marriage of convenience story.
The Mmc wants to take revenge on the fmc’s father due to what he did in the past and marries her as a revenge act but ends up falling in love with her. Elise is the innocent little virgin that grew up sheltered from the outside world and Aiden is the dangerous mafia leader who wants to corrupt her.

I felt like both of the characters were very childish and immature in some situations.

There really isn’t anything groundbreaking about this book or anything that stood out to me.

Im not sure if I will continue with this series.

It was just meh!!

There was just not much that was actually original about this book, I genuinely felt like I had read it all before.
The beginning was very rushed and there was a lot going on. The book was boring up until the second half. Then in the second half, it started to get interesting but then too much was happening all at once and there wasn't any build up. There was a "cliffhanger" but it was just so random and hasn't made me want to pick up the next book at all.

I didn't not like this book but I didn't love it. It was a bit of a miss for me.

DNF— this started off with promise but then fizzled fast. The same Io g drawn out internal monologues by the fmc over and over. Meanwhile the MMC’s pov is a lot of mafia business= BORING! I made it to 50% then flipped to three end… I didn’t care enough to read the epilogue.

I see in alot of reviews that others say this exactly like a Faith summers book… I hope not because I usually 4 star her books. This was so boring I can’t imagine. It’s a replication of something worth reading.

Meine Meinung:

Fazit

Ein fesselnder Auftakt dieser Reihe.

Don’t let 3 stars fool you, it’s still a good read. Short synopsis: girl is forced to marry powerful guy, guy falls in love but won’t admit it; girl falls in love with said guy. People fight, torture and murder- happy ever after, or is it?… 🤔 This book, just like all Sasha Leone’s books, is very violent but the passion it top tier ❤️‍🔥

this was a book that i did not finish. it is rare that i don’t finish a book even if it is terrible, so i decided to write a review and give you the opportunity to see why i couldn’t finish this. you really should read all of this because i had to and it’s actually laughable. for reference i only made it through 35 pages

TW: super cringey writing and nasty ass smut ahead

here are some quotes i highlighted and my notes on them:

1. “Are you nervous?” Felix slows the limo down at the corner of Baker Street, just like he always does. “Of course,” I giggle, my gaze drifting off to the future. “I’ve never been outside of New York before, let alone the country, and now I get to go halfway around the world!? It’s amazing, but also nerve-racking.” “It’s also suspicious.””

this is giving weird pick me vibes around the body guard. but i’m pretty sure she’s not supposed to like him so that’s weird

2. “Nowhere is safe for a princess.” He knows I hate it when he points out that I’m mafia royalty, but I can take a ribbing—with a father like mine, it was a necessary skill for survival. “Everywhere is safe when I have my Uncle Felix there to protect me,” I lilt back. “Damn right.”

another set of weird relationship vibes between the two. kind of feels like he might be in love with her and she’s just been groomed him
super gross though

3. “I’ve met doctors and nurses and all sorts of people I would have never come in contact with behind these walls of mine. They all share the same dreams I have. We want to help people in any way we can, and for one reason or another we all chose to do this through medicine. For me, that started when I first read about Florence Nightingale. The Lady with the Lamp gave hope to a young girl who saw no light at the end of her dark tunnel. I may not be able to help myself, but maybe, with a little persistence and pestering, I’d be able to help others.”

the fuck you mean reading about florence nightingale, like i know you’re sheltered but even sheltered girls don’t pick up books like that and become “so obsessed”

4. “Felix has been in my life for as long as I can remember. He’s like a protective uncle, and as one of my father’s most trusted men, he has a little more say than most.”

again making it weirder than in needs to be

5. “These men are mafia. It’s obvious at first sight. But they aren’t Italian. Irishmen.”

i’m just picturing her doing some weird full body shudder at the thought of… irishmen

6. “My father hates the Irish, especially the criminals. He believes them to be savages, not organized and sophisticated like the Italian mob.”

i cannot explain this but hear me out “my daddy drives a mercedes, well my daddy drives a rolls royce” vibes

7. “Turning around, I see Cassius li Sacchi, my father’s mute war general.”

first of all, the name, what the hell?? second of all, “mute war general”?? why is there so much description for a character that will probably be so irrelevant, it could have even done without the mute part. also war general, like i know you’re the mob but there is no need for some war general ass shit
also i keep reading it as “cassius lil (like a rapper) sacchi”

8. “But now my innocence is in grave danger. A savage Irish prince wants to desecrate my pureness.”

