In Volume 2 of the Underfoot, the Hamster Aquatic Mercenaries team up with the Hamster Airborne Paratroopers and the Hamster All-Terrain Mountaineers to find priceless Giants-That-Were artifacts and uncover Hashak's evil plan to take over the world.
This second volume has excellent artwork, just like the first. Team that with a great plotline and excellent characters and this is a fun, unique graphic novel aimed at a middle-grade audience. I really enjoyed it.
I would recommend this for young readers 7 and up.

In the continuation of the previous book, the HAM team joins HAP and they divide the teams, while one goes for the mushrooms that provide energy to the complex, others go to a meeting between gliders and stingers. Meanwhile, batteries and other things have been disappearing, are they missing, or is someone taking them?
Here I going to mention the problem to follow each character and team, because they are so many and apart of 2 or 3 (like Ruby), you keep mixing them , maybe using uniforms or vests or a name tag will fix that problem?
The action goes on non-stop, we already knew from the previous book that there was a kind of mind behind what was happening, and here we know him although this ends up creating more questions.

who points out one thing that all readers were aware : that the Giants are not those benevolent entities of the H.A.M. , HAP, and HAT legends, because they mammals, reptiles, insects, and birds are the products of genetic experiments at the most style of Planet of the Apes, and that worshiping human relics is pretty bizarre, but very post-apocalyptic movie.
But what were those humans thinking when creating animals with special abilities, like the psychic twins?
However, despite the possible confusion of names and teams, the characters are lovable, in their friendship, honor, and even somewhat adrenaline junkies?
The ending suggests that there will be a third book.

Thanks to NetGalley I was able to read the upcoming sequel of the lovely Underfoot series.
Into the Sun in the sequel to The Mighty Deep. It’s a great sequel in an very cute and exciting series, The Underfoot. I really enjoy this series and I have fallen in love with the characters. This review I have divided in pros and cons.
Pros
- This time I feel that you get to know the characters even more then in the first book. Even though there are new characters introduced to the story. We still follow the same characters from the first book and they continue to be our main characters. This book however compared t the first one, focusses it a lot more on the character development.
- The friendships is one of my favourite things in this series. They are so heart whelming and cute! Also in this book they are central to the story.
- The drawings are just as great as in the first book and really cute. I love how detailed they are and they really give all the characters their own independent look. This way they are really easy to recognize even though that some of them look alike.
- The story is more complex then the first one and we learn more about different clans of hamsters and their special abilities. The mission is a lot bigger and more difficult then in the first book and this leave less room for action and more room for plotting and figuring things out, before the action starts to happen. You really feel that this is a set up for more and the story progress a little slower then in the first book. Which I didn’t mind, because it gave us more time getting to know the characters and the different clans.
- This story is a lot less violent then the first one, but that also means that there are a lot less action scene.
Cons
- For me this was not perse a con. But it did make me like this one a little less then the first one. The first one has a very nice conclusion and can be read as an standalone. This book however is definitely not a standalone. It does revere to the first one, but not that heavy. It does start a new mission, which is not resolved in this book. The story is more complex and it feels like a set up for more books to follow, the epilogue really supports that idea and also the fact that the enemy is not defeated shows this series is not finished. I did not expect that since I can’t find any information that there will be a third book. I do think there will be, at least I certainly hope so!
I just don’t like it when things are not resolved.
I really love this sequel and I can’t wait to read the third instalment so I can get to know how it ends! Ruby and Mac better be safe!

