Born to Fight : Lincoln and Trump

Rate this book
Abraham Lincoln and Donald Trump are two of a kind despite terms in office separated by 150-plus years. Both encountered a biased press and deeply divisive political environments after being elected with less than 50 percent of the popular vote. Each was viewed as an ill-equipped outlier and accompanied to office by first ladies ostracized by Washington's elite. Lincoln was known by those closest to him for his supreme self-confidence, inexhaustible ambition, mean streak, braggadocio, arrogance, vanity, and knack for thriving amid conflict. Ditto Trump. Born to Fight shows that Trump is better understood through the many parallels linking him to Lincoln.

Donald Trump servant - leader

I spent most of my voting life as a republican, though I didn't vote for Trump, I felt that all he had to do was surround himself with quality people. Then, as the Apprentice showed, he loved to say, "You're fired.". Getting his message out on Twitter ended up getting him banned because he texted lies and conspiracy theories as well as lies regarding the 2020 election.

Lincoln didn't have social media, he gave speeches by going town to town. At the height of the Civil War, he garnered 70% of the votes of soldiers. They believed in him.

There's a lot more I want to say about this book. The author stretched the comparison theory and it reads like fiction.

I'm wondering who will come up with the next big comparison literature. I'm betting that will be missclassified as non fiction as well.

"Born to Fight: Lincoln and Trump" by Gretchen Wollert is an excellently written book comparing the two presidents. It is written with a "right-wing" angle, and while I do not agree with party politics, I do agree that there is incontrovertible proof of the similarities between Trump and Lincoln.

Wollert gives plenty of citations to prove the various points of how the presidents are similar. In this regard, you cannot fault the book for proving the points that it set out to prove. This is why I gave it a 4-star review. Even if you don't like Trump, you cannot deny the similarities of the two. Opinions are subjective and Wollert wrote from her point perfectly. While I don't agree with the angle and agenda promotion, I agree with the similarities. A person is "like" someone doesn't mean they are the same person or that they did the same things, only that they had similar personality traits. Arguments could be made that Trump and Kennedy are a lot alike. You could even find a lot of commonalities between Trump and Bill Clinton. If you keep this in mind, it is well worth the read to see how much Trump and Lincoln had in common. Psychologically speaking, it also speaks to the kind of person who makes it into office and how similar they all are.

If you are a liberal, you might not like reading this, but if you can be objective and read the citations, then you can see how accurate Wollert is in her summation that Trump and Lincoln had a lot in common. No, you will not agree with how it is angled to make you feel Trump is a "Good" man, but it doesn't change the truthful parts of the book. Read it with an objective mind. If you're conservative, you will love this book, period. Either way, it's well worth a read.

Eminently readable study comparing Presidents Lincoln and Trump.

Wollert has written a compelling book, developing the premise that there are numerous parallels between two significant American presidents, Abraham Lincoln and Donald Trump. Reading the volume will progress quickly because of the author’s clear writing style.

Students will appreciate that the author meets the essentials of scholarly research by citing her sources in endnotes and providing an extensive bibliography.

The implications of the numerous comparisons between Presidents Lincoln and Trump are profound. The United States is in a cultural civil war which is still “cold.” Just like President Lincoln during the Civil War, one fears when hostilities would become “hot” between those who support President Trump’s efforts to restore essential American values (free speech and the first civil right to life) vs. those who oppose those values (cancel culture activists and abortionists).

Maybe Antifa domestic terrorists fired the first salvo in a new American civil war when they tried to destroy various communities in 2020. Cancel culture activists are continuing the assault by trying to censor everything from full-length books (Justice Clarence Thomas’ Created Equal) to films (Gone with the Wind) to children’s cartoons (Pepé Le Pew). Moreover, everybody knows that Biden wants to force Americans to pay for abortion with their tax dollars both here in the US and abroad.

Since Amazon collaborates with cancel culture activists to ban conservative and pro-life books, I recommend not buying this book on Amazon. (Why give your hard-earned dollars to a company that censors books?) Instead, buy this book directly from the publisher: Cedarfort.com.

Excellent, but only if you like Trump! If you don't like him you are not objective.
