Mya Blackmon was a respectable psychiatrist and the only thing she loved more than ballet, were her patients. Being sheltered all of her life she found herself lonely a lot making her devote all of her time to work. One patient became close to her heart and when she passed away, she trusted Mya with her most prized possession. Now having someone else to care for, Mya finds herself on a new path with none other than the infamous Brandon Reeves. Brandon "Retro" Reeves came back for one reason only and that was to help his best friend find his little sister. Making that decision to show his face again after faking his death was hard but the surprises that were waiting for him were bigger than he could have imagined. Two people raised on different sides of the track now have one thing in common. Are they willing to come together and risk everything that they have ever known, or will life force them to see that some people are better off left buried?
Every time I think I've read all of M. Monique's catalog (with the exception of The Bridge), there's always one more that shows up on my suggestion list on Amazon. That is how I stumbled up on this one. Since I had been reading some "Christian Romances," I wanted to take a break from them and ruffle some feathers to liven up my reading. I know I can always count on this author for some drama, a little gůn play, crazy betrayal, and plot twists stories. Dr. Blackmon, a closeted freak if you ask me, came off as the quiet girl who is trying to step into some new life changing responsibilities. Brandon, who has also been MIA the past couple of years, is also adjusting to some major changes and events in more ways than one that was thrown his way, too. It would not have been an M. Monique's book if we didn't have some sort of betrayal and backstabbing. In the beginning, I was convinced Whitney wanted to have sex with Mya, I just knew she was in love with her cause there was no other explanation for her behavior. Overall, I enjoyed this book. It's very M. Monique-esque 4.4⭐️
4.8 Brandon & Mya , these two was really enjoyable to read , I love how Brandon took care of Mya from day 1 & how they both was so good with Reese , no question she was their baby!!! The 3 of them just beautiful .
I knew retro was calm but don’t play with him. & how he stand on business . He go from 1 to 100 real quick so sexy!!!
India & Shane I liked them Right away! They love startup was everything , And I love how India and Mya storyline unfolded and India was always on go!
I knew Whit was a jealous bf cause no way!!! Like girl !!!!
No spoilers this time. You know how M Monique coming and she’s not going to disappoint .
I wouldn’t mind a story about ABE! cause I just knowww!!!!!
ILYON appearance gets me every-time ! 🥰 the mention of shadow city I know he’s not to far behind . No matter the line!
LYFE & King . I love when the characters have pets , especially dogs!
I absolutely loved Mya and Retro’s story!! M. Monique know she be writing some crazy @$$ characters!! I mean CERTIFIED!!! I knew Whitney was on BS! I loved reading about Mya, Retro and Reese! Their little family was too cute and I’m glad Retro got a second chance at life and love! Champ and Nitalia are a whole mess per usual and I loved Shane and India in the book as well! I hate that I’m at the last book of the series!! I don’t want to say goodbye to these men 😭😭
A different storyline, a psychiatrist and a man from the dead comes together to raise a baby. I was so not expecting that twist but it was a good read for me.
Retro was that dude!! I wanted him and Mya together in the worst way. Their chemistry was intense. Even though they didn’t formally start their relationship until much later in the book it was clear that they belonged to each other.
This book had some unexpected twists that added some drama for sure. Good read!
This was really good. A solid 3.5, it just could have used a bit more editing. "Costed" was used a lot instead of cost and stares was used instead of stairs.
I'm guessing this was a result of a quick spell check, but the story itself was enjoyable.
Y’all thought Retro was dead, huh? Yeah, me too. I was in full mourning—black bonnet, ugly cry, ready to pour out a little liquor. But THEN… BOOM. Brandon “Retro” Reeves came strutting back into the picture like he ain’t just fake his death and take my heart with him. ☠️➡️❤️🔥
He’s still fine. Still dangerous. And now? He’s a surprise co-parent with a whole psychiatrist. YES, a literal doctor. Mya is soft, sweet, focused, and absolutely not ready for the hurricane of hood energy Retro brings. And that’s what makes it soooo good. She’s ballet and he’s bullets, baby. 🩰🔫 And somehow?? IT WORKS.
