When Casey Carpenter receives a call to go back to her small hometown to be with her dying father, the last thing she’s expecting is that he’s hired a contractor to work on the family marina—she handles her father’s expenses, and Nathanial Kipling doesn’t show up in them. The situation is fishy. It’s only once she’s back home, only once she meets Nate and discovers he’s struck a deal with her father to renovate and sell Jessie’s Point, that she realizes the decision has already been made without her. All that’s left to do is help them—at least then she’ll feel like she had a say in the matter. To Nate, her helping out is about the worst outcome he could have expected. Casey—with her big, sad eyes, whiplash smile, and piss-poor attitude—is too much of a distraction. Somehow, he knows that becoming entangled with her isn’t going to work out for him, for either of them. Still, how could he say no? If Jessie’s Point is going to sell, shouldn’t she have a chance to say goodbye? But as Casey’s father slowly fades, and as she and Nate work together to repair Jessie’s Point, it becomes painstakingly clear that the marina isn’t the only thing she doesn’t know how to say goodbye to. Will Casey be able to let go of the past and forgive her father? Will she be able to stay in Dungeness Hollow through to the end? And what happens after? Can new beginnings survive the worst possible endings?
Tess was born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe. Her unusual childhood in a beautiful but tragic country was responsible for her deep love of everything fantastical and magical—including romance. When her thirst for adventures and travel brought her to California for university, she happened to meet her very own Mr. Darcy (slightly taciturn and all). Tess now lives with her husband in California, and when she’s not elbow-deep in some topsy-turvy world of her own creation, she can be found working out, meeting her friends for drinks (sometimes, after working out), and alternately binge-watching soppy rom-coms and Criminal Minds with her dogs, Teddy and Winnie.
“You filled a hole in me that I didn’t know was there. And when you go, it’ll be worse because now I’ll know that it’s empty.”
‘Jessie’s Point’ is about Casey and her journey to let go of past hurt caused by losing not only her mother to illness but her father who mentally checked out after losing the love of his life. She’s called back to her hometown after learning that her father is dying and she hopes they can finally make amends. But ends up finding more than she bargained for.
I loved this book! I loved the small town setting and feel with old hangouts, meddling neighbors & memories, some good, some bad at every turn. Casey was a likable, relatable character. She buried her hurt in work and smiles hoping no one would see the fractures she tries to hide. Her strained relationship with her father is made even worse, when she not only finds out he is dying, but that he plans to sell the marina that was named after her mother and where she grew up.
Enter Nate who is the contractor hired by Casey’s dad to get the place up and running to be sold. She doesn’t want to like the guy but with his easy smiles and kindness she knows she’s in trouble. Friends with benefits ensues but we all know nothing is ever that simple when feelings are involved. I loved the chemistry between these two. You could feel the genuine like of each other and not just sexually. They teased, flirted and came to trust each other. And can we talk about that grand, unconventional gesture for love please? Total swoon!
This review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Casey’s best friends and soul sisters, Meg and Mary-Ann. I loved these girls. One is shy, and deals with something that has been holding her back. And the other is bold, loud and unapologetic. They were what true friends are made of and I adored seeing the bond these three women had. I am so excited for their stories to be told.
So if my review alone hasn’t convinced you to give ‘Jessie’s Point’ a try let me tell you what you’ll find in this book:
-Small town setting -Friends to lovers -Cinnamon roll hero -Women supporting women -Multiple POVS -Open door scenes
TW: Loss of a parent, cancer, abandonment
Thank you to Ms. Shepherd for sending me a digital arc for an honest review. You have a new fan & I can’t wait for more from this series. 4 Stars!
Another fantastic book by this author, hard to believe Jessie’s Point is her third book. Her cover choices always pull me in, but her words and the way she tugs at my emotions will keep me reading. Her gift to keep her writing fresh with each story has me a reader forever.
I read this book in one afternoon. I love small towns and the relationships they create: Casey and her sisters by choice, Her father, Nate, and her neighbors in town. As with her previous books her characters have depth and pull you in. Her visuals created make you part of the experience.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Jessie’s Point is a wonderful romantic drama that is full of emotion, love and unexpected second chances. I loved these characters and how much depth they each had. It’s hard to believe that this is only the third published book by Tess Shepherd. I found myself immersed in this story and before I knew it, I read the entire book in one night. I am so looking forward to the other books in this series!
