I learned yesterday that The Very Hungry Caterpillar is my son’s favorite book, so when I found this book for $6.99 at TJ Maxx today I knew it was a sign to grab it. It’s a cute sequel and good for kids who are also learning to count. Would say it’s good for 2+ and also the illustrations don’t miss! Overall, 4/5 stars ⭐️
I did not intend to start my year with children's books, but I have a large inventory of books I have not looked at yet. This was the second one I picked up randomly and read to my children. I recommend it. The Very Hungry Caterpillar eats breakfast is interactive with the kids using pictures, and questions to ask them. It is my daughter's go to book now, she likes to plan her fantasy breakfast while reading it.
A superb colorful counting book showcasing how cool breakfast is. I earned this book by participating in the feeding reading program of Kelloggs rewards. Pretty neat, you can get up to 10 books right now just by turning in receipts of kelloggs based products and redeem them for books for your kids.
(5☆ Would recommend & would read again) Great addition to the original children's classic. The pictures, tactile holes, and the counting in the book make it a great book for learning. Kids can use more than just their eyes & ears to learn when they are read this book, they can use their fingers too. Great book to teach food and counting.
Jack received this book from Dolly Parton. As usual, he was a big fan of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and its shenanigans. We read the book together this morning, and Jack loved pointed out all the numbers. I thought he would be more interested in the food, as he is slowly becoming a bit braver about trying new foods, but it was all about the numbers still.
I don't think Eric Carle actually wrote this. I think this is from the "Eric Carle World" company. The art is in his style and it does do a fun job of moving through different breakfast foods, but there's not a lot in terms of language here. I do like the page with the different toppings for your toast. They all look really yummy.
Not a worthy sequel to the classic, but inoffensive.
Not as good as the original, but this board book also has food items (with tactile holes) to count. It also introduces a surprising variety of breakfast foods and includes a question on each page to spur discussion: How do you like your eggs? What do you put on your toast? Etc.
Love Eric Carle's illustrations and love breakfast. So does my daughter. It is great to show her a different caterpillar story with different breakfast items that she could try. Enjoy the holes in each piece of food to show the caterpillar traveling through the food.

Who eats onions for breakfast, unless they're in an omelet or something? I like the humor, though. It makes fun of itself. I thought this was a great book for introducing all kinds of breakfasts, although I think they were mostly, if not all, American. I like that it labels each food.
This Eric Carle board book features the Hungry Caterpillar eating breakfast and it is combined with counting the various breakfast items. Also i the titles asks questions of the child about their favorites for breakfast.
I was skeptical of a book merely *based on* the art of Eric Carle, but this is very well done. I love the sensory element of counting dots on each spread, and the interactive questions provided are great to engage ages 3-5.
A very positive book. It's about what a very hungry caterpillar eats for breakfast. So, are presented a different types of food that the caterpillar likes to eat. The illustrations are beautiful, and the very hungry caterpillar too :). The book teaches children how to count numbers and read.
This book focuses on counting, teaching children how to count 1–10 through food (e.g. 6 different ways to cook eggs, 7 different toppings for toast, 9 different juicy fruits). It also includes questions to get children to count and talk about their favorite foods.
This book is a good book for ages 0 to Kindergartners when teaching them to count to 10. I enjoy the simple illustrations and how the kids can count the items together.
More foods are presented than even grown-ups could probably think of for shapes. This is fun and colorful! Not sure how to engage with the tactile holes.
Great artwork, fun concept of a beloved classic! My boyfriend’s nephew screamed with joy at the onion page (we love a good onion) during his bedtime read. Wonderful!