Just when you thought you were getting a grip on the cast... a *third* troupe of hamsters drops into your lap. Too much! Slow down! It is helpful to have hamster bios throughout the issues to help better acquaint the reader with the cast, but it makes the cast feel more like trading cards instead of real characters. But I did enjoy finally getting out of the burrow and start seeing the world from a non-hamster point of view. Each faction has their own idea of what the hell happened to this planet. Are the humans dead? Are they returning? What year is it? Each issue leaves tantalizing articles and lab resuls about pandemics, experiments, asteroids, and all sorts of other likely red herrings to keep the speculation boiling.
There are some relationships that start to feel genuine in these issues. Some characters bond over shared love of, um, rifles. Others bond out of sworn duties to protect one another, as clans join forces to stay alive in this ever-worsening environment. Bald eagles, hornet drones, evil bass fish (lol), scheming... I want to say geccos?... it's a bit silly as to why some animals are inherently evil while others are good... right now it's an all-or-none heroes vs. villains, separated by race. I hope that changes soon, else it's going to get a bit boring. But right now, it's fun, mysterious, expansive, and heading in the right direction.

The adventure gets more real. The characters are developed quite well. Yet too snappy at times. But yes, the characters are chaotic outspoken and cunning.
Love the artwork, the colours and the art sequence.

my excitement from the vol1 book didnt stop or mellow down 1% when i get my hands on the 2nd book. and my hopes didnt prove me wrong
i was glad, glad would be understatement. i was ecstatic to start and end the vol2.
this volume, shed a whole lot of light to the world, their creation, and a lot of their myth or lore. the cliffhanger got explanation but the cliffhanger vol2 left us with is far greater.
some characters got a way lot of devolopement, the twins reminded me a lot of weasley twins from harry potter and i enjoyed as much scenes they had, which was not that lot, cause a lot, (when i say lot i mean predestination or dark series kinda lot) was happening, theres a high chance of any reader to get confused while reading this novel.
cause as they removed 1 character from vol 1 they added a whole of 15-16 new hamsters to the story, and other creatures are there too.
theres a point when you might get lost as in which hamster is in what mission with whom, and it will be a little too late when you figure all of them out
still i thoroughly enjoyed this novel to every extent and every little detail.
I did enjoy finally getting out of the burrow and start seeing the world from a non-hamster point of view. Each faction has their own idea of what the hell happened to this planet. Are the humans dead? Are they returning? What year is it? Each issue leaves tantalizing articles and lab results about pandemics (made me kinda worry about our this situation right now, but lets move on), experiments, asteroids, and all sorts of other likely red herrings to keep the speculation boiling.

The second volume of "The Underfoot" had a more engaging plot than the first volume, and I enjoyed it a lot more.
This time, both HAM and HAP are working together on a couple of missions when something goes wrong with all of those missions. That's when they find out more about what the reptiles are doing, and also that there is another group of hamsters, specialized in mountain climbing. So, the three groups have to band together to defeat Hashak, the reptiles's leader.
I'm going to be honest, I enjoyed the plot of this volume a lot more than the plot of the first one. It's clear now that the first was the set-up, and now is the real action. I also didn't feel like there was too much going on the page, like I felt before and, consequently, I liked the art more this time around.
As for the characters, Ruby is still my favourite and we have got some development on the HAM matriarch that made me warm up to her a little. Nonetheless, we are starting to get a lot of hamsters, and sometimes it's difficult to distinguish them from each other. They have some differences between each other, even when they're the same color and species, but when they're not in their usual attire I found it hard to distinguish them, and that confused me a few times - but I moved on because I was so interested in the plot.
Overall, I enjoyed this second volume more than the first one, and I'm very intrigued about what's going to happen next, so I will definitely continue on this series! I recommend it, and hope you pick up this graphic novel series too.