I loved it! This story is full of heart and characters that you empathize with, root for, and want to be friends with. I absolutely LOVED the relationship between Casey and her “sister” friends and I would like to know more about Meg (hint, hint Tess). I definitely went thru a roller coaster of emotions from laughing out loud to swooning and to even shedding a few tears. Of course, the best part was Casey and Nate’s journey. Tess Shepherd did a fantastic job and I can’t wait for the sequel!

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
[I received a digital arc for an honest review] Jessie's Point is the first book in a new series by Tess Shepherd called Dungeness Hollow. This is a lovely romance with a small town feel and strong characters.
Ever since Casey's mother died when she was young her father never recovered, and she practically raised herself. Even though their relationship is strained she runs back to her hometown of Dungeness Hollow when she hears he's dying. She arrives home to a stranger named Nate repairing both her family home and family marina and is devastated that her father has decided to sell the last part of her mother they have left. She will attempt to mend her relationship with her father in the little time he has left. Furthermore, she will have to deal with growing feelings for Nate that she tries to keep casual since her life isn't in Dungeness Hollow anymore. "Nathaniel Kipling made her uncomfortable. He looked at her as if he saw her."
Casey and Nate, and all their friends, are wonderful characters. Casey is headstrong and underneath all her attitude is a sensitive little girl who lacked a nurturing childhood. Nate is just a big old softy right from the start. He was so charming and such a gentleman. While Casey decides they should have some no strings attached fun, Nate knows from the start he wants to know everything he can about her no matter how long they have together. Their relationship is lighthearted and honest and put a smile on my face. Like all of Tess Shepherds couples the intimacy between them is full of passion and steam. I also HAVE to add that the grand gesture/ declaration of Nate’s feelings at the end was quality and left me chuckling. :) "She grinned, and he leaned down to wipe the smirk from her face with a kiss that drowned her in its intensity."
As always I loved Tess Shepherd's writing, it really flows and her characters and setting are always so easy to imagine. She tends to always include random point of views outside of the two main characters. It shows that the people around them can see their connection. However, in this, at one point there's back and forth POV between two side characters that doesn't add to Nate and Casey's story. It fully set up what I'm guessing is book 2 and completely took me out of the main story line. I mean I enjoyed the characters it was focusing on, and I would have loved to see the scenes just not in this book, they didn't feel like they belonged. The other thing that didn't work personally for me was the climax to Casey and her father's arc. He seems from his POV chapters to want to make amends after she finally confronts him but in the end only makes excuses for his behavior.
I really love the idea of the Dungeness Hollow series. Three best friends who are different in so many ways but have always been there for each other through thick and thin. I am really excited for the other friends' books.
Jessie’s Point by Tess Shepherd is book 1 in the Dungeness Hollow Series, it is a small town romance. Casey Carpenter lost her mother to cancer at a young age and subsequently lost both her parents in one fell sweep. As an adult, Casey lives and works in San Francisco; she receives a disturbing call about her father’s health abruptly returning to her childhood home. Casey has her best friends and the town of Dungeness Hollow to help her deal with the unpleasant memories associated with her childhood hometown.
I cannot express how much I loved this book! It was emotional, gut-wrenching, and an all-around fantastic read. I could not put this small-town romance down. This was a beautiful story not just about finding love, but about loss, grief, family, and hard goodbyes. This book had realistically, flawed characters with imperfections and I absolutely adored them. This is mainly Casey and Nate’s journey to finding love, but we get a glimpse into so many wonderful characters and I can’t wait until we get a chance to see their stories unfold.
This book is written from the third point of view and while I don’t primarily enjoy reading the third person, Jessie’s point is well written and evokes a flurry of emotions. I laughed, cried, and had a smile while reading. The books that provoke emotions are, in my opinion, some of the best. I HIGHLY recommend this book, it took me on a rollercoaster of emotions, and I was hooked from the first chapter. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
(I was given an ARC of this book and promised to give an honest review.)
