A chunk of Kryptonite has turned Superman into a wild animal! He's on the streets and looking to make monkey trouble. Can Beppo the Super-Monkey stop him from making Metropolis his playground?
Metropolis Monkey Trouble is a short, silly, and surprisingly clever Super-Pets adventure that leans fully into comic chaos and it works. This story is clearly aimed at younger readers, but it has enough humor and self-awareness to entertain adults too, especially anyone familiar with Superman lore.
The plot kicks off with Superman enjoying a quiet dinner in Metropolis until red kryptonite enters the picture. In classic comic fashion, the effects are immediate and ridiculous: Superman is transformed into a monkey. Watching the Man of Steel lose his dignity in such an over-the-top way is half the fun, and it’s hard not to laugh, particularly if you know any die-hard Superman fans who might bristle at the comparison. (This book practically begs to be gifted as a joke.)
Enter Beppo the Super-Monkey, who quickly becomes the real hero of the story. Hearing the chaos, Beppo steps in to clean up Superman’s mess and save the day. Using quick thinking and a fake giant banana Beppo cleverly lures Monkey Superman away from public view, preventing even more embarrassment. The solution is simple, smart, and perfectly suited to a children’s comic: Beppo knocks Superman out just long enough for the red kryptonite effects to wear off, restoring him to normal.
Art Baltazar’s illustrations are bright, expressive, and full of energy, perfectly matching the absurd tone of the story. The exaggerated expressions and playful visuals make the humor land even harder, especially during Monkey Superman’s antics. The pacing is quick, making it an easy and engaging read from start to finish.
Overall, Metropolis Monkey Trouble is a fun, lighthearted addition to The Amazing Adventures of the DC Super-Pets. It doesn’t take itself seriously, and that’s exactly its strength. With laugh-out-loud moments, a lovable hero in Beppo, and a gleefully ridiculous premise, this book is perfect for young readers, DC fans, or anyone who enjoys seeing superheroes get knocked down a peg or turned into a monkey.

Miss 7 really enjoys reading Tiny Titans and DC Super Pets comics.
Miss 7 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
