A friend gave this to me. I really love using it as a way to help me be more mindful from day to day. I would say that someone could use this from year to year. Some of the activities are good to repeat often. It definitely keeps one aware of how you are interacting with others, with your surroundings and within yourself. It's so helpful to take time to focus on bettering your mind, your relationships with others, and your healthy activities.

I’m not big on self help books. I had to lead with that. I go down the aisles in bookstores and the titles alone give me stress. This book was a gift for Christmas. Stress on stress because it came from my manager who causes me stress, I hadn’t finished my Christmas shopping when I received it, let alone planned out my reading for the coming year, now I have to set aside time to read this book for the next year! Ugh 😩

Then I held the book. Such a cute shape, fits in your purse! Such a colorful cover! I read the back cover. The table of contents. The additional resources. And I am one of those who reads the copyright page. I have never heard of Dr. Zoe Shaw before reading this book. After reading this book in one sitting, I have a few plans for this book.:
Dr Zoe is another sister from a different mother in my head✊🏾
This book had to get five stars from me because of the incredible thought that went into presenting self-care in a whole new way✊🏾
This review had to happen because the book was read this morning! I thought this was going to be a book about 366 ways to have a spa day 🧖🏽! Thankfully it is not! Each month addresses reset, relationships, renewal, motivation, simplicity, encouragement, purpose, discipline, boundaries, affirmation, gratitude and rest. In the additional resources section, there is a book called Sacred Rest: Recover Your Life, Renew Your Energy, Restore Your Sanity by Saundra Dalton-Smith. Who knew there was seven types of rest? I didn’t!
Dr Zoe has a podcast called The Dr. Zoe Show: Redefining Your Superwoman. So in addition to this book, you can get tips from her on how to develop strength in difficult relationships, including yourself.
This reading year is so much more meaningful having read this book. While I am not thankful about where the book came from ( I really don’t like that person; think micromanage with a capital MICROMANAGE), I am so grateful to Dr. Zoe Shaw for leaving the traditional couch and helping the community virtually and through this book. I’m taking it to work and leaving it on my desk so that I can revisit each day. She included February 29th for the leap year! She truly thought of everything! Thank you @DrZoeShaw🫶🏽

This is a really great daily motivational book.

I started this book at my sister's house in March I believe. She sent me home with the book, because I really enjoyed it and thought it would be fun to do together. I recommend the spiral binding edition, because it's easier to just leave it open on a stand somewhere you'll see it every day.

This year is actually my third time through and it hasn't gotten old yet.

I really enjoy that the days I consider challenging are followed by days with simple quotes. It feels like a meaningful rest. Some days really force me out of comfort zone, other days are inspiring and/or motivating/validating. It's been very enjoyable this year to recognize new habits that were started because of my first or even second read through. It's also been nice to see how much I've grown these last few years. My gratitude jar doesn't get added to every day, but I do still add to it and it's nice to go back through it and see how much I really do appreciate in my life.
I recently purchased the spiral binding and a lovely stand and now it's home is on my dresser. (I use the older paperback copy when I'm traveling)

If you're looking for a good daily book, this is an excellent choice, imho.
There are no names of days, just numbers, so it still works every year.

inspiring but not what expected

I was expecting more specific daily exercises based on the title but it was really more just overall advice. It was all very good and left a lot of room for thought but some more specific ideas thrown in would have been nice too. Overall it was uplifting and inspiring.

Yes, I read a daily self care book in the middle of the year. I do not have the patience to read a line or two every single day. I don't really think anyone does. This book did have some practical tips on different ways to care for yourself. It's a good mix of physical, mental and other kinds of things.

Back to Basics ~

I enjoy the simplicity and ease of reading. I liked that the months had a topic, and and each day was related to it. I like the simplicity of it, because it makes it easier to follow and stick with it, kind of like a starting over refresher course.

I took some breaks from this book and wish I hadn't. It helped reframe my thinking and helped me slow down. I plan to use it again in 2023 to hopefully develop these lessons into habits.

Great book with great ideas. Personally, I was already doing many of the things suggested, but I found some that I'm not doing and that would be helpful in my life.

A little corny at times but it really helped me keep on track with my intentions for the year and personal growth. I kept a journal to go along with it.

I know it hasn’t been a full year yet – technically I still have 2 months to go, but I’m going to go ahead and leave my little review now because I’ve already found so much value in this wonderful little book.

This book is broken up into monthly themes to help you to really embrace different aspects of self-care, but honestly you could pick this up any day and flip to any page and apply what you read. Being completely transparent, there were definitely days / weeks where I fell out of reading it every day, but the tid bits are small enough that you can easily catch up and read through a few of them all in one go for an extra boost.

I loved the way that the daily snippets are bite-sized and in no-way overwhelming. Some days have small actions that you could take, but for the most part it’s about shifting your view and/or taking very small steps towards the direction you want to move in in life. Whether you want to live with more intention, or treat yourself more gently when you need it most, I loved that the self-care focuses on more than just “light a candle and think happy thoughts.” They ask you to dive a little deeper into how you are feeling, what you are internalizing and gently gives you a push in a helpful direction without feeling condescending or preachy.

I really found this book a comfort to read and I think the advice is general enough that anyone could pick it up and take something away from it. This is a fantastic book to keep out on your coffee table and/or your desk, somewhere you will see it daily and feel inclined to flip through when you need a little boost of inspiration. It truly feels like you have a friend giving you some comforting advice.

I’ll be continuing to pick up and apply the bits of self-care again throughout the next year.