Oh. My. Word. Y’all! Tess Shepherd hit it out of the PARK with Jessie’s Point. Out. Of. The. Park.
I don’t want to give too much away, since this book isn’t out yet. Here is a list of my favorite elements of the storytelling found in this one:
1. The way this book reads like a TV series, wherein you get to see what ALL the characters are doing / thinking, not just the main love interests. I very much got sucked into this and binge read it, which is astounding because I can rarely binge read an e-book they way I can a physical book.
2. Stories are not held off until the next book just because this one is about Casey and Nate. Things happen in “real time.” We don’t have to wait on the next book to see other characters’ development.
3. The humor sprinkled throughout. I LOVE humor in romance because there is humor in life and love in the real world.
I cannot wait for the rest of this series because I am so invested in the lives of literally every single character in this book. I am preordering this one today, even though I have already read it because I need it on my shelf. I *highly* recommend you do the same. ☺️
This is the first book in the Dungeness Hollow series by Tess Shepherd.
I think the community stood out here a little more than her other series. I can see myself diving into another book in this series easily and know who I’m talking about. The first book in her other series, City of Dreams, Lola and Jacob were the only ones I really resonated with.
In this story we have a gal named Casey who is called back to her hometown due to her father being on deaths door. Their relationship is pretty complicated. When her mother died when she was eight, her dad kind of mentally checked out and she had to be taken care of my neighbors.
She comes home to find a man named Nate fixing up the area called Jessie’s Point which has become very unkempt and desolate over the years.
The story really sucks you in and makes you want to find out how they solve all these problems they are dealing with. The cast is great in this one and I look forward to any new books that come out by this author.
If you love a good romance with a tinge of mystery, definitely check this one out.
I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.
This month has seemed to be romance reads month for me and this book did not disappoint! A workaholic making her way back to her sweet, small hometown where everyone knows everyone. Three forever friends that have kept in touch no matter the years. A family whose dynamics changed years agao when Casey lost her mother. And a new contractor in town whose motives seem unclear. This felt like a lifetime or hallmark movie taking place in my head and I was 💯 here for it!
Overall this was a very sweet story. I loved the dynamics of the friendships and the romances and that the story was about so much more than just the romance. Although Casey and Nate we’re definitely main characters in this book, I really enjoyed getting to know the other characters as well and left me wanting to know and learn more! I definitely appreciated how Casey is an independent woman and runs her own business. Cheers to boss ladies!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Ok back on track.. The images of Jessie’s point were in my head all a long and made me wish I could visit there! I was engaged in the storyline the entire time. A little romance. A little friendship. A little steam. A little adventure. A little family drama. I am so excited that this is a series and can’t wait for the next one!
⠀ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⠀ ⠀ I loved every single second of it. It was full everything you could imagine love, forgiveness, second chances, healing, sadness, loss, grief and friendship. I felt each and every emotion throughout reading, it pulled on my heartstrings at one point and had me laughing out loud the next. Every character was likeable and were so well written that you genuinely felt like you knew them . I absolutely adored the relationship Casey had with her friends, in life you don’t need a lot of friends, just true ones and you could totally feel that with this book. I loved the setting being in a small town, it reminded me of a hallmark film, which I’d totally love to see this series become. ⠀ ⠀ I highly recommend anyone that hasn’t already, please get yourself a copy, you will not be disappointed. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
Jessie's point is the perfect place to live. I do not understand why somebody would left. And I get the answer. But hopefully that channge. And all get to its place. I love the friendship between the girls and also boys. And story that ends positive for everybody. Ok still open possibilities for others caracters and I will read the sequels for sure. The perfect Sunday's read.
A lovely small town romance with lots of emotion. I really enjoyed this and read it in one sitting , it’s not just romance though, it’s a story about family and home. Perfect read to make you feel warm.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Somehow, and even through her brittle temper and poor attitude, Nathanial Kipling had seen that she was hurting, and he had apologized for having a part in it.”
