Carrie is a Louisiana born, Texas transplant and recent North Carolina resident. She earned her BA in English from East Texas Baptist University where she met and fell in love at first sight with her hunky husband, Jeffrey Craig Cotten.

After a short tour in Alaska with the Army, Carrie and Jeff returned to Texas to start a family. Fifteen years and four kids later, they answered God's call to enter the ministry, embarking on a wild adventure that led them to the Appalachian mountains.

When Carrie isn't writing, you can find her cuddling a chicken, petting a pig or snuggling a sheep on their small family farm. She loves the freedom they've found in homeschooling and the unlimited opportunities to explore the mountains. Camping, farming, and watching movies are some of their favorite family activities. Carrie and Jeff serve together at a small church where Jeff is the youth pastor.

Her favorite thing to do is steal a quiet moment to sit on her front porch and take in the most beautiful view she's ever seen in her life.

Carrie did it again, guys!! She wrote another incredible, thrilling, roller-coaster ride of a book that had me dying to read a chapter and then and another! And now I have a book-hangover and don’t want to read anything else! #TheStruggleIsReal

Dark of Night picks up about a year after the first book, Dreamwalker, ended and dives straight into the action and mystery. Andy has come a long way from where she started at the beginning of the first book, but you quickly see she still has so much to learn about God and about herself. It’s soooo hard to talk about the story itself without giving away a ton of spoilers for both book one and this book! There’s so much I wish I could say!! Ahhhhh! What I can say is that her search for answers to the questions she was left with after Dreamwalker is so twisty-turny it left my head was spinning (in the best way). I was constantly trying to unravel the tangled web of mystery and truly didn’t have it all figured out until the end–and even then, there are still some questions that have to be answered in book three!

I loved getting to see Andy and Will’s relationship grow throughout this book, and see them fight for their future together. And boy does Carrie make them fight for it! **all the tears!** My heart could hardly take it!! Seriously, I nearly had a heart attack a couple of times! LOL! Will himself really shined in this book. He is just so sweet and amazing! **again, tears!** I loved getting to know him more and see his selfless love for Andy play out in such a beautiful way.

Once again, the message Carrie weaves into this complex, action-packed story touches the reader in a profound way. This isn’t just a fluff read. This book has substance and spiritual meat that leaves you enriched and encouraged by the end of it! It’s worth every bit of 5/5 Stars and more–plus, it will most likely make my top reads of the year list alongside Dreamwalker!!! I’m now dying to read book three! I can’t wait to see what happens next in Andy’s story! So, if you’re reading this Carrie, no pressure or anything but… please write faster! LOL!

**I received a copy of this book from the author for review, but was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are completely my own.**

A gripping psychological thriller with Christian themes. This is an amazing Christian suspense book.
This book is admittedly slower-paced than her first book, reading more like a psychological thriller than the adventurous nature of the first one. However, it was just as intense and the emotional stakes were definitely present. Plus, the last chunk of the novel had more action in it.
Joanna "Andy," the main character, drives me crazy in a good way. She constantly struggles to do the right thing, and it can be frustrating to read her failing to triumph over and over again. Yet, it is also realistic. We all struggle to do the right thing. Some days we win. Other days we lose. But overall, God works it out for his good, which is a major theme in this book. On the other hand, I like Will, her husband. How can this man seriously be patient with Andy? She is always running away, throwing fits, and causing problems for him. Yet, he shows unconditional love for her. Will is human, but he definitely acts like a Christ figure here. Only Christ could have this kind of love. I certainly would have ditched Joanna when she ran away for like the fiftieth time. His character definitely helped me hang on while Joanna wrestled with her problems.
Overall, this was a good book that people who are fans of thriller novels will enjoy.

Carrie Cotten once again takes us into a world where dreams can prove just as dangerous as real life, and leads us on an intense journey from untamed anger to redemption, revealing just how imperative family and the Word of God truly are.

