Yours, Cara: A Dark Mystery

Rate this book
Everything comes unraveling in Cara Jansson’s life when her husband, Erik, goes missing. Her tumultuous, loveless marriage and a long-standing secret affair are revealed when an old flame comes back into the picture—Jane Foster, a well-known writer. With skeletons of her own and unrelenting desire for her lover, Jane wants Cara back in her life and, this time, for good. Louise Vetroff has her readers on the edge when what begins as a story of reunion and reconciliation quickly takes a rather vindictive turn. As the protagonists are confronted with a barrage of revelations, they find themselves lost in a maze of questions. But the most important one is this: How far are you willing to go for love?

A dark mystery!

Cara’s husband has disappeared but an old flame of hers, Jane, is back on the scene. Jane has pined for Cara and really wants to get her back, but in doing so finds herself wrapped up in all the drama surrounding Cara’s life. When secrets start to be revealed, with everyone trying to get to the bottom of what has happened and who is responsible, and most importantly whether Jane’s appearance has something to do with Cara’s missing husband.

This was a dark romance with many a twist and turn that the plot was completely unpredictable. It was difficult to try and piece together what had happened because any number of scenarios could have occurred. It was a clever story with all the expected angst and drama that makes this genre work. I was really intrigued by the characters, especially Cara because as one of the main characters she somehow managed to remain most elusive.

The snippets and various points of view from all the characters whose lives were impacted by Cara and Jane’s relationship and actions helped to give good insight and reveal all the clues and pieces to reveal the truth. It was very obvious that Jane was completely devoted to Cara and really would do anything for her, even when she was having moments of self-contemplation as to why she would do these things.

Cara and Jane’s story was one of these twisted tales. You can understand how they became the way they did and why they did what they did, but you also knew evil was partly at play here, driven by passion for one another and influences that had been impressed upon them rather than letting them be free to be in love. It was quite sad to see how all the actions and influences had affected them and changed them, but it was nice that through it all somehow they had managed to stick together.

An interesting read with a lot of thrills, angst, and drama, which surrounded a complex plot that kept me quite intrigued and longing to know the answers to the mystery.

I really enjoyed the book and couldn’t put it down until I finished it. The mix of mystery, a very twisted romance and the combined POV’s make the story appealing to the point you just need to know what is happening. I loved Cara’s character and the description her mother makes of her to Reese, Cara’s sister, and the last thoughts from Jack about Jane and Cara’s relationship were perfectly creepy and accurate.

The fact we get to know little by little the true nature of all the characters keeps you reading and turning pages even though sometimes the timing of the events was a little bit messy for me.

Good book, needed something darker and got it with this one.

*I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

Unfortunately I didn't click with this book. The story in it self was good but I lost myself in the time frame. Is it now or then or where am I ? I didn't feel the passion between the 2 MC, yes they were in love but I thought it was superficial , when the got together for a long weekend of love it was over so fast it was disappointing. The end took me by surprise though , I didn't expect it, nicely done. I'm sure I will read more from this author.

The worst book I have read in quite a while. I was tempted to stop after a few pages as I already disliked it but I kept telling myself to give it a chance.

The only character I actually liked was Jane’s grandpa.

Not only were the story and characters awful but the book was also full of grammatical and spelling errors.

I’m so glad it was kindle unlimited so it didn’t actually cost me any money.