What You’ll Find: ✔️Small Town Romance ✔️Enemies to Lovers ✔️Cinnamon Roll Hero ✔️Women’s Fiction Feel ✔️Multiple, Third Person POV
Jessie’s Point by Tess Shepherd is a wonderful story of love, letting go and forgiveness. Set in a beautiful picturesque small town marina, this story has all the feels.
Casey learns that he father is dying and rushes home. There she finds the once neglected marina she grew up on, is being renovated by a stranger, though a handsome one named Nate. Not until she’s home, does she realize that her father has struck a deal to sell the marina once the renovation is complete. She does the only thing she can, she’s helps Nate, in hopes it will help her say goodbye to her childhood home. Only working side by side with Nate, leads to so much more.
This is my first read by this author and I enjoyed it. While I liked Casey, she drove me a bit crazy at times too. It was mostly her story and I wanted more Nate. Because Nate, I adored him. He’s strong, sweet and dependable. The cinnamon roll, dependable, guy next door type. And while these two don’t start off on the right foot, the chemistry takes no time to form. I honestly wanted more of them.
This story isn’t just about the romance between the two of them. It’s about family and Casey’s sisterhood with her best friends. Those female friendships were fierce and one of my favourite parts about this story! The great cast of characters was so enjoyable. So many of them I want their stories told now.
This story is told in multiple POV which I generally enjoy! Though this was told in third person, which is not my favourite, and I do feel had a bit of an impact on keeping me from loving this story. Overall an enjoyable read that felt more women’s fiction to me, but one I think many will enjoy! And it’s out now!
CW/TW: Cancer, Parental Neglect, Death of a Parent
Thank you to the author for the eARC via @netgalley for my honest review.
Casey Carpenter has moved her life from Dungeness Hollow to San Francisco where she has her own architecture firm. A call from best friend Mary-Ann delivers news that Casey needs to return to her hometown to be with her dying father. However, it appears things have changed in 10 years and her father has made some pretty important decisions without consulting Casey. Tim Carpenter has hired contractor Nathaniel Kipling to work on the families Marina-Jessie’s Point, the namesake of Casey’s mum and Tim’s late wife.
Despite their differences, Casey decides to help Nate renovate Jessie’s Point, preparing it to be sold. This unsettling decision causes Casey to be prepared to leave a major part of her past behind and in the process create more difficult choices. Can Casey forgive her father? A casual agreement is decided between Nate and Casey, which starts to blossom into more but will this be a temporary fix?
As I stated at the start of this review, I was very VERY excited to receive this ARC. I have adored Shepherd’s previous works The Fire Drill and Public Trust, now Jessie’s Point is proudly added to this list. I expect nothing less than to fall in love with Shepherd’s writing, and Dungeness Hollow provided my next escape. I was transported to a beautiful world, with remarkable characters and an original, romantic storyline. I must also mention how stunning the artwork is of this front cover. Like all Shepherd’s previous novels, the cover is breathtakingly beautiful, automatically captivating readers. The prologue of Jessie’s Point is also evidence of immediate engagement. I was instantly drawn to Casey and couldn’t wait to see her story unfold. What I commend the most with Shepherd is her fantastic ability to write real and intriguing characters. The three best friends have such a beautiful connection and truly are more like sisters. The sister code at the beginning of the novel was a great introduction to the trio.
All the characters differ and provide a fascinating read. I especially enjoyed reading Mary-Ann’s development throughout the story. I enjoyed how the third person narrative focused on multiple characters. This was executed perfectly as the central attention on Casey and Nate was not overshadowed or lost by further exploration of secondary characters. Instead, it aided the plot and allowed it to progress at a realistic rate. The narrative mainly follows Casey and Nate, providing equal attention and conveys an omniscient feeling. The reader will truly feel like they are in Dungeness Hollow and have a close connection to the characters. Within the narration there are insights into Casey’s thoughts, providing an honest and intimate account, further enchanting the reader.
There is strong attention to detail with the description to match the traits of the characters honestly. With Casey, her architectural mind is not forgotten, similarly to Nate’s carpentry, proving humorous element and creates a fully authentic read. The description of the setting was equally incredible, especially the marina. These scenes provide a lovely atmosphere and the calms the reader and characters equally.
