If you want to understand Pākehā New Zealand from an ethnic perspective, this is the book to read.

Think he says something like 'looking to our multicultural past to understand our multicultural future' in the introduction.

Of course, omnicultural is the framework discussions need to be moving towards due to the Internet slowly democratising the world, but that's all in the future...
