She partied with rock’n’roll royalty. They’ll kill to keep their crowns.
Cordelia Dean danced in the rain at Woodstock, drank with Jimi Hendrix in Paris, practiced yoga with John and Yoko at the Dakota, shared a room with Patti Smith at the Chelsea Hotel.
Or so she says.
Now Cordy Dean is a washed-up rock journalist living off Social Security in a crumbling house in Palmyrton, NJ. Estate sale organizer Audrey Nealon must sift through Cordy’s trove of rock memorabilia and find some saleable items to keep the aging hippie solvent.
The collector’s items Cordy boasts about might be figments of her imagination…or might be valuable enough to kill for.
When a man turns up murdered in Palmyrton, Audrey discovers the freaks and misfits who surround Cordy aren’t as harmless as she thought. And her search for rock and roll treasure takes on new intensity. Because the objects that lie concealed in Cordy’s house just might rewrite the cultural history of the seventies.
S.W. Hubbard writes the kinds of books she loves to read: twisty, believable, full of complex characters, and highlighted with sly humor. She is the author of the Palmyrton Estate Sale Mystery Series and the Frank Bennett Adirondack Mountain Mystery Series, as well as the Life in Palmyrton Women's Friendship Fiction Series. Her short stories have appeared in Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine and the anthologiesDead Drift, Crimes by Moonlight, The Mystery Box, andAdirondack Mysteries. When not writing, she hikes with her rescue dog, Libby, and her husband. She lives in Morristown, NJ.
I can't get enough of Audrey and her compatriots. Hubbard has created a fictional community so detailed that I can picture driving down the streets, meeting Audrey for a cup of coffee, and arranging for her to take care of an estate sale for me. Seriously, I REALLY want her to do one for me!! I wonder how much my ticket to a John Denver college concert is worth? He signed it at the after-party I went to. It was fun re-living the '70s a bit, and Hubbard even created a Spotify songlist to go along with the book.
What I especially like about all of Hubbard's books/series is that the characters don't stay stagnant. They grow and develop. Audrey's even learning about fancy produce like fennel. I had to laugh at that scene because my daughter has been doing all my grocery shopping during the pandemic. Early on, I had to get VERY specific about brand, size, etc. I took to inserting images from the internet of the exact item I wanted. These are the kinds of tidbits that make Hubbard's books so relatable. As with all of her books, I had to force myself to stop reading and go to bed. *I received an ARC of the book and this is totally my honest review!
I once again got immediately drawn into Audrey’s drama. S.W. Hubbard has a way with words to captivate a reader from the beginning. No need to summarize the premise. Who knew estate sales could involve murder and mayhem? Each of the supporting, continuing characters have interesting lives that contribute to my interest in this satisfying series. Very highly recommended.
Audrey Nealon-Coughlin proves that no good deed goes unpunished. Audrey and Sean find new friends, Peter and Noreen, after Audrey and her team work their magic selling off a life time of memories for Peter’s mom and dad before they leave for their new home in North Carolina. They ask Audrey to help out Peter’s adopted Aunt Cordy, try to find something valuable in her accumulated treasures from years of covering and writing about rock bands for Bass Line that will help pay off the tax lien on her home. This is a wonderfully woven who done it! The characters are fully developed and lovable. I so look forward to visiting with them as they move their way through the story. Thank You Ms Hubbard, I’m really looking forward to the next AMT story and hope that Sean and Audrey will receive Good News.
This book is another enjoyable adventure with the characters featured in the Palmyrton Estate Sale Mystery series. Like all of the books in the series, it provides lots of twists and turns before the mystery is solved. I have enjoyed reading them so much that I dread having to wait until the next one is available next fall.
Another estate sale organizer mystery! I have a strong affection for these characters and would enjoy them anywhere, anytime. I'm not sure that would be true for all readers, so I hesitate to recommend the series. It's lively, amusing, perfectly character-driven, and doesn't rely on cheap cliches to advance the story. For example, Augie's husband is a homicide detective, working on a case that seems to be tangentially connected with her business. But their interactions are blessedly free of the "stay safe and keep out of my business" attitude from him and she doesn't have to "prove" to him that she can use her brain to figure out things. Nor does she single-handedly solve the crime by a womanly intuition, nor does she get attacked repeatedly and have to be rescued by her brainy and brawny cop partner. None of that--this is much more sensible and Audrey is no clueless meddler in matters she doesn't belong in.
You know I love the characters. The mystery was very good. But it was the blast from the past that put a smile on my face. The team is helping out an aging rock star reporter from 70's and 80's. Seventies was definitely my era of rock music. So fun to read the remembrances about old rockers. There were other storylines going on as well as the main murder mystery. Love the extra effort to keep the pace fast and fresh.
I could not stop reading! The characters continue to develop and the twists and turns are anything but predictable. I am eager to start the next Treasure 😊
S.W. Hubbard's "Palmyrton Estate Sale Mystery" series is a real treasure! Half the pleasure from these "twisty, up-all-night reads" (an accurate description!) is solving the mystery; the other half is following the lives, friendships, trials and tribulations of Audrey Nealon, who owns Another Man's Treasure, her husband Sean, a police detective, her assistants Ty and Donna, and the supporting characters like Ty's nephew and Audrey's chess-playing dad, who make these books so rich and rewarding.