Andromeda “Andy” Stone is dead. But what the Agency doesn’t know is that Joanna Carter is very much alive. With a new name, and with the help of her family, Andy once again enters the world of dreams, this time seeking out the truth behind her parent’s death so many years before. Who killed them? And why? And what does it have to do with her?

But the more Andy sees, the more she learns, the more she has to lose. And she finds herself once again in danger.

I loved watching the journey Andy was on during Dark of Night. My heart went out to her as she watched her past unfold in front of her eyes, so close she could almost touch it. I also enjoyed watching the relationship between her and her husband, agent Will Carter, as they navigated this new “assignment” together. Andy can prove unpredictable, a risk-taker, but Will stuck with her and, though “goes along with it” may not quite be the right phrase to use, he trusts her enough to relent.

One of my favorite images in this story was the seed of anger that Andy planted deep inside (I’m a sucker for imagery). Her faith began to waver as she tended the seed throughout the story, and soon this seed began to sprout. It took a bit of tough love and understanding from a family member to bring her back from the depths, but soon she was able to conquer this unholy anger and continued to do what she had been called to do in a way that was pleasing to God.

Carrie Cotten continues to write realistic characters in a world that straddles the line between reality and dream, giving each character a purpose and a time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to lose themselves in a good story. With edge-of-the-seat suspense, and time running out, this book is one you won’t want to put down.

First things first, I have got to say that when Carrie calls herself a writer of “Gripping Christian Fiction” she absolutely delivers. There were so many chapters in Dark of Night where I was literally holding my breath or feeling the emotions of each character, especially Andy. I went up and down the emotional rollercoaster with Andy and I felt so connected to her. Andy’s transformations and understanding of Christianity and how we all make mistakes and what it is to be a true believer is so beautiful. Her seed that she kept hiding and holding in reminded me of the story of the two wolves (good and evil) and the one that wins is the one you feed. Carrie has a true and powerful gift of being able to create these wonderful characters, share them with us, and at the same time let these unique characters develop into their own beings in the stories as she is writing them. I can’t wait for Book 3.

Dark of Night is filled with lovable (and unlovable) characters, suspense, joy, heartbreak, and the unending love of Jesus. With this being my first introduction to the Dreamwalker novels, I initially felt like I was drowning in an ocean of all that I didn’t know, but as the book progressed, Carrie carefully wove in flashbacks and details, until I could relax and follow Andy and her family’s journey. At least for a moment, until the next development in their mission would crash in like a new wave! Andy learns again and again, that much is beyond our control, but obedience and trusting in God’s bigger plan, will lead us - not around, but through, the roughest times.

Dark of Night is coming home to all of the beloved characters (and villains) from Dreamwalker–and then stepping onto a roller coaster with them. Still learning how to be a team, Andy and Will give each other the courage to run straight toward the danger and risk everything for the sake of the mission, even as their own deepest fears and inadequacies threaten to swallow them whole.Carrie Cotten never takes the easy way out, crafting a story that is as emotionally raw as it is suspenseful through characters that leap off the page. Truth shines in this unique tale, and light overcomes the darkness. Jump onto this ride, and hang on tight!

Dark of Night, Carrie Cotton’s second book in her Dreamwalker series, isn’t simply a work of fiction, it is a call to action, a reminder that there are forces unseen working against us in a realm beyond our comprehension.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12 KJV

This book is the visceral reminder that as people, Christians or not, we are in the midst of a spiritual battle for our soul every day. No, most of us don’t wield physical weapons in our everyday lives, (unless we are in the military or law enforcement) but there are spiritual weapons at our disposal and we can draw on them, reign them into our control with our trust that God is bigger than any evil pressing down upon us and around us.
I would compare this book to those of Frank Peretti who first opened the eyes of many Christians to the reality of spiritual warfare in books such as This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness. There are some who believed his stories, like Carrie’s, are simply that — stories, but when a person faces the actual dark tentacles sliding out of the darkest recesses of their mind, blocking out goodness with thoughts of revenge and ruin, like I have a few times in my life, they will realize what they thought was a story is actually true.
It’s scary to have to admit there is truth in Carrie’s book.
Are there people who can walk in dreams and hurt other people? Not that we know of. Are there evil forces that can influence us to the point that evil no longer seems evil and good no longer seems good? I think anyone who is living through what our nation and our world are facing these days knows that there are evil forces; there is a real father of lies whispering in the ears of many, telling them not to trust what God has implanted in them, but to instead trust what the media, society, and politicians tell them is true.

