Fun and at times, difficult to see the big picture, but worth the effort.
The story was at some times coherent and others chaotic. This is sometimes good when the author ties it with characters, atmosphere, and plausibility. This story was just okay with that. Nevertheless, it is a fun read. It tested the limits of my ability to see the bigger picture, though at times the action made suspending plausibility okay with me. I would recommend this story to anyone with lots of time to read and a passion for Science Fiction.
This boxset brings together the complete Deep Black series. An epic tale with superb characters and great story lines. Each story builds steadily to an amazing climax. Following the adventures of Drummond Bayne and the crew of the Royal Blue as they fight pirates lead by the mysterious Parallax. But there is a greater threat to the Universe which could lead to the end of mankind. What follows is a rollercoaster of twists and turns Definitely recommend this series
So, an interesting delve into a future which is quite realistic. No imaginary out of world creatures or people with fantastic powers. The story line is multi threaded which keeps it very interesting, multiple characters with diverse parts add to the intrigue. The wordcrafting, spelling and grammar is very good, making for easy reading - which I do on a 7" tablet with the Kindle app.
All in all, a good series, each book is standalone, but should be read in sequence to maintain the threads.
I've read quite a bit since 1955 , and James D. Victor continues to surprise me with his brilliant imagination, his grasp of language and most of all his humanity. This series is a testament to his ability to inspire and entertain a growing group of readers.
I enjoyed reading this series of books. It provided some interesting perspective on the origins of the universe. The glamour of piracy vs the straight laced Navy was pure fun. The world
Building skill of the author along with the more than adequate character development was well done. As space operas go this one ranks highly. Enjoy!
When I got this book, I was expecting something like David Drakeor David Weber writes. Sadly, it was nothing of the sort. If you're looking for good old fashioned space opera, this might fit the bill if you have a relatively loose definition of space opera, but it's more along the lines of super heroes battling it out for the ultimate good vs. evil battle royale, and that just isn't my thing.
Well I've read a lot of your books but this series got to me. I have mental health issues and this book escalated some of them. I found it very disturbing as nearly every character was around the Begs in one way or another. Sorry James I didn't like this series
The story flows very well and easy to read. The characters are great and they mix. The author is brilliant and kept me on my toes the whole way through. I recommend this to any sci-fi fan.
This set was an engrossing reading event, it started slow but interesting and gained a steady crescendo to a spectacular conclusion that only the vivid mind of the author could put to words that paint a picture in the mind of the reader !
Grand view of a universe fighting choas and order equally to stay centered when faced with humans the most disruptive self centered foce in the cosmos creation doesn't stand a chance.
The story was very well presented it kept you reading for the conclusion of the series. I would recommend the series to all readers. The 5 stars were given as the I enjoyed the story.
This series was different from a lot of space operas. There was a lot of twists and turns which easily held my attention throughout all nine volumes. The end of the last volume had a really unexpected twist. I definitely recommend this read.
Thanks for a really amazing story. The series was well put together , well written and held my interest right thru the last word. A well deserved 5 stars .