Retro and Mya had no business falling for each other. But when fate drops a baby girl in both their laps and says “good luck,” you already KNOW it’s about to be chaotic and romantic AF. 👶🏾🍼💥
Let’s break it down: • That slow burn? Delicious. ⏳🔥 • The bickering that lowkey sounds like foreplay? Top tier. 👀👄 • The way Retro protects what’s his like a savage gentleman? YES PLEASE. 🛡️❤️🔥 • And let’s not forget: he fine, tatted, speaks French, and got them Louisiana vowels? “Kay bébé…” — I almost passed out. 😮💨🥖⚜️
Retro officially joins my Reverse Harem of Hood Husbands™ alongside Dallas and Houston McQueen. I ain’t cheating—I’m COLLECTING. 💍💍💍😂😝
This book gave us drama, love, loss, AND that grown man “I’ll risk it all for you” energy. And Retro?? He’s not just falling—he’s folding like a fresh white tee when it comes to Mya. 😩🫶🏾🧼🫧
5 stars. 1 ghosted past. 2 traumatized guardians. 1 baby that brought them all together. Infinite chances for me to scream “just kiss already!!”

Once again this was a good read. I couldn’t put it down. I’m so freaking happy to read about Retro. Him and Mya were so good together and also the best parents to Reese. I knew I didn’t like Whitney for a reason 😒 I’m so glad Mya Met India. Don’t want to give too much away. Glad I read about all these beautiful couples and can’t wait to see what’s next.
This book was great. Well written and very informative. I laughed and cried also. But if I found out my best friend was psychotic I wouldn’t know what to do. That’s crazy how Whitney put together a whole story in her head just to turn on Mya. And still at the end of the day she still ended up losing.
Okkk! Falling For His Savage Ways was good from the beginning until the end. Retro was that dude. He had different layers to him and Mya was the right one for the job to peel through them. What is meant to be will be and that was their story. Good read!
This was a great love story!!!! In these reviews I want to say so much, but I feel like I’m giving too much away. Just read the book. The craziness of it will keep you engaged!!!!
I love M Monique's writing style, I enjoyed this story from the first page to the last. The connection between Mya and India was very interesting. Whitney was a weak a$$ hater who wouldn't take responsibility for the problems in her life. It was easy to blame Mya because that underlying envy was always there. Good job, patiently waiting for your next book.
When I saw that Retro had a book I was wondering how M. Monique was going to resurrect him from the dead, which she did a pretty good job at! I liked the connection retro had to Bre from the previous book! The progression of Retro and Maya’s relationship was slow but necessary. Like M. Monique other books I enjoyed the mystery in this book as well!
This has overall been a really even series. Eight books in the author has been consistent with her blend of dark romance bad boy heroes who are soft only for their loved ones and kickbutt heroines who are independent and filled with agency but are equally lover girls at heart. There is just enough action and suspense that you’re not bored but these are mainly low angst, easy soothing reads because of how open the characters are to love and be loved.
This is the same with Retro’s book which I was very excited to read with him literally just co Ing back from the dead. This book carries over from the previous book (Houston and Kaliyah) following up with what happens to Bre’s daughter when Mya and Retro become her guardians. Compared to the other books in the series, this was a slow burn with romantic intentions between Retro and Mya stated early but both characters deciding to take things slow. I really liked them together despite Mya’s misgivings that she may more or less have stolen Bre’s life.
The conflict with Whitney (Mya’s ex-BFF) was a little crazy and I was side-eyeing Mya for never before having noticed anything was off about that friendship even when her standoffish parents did. I could also have done with a smidge more character development. This author always drops juicy nuggets about her characters but doesn’t pursue them, for example the resolution with Mya’s parents. I am looking forward to the next book and as the series wraps up, all in all I’ve been really enjoying it.