i can’t even i’m sorry

9. “He called me his little flower. Does he plan to pick my petals until I’m spoiled and barren?”

so gross

10. “A deep sigh escapes my trembling lips. This is the last moment of my untouchable innocence. With only a gaze, Aiden is corrupting my purity.”

nope that’s weird, getting a little too weird here

11. “My bra drops and my breasts spill free, seen by someone else for the first time since they came to be. More embarrassing than the shame of giving my virtue to the lustful devil is the newly exposed proof of my own arousal.”

just read it again because i cannot

12. “Should I pluck thou from the uncorrupted earth in which thee grew, little flower?” The sudden tinge of a Gaelic accent in Aiden’s words pulls at my heart until it’s somewhere in my highly pressurized gut.”

the shakespearean dialogue, the highly pressurized gut, what more could you want

13. “Is thou wet enough to be taken?”

NOOOOO MY EYES HAVE BEEN VIOLATED
this feels like something the dude on tiktok who makes the nice guy tiktok’s would make a video about

14. “My whole body spasms as Aiden splashes through my juices in a painful yet utterly pleasurable flurry of short and wild jabs.”

this feels like a man wrote this book but i swear it’s a woman, because that’s nasty and in no way “pleasurable”

again just a reminder that i was only 35 pages through this book. i don’t think i will ever recover from reading this. i feel like i need to wash my eyes with bleach and then maybe swallow some too.

I surprised at how much I liked this. There’s this whole trend of mafia books with titles similar to this one and covers with broody models. Some are good, some are not. They all seem to meld together in my head. I had pretty low expectations for this and was pleasantly surprised.

I always love with a merciless H with the intention of crushing his revenge bride ends up being soft for her instead. Aidan still had a few moments that made me want to shake him but he was mostly a big softie for her.

She caved for him pretty easily but since he wasn’t able to bring himself to be as mean to her as he intended I didn’t mind. I like a softer h when the H deserves it.

READ THIS BOOK IF YOU LOVE MAFIA ROMANCES LIKE ME YOU WILL LOVE THIS. I said it in capital letter am that serious!! I lost track home many bombs went off and gun fights ahhh I LOVE IT

Elisa & Aiden is a complicated story especially at Aiden's side of the story. I don't want spoil his backstory too much because it play a important part to the story. Elisa had a big heart and all she want to do is be a nurse to help people. She got the freedom her father a.k.a asshole grated her then taken away. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and it a Enemies to Lovers romance and to very beautiful and the beast.

OMFG I love Tara she had a incredible backstory and I want to learn more. His brothers Nolan and Shane I love them too. So many colourful and dangerous and strong characters THAT I can not wait to see more of😍🖤😆

Dark, Dirty, Deceptive, Dusty, Defiantly Daring! Yes you get all that and more with Miss Leones new release! I could not put it down once I started and I am BLOWN AWAY! You will Rage, Rebel and Revel in this story. Sasha brings the most intriguing and genuine story to light. You meet Elisa who thought she was the apple of her fathers eyes but soon found that she was just a pawn to achieve power. Aiden, well for me being a complete and utter tool at times redeemed himself over and over, He proved to me that the underlying that no one sees is who he really is. Pull up a seat and enjoy this brutally dark story that will have your heart flying through your chest and enjoy because mercy has no standing here!

This book had me on the edge of my seat. I started reading it and could not put it down because I was so enraptured in this story between Elisa and Aiden. Elisa is living her life as normal as she can for be the Princess of the Don when one day she is given to Aiden for her fathers debt. This is where the story gets crazy and I mean crazy because Elisa knows Aiden is dark but she doesn't know that the darkness is going to come her way and from someone she loves. Man this story is effing amazing and I can't wait for book two in this series.

So go on out and one click this bad boy and enjoy the roller coaster of a ride.

Heavy on the Mafia part

"A dark mafia romance" is kind of a stretch, mostly the FMC sits in her room while the MMC broods over everything in front of his face that he cannot see. There's a lot of telling instead of showing but over all the story clicks. I would have liked to have seen more agency from the FMC, overall this is a mafia story with a dash of dark romance. It would stand perfectly well on its own if the FMC had gone willingly as well.

Good plot but the commentary was meh 🫤. Like why do we keep bringing up that miss girl has HAZEL EYES like omggggggggggg WE GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also the spicy scenes are too dramatically worded for me. But overall it had a very entertaining plot.
