Your Intuition Led You Here: Daily Rituals for Empowerment, Inner Knowing, and Magic

Rate this book
A practical beginner’s guide to magic that helps you set intentions, listen to your inner voice, and achieve radical change—from the owners of the destination boutique House of Intuition.

“A must-read if you are into crystals, energy, and rituals.”—PopSugar

Life can seem less than magical on a day-to-day basis. But look a little closer at the synchronicities and coincidences that pop up and you’ll catch a glimpse of greater powers at play.

Alex Naranjo and Marlene Vargas, the owners of the biggest metaphysical shop on the West Coast, want to let you in on a secret: that power is you. And if you acknowledge and tap into your innate power, the possibilities are endless.

Alex and Marlene are experts in using magic as a tool of self-care and empowerment. They have transformed their lives by tuning in to their intuition and intention—which is where all magic begins—and now they show you how to do the same. In Your Intuition Led You Here, they share thirty-two tried-and-true rituals and more guidance on setting your intention and manifesting your desires, including:

• creating an altar
• working with crystals and candles
• making offerings to ancestors and guides
• understanding the symbolism behind key magical ingredients
• designing your own rituals in response to your inner voice

Your intuition is a gift. In these pages, you will learn to hear it and respond to it with intention so that you can align your reality with your true self.

PROS:

The layout, design, colors, holographic cover, and aesthetic of this book were absolutely stunning inside and out. I love how it matches their stores!

Both of the authors' LGBTQ+ journeys were wonderful journeys of struggle to bliss.

I loved their personal stories of various metaphysical experiences showcasing subtle energy sensitivity.

From beginning to the present day, The House Of Intuition's continued growing success is an INSPIRATION! I enjoyed the insight of HOI operations, the stores are really beautiful, I googled them. So neat they have a huge altar in each store, where all of their products are made by employees and prayed upon before sale, always in accordance with guidance from Source, Angels, Ancestors, and Spirits Guides.
—I can't wait to see if Arizona gets a store eventually!

The index in the back of the book is a perfect reference section on herbs, crystals, colors, ritual correspondence, and more! Very helpful!

I love how as business owners, the authors gravitated towards teaching people to do this work themselves instead of having so many "healers" do the work for people which initially, wasn't resulting in as much personal empowerment as they had hoped. Adjustments were necessary, this was well specified and highly interesting. Good hearts here.

Great tips on not trying everything at once and describes wonderfully, why focused intent is important.

I liked these writers, they write well, and their personal stories were really interesting, with lots of heart, emotion, and triumphant... the daily rituals are where this title lacked for me, unfortunately. This shouldn't discourage you if it appeals to your intuitive self!

CONS:

While I enjoyed parts of this book very much, the cover led me to believe this would be packed full of recipes or about exercises on tapping into our personal intuition more.

The rituals section doesn't start until the back of the book, +100 pages later, and focuses mostly on working with candles + baths.

There was no indication of how or where to dispose of (food) offerings after a set time had passed. Only that one needed to do so after the time felt right, whether that be a few hours or days.

EVALUATION:

The authors were encouraged by many to write their first book. While I loved their personal stories; how to use intuition, various rituals, and personal empowerment parts felt like an afterthought, which the cover lead me to believe would be the MAIN focus. As a MEMOIR this shined above and beyond, truly, but that's not what this was claiming to be. If they were to write another book I'd be willing to check it out. Good people doing good here.

DISCLAIMER:
Much gratitude to the Goodreads Giveaway Program, where I won this gorgeous hardback copy, compliments of Penguin Random House. I was under no obligation to write a review, my honest opinion is given voluntarily.

The personal stories of the authors and founders of the House of Intuition are engaging and moving. The guidance and spells they offer seem thoughtful, helpful, and likely impactful. But I really struggled with the lack of recognition of the LONG and rich histories that they are pulling their magic from.