The theme of love is romantically and seriously explored. The heartbreaking account of Tim, inconsolable from the loss of his wife displays a powerful type of love. Their love was immensely strong, causing Tim to lose touch with life after she is gone. From Casey’s perspective, this can be viewed as selfish, as the neglect shaped her childhood. This allowed for a truthful experience to be explored and Shepherd conveys this marvellously. My thoughts were challenged throughout, but were eventually concluded as the plot progresses.
Casey was certainly my favourite character! Shepherd writes outstanding female protagonists and Casey was no exception. I found her relatable, determined, and strong willed. She sticks to what she believes in, while also proving to be adaptable showcasing a strong, independent character. I particularly enjoyed the discussion over her tattoos. I found this most relatable and funny, especially Berty’s oath with Casey: ‘One limb sacrifice to the god of art’ – I’m going to have to offer this to my family to persuade them to accept me having more. The romance between Casey and Nate was heartwarming and unpredictable, especially with the outcome.
Overall, Shepherd will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions and transport you to a beautiful world. Dungeness Hollow sounds like a wonderful place and I would love to be able to spend an evening with these characters. I will have to reread this and patiently look forward to Spring Tide! Without a doubt, I rate this book 5 stars and will recommend to all fans of romance.
Jessie’s Point is the first book in Tess Shepherd’s Dungeness Hollow series. This read is the first time that I have read a Tess Shepherd novel, and going into it as a blind read I was eager to see how this new reading venture panned out. Want to find out? Keep on reading!
*Warning* - As this read is now out, I will be dropping a few possible spoilers (although no major plot reveals or events), if you want to go into this based of the summary/blurb alone, stop reading my review from this point.
By the cover alone, if you’re not one to read a summary/blurb before chancing on a book, you would think that the main character in this read is called Jessie. What Tess cleverly does here, is provides a call-to-action for a discover, an adventure if you will, as to what link ‘Jessie’ and what her ‘point’ has to do with the story. If you DO read summaries/blurbs, you’ll discover that this is a place, Jessie’s Point. Point referring to a particular spot but the fact still remains, who is ‘Jessie?’. That, dear readers, you’ll discover as you get to know the main character, Casey, and her backstory.
Casey is called back home to Dungeness Hollow upon hearing the news that her father was terminal and would sadly pass away. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t rooting for a happy ending, as I’m a closeted optimist but that said, the way in which we journeyed to the conclusion was executed so brilliantly that I couldn’t be mad at an author for removing a character while making you grab for some tissues. I don’t often like when real-life, heart-wrenching issues and/or scenes are written about, but here I made an exception to my rule.
Following Casey’s return to her childhood hometown and subsequently her childhood home itself, we’re introduced to a plethora of colourful, varied and diverse characters which in itself create a family for a character who’s truly never experienced the love and warmth of one from a young age. Including one very caring, loving, outgoing gentleman by the name of Nate. Men certainly don’t come along like him everyday, Tess wrote a superb leading man in him whom I know you’ll love as much as I did.
In particular, one of the characters from the group outside to the main characters became a firm favourite of mine to read about, Hayes. You’ll get to meet him and you’ll know exactly why at this moment in time, I’m looking forward to the next book in the series featuring him and another one of the DH group.
The story itself is one we at all some point can relate to, adding into that the element of realism that sometimes escapes fiction books, what with the freedom to write about anything and everything. This can be in one of many ways, not wanting to get into a relationship, facing your past, coming to terms with the inevitable, there’s something in this story that will personally attach itself to us and make us feel like we’re part of the story, not just reading about it. This is a touch I like in books, and to me is the mark of a great writer and author.
My only criticism if you can even call it one, is the epilogue. Where there is nothing wrong with it as it finishes the story off nicely while teasing at the next book, I wished there had been more. I’m a sucker for a really good epilogue that perhaps is almost like a bonus chapter, a little desert to the main course, and this novel was a joy to read through, I simply wanted more, more more. As much as Tess could possibly give us.
Until the next book in the series is out, I highly recommend that you take a chance on Jessie’s Point. You might find yourself wanting to stick around like Nate.