Druhé volume je rovnako dobré ako prvé, pribudnú nám nové skupiny geneticky modifikovaných škrečkov. Tempo tohto booku je také pomalšie, škrečky sa pripravujú na vojnu, niektoré z nich miznú bez stopy a ostatní zisťujú, prečo a ako. Na konci to začína byť akčnejšie. Strašne sa mi páči, ako je to detské a milučké, diverzita škrečkov na základe ktorej je fakt bezproblémové ich rozoznať aj keď stále pribúdajú noví a kresba ako taká. Za mňa super a dúfam, že sa čoskoro dočkám tretieho čísla. Netgalley občas milo prekvapí. Ľudia, ktorí majú radi tieto antropomorfné komiksy, tak majú teraz možnosť na Netgalley si prečítať obe čísla naraz. 4,5/5

I said it for the first book and I'll say it again, there are just so many characters, too many characters. In the first book I feel like the number was nearing too many but was still okay- you had enough time to dive into detail about them and let the reader connect personally with them. Over this time I couldn't remember who was with HAM or HAT or HAP, I could barely remember what each of their jobs was. There was just so much going on that it felt rushed and incomplete- this book either needed to be longer or broken up into two books (again, making it longer) because so many missions were going on at once that the details and the why behind them doing these missions kept getting lost behind the onslaught of characters. It was a good story overall and I like the direction its going, it just needs to be fleshed out more wit more time being spent going over details of each mission and team and character. With the addition of two more new teams in this book and the character out tripling from the first, it's going to be hard to engage readers if in the future more detail isn't spent on these things. Readers are going to and are getting overwhelmed. It will be better to take a slower approach with how much information is being presented.

'The Underfoot Vol. 2: Into the Sun' by Ben Fisher and Emily S. Whitten with art by Michelle L. Nguyen is a graphic novel that continues the adventures of post-apocalyptic hamsters doing daring deeds in the absence of humans.
The last volume had a successful mission to save the badgers from flooding. This time the forces of H.A.M. and H.A.P. are joined by H.A.T. to find missing supplies and missing team members. The threat of the "scales" and their reptilian leader Hashak is revealed and all the hamsters have to band together.
It's a decent enough read and younger readers would probably enjoy it more than I did. The art works but I'm not really a fan of it.

This addition upped the action, the stakes, and underlining mysteries. I didn't think I'd be so interested in a book where the main characters are animals, but I was wrong. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

I read The Underfoot Volume 1 and 2 back to back over a week and I really enjoyed both volumes very much. The story is very engaging and the characters are endearing.
Volume 2 picks up shortly after Volume 1. Ruby and Mac are my favorite characters in both volumes. You really see both characters grow more and more. They are both hero’s of H.A.M by the end of the story. You see so much growth in their confidence and their abilities. Ruby shows she’s not as timid as she was in Volume 1 and Mac shows she’s a lot smarter and braver than people give her credit for. You also learn about Macs family and who in H.A.M she’s related to...
I really like seeing the other pups from Ruby and Mac’s class take the next step and become hero’s as well. We see the twins help a lot in the final mission of the story. We also see the return of Beck who has matured a lot since Volume 1. Beck’s story arch is very touching. We get to see a young pup who tries very hard to right their mistakes from Volume 1.
Volume 2 also shows us more about what happened to the Giants-That-Were. We get to learn more about their fate and we get to see more signs of a dystopian world that is outside the world of fur, scale, and wings.
This volume also introduces us to the diabolical new villains, the Scales. They are evil, slimey, manipulative and up to no good. They also have revenge on their minds which makes them very dangerous. The Scales and their allies the Stingers are both very powerful and dangerous.
I really enjoyed reading Volume 2. I highly recommend this book. If you read Volume 1, I’m sure you will want to read Volume 2.
Now I’m excitedly waiting for Volume 3!

This volume also introduces us to the diabolical new villains, the Scales. They are evil, slimey, manipulative and up to no good. They also have revenge on their minds which makes them very dangerous. The Scales and their allies the Stingers are both very powerful and dangerous.
I really enjoyed reading Volume 2. I highly recommend this book. If you read Volume 1, I’m sure you will want to read Volume 2.
Now I’m excitedly waiting for Volume 3!