Their argument is that anyone can engage magic without being connected or studied in a specific tradition. But it is also clear that much of what they offer is pulled directly from particular spiritual systems. Without some recognition and respect for those traditions, this feels very appropriating and disrespectful. One overt example: when explaining the difference between a poppet and a “voodoo doll” they write that “voodoo dolls are generally used with mal-intent. These poppets are used for good rather than evil, for the health and healing of others and ourselves.” This is factually wrong, it is a disrespectful representation of Voudou and furthers the white supremacist ideas that Voudou and other traditions with roots in black, African, and Indigenous cultures/experiences are evil or bad. The spirit of this example is woven throughout the book, tainting it.

A fantastical journey into your own mind. This book inspires you to really listen to and trust yourself. I found it helped me get through a dark time in my life when I didn't trust very much.. it helped me get back in touch with my needs and desires and have the will to do something about it.

I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway.

Extremely readable-the book alternates between the story of Alex and Marlene and metaphysical teachings. The writing and storytelling are both much better than I expected. I breezed through half the book without even realizing how much I had read. Much of the book is devoted to metaphysical practices and objects that you can create. There is plenty of information to take you through the process.
As a librarian, I always recommend that people check books out from the library. While I would tell you to do that with this book, I think most people will end up buying this because there is so much you will want to experiment with. I'm thrilled to have this in print at my house so I can use it for reference when needed and possibly to make notes in about what I try.

Loved learning about new ways to enhance life through rituals, gemstones and so much more. I had never heard of HOI, until this book. I hope to visit one of the stores soon.

Editing could have been much better.

I've purchased items from HOI and received them as gifts for years, so I was very excited when I heard this book was going to come out. After reading this, I can only give 3 stars in large part due to the editing.

The first portion of the book really overemphasized that "you are the magic" and gives you permission to not rely heavily on tools or items but to recognize your own internal power. Fortunately the middle and later portions of the book do not continuously repeat this. Saying something twice for added emphasis is fine, but more than that makes me feel as a reader that the author assumes I'm either not paying attention or not very intelligent and must not be "getting it."

There were several punctuation and grammatical errors and, if those bother you, consider this a warning. The most irritating for me was the story about Ryan (who is an amazing person on their IG Live sessions) and the fact that they were using multiple parenthesis and left out an end parenthesis entirely. I feel like this is a very easy thing to fix in editing and not the authors' fault so much as an editor not paying attention. Similarly, a section in the book talking about connection with eagles mentions having an image or a feather on an altar. A more savvy editor might have reworded this or suggested using a different bird. While the authors likely meant any feather, it is illegal to possess an eagle feather unless you belong to a federally recognized tribe. This is a very special item to the First Nations and it would have been entirely appropriate as an editor to simply suggest a different type of bird be used by the authors as an example for that part of the book.

Lastly, there are several spells and rituals that mention disposing of jars or items into the ocean or into water, leaving at a cross roads, or disposing in the trash at a certain type of business or trade. While I commend the authors for giving permission to use our own intuition, I urge them to reconsider disposing of items in our waterways and oceans. We have significant issues with materials being a risk to wildlife and if these jars were to wash up with enough force (say upon a rock in a storm) to break, shards of glass pose a risk to humans and animals in that area. With the mass following that HOI has, the ethical considerations of spell and ritual disposal seemed a large oversight in this book. It could have been very easy to acknowledge this and address this from an editing and writing standpoint. It is disappointing the editor did not see a chance to reword the writing as "we dispose of our spell jars in this way, but recognize this may not feel right to you." Then provide either environmentally conscious disposal resources or suggestions.

My favorite section of this book was the personal stories of Alex and Marlene and commend them for the time and dedication it takes to writing a book. I would love to see more from them and will continue to follow HOI. While I was disappointed in this book, it won't stop me from reading other things they write. I wished I had read this book from the library rather than committing to buying it.

i wish the intro wasn’t as long as it was (~60 pages). while interesting to get to know the authors, it comes off as too much:( anyway, altho i didn’t agree w some of their beliefs, i was glad that they acknowledged & encouraged readers to take what resonates. some times, i feel as other authors in these types of introductory books, tend to make their beliefs seem like the only “right” way. was pleasantly surprised that these authors didn’t! was kinda bummed that the actual rituals section wasn’t until about 100 pages in. also, maybe it’s just me, but it felt, at times, like this was an ad about HOI, their business, which i’m so glad it’s doing great, but not something i was necessarily expecting or interested in. overall, this is a good book for beginners:)

There are some kernels of wisdom here but they are hidden in the authors' self-absorption. And the spells and potions all have ingredients you are not likely to have around the house so you'll have to shop at their store. Self-absorption and self-serving? No thanks.

