Good to the Last Death #5

You Light Up My Midlife Crisis

Rate this book
Midlife is definitely a journey. The road has massive potholes.
And the crisis… it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Being forty is supposed to be freaking fabulous not fatal.

Taking on a daunting new job minus the description isn’t the smartest move I’ve ever made, even if it was to save a friend. Hopefully, it doesn’t turn out to be the stupidest… or deadliest.

Why can’t things stay the way they were? I love my old job. Supergluing ghosts back together and solving their issues is its own reward. Not to mention, I’m seriously good at it. Although, I must say, I’m ridiculously excited for the new Death Counselor’s arrival in nine months...

Adding to my problems, there are four new angels in town who are riding my butt and judging every move I make. Literally. Who knew destroying one Immortal could cause me so much trouble? If I’m found guilty, I’ll be pushing up daisies.

Luckily, my nutty friends have my back and the Grim Reaper has my heart. What could possibly go wrong?

Nothing is impossible. I am living proof. Let’s just hope I live to prove it.

You Light Up My Midlife Crisis by Robyn Peterman
Book 5 f the Good to the Last Death series. Paranormal women’s fiction. Should be read in series order. Cliffhanger.
First chapter is a repeat of the last chapter of the previous book.
Daisy’s gifts or abilities continue to grow and again, she is being tested without clear rules or goals. But there is more on the line now since she is pregnant and she must keep her baby safe.

A little less overall humor but still plenty of witty sarcasm and antics by all the characters that surround Daisy. Family, friends, angels and lover, they all try to help but ultimately it’s up to Daisy. In this serial, Daisy learns the depth of forgiveness under a limit of time.
And as usual, it leads directly into the next challenge she will have to face as a cliffhanger to the next book.

🎧 Starts with last chapter of the prior book. Which I love since it may be awhile since the last book was read. I alternated between a paperback copy and an audiobook. I enjoy the paperback for clarity and depth while the audio is the most fun for the humor, sarcasm, and accents. The narrator is Jessica Almasy who does a fantastic job with voice variations and emotions. I prefer this author at a slightly faster than usual speed because of the southern accents and drawls that are amazing.

This was not it. It started out as a fun time a few Octobers back, but I think we now must part ways. The silly has just gotten plain dumb and ridiculously repetitive. The magic makes no sense. It's mass chaos all the time with the main players behaving the same way, doing the same things, and the worse offense...having stupid catch phrases. Over it.

This divine, original and oh so quirky tale is a great story of Daisy whose live is absolutey weird, zany and full of mayhem and madness.

Rereading book five just reminded me how completely addictive this series is. You Light Up My Midlife Crisis takes Daisy’s already ridiculous life and throws her straight into another round of supernatural nonsense, midlife mayhem, and emotional chaos — and she handles it all with wine, sarcasm, and the kind of resilience only a forty‑something woman with ghosts in her house can muster.

Daisy is once again juggling more than any sane person should. She’s taken on a new job with zero instructions, zero training, and zero chance it won’t blow up in her face. She misses her old gig — supergluing ghosts back together and solving their unfinished business — but she’s determined to step up for a friend, even if it might be the stupidest decision she’s ever made. And honestly? That’s why she’s so easy to love.

The stakes are higher this time. Four new angels have arrived, and they’re riding Daisy harder than her perimenopausal hot flashes. Destroying one Immortal apparently comes with consequences, and if she’s found guilty, she’ll be pushing up daisies for real. But Daisy’s never been one to back down, especially when she has her girlfriends, her dogs, her ghostly squatters, and the Grim Reaper himself in her corner.

Her relationship with Death continues to be the hottest, weirdest, most chaotic romance imaginable. He has her heart, she has his patience hanging by a thread, and together they’re trying to navigate a world where nothing stays simple for more than five minutes. Their chemistry is electric, their banter is sharp, and their devotion is the emotional anchor in all the madness.

The humour is on point — outrageous, snarky, and perfectly timed. Daisy’s inner monologue remains one of the funniest things in paranormal fiction. The supernatural world keeps expanding, the danger keeps escalating, and Daisy keeps proving that midlife isn’t a crisis — it’s a full‑time job with no benefits and no days off.