I was glad that Retro got a story, as I was so curious to learn more about him. However, I was a bit disappointed that more attention wasn't made when he reconnected with his mother and sister. The last story as well as this one, spoke of how his mother would react, and I really wanted to experience that. Retro and Mya, seemed to be an odd couple at first glance, but they were perfect. Retro, was rugged, a savage and a gentleman, with a big, kind heart. Mya, although very smart, and a professional, had a bit of thug in her as well. 😁 The way they came together to take care of Reese was beautiful. I knew something wasn't right with Whitney, but damn who knew that she was bat ish crazy! I wish India could have laid hands on her, for causing all that mess! Surprising twist with India and Mya! Guess Mya's parents had to step down off their high horse huh? Love how the crew will show up and out, when they get a call about one of their own. Hope we hear more from all these characters soon. Would love to see a story about Wanda and Abe. Good read! 👍👍👍
This book was different but not in a bad way. It was too much going on with the underlying story of how Bre left her mark. The focus point was taken off Mya and Retro for me because I was constantly waiting for the baby to be linked to Onyx again. The chemistry between this couple didn't hit for me like the other's. Whitney's husband coming at Retro publicly about his inability to afford the lifestyle they were seeing just rubbed me wrong. It was his chance to stand out, he missed an opportunity to shine. He was smart actually brilliant in the corporate world and could get down if need be yet throughout this entire book he took a back seat to Champ and made it seem like he's just a "worker" that's not ok for me when a black man is being belittled by another black man. May wanted him to fit in and that's why SHE spoke up for him!! I wanted to only give this story 3 stars for lack of but because this author delivers every single time I could lower the standards. I'm hoping going into the next book will knock this one out the park.
Maaaan I love Brandon Retro. He was so perfect for Mya and baby Reese! Retro really had a second chance of life based on what happened to his life five years ago. He “died” and came back to life. Don’t poke the bear because if you do you will see another side of Retro that is buried so deep you will not want those problems.
Mya was so cool and laid back. Her parents were so uppity with so much skeletons in their closet. Like they saying goes don’t be throwing stones at glass houses etc. The parents finally got some sense due to deep dark secret revelation.
I love India and Shane! They were good peeps.
This book of course had its own drama with envy, jealousy. Mya friend got off too easy though.
The moral of the story: Retro and Mya will need to make an important decision when baby Reese grows up to let her understand her life and don’t have a repeat of what happened to India happened to baby Reese. Transparency is the key to keep it solid.
Retro and Mya was so good together. I loved the way Retro protected his family and friends. I loved how Retro's mother didn't feel as if her son was dead. Ms. Ardette, didn't give up on her son. Mya's, parents was so out of touch that they couldn't be happy for their own child.I loved how Mya and India, were so close to say they didn't know about the other or weren't raised in the same house hold growing up as kids. Mya's friend Whitney, was a loose cannon, for her to be jealous and envious of her friend was crazy. I thought that Wanda was a lip weak for giving up on herself when everyone else was willing to fight for her to get out of that prison. I was glad that Abe, wasn't gonna take no for an answer. M. Monique. I love how you have your characters corresponding from one book to another. Love it!!!
These men just keep getting better and better. Sooo happy to see Retro in person👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💃🏽💃🏽🥳🔥🔥. Yes. He was such a great guy, coming out of hiding to first help find KayKay and now to be a father to Reese. Thanks Bri, may she Rest In Peace🙏🏽. The love him and Mya had for Reese and then each other..awesome to watch. Retro was no slouch. He wasn’t savage until you came for his family. He’s a protector. So glad hater Whitney got her just deserts😜😜👏🏽👏🏽. Handle that psycho Whitney😉🤣🤣🤦🏽♀️. Anyway, another 🔥🔥 book with another HEA. The introduction of India and Shaun..priceless. Love this author’s work. Will continue to read whatever she puts out. I recommend this book. Enjoy😉👏🏽👏🏽💃🏽💃🏽🔥🔥
Retro had a few childhood memories he’d like to forget and they all involved a man he never wanted to be like - his father. He knew that the dark side of him when let lose was a beast. He was always known to be low key and level headed, but when pushed, the savage comes out. Now he has to be a father himself.