I was kindly given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I don't read a lot of romance, but when I do I tend to enjoy the escapism that they provide. Jessie's Point by Tess Shepherd was no different - it was enjoyable. Boy meets girl, they fall in love, overcome obstacles and end up together.
For the most part, it's a light-hearted read. Casey is a strong character and I liked that she wasn't your typical 'girl next door' and had a bit of gumption. Her and Nate's chemistry was good, but there was almost too much focus on their relationship, to the detriment of other - more interesting - characters. The side characters could have been expanded on, but this may occur in the subsequent books; Meg didn't feature as much as I'd have liked, but I'm sure she and Mary will get more time as the series progresses. The trio's friendship runs deep, so hearing more about their childhood escapades would be great.
There is also less sex than I was expecting. That said, those that took place were full of passion and need and weren't cheesy or unrealistic. I also enjoyed the sex that never was between Hayes and Mary, who were super cute together. Some of the sexual descriptions could have been phrased better, but overall it was believable and well done.
However, I felt like this book could have done with a little more substance. I would have liked to hear more about Casey's mother and the refurbishment of the marina itself. Shepherd wove a little romance into the marina of her childhood, but I would have liked to really 'see' it before it fell into disrepair. Casey's father had never recovered from her mother's death and again, hearing more about their relationship would have provided a bit more context. It would also help readers to feel more of a connection to Dungeness Hollow and understand what it is that draws people away from the cities to live there.
Although it wasn't as fast-paced as I would have liked, it did have a delicate charm and I enjoyed the natural humour that came out within the characters' relationships. Parts of it were incredibly moving and I think that capturing emotions is one of the author's strong points. I look forward to seeing the author develop the story and characters in the next books.
When Casey Carpenter hears her father, Tim, is ill and dying, she returns home to the small Pacific Northwest town of Dungeness Hollow. Her relationship with her dad has been strained ever since Casey's mother passed away twenty years ago, and now their relationship is under more stress as he intends to sell the marina that was her childhood home. Nate Kipling is a local contractor helping Tim fix up the marina. What starts as an antagonistic relationship between Nate and Casey blossoms into an attraction and partnership to bring the marina back to life. And suddenly Casey's got a lot to hold onto in Dungeness Hollow.
What a beautiful story! I cried and sobbed, I laughed, I swooned, I went through a full roller coaster of emotions with these characters and a day after finishing this I already missed them. I loved all the complex relationships in this book, between Casey and her lifelong "sister" friends Mary-Ann and Meg, her dad, Nate, and the town. There are so many layers to each relationship and unweaving those really pulls you into the story. The storyline is captivating and I easily read this in 2 or 3 sittings. I know this part of the world, the Olympic Peninsula, really, really well and Tess did a fantastic job describing it - I could see it, hear it, smell it - it smells so briny by the way! Her little details were perfect. This is mainly Casey’s story but there are multiple third person POVs which I enjoyed to get all the perspectives and it sets up well for the sequel. I can't wait to read the next in this series and head back to Dungeness Hollow!
Thank you to Tess Shepherd and NetGalley for the advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The lead characters sexual tension? Unparalleled. The straightforward no bullshit, attitude of the lead female character? Incredible. I was hooked in every direction! The girly group chats and interactions between besties were far too familiar to those I’ve had with my own friends and it was both entertaining and endearing to see that side of Tess’ writing. It also made me text every single one of my friends to tell them I missed them and how much I valued our lengthy friendships.
The way Tess managed to blossom one love story whilst casually popping in another, with 2 of the most unlikely of people, honestly I cannot even begin to describe how much I just did not want to put this book down. The emotional times mentioned (no spoilers) in here from start to finish absolutely brought me to tears at times and then agreements (again no spoilers) more towards to end had me on absolute fits of laughter, because let’s be honest here, every girl wants a ‘Nate’. His genuine want and need to just get to know Casey above all else tugged on my heart strings from the moment she came back to Jessie’s Point, and now I have to wait a whole year to a continue their story, although the cheeky teaser at the end was a big yes from me.
My only 2 questions for you Tess are; what is Mary-Ann’s secret and how did Hayes get his scar? It has been these 2 that have haunted me since I picked up this copy and my mind will not rest until I have answers.
