Buck Jackson: Mountain Man #3

Buck Jackson: Mountain Man: A Third Mountain Man Adventure

Rate this book
A brand new Mountain Man adventure from D.M. Haggard!

Mountain man Buck Jackson is alone again, after finding squatters in his Colorado cabin—pretty Donna Wheeler and her children, pioneers left behind by their wagon train. After the Wheelers’ departure for their family ranch in Kansas, Buck sets out to find his onetime fur-trapping partner, Kit Carson. Kit was badly wounded in an ambush near the border town of Saguache, and Buck doesn’t know if he’ll find his old friend alive and well, or buried somewhere in the New Mexico Territory. Along the way, Buck endures the perils and pleasures of the trail—whiskey and tall tales at the annual Mountain Man Rendezvous, a risky encounter with violent Comancheros, the unexpected rescue of two kidnapped Navajo children, and a flash flood that nearly kills him. He must use all his hard-won skills to survive, seek out Kit, and finally make it home.

D. M. Haggard, aka D. M. Horridge, was born in Texas, raised on cactus, dust, and a strong family. When I was very young, I would visit my uncle's farm in San Antonio and work side by side with my seven cousins baling hay, swimming in a round cow trough, and hunting rattlesnakes. I've hunted and fished all over the United States, and have worked like a trojan on my own ranch in Texas. I've written short stories and professional articles for a variety of marketing and professional magazines, but only recently started writing western adventure stories. I like learning about the real characters of western history and use them in a fictional way. I feel like I am preserving their memory and the heritage they left for us over time. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife of 55 years, two terrific children, and a million friends. I try to leave a message in every book that says to the reader, "we are all part of this world of ours and we need to work together to keep it from falling apart." My family is the most important part of my life. I have also been blessed with four fabulous grandchildren and two spouses of our children who have brought a wonderful depth to our family and extended family. One of my favorite subjects is the Texas Rangers, a group of tough, honorable, and law-abiding men and women. Only recently I have begun a series of children's books named "The Amazing Adventures of Two Boys." They represent many of the stories my father told to my brother and me as children. Always exciting, but not frightening, they give me great pleasure to write and publish on Amazon under my father's name, Don Horridge, and my name D. M. Horridge. All of the proceeds from these children's books are donated to children's ministries throughout the world. Thanks for listening.

This is a book of fiction. Some of the characters in it were real but the author takes liberties to tie them all into a fictional story. I really enjoy reading these book and this series. It's a fun story to read and it's exciting through out. While they all may not be historically accurate they aren't suppose to be. Great read if you can appreciate it for what it is.

A Little Disappointing.

The biggest disappointment was the last disappointment, when Buck got ho e it was supposed to be Donna Jean! The man had enough sit backs, he really needed something nice .

The Search For Kit Carson

Buck leaves his badly wounded friend Kit Carson in order to complete an expedition to California and once completed begins a search for his old friend. Well written with lots of shootouts and excitement. I would highly recommend it.

Poor transcribing

Whoever was responsible for transcribing this book needs a different job .
The book was excellent However the repetition of sentences and paragraphs ruined the reading.

Needed a good editor

Story was entertaining, as were the previous two, but would have benefited from a editorial review prior to publishing. A lot of repeated passages and words became a bit annoying midway through the book.