Mya was taking on a huge responsibility. Her friend took her own life and left the care of her daughter to her. Mya is a single psychiatrist who knows nothing about raising a child. With an upbringing like hers that was strict, proper, and restrictive she just wants to parent the right way.
These two come together and its a slow burn that leads to fire! They find that they bring out the best and the savage in each other.
Wow, this was my first time reading a book written by M. Monique. I’m going to look into reading more books from her catalog. As an avid reader, it’s been a minute since I’ve read a book that I enjoyed from the beginning to the end. Finally, a lead male character that was a perfect balance of savage/gentleman. Finally, a lead male character that didn’t cheat. Finally, a couple, ready to accept love without issues. Finally, a lead female character who wasn’t hood/ghetto. Finally, a solid plot with a twist. There were quite a few editing issues where the wrong character’s name was used but other than that it was a good book.
This was so nice, so good, so down to earth and so real. Mya and Retro were just so perfect without the usual baby mama drama, or the rival gangs or street stuff. This was more realistic with the BFF jealousy, a mental client gone awol and the full commitment of just pursuing love. The only thing was that although I was happy for India to find closure and very disappointed in the parents, I felt that the overlook of how Mya was raised and the dilemma she endured was just brushed to the side without talking about it but had enough time to focus on India. That was unfair!
Man I am still in love with this author. The more I read her stories the better they get. Retro is like the other male characters but he is so different. His savage is so smooth but you can't let it fool you. He loves himself some Mya and always has since they first met and honestly her as well. Than add Reese to them and I just love them. I love how the guys and their women are coming ten times over and have each others back no matter what. Of course we gotta shout out The Smith's they are funny and definitely make situations that more crazy. Ok I see Ms. Wanda!!!!
This book was good from beginning to end. I so love these characters and how they're all intertwined together. They all have such a unbreakable bond and loyal to each other and those they love. I'm so glad that Retro was reunited to his love ones. Through tragedy him and Myra were brought together. And, I loved their relationship and how it blossomed. It was some twist and turns that made it interesting and I couldn't put it down. So glad with the way everything turned out. Great job M. Monique.
I’m so happy M. Monique gave us Retro back in Houston & Kay's story and gave us his story as well. I’m happy he found his happy ending with his Mya and Daughter. In this story, you will get drama, jealousy, envy, and happiness. Whitney got what she deserves. For her to be Envy and Jealous of her best friend is crazy. Whitney ruined her marriage, and for her to blame her best friend Is ridiculous. Mya was made for Retro. Thank you for giving us Retro back Monique!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺 ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Mya and Brandon were a team before they were a couple, coming together to raised Reese. Brandon had some scars figuratively and literally, but Mya healed his heart and soul. Mya's best fiend Whitney was looney! Mya parents were disrespectful on the beginning but turned that around. I'm good they did the right thing on the end. I is wish Shane and India had their own story bit we did get a got enough glimpse into them and their relationship. It's always good to see the other characters from other books.
Man Retro and Mya are the perfect balance for each other, he is rough and a savage while Mya is soft but can get nasty if need be. I like how they genuinely built a friendship due to them being Reese adaptive parents. So the connection was already there just waiting for a spark. Now that Whitney really let jealousy and envy cause her to make dumb decisions that not only cost her a friendship but also her marriage and freedom. Overall this was a great page turner.
Man M. Monique atp I'm just glad you kept this series going...,With each book it's gets even better omg the love, trust, and compassion that comes off these pages really warm my heart.. Not to mention it's coupled with REAL LIFE situations that could happen or that have happened... I Loved this Book soooo much man it was a shocker for sure from the 1st chapter to the last chapter...can't give many details because it would spoil the book before this one...but just know it it DEFINITELY WORTH THE READ!!!!