Incredibly done Tess, I am continuously amazed by your writing and I’m glad to be along for the ride.
‘Can new beginnings survive the worst possible endings?’
This book was exactly what I needed when I needed it.
I honestly didn’t realise how many emotions I would endure during this read.
I truly resonated with Casey’s character she was so relatable and a curious one to follow. I couldn’t help but mimic her reactions every time something happened in the book. I also have to give props to Nate he is wonderfully written and a straight shooter at what he wants but for once I felt such a love for a male character with such an honest heart and true intentions. This dynamic had me from the get-go and I can’t wait for more.
But not only are you greeted with sparks flying and steam burning but you are completely thrown in the deep end with family trauma, fierce friendships & the harsh realities that life brings. Did I cry? Of course, I did. Because Tess Shepherd deeply understands her characters and how they interact with one another and the situations they entail.
Yes, I was looking for a romance read after a month of fantasy. But what I got was so much more I just fell into this book wanting to know more about the characters intentions and the futures they entail. I didn’t feel rushed in this book I enjoyed going through the paces with Casey & Nate - Tim - The Sisterhood - And Dungeness Hollow. And the hard-hitting healing that is portrayed in the life encompassing way it should be.
I love it, love it, love it! Tess has completely taken my heart and given it life in this new series. You never truly realize how invested you become in characters until you close a book and you get a little misty eyed that its over.
This novel is packed full of family, the bonds we create with friends and some pretty adorable scenes. I laughed a lot more than I expected and I legit eye-dabbed too. Which I might be a goober, but I typically can hold strong the majority of the time I like to think. Tess got me though and got me hard.
Tough topics surrounding cancer and loss are woven with a mixture of healing and hope with a writing style that kept me engaged and not wanting to put it down. I am in love with the plot, the town and all of the unique POVs of characters big and small that grace this story. I truly cannot say it enough. And no worries, Tess is fantastic at creating smooth flowing and well distinguished multiple POVs that keep you engrossed and never confused.
I also recommend not getting too many details. The synopsis is the perfect drop to wet your reader appetite and then dive in and be ready to feel that heart grow ten times bigger. Also, lets not forget the swooning! If you are a lover of romance, humor, second chances and swoon than what are you waiting for!!!
Thank you to Tess Shepherd for this gifted DRC in exchange for an honest review. I cannot wait to see what book two has in store!!
Small town romance is one of those tropes I’ve been on the fence about. I’ve loved some, I’ve not liked more. Without a doubt, Jessie’s Point falls in the loved category! I’ve been impressed and have enjoyed Tess’s first two published books but Jessie’s Point hands down is my favorite of her first 3 books! ♡︎ Casey Carpenter is returning home to Dungeness Hollow to be with her dying father in his final months of life. The relationship has been non-existent between the two ever since her mother died years ago. Since then, her father has been a shell of his former self - giving into deep grief and depression and abandoning his responsibilities as a parent and as the owner of the once beautiful & popular marina, Jessie’s Point. Casey comes home to find more than she anticipated - including a handsome carpenter who is working to fix up the marina to sell. It’s a heartfelt story about forgiveness, love and loss that I just couldn’t put down! ♡︎ If you’re a fan of small town Hallmark movies but want a little more spice to it, pick this one up when it releases on April 3rd! ♡︎ I did receive an ARC from Tess but all opinions and thoughts are my own!
. First off thank you to @author_tess.shepherd for sending me this ARC of your newest novel! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and loving that it’s part of a series! Very excited for the next books! . . This book has many characters to fall in love with for all their different personalities. I loved the relationships Casey had with her “sisters”. They truly are great friends and always looking out for each other. Having friends like those help you most through life’s hardships. . . This was a great story with romance, adventure, and heartache. It truly dives into all things that happen in life and how one chooses to deal with the with their closest family and friends. . . The multiple charters led to multiple relationships throughout the story. Casey and Nates is a steamy romance full with love and respect for each other. Finding each other during the most difficult time in Casey’s life should make their relationship stronger. I am excited to see where their relationship goes in the rest of the series.
First off I received this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is my second book by this author and I was not disappointed! Wow can she write some steamy scenes!