This book is fast, funny, heartfelt, and full of that signature Robyn Peterman charm. Daisy’s growth continues to shine, and watching her fight for her life, her friends, and her future is incredibly satisfying. She’s messy, she’s overwhelmed, she’s exhausted — and she’s still standing.

Robyn Peterman is exactly what I need to light up my life. Normally lighthearted, this one was just a bit heavier with the theme of forgiveness, even if that person is your enemy and has attempted to eff up your entire existence. It was still mostly funny even with the crazy angels and the jump back in time. I'm looking forward to the next one since this one was left with a big cliffhanger.

So funny!

Robyn's characters are hilarious! I love the way they are written and the story is fantastic. The hook at the end makes me sad I read so quickly and have to wait for the next book! Clarissa is a topic of continued heated conversation but the new baddy... baddies?... they are yet to earn my complete disgust. I love what happens in this story and can't wait for the next! Daisy's siblings are lucky Daisy handles things herself, Candy Vargo still makes me laugh so hard, Jennifer, Tim, Gram... I love them so much that I don't want to see the end of this series... possibly ever. Lol. So much humor, so much STORY! Love!

Well, I gotta say that I was wondering how in the world this story could continue once Daisy vanquished Clarissa and was made the Angel of Mercy. It kind of feels like the author is reaching for a storyline at this point. Why not just end it?

Zadkiel is a piece of work and I can’t understand why he’s making Daisy jump through so many hoops. She's more than willing to give him his old job back. Did he object as much when Clarissa was made the Angel of Mercy? How come he still wields so much power if he no longer holds the position of AoM?

Why do the four newer angels bow down before the Angel of Mercy and not Michael? For an Archangel, he sure doesn’t seem to wield much awe or influence over the other immortals. I hope Charlie is able to bring the wrath of whoever is really in charge down on Zadkiel’s head. What’s the point of giving the immortals powerful positions if they can’t seem to use them? Having both an arbitrator and a tribunal seems redundant.

If I recall correctly, Gideon tells Daisy that he and Clarissa had not needed to make many decisions regarding a soul’s destination over the centuries. What about being the Angel of Mercy causes the bearer to lose their mind?

I’m personally not charmed with Daisy’s baby being able to talk to/through her, especially since she’s adopted an immortal’s cryptic way of speaking. Why doesn’t Daisy name her after her grandmother, the woman who raised her? I can understand wanting to use her mother’s name but the ghostly nun doesn’t really resonate with me. Ah well, I’ve preordered book 6 so maybe some of these questions will be answered.

3.5 stars. Even though I’m beginning to find these books getting sillier and sillier (and not in a good way), there’s enough humor sprinkled throughout to keep me reading this series. My biggest complaint is that the reader has a few voices that are so screechy that it causes actual pain in my ears and is starting to trigger a migraine. I tried turning the volume down, but it’s not helping. OUCH! :-0

This was a great addition to the series. I actually enjoyed this one more that #4 in the series! There’s so much going on but the addition of the celestial siblings added fun twist to the series. Daisy is facing impending motherhood with trepidation and humor, along with trying to save herself, her loved ones and her job. This book focuses on the power of forgiveness!

Incredible, deep, funny, and then some

This is probably the best book of the series so far. Daisy's struggles, after the events that ended the previous episode, are far from over, but now, there is a little peanut on the line and the new Angel will do anything to make sure that, despite the appearance of a new and cunning foe, this little peanut gets to live.

Hilarious as all of Robyn Peterman's books, but also extremely deep and containing a lot of food for thought.

Again, if you haven't read this series yet, it is a must. And this fifth one is the best of it yet.

Oh my sweet Daisy....what a story!
Well we are back in Daisy's world full of ghosts, angels, immortals and now she is pregnant.
She has found herself at the end of the last book the Angel of Mercy because her old job the Counselor of Death will be filled in nine months give or take...yes Daisy and Gideon are expecting a little one.
But there is one glitch to the whole thing she has to prove herself worthy of the Angel of Mercy...
How do you ask? Well I'm not going to give that away....you will have to read the book.

