While more limited in finishes than his "Understanding Wood Finishing" the instructions are very detailed and the products used are almost 20 years more current. If you've never refinished furniture, this is a great first book.
This book is written with the amateur in mind. It goes over each type of finish and technique step by step and in detail. For an experienced wood finisher, this gets very tedious, since many of the steps are the same, and much of the advice is repeated. However, it does have some excellent advice on refinishing antiques and some good information on the characteristics of wood. Although I would not recommend this book for an experienced woodworker, it would be very useful for the beginner, hence its title.
The kink of finishing.starts quick uses chemistry to differentiate finnishes, tests, feel, very hands on and deep knowledge base. The best part is you do not feel overloaded due to his organized teaching by class of finish. Instructs how to and how to fix your errors. Very down to earth. I learne, meaning it stuck in my head, f I’m this finishing book th n any other in its class. One of my VERY FE MUST READ.
I wish I had read this book earlier. It helped me find reasons why my finishes weren't always coming out ideal and how to fix them. The book is very simple and basic, but that's what makes it incredibly useful.