We follow Casey as she goes back to her hometown to spend time with her father. We get her backstory, and also get to know her awesome friends. The characters are so well developed, that I felt invested in their stories.
Casey’s father is sick, and is planning to sell Jessie’s Point but Casey doesn’t want that. She meets Nate who is someone that is helping her father fix up Jessie’s Point. Casey doesn’t trust Nate, but that quickly changes as she gets to know him better.
This is a really cute, and fun romance. What I love about this author is that she develops all of the characters, and lets the reader get invested in each individual character. I am so looking forward to the sequel so I can learn more about Casey’s friends!
If you love romance I definitely recommend you pick this one up!
This is the third book that I have read by Tess, and yet again I wasn’t disappointed!
This is slightly different to her previous books, but I still absolutely loved it.
It’s an emotional rollercoaster ride. I laughed, she’d a tear or two and my the end I was so emotionally invested in these characters.
One of my favourite aspects of this book is the character relationships. The ‘sisters’ friendship and bond is something beautiful - and the agreement at the beginning is definitely a highlight for me!
Casey and Nate’s relationship was also perfectly written. I loved their dynamic and how their relationship flourished.
This is definitely an emotional story, which at points makes difficult reading due to the subject matter (TW: cancer) however Tess writes it well.
The character development of Casey is amazing and I loved being a part of her journey. I cannot wait for the rest of this series!
This is my new favorite book by Tess!! I loved this one so much, and I I so glad this will be a series! I fell in love with this town and the people in it!
This is such a sweet romance novel that explores love through family, friends and romantic partners. This story was told from multiple POVs, and I absolutely loved that! You were able to see from the mind of some of the minor characters.
This was written so well and was funny, sweet, and heartbreaking. I recommend not reading this in public because I was hiding my tears on an airplane 3/4ths of the way through this book! This was a super quick read, and I cannot wait for Spring Tide: Dungeness Hollow Part 2!!
Thank you Tess for my early copy!!
If you haven't read any of Tess's other books I highly recommend those as well! The Fire Drill and Public Trust are out now!!
Synopsis: After Casey’s mom pases away at a young age she just moves through life. Her dad, Tim never really lived after that. Casey is fortunate to have her best friends who were there with her and every day after. After she moves away after college an unexpected emergency brings her back to her hometown and all of her memories of her mother passing away are brought back to the surface.
Thought: I really enjoyed this book. I think it was the perfect mix of real life and romance. It showed that just because we haven't been loved in the way that maybe we should have before that we aren't deserving or incapable of feeling that love. I think that this book was well written and I really enjoyed all the characters in the books and the different struggles that they faced. I can’t wait for the next book in the series to definitely be added to my preorder list.
It is the first book in the Dungeness Hollow series. And I must say, the author’s writing gets better by each book! I binge read it and finished it in a few sittings! It’s so addictive. I laughed, felt angry and once a tear slipped (I can’t tell you when because it’s a spoiler). It is a big deal that a tear slipped because I’ve never cried while reading books and very rarely a few tears slip. But don’t think I’m heartless because I feel really sad and heartbroken but I just don’t cry.
I felt sad reading about Casey’s childhood and how Casey has lived her life. I wish she can be happier now. I want to know more about Meghan because she is a bit… umm… oblivious to things around her, I guess or is she acting? I don’t know but I’d like to see more of her in the sequel since she wasn’t around a lot in this book. I hope she opens her eyes and see things in front of her in the sequel.
How is it possible that every Tess book just keeps getting better and better?
Jessie’s Point gives you the feels from the very beginning. As a reader, I was immediately transported into Jessie’s Point and Dungeness Hollow and fell in love with all of the characters. Think: Stars Hollow on Gilmore Girls. That’s the kind of immersive town Tess paints for us. It’s beautiful, y’all. I NEED this series as a TV show.
One of my favorite things about this story is that we don’t just get Casey and Nate’s story. We get more than a glimpse at Casey’s best friends too (which set us up for those future books!) and the many unique faces of the Point.
Jessie’s Point will make you laugh, cry, and leave you wanting more. 10/10 recommend!