I found Robyn Peterman last February when she and 12 other authors started the Paranormal Women's Fiction group on Facebook. I'm so glad that I did....Robyn's books are full of hilarity and great characters and I don't think I would have made it through this pandemic without her books. You know after you have read the first one that the rest will be just as good.
You Light Up My Midlife Crisis is full of humour and it even has a deeper life defining lesson. This book really made me think about forgiveness.

This book will have you in stitches, you may even cry (I know I did) and there is a life lesson to learn...
I loved this booked and each and every one before it....you won't want to put it down once you start reading the series! Go now and buy or borrow this series....you won't regret it!

Thank you to Robyn and Bookfunnel for allowing me to read an advanced digital copy.

Laugh out loud fun

Just when you thought life could not possibly get worse....at least I am sure that is what Daisy thought after she defeated the crazy Angel of Mercy. A break, a time out maybe....nope. I guess there is no rest for the wicked or shall we say bad angels.

Daisy is being tested again. More like punished. Seems she is always in trouble. Yet this time could really be the last. New surprises are on the horizon, some are excellent some not so great.

As with all of Robyn’s books, this one is full of snarky humor and unique characters. Twists and turns keep the stories interesting as well as her characters.

Robyn’s beautifully twisted imagination makes for excellent reads. Her worlds and characters are so creative and unique, they provide hours of entertainment.

This book ends on a oh no not again moment that will leave you wondering what twisted trip you will experience in the next read. I can’t wait to find out the next shenanigans Daisy and the gang get into next.

I was super excited and impatiently waiting for this book to come out. I was not disappointed!! Daisy has the angel of mercy job thrown at her, especially if she wants to save one of her dearest friends. We get to see Daisy grow even more as a person, or half angel as it were, and decide what is most important to her. Will she accept her new role? Will she lose everything she loves? Daisy now has precious cargo to consider in all her choices she makes. I absolutely love that Gideon always has her back and supports all her decisions whether he likes it or not. He and Daisy have grown into complete trust and it is beautiful to see unfold. Daisy grows and changes but now she's doing it without judgment and a whole lot of grace. It's beautiful. And of course this book had a lot of my favorite character Candy Vargo! I freaking adore her and I'm loving seeing her come into herself with a little help from gram. I can't wait for book 6!!!

After the epic battle at the end of book four, Daisy deserves a break...at the very least, she deserves a nap. Unfortunately, that isn't in the cards for our favorite death counselor. As one of her dearest friends life hangs in the balance, Daisy must make a life changing decision, with only moments to spare.

I really enjoyed You Light Up My Midlife Crisis, Daisy's group of friends and family, both immortal and human continues to grow. And as Daisy races the clock to complete the task she's been given, the group closes ranks to solve the riddle that will keep them all together.

I was completely invested - this was a book that I absolutely could not put down. And , with a new challenge laid out before her, I cannot wait to see what new adventures wait around the next corner. If anyone can beat the odds, it's Daisy - and she *always* comes out on top.

Wow! Just Wow!
I have been enjoying Robyn Peterman’s Good to the Last Death series, each book I have thoroughly enjoyed, but this one.....just wow! I feel like Robyn really stepped up her game on this one!
Daisy has destroyed Clarissa and become the Angel of Mercy. She has found out that a new Death Councilor will be taking her place, in about nine months. Now she has the power to return June’s soul to her body, but can she do it? And can she do it before it is to late? She also finds out she will be facing a Tribunal for destroying Clarissa. Can’t a girl get a break!

I laughed. I cried. I went “Whoa! I didn’t see that coming!” I couldn’t put it down!
The story just keeps getting better and better! A+ Robyn!

Rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents. Robyn's books are fantastic and her wittiness makes you want to see what goes on in her mind all the time...what fun would that be. Daisy is finding out things are not always what they seem. She loves her job at the Death Counselor and helping the ghosts around her but one ginormous deed that rid the world of pure evil has 4 nasty Angels reeking havoc on her life...and in turn of events making her the new Angel of Mercy...WTH!! Why can't she just be...apparently she didn't get the memo on that. With her Grim Reaper beau Gideon, Archangel Micheal...her pops, her cray cray friends, and family ghosts to help her along the way...there is nothing she can't do. But at what cost? Stupid riddles, evil angels, a creepy hourglass, a nun and not remembering what she says, Daisy is flummoxed on what she needs to do. Drama at its finest but it makes you LOL and dive headfirst into this witty story!! Another great book Robyn!!