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!: Isaiah 5:20

This isn’t a political book. Don’t misunderstand. This isn’t picking apart issues we now consider political and telling you what to believe. Not in the least. It does not mention our modern issues. There are bigger stakes at play here – the fight for individual souls and the fight to not be overtaken by hatred and evil. This book takes issues that the main character Joanna battles within herself and brings it right down to the personal deep level, reminding the reader that Joanna isn’t the only one who has to resist evil — we all do.

Quote from book, Esther to Joanna (Andy): “That’s exactly what I’m saying,” she said passionately. “It doesn’t take brute force or physical weapons to fight these battles, it takes spiritual strength that comes from faith in a very, very powerful God. He is greater, His Word is greater than anything . . . anything . . . in this world, even the hidden things.”

If you are not ready to be spiritually challenged while mentally entertained with fast-paced action, well-written prose, and characters you will fall quickly and solidly in love with (to the point you will cry if harm comes to them), then don’t read this book. But, if you are ready to challenge your faith, your perception of reality, increase your knowledge of a spiritual realm that is in play all around us, and be entertained at the same time, then you need to pick up a copy of Dark of Night NOW. This is a must-read for every Christian, but it is also a read that even someone who doesn’t consider themselves a Christian will enjoy.

Quote from the book(Jacob to Andy): “You say you believe in God, that you love Him. If that’s true, then you have to trust Him to keep His promises. If we trust Him, truly trust Him, then we can remain in Him and all things will work together for our good – either now or eventually, even the terrible choices of other people.”

“Each pass by a mirror further reflected my slow descent into dark poisonous waters, ruinous and without a measure of depth.”

Andromeda “Andy” Stone, a.k.a Joanna Carter is a former agent for a top secret government agency. She has the ability to walk in other people’s dreams, and communicate with them, finding truths they would otherwise be capable of hiding.

In this book, she and her new husband Will are on their own mission to seek out a villain from her past and put a stop to the horrific crimes she’s committing.

While on this journey, Andy struggles in her newfound faith, attempting to balance the trust she desires to have in God’s sovereignty and the incredible power that could drive her to darkness.

This story really pulled at my heartstrings. I can relate to Andy on so many levels. The reality of the darkness in this world, and the fine line we tend to walk as believers is a huge theme here... one that is addressed in such a beautiful and creative way.

Carrie Cotten is an author I’m grateful to “know,” and one I find true inspiration through. Looking forward to reading the third book in this series when it’s finished!

If you like dark and twisty stories with elements of Christian faith, this series is for you!

I wasn't sure what to expect from Dark of Night, but my goodness am I so happy I experienced this story! Dark of Night grabbed me from the beginning and never let go (that ending though!) A swoon-worthy hero, a relatable heroine with fascinating abilities and a new found faith, a supportive cast of characters that feel like family, mysterious villains, characters that keep you guessing and a robust gospel message that will bring you to tears - this book has it all. Oh and Cajun food, can't forget the Cajun food. Incredible story that left me anxiously awaiting book three. Trust me when I say, you do not want to miss this book.

Dark of Night is the second book in Carrie’s Dreamwalker series. It continues the story of Andy, a young woman with the ability to walk through other people’s dreams, a penchant for getting herself into scrapes, and a growing relationship with God. Let’s be honest: Carrie had me at “woman can walk in dreams + Jesus,” but throw in a truly heroic male lead that shines brightly without ever outshining the female protagonist, a well-rounded cast of secondary characters, and a gripping suspense plot, and you can see why this one kept me up into the wee hours.