In Rock Bottom Treasure, the plot revolves around two seemingly unconnected events. One is the murder of famed Hollywood producer Ross Pelletiere, whose body is discovered at an obscure site along the train tracks in Palmyrton. The other is Audrey's discovery of some original rock-and-roll song lyrics at the home of almost-hoarder and retired rock journalist Cordelia Dean. The sale of those hand-written lyrics for more than $10,000 kicks off a series of perplexing and sometimes dangerous events that, again, seem totally random...until Audrey finds the key that connects them.
Meanwhile, Audrey is grappling with a host of urgent questions: Did one of Cordy Dean's hanger-on housemates try to mug Audrey? Did Ty's father, recently released from prison, have anything to do with the hit-and-run assault on Ty's sister Charmaine? Does Audrey's friend Peter know that his Dad is lying to Cordy (an old family friend) about the tax bill she supposedly owes? And is there REALLY anything else of value buried in the piles of junk (sorry, memorabilia) that Cordy owns?
Watching Audrey unravel these and other tangles—with help from her crew of friends, family, and co-workers—is a true pleasure right up to the satisfying surprise ending.
I can't wait for the next Palmyrton Estate Sale Mystery!
Rock Bottom Treasure - a review by Rosemary Kenny.
In S.W. Hubbard's 7th novel of her Palymyrton Estate Sale Case series, Rock Bottom Treasure, retired journalist to the stars/former rock-'n'-roll chick Cordelia ('Cordy') Dean's relations ask their friend Audrey Nealon, an estate sales expert, to explore her 'hoarder's paradise' of a home, in the hopes of finding some valuable souvenirs to sell, to pay off her massive tax bill.
Sean's a fan so goes along to chat to Cordy, while Audrey, Peter and Noreen hunt high and low. Where do they find a hidden treasure? Who mugs Audrey while she delivers the valuable item?
As more secrets, lies and subterfuge are uncovered, who's the mastermind behind Cordy's woes and who targets one of Audrey's staff?
The truth will out eventually and you'll be stunned when you learn the identity of the guilty party - to find out, buy your copy of Rock Bottom Treasure by the marvelous S.W. Hubbard...go for it!
Always enjoy this series. Each estate sale has it's own story and this has two for one. Characters are growing in confidence and charm. And, yes, I did read this in one sitting.
The hits keep coming with this book.what could be more enjoyable then reading about rock stars of the past? This has it all mysteries, murder ,rock stars it's a great read the things Audrey finds herself getting into you just can't make it up.I've read every book in this series and I'm looking forward to reading many many more.
I really enjoyed this book and the six before it, They keep you guessing till the end, and they don’t leave you hanging so you have to read the next book they each stand alone.
I love this series. You can always count on Audrey to get involved in some trouble, usually with good intentions, but nevertheless trouble. Love the characters in this series, after 6 books they are like old friends. Great storyline, kept me turning pages, was sorry to get to the end so fast.
Another perfect mystery by MS. Hubbard. I enjoy Audrey and her friends so much and just know I'd be working with them! I can't wait until the next adventure with hopefully a pregnant Audrey!
I love her stories, a nice change from the sci-fi and thriller books I read. Not quite in the cozy mystery genre but a lot of fun and great characters.
I always look forward to a new adventure with Audrey and Sean and their crew of friends. There were a lot of characters so a lot of suspects but Audrey stays in the middle, working to find the answer. I enjoy the sweet relationship Audrey and Sean have as she runs her parallel investigations but they can still talk about it. Good plot, great characters and always an enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed all your books but the Palmerton (spelling) were my favorites. I just started to read other books you have written and I like them as well.
I really enjoy these books. The characters are well drawn and developed and are interesting! The plot of this one centered(kinda) around the estate sale business of Audrey’s and somehow gets involved in the business of her policeman husband. Great escapism. I sincerely hope that there are many more of this series!
Enjoyable series. Slightly complex characters but believable. Didn't want to stop reading. Made me want to go to an estate sale. I like the author and other books that she has written.
Audrey is back with her engaging, believable, and varied friends and employees. While she works on estate sales and an intriguing mystery, husband Sean follows a separate case for the Palmyrton PD. Hubbard fleshes it all out with captivating details and, of course, wraps it up with a satisfying conclusion tying it all together.
This may be my favorite book in the series! Good book, easy to follow and kept you guessing until the end. Audrey just can't stay out of trouble, it just follows her. Really good book!! I hope this isn't the last one I need to know what happens, do they get pregnant or do they adopt? I need more!
Another compelling mystery from S.W. Hubbard. I honestly love Audrey’s nosiness and the way she cares about her employees. Audrey’s friends ask her to help a friend sell some rock memorabilia to pay back taxes. What follows is a fun dive into rock bands from the 1970s. I love the way Hubbard pulls all the threads together to get a great twisty mystery.
My brain wasn’t as attentive this time around. Regardless if my subjective state, S. W. Hubbard spins an intricate tale of murder, mystery, and just the right touch of angst to entertain and engage.
When you start reading this book you won't want to stop!!
I've loved the other books in this series and this newest one didn't disappoint! The twists and turns in the plot as well as the wonderful characters the author has created kept you turning the pages all night! Anyone who is a fan of cozy mysteries will love this book....but since the various characters are introduced throughout the earlier books I would advise readers to start at the beginning. You won't be sorry. Enjoy!
