Ann: Irresistible Spirit

Rate this book
A deeply moving tale of love, sex, motherhood, separation, ghosts of the past, and friendship. Spanning fifty years from the 1960s to modern times, the narrative records the development of a relationship between two young people who are neighbours on the back streets of Harehills in Leeds. Their love blossoms in passionate scenes of teenage lust, develops during marriage and parenthood, before a hapless decision leads to their separation. Ultimately the relationship becomes an unbreakable friendship that the couple's children find difficult to understand. Perhaps it is only with story's conclusion that the family comprehend what a truly unique bond survives through so many troubled circumstances. The story is loosely based on real life events and is another gripping read from the author of A Cross Of Crocuses.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that I found relatable on so many levels. There is an element of just about every emotion possible from love and lust to friendship and sadness. The story follows the lives of two lovers which I felt developed perfectly. Powerful descriptions of raw emotion that touches the soul. A huge praise to Ken Ross for his extraordinary writing that expresses these emotions and life events in a way that connects with the readers so well. For many authors writing about such deep feelings often become repetitive, but somehow Ken Ross managed to write these events in a way that made you feel as if it was the first time you had read it.

This was a very personal journal\diary of two people's lifetime and how these mere people touched so many other lives. It was written on a deep level and once you 'meet these 2, can't get enough of them! The realistic way the story is told grabs your feelings right into their lives.
I truly enjoyed this book, finding times I could relate to actions or feelings portrayed. It started slowly, but I'm glad I didn't abandon reading it.

Got inside my Soul

Gotta hand it to Ken Ross: eloquent capture of streams of consciousness in the protagonist's mind. Reached deep into me. Great book!

A beautifully happy to beautifully tear jerking read

I have never read a book with so much heart inside it. I'm actually balling my eyes out after reading this book. Wow. I know all of the places in this story and never would I have thought that Harehills could be romanticized and be the makings of such a magical story of young love. I don't want to spoil the story by giving away the end. 💔😭

The story that made me feel the emotions that I felt a long time ago. Thanks to the excellent style and author's interpretation, I read ANN: irresistible spirit with no breaks. I can say that it has swallowed me with its frankness and openness.
The story of two people in love who carried their feelings over a long time. Of course, as in any family, they had difficulties that had to be overcome. Due to these difficulties, relationships strengthened, and they became a little different people, probably more experienced and adults. However, sometimes it happens that even such a long relationship comes to the end, even when they have already children. As they say, not everything is forever and there is the end for everything.
I really liked how the author revealed the characters and developed them. It was very interesting to live with them their way of life. I experienced different emotions, but I enjoyed and I had indescribable feeling after I finished the book.

There are a few independent authors who have got it right when it comes to penning novels and Ken Ross is one of them. I have never been so caught up in a book, one of the main reasons for this is that “I get it,” I could understand what the characters were going through. I felt their pain and heartache, the attraction directed towards the opposite sex and the complications in friendships. The only aspect of the story I was unable to relate to was being a parent because I don’t have any children.

I really hope this author writes more books because his delivery was fantastic. There is nothing better than reading a book and absolutely loving it. I had the best weekend ever, under the duvet, eating pizza and reading this awesome book!

Fantastic read, anyone who is looking for a novel to get lost in, I highly recommend this one.

Ann: Irresistible Spirit is a story of true love. It's very descriptive, sometimes overly so.
The lack of proof reading and editing is evident in the many grammatical, punctuation and/or spelling errors (such as past when the correct word would be passed and using roll instead of role. And that negatively impacted my enjoyment and affected my rating. The constatnt 'shagging' tales becomes repetitive and I admit to skimming over many of those parts of the story. Being set in Great Britain is great, especially the Leeds area, because that's the home of my father's side of the family. However there's quite a few words, phrases, etc. that are unknown to folks outside of Great Britain and that make for a confusing read. My favorite parts of the book were the frequent 60's references and I loved how Mr. Ross worked song titles and lyrics into the dialogue.

Ann's journey through love, loss , and regaining life

This is the story of young lovers who grow closer together and begin a long sexual and sensual relationship. Over the years and the children, the relationship sours and the marriage ends. With some special relationships, even though the marriage has ended, the bond continues to develop and sometimes past ghost reappear. This is a well written story with developed and relateable characters. We all know the feeling of young love and can relate to the roller coaster of emotions. This story will pull you back to that time and make you feel those emotions all over. Well written and a good read. Check this one out folks. You won't be disappointed.

I received this book from a goodreads giveaway, overall I found it to be really overwritten using language that just wasn't needed to make the point. It was a slow read.

I liked flow of this story and the development of the characters. There were some typos that need to be fixed and the novel. I liked the fact the characters stick it out through thick and thin, and all those children! I also think it's a cautionary tale about making some poor choices being young and in love and how life is hard when you do. I didn't think of this story as much of a Romance, but a cautionary tale of how young love and the choices you make early in your life have consequences.