If you like suspense thrillers with a hint of science fiction/supernatural elements (think Fringe, but clean and with a Gospel message), give this series a go. Just don’t start any of her books if you need to get up early in the morning.

An excellent sequel to Dreamwalker. I loved following the intense storyline, theorizing and getting some answers on the big mysteries, and getting to know some minor characters better, like Uncle Jacob.
Also, can we talk about Andy's ability to remember people's quotes or scripture passage after hearing them once, or is that just a fancy trick from her grandmother's "Remember"?
I enjoyed hearing from Whatisname in prison (I'm totally blanking on his name right now, but maybe it's ok because of spoilers), and was a tad disappointed we didn't get a followup on what happened.
I hope the next book has more of Marco, cus I feel like he has a whole story in the wings.

I listened to the Audible version, and want to give a brief review on that as well, because I'm mad impressed at the reader's ability to give new voices to each character, which helped my mind remember people and keep them separate.

High stakes. High risk. High emotions. You can find all of that action-packed goodness in Carrie Cotten's Dark of Night. You will want to read the first in the Dreamwalker series to full understand this installment. I just can't say enough about Cotten's writing or creativity.

Breath holding suspense

A roller coaster ride of intense feelings from terror and despair to mercy and grace, always with loads of hope.
This second book in the Dreamwalker series is seriously suspenseful and intense!
The very real fight between good and evil within each of us is explored, and the way to choose what is right and good is beautifully expressed through Andy's spiritual journey and growth in her faith.

I'd say a solid 4.5 but going to give if 5 anyway. The middle was quite slow and I struggled a bit during it. However, it wrapped up quite nicely and thoroughly enjoyed the overall plot of overcoming rage to be replaced with righteous anger as it's something I struggle with often. Another beautiful job by the author to weave in the gospel to an enjoyable and intriguing novel. Onto book #3!

What I really like best about this is the Biblical guidance and doctrinal truths.

This novel has a lot (for example )
about wanting revenge,
and the enemy pull towards power.

I am happy the author put a few more actual scriptures in.

When other readers say a novel is not 'preachy', I figure the novel is not for me!!!

I want 'preachy',
otherwise
It is in my opinion:
a clean secular' novel!!!

If someone does not like 'prechy'
then why read a CHRISTIAN novel?
By the very nature of the words :
CHRISTIAN NOVEL...

and it
should indicate that
God, Jesus, the Bible etc.
will be a major part of the CHRISTIAN novel.

I also loved the element of hope,
although in real life things don't always have a happy ending!

I guess I was really fond of suspense...
not just this novel but any novel.

I hate not knowing if someone will live ( for example),
while having to wait,
and read something that becomes boring
( when it really is not)
but I am always tempted to skim thru until I find out what happened...
Like did Will die or did he live?

I know this too can happen in evil real life,
but sigh
I sort of read fiction as a time out of real evil life
and to dig more deeply into what God wants.

One part really struck me, sadly,
as so close to what is happening in Africa today!
It was really the bigger picture of Satan's works
in the world today....
and how a believer can be depressed over what they see in the world
and mourn about the evil that is seemingly growing fast and furious!

BUT God...

So I will read the 3rd in the series.

Fantastic thrilling read from start to finish. It is always hard for me to jump into a book that isn’t totally reality. Two authors make it a bit easier, and this author is definitely one of them. I stay hooked for two reasons.

First, I want to follow the characters. They are incredibly well done and have shortcomings like us all. They grow through the circumstances in the book just as they do in our own lives. It isn’t all sunshine and roses, but God is there with us through those trials.

Second, I love the faith theme in this novel it is absolutely fantastic. Dealing with anger and learning to trust and obey God are things in which every Christian can improve. One can feel these emotions as the writer portrays them so well! A big bonus in putting in scripture. All of this is so well done and the faith theme is seamlessly woven in the story.