What if hamsters were the lead commandos of the world?
The Underfoot Vol. 2 by Ben Fisher and Emily Whitten is really of the same quality as the first installment. A lot of action, emotional rollercoasters, and best of all: character growth. I think I liked this second volume better than the first and only regret that the main plot is still unresolved and leaves us on a big cliffhanger.
In this volume it is the genetically incensed insects that make their appearance and they are obviously plotting something very big with the “scales” ie the reptiles. Our various group of hamsters have to join forces for a bigger than ever operation to save not only their colony, but possibly all life outside of the insect island.
The plot moves fast, with no lagging in the pace, lots of jumps between various involved parties trying to solve the big, very big problem, and always little jolts along the way keeping us on our toes: are they going to make it! Is the pup going to save him? Are the hummingbirds going to arrive on time? Are the adults going to understand what the younger set is saying?... you get the idea. This story jumps from multiple characters and you have to keep on your toes in case you’re not used to that type of quick storytelling. It is well done, especially with the human science inserts discreetly explaining what people did before they disappeared and why such and such creature ends up having a specific technology.
I liked that the humans are almost worshiped like gods, and their reason for disappearing is mysterious. It really makes for an interesting thread to follow and I do hope that the comic will deliver a good explanation. A solid comic for teens.

Everyone's favorite superintelligent hamsters are back in The Underfoot Vol 2: Into the Sun and uh I forgot everything that happened in the first book so this was a somewhat confusing read. While I definitely couldn't remember exactly who everyone was, I eventually got the hang of the main plot, which focuses on Hashak, a reptile with an evil plan or something. But I still felt super lost a lot of the time, and I don't know if it was because I didn't re-read the first book first or I was reading too fast or there really was just too much going on and it wasn't clear who everyone was, what they were doing, and why they were doing it. Yet I continued to find the world Ben Fisher and Emily S. Whitten created so wonderfully charming, from the cute hamsterspeak that can sometimes take a second to decode to the running gags about hamster team acronyms. And even though it's a hamster-centric story, I love the variety of intelligent animals roaming free in this post-apocalyptic world without humans, and the files and e-mails at the end of each chapter provide a chilling reminder of how it came to be. Michelle Nguyen's art is vibrant and colorful, giving these creatures very expressive faces. I enjoyed returning to this world, but WHAT THE FUCK THAT ENDING WHEN IS THE THIRD BOOK COMING OUT.

The hamsters are back, and they are again amazing, entertaining and lots of fun. The world for the H.A.M. members has changed after a dramatic loss in the first book, but the survival of the colony is still priority. And with the introduction of new colonies and Hamster groups the universe got even bigger and we as readers get even more exciting stories combined. And the teams working together was never more important. Only united they can stop a common enemy to ensure the survival of their kind.
It is like coming home and re-join with beloved characters we fell in love with during the last adventures in the first book. They are so adorable, and the characters are so unique. Lots of friendship again, love and so much bravery – these hamsters are just the best. The story is again entertaining and the illustrations just so good, providing lots of details and emotions. In the second book there are as well even more hamster characters and other animals with great characterisation and story line. One can only admire the fantasy with which the authors have breathed life into this world after the giants disappeared and left modified hamsters and everything else behind. Another fun entertaining comic with characters, who will steel your heart.

This was a fun, gripping graphic novel that left me wanting to know more. I really like the art style and that inbetween each chapters there are character profiles and contact from the 'giants' days among each other.
In this volume, the Hamster Aquatic Mercenaries (HAM) have joined up with the Hamster Airborne Paratroopers (HAP) to support each other in solving the mystery of missing priceless Giants-That-Were artifacts and hamsters going missing too. Then a new hamster colony arrives; the Hamster All-terrain Mountaineers (HAM) who bring further clues about Hashak, the leader of the scales who is behind this mystery. Together the colonies work as a group to succeed in the most dangerous mission they have ever faced.
This finishes with a massive cliffhanger that I left me wanting more! I may not be the intended audience for this but I had a lot of fun reading it and I will be keeping my eye out for future volumes.

