Bridge Engineering: A text for civil engineering students studying bridge design

Rate this book
Bridge Engineering is for civil engineering students studying bridge design at masters level (but students at any level will find it useful). It was originally written for the module of the same name, which forms part of the MSc Structural Engineering degree at The University of Salford, UK. The module is designed around an assessment which mirrors the Institution of Structural Engineers Chartered Membership Examination - an open book six hour design examination, in which students must take a client brief, sketch two distinct and viable structural forms, select appropriate materials, quantitatively and qualitatively compare the schemes and select one, identify durability problems and mitigations, load the deck, analyse the structure and design structural elements. The text addresses bridge concepts including moving bridges; deck loading and analysis, element design in steel, reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete and masonry; arch bridges; integral bridges; box girders; long span bridges; material durability and condition assessment; temporary works. This publication is in metric.