Daisy faces even more tests in front of her bringing to the forefront true forgiveness and divine grace. This entertaining book has actually illustrated the best definition of divine grace I’ve ever read. I could feel the struggle emotionally. Passing this test not only affects Daisy but also the lives and futures of all lives that touch hers as well. Including one very precious blessing. I still find it so totally inspiring how this author manages to elevate a readers interest with each and every book in this series! Hands down an easy recommend! After finding Robyn Peterman last summer she has become one of my all time favorite authors. Her reads crack me up. They take paranormal elements, smart mouth humor and all the feels. This book is just another fine example. Daisy is a 40 year old widow who has been thrown into the paranormal a world and being the death Counsler. At the end of the last book she also
Became the Angel of Mercy. This book picks up at the end of the previous book. A psychotic angel of mercy who wants his job back is determined to set Daisy up to fail. His insane requirements keep Daisy hoping. Among the race to find the correct answers there is love, witty if not violent banter, intriguing gross facts and some personal growth from our characters. This book has all the feels and will make you laugh out loud! I love PFW genre and this book is perfect for it. Love it! Keep up the amazing work!

If you are into ghosts, superglue, and hijinks galore, you will want to grab this right now! And if you haven't read about Daisy, Gideon, and the crew yet, WHY NOT? This is a laugh- out-loud, crazy fun romp through life, death, and beyond!

Daisy is rocking being the Death Counselor...I mean, it's awesome, right? Supergluing ghosts back together and helping them cross over to the other side? But now she is forced to take on another job. A hard one. Oh, and she's preggers to boot! What could possibly go wrong...

Absolutely fabulous! I have read every book in the series so far. Each book is better than the last. I don't know how Robyn Peterman does it, but she delivers warm, funny, characters that you wish were your real life friends!
Daisy and the rest of the gang return to face even harder challenges. Can Daisy face her hardest challenge yet and overcome the obstacles thrown in her way by the original Angel of Mercy? Daisy must look deep within herself and learn true forgiveness before time runs out

My how Daisy’s life has changed recently! She got the hang of the Death Counselor gig, albeit with mega-ton quantities of super glue – but how is she supposed to deal with this new Angel of Mercy job? Especially when she only has a limited amount of time to figure out how to do it before time runs out. Like sands through the hourglass… LOL

This series continues to evolve and grow, just as the characters evolve and grow. Daisy is not going to let some donkey-toting jerk steal her happily ever after! I’m eagerly awaiting book six!

Time is of the essence

Time, or lack of it, seemed to be what our story revolved around. And we find out more about the previous angels of mercy who were neither merciful or angelic. Daisy was forced to take over that job in order to save June’s soul but then had to earn it after the fact....and time was in short supply to do so.
Not only does she befriend a mooning nun, she has to corral four inhumane angels and determine their fate. The story is fast and furious and so funny. Robyn is in her element in this series and each book gets better than the last.

If you are new to the Midlife series I recommend reading from the beginning. Another fun, hilarious, gross, and heart stopping read. We get some answers but as only Robyn can do there is surprising twist at the end. One my favorite things about Robyn Peterman is her ability to make you laugh until your crying and then she flips the script to all the feels and has you still crying. Brush up on your gross facts , sit back and get to know the ghost known as the Tasmanian Devil, and of course the hotness that is Gideon.

The Death Counselor has to take on a new job to save her friends.
She wants to stay in the job of Death Counselor. Helping the dead pass on to the next life. Taking care of their unfinished business is just her speed. However, the four angels in town who are Not exactly angels is making life difficult to say the least.
I'm still learning my new supernatural powers. Just found out I have a baby on the way. My husband is the Grim Reaper. My father is the arch angel, Michael. With a cast of characters from the crazy to the fun and all supernaturals...life couldn't get more difficult. But I love my family real and adopted. Time to save the day, again!