I received an eARC of this book from Oni Press. This has not affected my honest review.
I think the second volume of The Underfoot is definitely stronger than the first! The art style is just as wonderful as the first volume, but this one felt faster paced because we already knew the worldbuilding. I still love the characters, they're super endearing, and I adore the premise. I think the plot of this one was a little more coherent and it was a lot of fun to read. I'm looking forward to reading more, particularly as I wanna know what the scales are up to!
My only critique really is that there is a LOT of characters. A lot of a lot, and seemingly more coming every volume. I think that the individuality is there, but because there are so many, they get lost to the crowd a bit. I'd love more of a focus on the smaller groups, so I could get to know each character better. Despite that, though, I really did enjoy this and will keep an eye out for the next volume.

In volume two, we really get to know the hamsters better! This was a great point for me as I did feel like volume one was a little rushed. There was more character development in this volume, and I felt more connected with the hamsters and their story.
As I did with the first volume, I loved the artwork in this graphic novel! I’m in love with the different breeds of hamsters, and they are all so unique and easy to fall in love with.

"The Underfoot Vol. 2" was a pretty good sequel to the first book of this series. In my opinion, this sequel was better than the first one. It was more action-packed, the plot moved a little quicker, and I understood who-was who a little better than the first one. However, the book was still slow and just did not interest me and keep me wanting to continue reading. I think this story overall was just not for me, but other readers will most likely enjoy this story. Overall, this was an average series for me and did not stand out to me as one of my favorites, but I still liked some elements. I would overall rate this a 3 of 5 stars after much thought. Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this book.

Set in a world where humans are gone we follow genetically mutated hamsters who run a rescue team for all the other animals in the area.
Overall this was an okay comic. The art style was different to the cutesy style that is so popular at the moment. I felt that there were too many characters to follow which affected my overall enjoyment but I did like that between chapters you got a bio for the characters.

Wow! I enjoyed Underfoot volume 2 way more than volume one. I was invested in the characters, and vibed more with the plot.
We have our favorite characters from volume 1 ganging up with some more hamster groups to take on a mutual enemy that may be out to destroy the world!
The school setting from the last volume was not present in this story, which I really enjoyed. I didn’t like the bickering between the young hamsters over who would join H.A.M. In this story every hamster has a part to play…. No need for bickering.
I think if you enjoyed volume 1, you’ll definitely like this graphic novel! It was a solid 3.5 stars for me!

I really enjoyed the ability to read this volume of the graphic novel directly after finishing volume one, and am now eagerly awaiting volume three. The structure of each book in this series has me super interested in the very beginning and the last ten pages and feeling very meh in the middle once the big cliffhanger ending of the previous book was solved, and my interest was only piqued again by the set up of the newest mystery and the introduction of yet another hamster sect that goes by H.A.M. It is a solidly done book, a bit less gory than volume one, but I did find my attention wandering during the main plot of the book.

Volume 2 was just as enjoyable as volume 1, although this one did not make me tear up at the end. I love the cliff hanger at the end of this volume. I don't want to give anything away but whaaaat!?! Those last two transmissions leave so many unanswered questions.

2,5/5. More or less the same comment I had with the first one. Not bad, a bit too light hearted for me, but the humor is good enough, the animals characters will be a hit for a lot of readers, especially young ones I think. Not bad in anyway, just a bit easy going for me, but at the same time I was curious enough to pick the sequel so...

Ruby and the rest of the HAM gang Matriach and all were at it once again saving the day. These hampster covert soldiers were en route on another adventure, which was even more dangerous than before. Their adventures are action-packed and filled with excitement. This adventure was as great or even greater than the first.

An ingenius use of fur and scales to illustrate the battles that are faced everyday by most of us. The group of middle aged children I read these with were impressed enough with the characters to launch their own debates on what the books accomplished. That's the best compliment a writer could have.....their efforts influenced the thinking of their target audience.