So now we fans eagerly wait the next book....and try to wait patiently...maybe this book should have dealt with that virtue! 🙂

I received this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

Cotten's second novel in the Dreamwalker Series, Dark of Night, does NOT disappoint. It is the perfect companion to the first novel, but stands on its own just fine. Andy and Will's story is packed with action, romance, mystery, and above all, a spiritual battle that reminds every believer, that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood...(Ephesians 6:12).
Cotten's characters are so human, believably flawed, and changing as they grow with each book. The Gospel is prevalent throughout her novels and I, for one, will add her to my "instant buy" category for any future work. Excited to see what else is to come from Cotten.

My summary: Andy walks in dreams. She has the ability to enter other people’s dreams and interact with those people in ways that affect them in reality. Andy works to use her supernatural power for good, but when she learns of darkness hurting innocent people, she begins to wrestle with anger, hate, and using dreamwalking for evil. Andy must choose to show grace and mercy to her enemies or be overtaken by her hatred for them.

Positives
The story was so intense, complex, and thrilling with twists and turns, high stakes, high emotions, totally evil bad guys, and so much else that kept me reading. From the first page to the last, I could not stop reading.

It has some romance in which the guy is focused on protecting the girl who is in danger, and it is so well done.

Secret police agent details make the plot feel real and complex. As the characters worked to figure out what was going on, I hung on every detail.

The characters were realistic. They burst with real and difficult emotions. They struggled hard with their own issues, others, and the bigger evil.

The dreamwalker power was really cool.

Andy’s struggle with hate was so realistic and relatable, so deep and difficult that it hurt to go through with her. No spoilers, but that was so intensely human and taught such a hard but important lesson that the struggle alone is enough reason for everyone to read this book.

The book had so much darkness but showed how Jesus always be light and a way out of darkness even when escape feels impossible.

The spiritual aspects were perfectly incorporated into the story. God or something about Him was in every chapter, and it was integral to the story.

I honestly can’t think of anything I didn’t like about or thought should be different with the story.

Overall: Thrilling, deep, and beautiful. I could not stop reading!

My rating: A solid 3.5 stars.
I admit that book one is a big fave. It’s hard to beat with all the action and suspense, and the sinister antagonist Taklos. Admittedly, I found myself waiting for more to happen quite a few chapters in. But when it got to the action, it definitely picked up and I found myself needing to see how it all ended! Andy frustrated me with how she treated Will in this one sometimes, but that’s very real and raw and truly human. We can’t always be at our best. There are so many great and inspirational quotes in this book. It’s so infused with the gospel and I did appreciate the theme of this story and the importance of not giving up when we’re struggling and facing temptation. Carrie Cotten is a great writer. And I look forward to reading book three in the series!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time! Great writing! The author has such great pacing throughout the story. The books ends with a lot of questions answered, but leaves just enough hanging that I need to know what happens next.

Andy goes through such deep spiritual and emotional growth here in book two and you really feel for her. Will is still just as wonderful, which just adds a wonderful layer of romance to this thriller.

I really like how the author adds the gospel and faith elements into the story. It’s believable and such a great reminder that our battles are not always against flesh and blood and often fought best on our knees. I will definitely be reading more by this author!

Dark of night is another amazing Supernatural Christian fiction novel! This book picks up after the events of Dreamwalker, and Andy, our FMC is once again in the middle of a suspenseful mission complete with plot twists and turns. Not only will the suspense keep you reading, the redemption arc is powerful and faith-building! This is another highly recommended novel!

In this series the threads of the Gospel: forgiveness, faithfulness, compassion, love, redemption and the things that try to get in the way like anger, bitterness, pride, fear. All of these are told and shown so beautifully that I was in tears thinking of how great God is and how much we need Him.
Honestly, I would love to have Bible study with this author. Something tells me it would be great.