Your Intuition Led You Here" is a thought-provoking book that promises to guide readers on a journey of self-empowerment and inner wisdom. Authored by Alex Naranjo and Marlene Vargas, this book is an exploration of intuition and its potential to transform our lives. While the book delves into intriguing concepts related to intuition and offers insightful perspectives, it falls short in delivering practical recipes, which leaves readers wanting more.

One of the main highlights of the book is its emphasis on the power of intuition as a guiding force in our lives. Naranjo and Vargas eloquently explain how intuition is an innate gift that can help us make empowered choices and lead a more fulfilling life. They delve into the nuances of intuition, its various forms, and provide anecdotes and examples that help readers relate to the concept on a personal level.

The authors also delve into the significance of daily rituals in harnessing intuition. They explore the idea of creating intentional practices that can enhance our connection with our inner knowing and align us with our true selves. These insights are eye-opening and inspire readers to explore their own daily rituals for self-empowerment.

However, the book falls short in delivering practical guidance and recipes. While the title of the book suggests that it offers "Daily Rituals," readers may expect to find concrete steps or actionable practices to follow. Unfortunately, the book lacks a variety of specific recipes or step-by-step instructions that readers can easily implement in their daily lives. Instead, it focuses more on abstract concepts and philosophical discussions, which may leave some readers craving for more practical guidance.

Despite these shortcomings, "Your Intuition Led You Here" is a compelling exploration of intuition and its potential to transform our lives. Naranjo and Vargas's writing style is engaging, and their insights are thought-provoking, encouraging readers to delve deeper into their inner selves. However, the lack of recipes and practical guidance may leave some readers longing for more actionable tools to apply in their daily lives.

The first 100 ish pages of this book is all about the journey of HOI. If you’re a fan of their work and products, this is an amazing in-depth look at how HOI was created. The trials and challenges that the owners faced and how incredibly strong and determined they truly are. I love learning about others practices and how they came to find magic so this part checks all the boxes!

Now, if you came to this book for the title - Daily Rituals for Empowerment, Inner Knowing and Magic you’ll find that page 90ish and onwards is where you want to be. The next 40 pages are great for baby witches and beginners as it goes over tools and practices in an easy to grasp way. It gives you clear instruction on how to perform rituals all while emphasizing that YOU are the magic here. I love that about this book because there are so many books that make magic feel inaccessible and scary, but Your Intuition Led You Here makes you feel welcome and at home.

The spells and rituals included range from super quick and simple to longer and *more* complex (while still keeping it quite easy and accessible). My favourite is when you get to the kind of Build-You-Own Ritual section where you really get to tap into your intuition and use the guides to create a Ritual that works for you - something I haven’t really seen before in a book of this nature.

A lot of times when people are starting their practice they feel intimidated and overwhelmed. Alex and Marlene make it easy, fascinating and not scary at all - which should be the goal here! Magic is for and within everyone!

Imagining the business success of "House of Intuition" is reality altering. Against all odds, partners, Alex Naranjo and Marlene Vargas built a storefront chain for the spiritual and healing seekers. Reading the origin story of lusty betrayal, overcoming fanatical religious terror , tarot card guidance and intending a new beginning, the detox spiritual center in Echo Park LA was born.

With a gentle spirit and bit of self-depreciation about her own unpreparedness for this journey, Naranjo describes how the universe brought the HOI success. "Intuition is not magic, but the results of it can be"(p.81). The spirit of HOI became to help people find their personal power, eschewing money for services or things that would directly help people.

Naranjo tells some wild antecodes, all with an abidding trust in the universe and it's goodness. Manifesting change and purification , in Naranjo's view, are aided by candles, crystals and Florida water. But ultimately the change will come from the user within.

