A wedding to die for? When an old friend asks reporter Guinivere Jones for her help, saying it’s a matter of life or death, she reluctantly agrees. But when strange things start happening, Guin wonders if it’s worth risking her own life, as well as her heart.
Book seven in the bestselling Sanibel Island Mystery series, A Perilous Proposal takes readers back to sunny Sanibel Island, Florida, where a much-talked-about wedding is about to take place, and features characters readers have come to love, including investigative journalist Guinivere Jones, stoic Sanibel Detective William O’Loughlin, Guin’s best friend and fellow beachcomber Shelly, and some blasts from the past.
Whether you are a fan of cozy mysteries, love Sanibel, or simply enjoy a good romantic comedy, you will say “I do” to A Perilous Proposal.
Jennifer Lonoff Schiff is the author of the popular Sanibel Island Mystery series and the stand-alone novels Tinder Fella, a delightful rom-com set in NYC, and Something's Cooking in Chianti, a culinary mystery set in Italy.
Prior to her career as an author, Jennifer worked as a fact-checker, researcher, writer, and/or editor for a variety of magazines and book publishers. She eventually left the publishing world to found a boutique marketing communications agency that helped companies tell their story, for which she won several awards.
When not busy working on her next novel, Jennifer can be found playing with her two cats, taking long walks on the beach, or with her nose in someone else's book.
This is book seven in the Sanibel Island Mystery series. I love the characters and how they play off of one another. I love all of the references to Sanibel Island, Florida. It is just a fun read to take one away from everyday life. Guin has received a proposal offer. Should she take it or just ignore it? Is someone unhappy with the proposal offer? This was a fun and fast page turner and I loved how the story ended!!
A Perilous Proposal is another great story in the Sanibel Island Mystery series! I love how Ms. Schiff once again created such exciting twists and turns in this mystery that surprisingly included spy’s and espionage. Along with the main characters from the previous books we are introduced to a few shady ones, which truly invigorates the plot. As usual this can be read as a stand alone book but to really enjoy this series you should begin with book one. You will get to know the characters personally and definitely the island’s beauty. Reading this series makes me miss Sanibel and I am eager to return. I cannot wait for the next release!
I loved that this book went in another direction. I kept waiting to see who done it but it wasn't that type of book.....I loved the new twists and turns...they kept me on the edge of my seat and per my norm I didn't see it coming. I just hope I don't have to wait too long for the next one to come out!!
As a beach read this one meets its purpose. I did find the idea of a fake wedding for the purpose of solving a mystery a bit much to wrap my mind around. If you read this try to let your imagination go to the level of nothingness so you can keep going with this idea that a woman would perform a fake wedding when the person she loves advises her against it. The plot was not believable so I flew through it for fun. Looking forward to her next one.
Wow, a lot happened in this book!!! Finally thought the detective, Bill, ended up with Guin…not this time. Birdy and his foolish wedding proposal idea to try to fool everyone. Guin was save right before the “I do” with a shot to the arm. This stopped the wedding - but who tried to kill her? There were so many unanswered questions, even from the hospital that Guin wanted to find the answers to. There were several choices: Bettina, Natasha, and Angelique. None fit, but yet they all did.
I am glad that the wedding was cancelled and she is herself, alone. She did find that elusive junonia shell - made a wish on it as directed by a fellow sheller. To be continued….

I grew up vacationing on Sanibel Island, so reading these books by Jennifer Schiff always transports me back to those weeklong family getaways. I was elated when I saw this one was released and quickly read it in a few days! I love reading about Guin’s latest exploits and I can’t wait for the next book!
I love Sanibel and Captivating, having visited many times. The local descriptions are great, the story line is a bit of a stretch, but overall it doesn’t matter. The length, pace, interactions all grab you and pull you in. This one was almost impossible to put down. Wish the next one was here to read now.
Enjoyed this book!!!! This is book 7 in the Sanibel Island Mysteries. Takes readers back to sunny Sanibel Island Florida. A much talked about wedding is about to take place and features characters we have grown to love Det William O'Loughlin best friend and beach comber Shelly and some blasts from the past. This book is a great romantic comedy.
Jennifer has another hit. Guin has gotten into another situation. I love reading about all the places on Sanibel where we have been. I am amazed at her knowledge about shells!
I love Jennifer Schiff’s Sanibel series. I’ve read all of them and this book built on the others. It was an intriguing plot and had an energetic pace. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about why Guin (the main character) would agree to Birdy’s wild scheme. It seemed a little out of her character. That said, it made for a fun read.
