Grand Warlock Familiar Renny D’Vaire has a life he adores and is hoping for a mate who will not bring strife into his world. Renny, along with the rest of the D’Vaires, believes that his other half will be a dragon shifter, thanks to his magical beast form. Happy couples surround Renny, and he wants nothing more than to experience that joy for himself. However, Fate is full of surprises.
Protector Roriethiel of the Fae wakes up in an unfamiliar desert, uncertain how he arrived. His ample magic sapped, the rock he finds himself on is nothing like home. For weeks he stumbles along, searching for answers, and is unerringly led to the Council of Sorcery and Shifters. Rorie’s single purpose is to return to his castle, but instead he discovers his other half.
Renny is unsure how to handle the impetuous Rorie or the fairy’s desire to return to his realm. Torn between two worlds, Renny and Rorie find little common ground until they are lured into a magical dream. Chaos surrounds them as they unravel the mystery of what happened to Rorie, and although their attraction is intense and their feelings for each other grow swiftly, to succeed in love they must learn to trust that Fate has not led them astray.
Jessamyn Kingley has published over forty titles and refuses to pick a favorite among them. With an extraordinary passion for her characters, Jessamyn eagerly crafts new tales and avidly re-reads them whenever her schedule allows. Jessamyn shares a home in Nevada with her husband and their three spoiled cats. When she is not writing or adding new ideas to her thick stack of beloved notebooks, she is gaming with family and friends.
I was really looking forward to Renny’s book and I hate to say it but I was pretty disappointed. I felt like the Renny I was reading in this story was nothing like the Renny that I had come to know throughout the series. He was like a super toned down version of his self and I missed the old Renny. Then there was his mate. I never fully connected to him throughout the story. I also wasn’t happy that the majority of the book took place inside a dream. (I kept having Dallas flashbacks lol) All in all, the book was okay. I just hope that the next one in the series is better. I would love Worth to get his own story and HEA.
Took a while to figure out fae and their familiars.
For all this is m/m romance, there’s a lot of negative attention given to non traditional sex (the entire fae society collapsed because of two swingers).
A impulsive fae casts a sleeping spell by roofie, drags the whole extended family into a Dark Shadows costume drama, and nobody minds.
Also, little weird that in a land where magic does everything, money is an issue. Why need currency (and a treasury) if everyone has magic? Course, why have class separation and hierarchy, too?
The last of the light Fae come to the Council and end up in the D'Vaire Sanctuary. It's here that Protector Roriethiel finds his mate in Grand Warlock Familiar Renny D’Vaire. Seeking answers as to how he's arrived in Arizona, Rorie creates a spell which pulls the entire D'Vaire family into a dream where they explore the Fae realm during the last days of the Fae. It's kind of fanciful. Even for a paranormal novel. A sweet story.
As all the stories in this series, it’s exciting to have another piece of the grand puzzle, and this one adds several pieces. However, there were times that this installment really dragged…. I think if the one chapter involving the goddesses was instead broken up over time as things happening or were learned, it would have made the overall impact more engaging. So, I guess hang in there, it doesn’t get better exactly, but it does come to a conclusion.
I absolutely love all of the Devaire books. The world building is fantastic though this one is different as it takes place mostly on the Far realm. Can't wait for the next book, hopefully Worth or the Noble protecter.
Renny gets his HEA! This was a totally wonderful new adventure in the series. In a different realm Renny and Rorie find love, adventure, intrigue and we hear from a couple of goddesses. Loved it! Highly recommended
I have always loved this series but this one takes it up a notch. I was blown away by this story. Well written with kick ass characters. I am so looking forward to what comes next.
This is book 21 in the D’Vaire series, it should be read in order but you can read it as a standalone. I actually read book 19 first and it was so good I read the rest of the series in order after and I don’t regret it. I also understood the characters and storyline better and made me appreciate them more. So if you haven’t read the previous books, stop reading this review and go start them now!
The vivid language instantly transported me into the world of D’Vaire.
Renny and Rorie’s story was exhilarating, nostalgic, jaw dropping and all round amazing! That plot twist left me completely in shock and awe.
As always the writing is amazing; it's descriptive to the point that you can smell, hear and taste. Just pure magic with every page.
Jessamyn Kingley has truly created an outstanding world that is addictive. Renny and Rorie’s story answers so many questions and also makes so many more; while being interesting throughout and ending perfectly. I loved the mating ceremony - as always - and look forward to many more!
After rereading I now understand why I was disappointed the first time I read Renny's book. Like another reader stated this isn't the same character we've been reading for 20 books. Rorie is the biggest disappointment in a mate in the 40 books currently published. Renny basically mated a toddler version of himself from pervious books in fae form. Being less mature than Pyx isn't a cute personality quirk. I always pictured Renny to have a mate who has an extremely dark and tragic past. Who needed someone like old Renny to bring hope, light and love into his life. Not a toddler in a onesie.
This book was totally stupid.. The whole dream thing was stupid.., I did not finish I stopped at like 80%.... I didn’t even care what happened at the end it was just so dumb and unnecessary... I wanted Renny to have a good book and mate .. I was so disappointed .. Renny wasn’t even the same Renny from past books... this is the first book out of the Devair series that I just did not like... total waste!!!!