As a reader, I really enjoyed the first half of the book. Simply put, it's an incredibly far out business story. It's easy to laugh or roll the eyes at the folk wisdoms and bathing rituals, but it's harder to dismiss their expansion and good will to their customers.

Of course the book is also a self-help book. Milage varies here for me. Initating a coconut cleanse to ward evil spirits from my home is not on my agenda. I certainly don't see myself creating purification sprays, purifying an alter with sage or chanting in group choruses. To each thier own of course.

As much as I enjoyed the personal accounts of the authors discovering their spirituality and utilizing their intuition (as a tool I feel is often undervalued or just not spoken enough about), I felt this book kept turning into an advertisement for their HOI store. There was definitely valuable information sprinkled throughout, especially to normalize spirituality and practices for people who tend to not be “witchy,” but they kept getting interrupted by product placements. I did initially believe there’d be much more on building or exploring one’s intuition, but yeah, ended up with a bunch of candle and bath spells instead (which I’ll admit wasn’t the most interesting to listen to via audiobook).

Love to hear how big of a community HOI clearly created! Hope the authors/owners of the shop keeps that part up! :)

⭐⭐⭐

"Your Intuition Led You Here" by Alex Naranjo and Marlene Vargas is a captivating exploration of intuition, personal growth, and spirituality. The authors skillfully blend personal stories with practical guidance, making it accessible and enriching for readers of all backgrounds.

What stands out most in this book is the authors' personal narratives, which add depth and authenticity to the subject matter. Their stories offer relatable examples of how intuition can be a guiding force in one's life.

Additionally, the book provides a valuable resource for beginners in the realm of spirituality. The sections about creating altars and working with crystals are particularly enlightening.

I loved the intro and the meet-n-greet with the two owners of House of Intuition. They are definitely two humans that I would love to meet in this lifetime. The rituals were a little complex for me and I have some differing opinions (of course, because I’m human) about some other details of the book. However, it was a good book and I would, and did, mark it up and flag pages in order to refer back to it in the future.

I loved hearing their individual journey to how they came together. I would love to get a hold of the physical book because the rest of the 40% of the book has rituals that can be used as guidance for beginners honing their spell casting craft. But please do your own research and divine with a guide/master/teacher about the technicals that this book doesn’t explain such as disposal, how long to leave perishables on your altar, etc. DON’T TRY ANYTHING YOU HAVEN’T RESEARCHED 1ST.

When I first began reading this book almost a year ago, I zipped through the first portion which focuses on the origin story of House of Intuition! I wasn’t ready to get into the spells and rituals right away, but now that I’ve worked on my spiritual journey, it made sense to learn from the creators of HOI, what felt intuitively right for them and how it worked. I don’t know if I will use these spells but I am motivated to continue to build my own rituals and to trust my intuition! ✨🔮✨

I have been practicing for a while but must say I did find some useful information in this book. I think this is definitely a good book for anyone who is just getting started or curious. I also think that old timers like myself can find something of interest in this book. I definitely recommend as a shelf staple.

Nothing really to learn here. Maybe my intuition led me to this book to realize that I am at a point in my life where I can no longer seem to gain knowledge from anyone other than myself. This book does tell you to trust yourself, but not in any practical or meaningful way, so maybe that was the message for me. There are a couple spells/rituals, but thats about it.

This book should be called: Witchcraft for people who are afraid of the term "witch."

This book was honestly a struggle for me to get through. A 60 page introduction with privileged "suffering" that, as a millennial, I could not even feel an ounce of sadness for ie "we had to sell multiple properties and pull our kid out of private school." Okay, my generation can't even afford one house.

And then they go out of their way to say that what they're doing isn't "witchy" because anyone can do it regardless of their religion - which is not only ignorant but also self-absorbed. Witchcraft is NOT a religion. You are literally doing witchcraft. You are not doing something unique or special. You are doing witchcraft, but are trying to market it to people who are afraid of the word "witch" due to ignorance.

So I guess if you're curious about magic, but hesitant to approach it because you are ignorant about witchcraft, I'd recommend this book as a gateway introduction.
