Shana Frost lets us rejoin the dynamic crime solving duo of Callan and Aileen in When Eyes Don’t Lie! When her fellow innkeeper turns up dead, Aileen seeks out private investigator Callan to figure out who viciously killed her. Frost is always so brilliant at setting the atmosphere, turning the very setting into a character itself (something that feeds into the mystery so well)! I really loved getting to spend more time with Callan and Aileen as I love them both as characters and their dynamic. And as always, Frost hits you with some great twists! If you’re looking for a good mystery, set your magnifying glass on When Eyes Don’t Lie!

I read the first book in the series yesterday and love both characters, Aileen to see Drand Callan, and the gripping mystery I immediately purchased the next book. Now I'm on to book three. So glad I found this series, The Aileen and Callan murder Mysteries. I can't wait for Callan's past to be revealed

When Eyes Don't Lie, by Shana Frost, is an excellent murder mystery with subtle romance and plenty of intrigue. The story is difficult to put down as it takes the reader to scenes in two different towns in the highlands of Scotland. The two main characters, Aileen and Callan, are well developed and their risky adventures and light romance definitely keep the reader's attention. There are plenty of facts to sort through and several possible characters who could be the killer. They keep you guessing throughout the book with various theories on "who dunnit" as they partner up to investigate the murder of a young woman. The scenes and characters in this story are described in detail that gives the reader a sense of being a part of the story. This is a definite page-turner and one that should not be missed by avid mystery readers.

This book was received free and the above review is my honest opinion.

When Eyes Don’t Lie by Shana Frost is an absolutely wonderful follow up to When Murder Comes Home.

However, in When Eyes Don’t Lie, the author moves away from the cozy mystery vibe and into something darker! Just like the first book, this was just so hard to put down!

This was all around another killer book from Shana Frost! I really enjoyed how much grit this one had. This one certainly came out of the cozy mystery vibe and became more of a suspenseful crime mystery! I had such a blast while reading!

This is the second book in this entertaining series featuring DI Callan Cameron and Innkeeper Aileen Mackinnon. During a fierce storm. Aileen investigates a suspicious light in the woods surrounding her picturesque Scottish inn and discovers the lifeless body of her former employee Marley hanging from a beam in a nearby deserted cottage. Aileen feels somewhat guilty because she was forced to fire Marley due to her rude manner and lack of interest. Should she have made an effort to get to know her better? When the death is ruled a suicide, Aileen and Callan join forces to prove that this is in fact a murder. They embark on a dangerous trail full of colorful characters, false leads and a deadly encounter in a dirty alley. They find multiple enemies, both obvious and hidden, before they discover the truth. The story had me captivated from the beginning prologue and I always love novels set in Scotland and Ireland, home to my paternal ancestors. I especially enjoyed the local dialect and the banter between Aileen and Callan, which reminds me of the early episodes of the TV show Castle. Aileen is learning that she is stronger and more courageous than she ever imagined and Callan’s gruff exterior fails to completely mask his growing admiration. I look forward to future adventures with these two. This is my honest review of an ARC I received from the author.

I loved every page of it. It was dramatic, tense and humorous and I found myself eager to read what was going to happen next. I like the characters and think there are good interactions between them and there is fun dialogue written throughout. The location is good and it is clear that Shana has researched the language and dialects that they used in Scotland, which makes it more realistic to read.

The second book in a series, When Eyes Don't Lie, was a great adventure! Aileen and Callan are back to solve another murder, and things quickly get more intense and dangerous by the page. Shana puts together a great cast of characters, including a strong female lead and a multi-faceted male lead. I can't wait to see what they do next!
