Mate Tracker #2

The Tracker’s Secret

Rate this book
Everything has changed. I’m a Skew, a supernatural, but what type?

Ten days ago, Jacob Knight waltzed back into my life and screwed it all up. Still, I helped him track the heir of a powerful werewolf family, and that was a win, but now I don’t know which way is up.

My reality has shifted, pun intended. I’m not who I thought I was, and the changes are more than I can handle. As if that wasn’t enough, a new drug is ravaging my city, including the customers at my mate tracking agency. What gives?

So as I try to come to terms with my new identity and I hide my new secret from the man I love, the world around me bursts into chaos, and I find myself in the middle of a wide conspiracy where alliances are broken and the things I hold dear and true to my heart turn out to be nothing but lies.

Will my secret destroy my change of normalcy and happiness with Jake?

I was totally on board with Toni's secret from the end of the last book. I loved the side effects of her power. I felt it spiced up the book. I like the book mystery and the almost resolution. Let's face it, it was more of a cliffhanger. Nothing is truly all the way resolved.

What I disliked most in this book the most was Toni and Jakes relationship. I do not understand it and it is a big center piece of the story. Jake is 100% awful. To him, it is ok to date other women and get married and sleep with Toni. He is all about the cake and ice cream too. With all Toni's huffing and puffing, she is more than willing to fall in bed with him knowing he will be with another women. She even saw him on a date. I felt that if she walked in and he was doing the dirty, with another girl, she would still have slept with him an hour later without him taking a shower. No backbone.

I also dislike her "I will refund money or I won't take the money" attitude. I know this one is different, but it bothered me. When someone does a job, they get paid for it. Her feeling responsible for things that can be easily seen as not her fault, got on my nerves. The girl is already living outside her means.

Finally, I didn't like her type of name calling. I totally agree, why she is sometimes mad. I stand behind her not talking to her mother, but some lines you do not cross as an adult.

I was definitely disappointed after the stellar start.

how dare you leave the book on that cliffhanger and expect to wait until APRIL???
wut.
ugh.

It was a really good development for the next book, the mysteries are nice to read the Toni is a extremely likeable main character. Little miffed at how slow the romance is taking, and I really hope there isn't going to be a love triangle.

Not what I was expecting

I didn't care for this second book. I'm just confused on Toni?what is wrong with this girl? She's a complete basket case and nothing like herself from the first book. Now we get new details and she gets the surprise of her life. But she handles it all like a child throwing the ultimate tantrum of all time. She hates that she's a wolf, doesn't want to face reality. But why? Why hide it? Why not embrace what you are and kicka*** figuring it out? The Toni from book one was nowhere near this weak. And I just ended up rolling my eyes and being really let down with toni's new sad attitude. How do you fall for wolf's all the time, but can't stand being one? Toni was just a sad coward with a tstl vibe going that I just was overly done with this book before it even started. And I was so over how she kept thinking, "I'm finally what Jake needs! Like finally falling into the little box he needed her to be in. I didn't want her with Jake before, I don't even want them together now. I think he is the worse person in book bf history. There is no redemption for this guy, I'm srry, but his hot, cold, pretty much making himself feel better once in a while then dumping her like a new born baby giraffe when he gets his little fix. I was so tired of Toni depression for this man's affection. It made her look weak and just down right sad. I wish our H talked more with her wolf, learned more, found a balance? But she was just a sad women child with barley there sense. Won't be finishing this series.

Toni’s whole world has come crashing down. Not only has her mother been lying to her her entire life but with the help of the powerful mage, Damien Ward, she has been responsible for suppressing Toni’s shifter abilities. Devastated by the knowledge that the man she thought of as her father was anything but, Toni refuses to listen to her mother’s explanation.

Despite her anger at him, Toni swallows her pride and seeks advice from Damien Ward. He’s concerned however that Toni has no memory of her first shift.

“This won’t be easy, but you’ll have to learn to control it. You need someone of your own kind to teach you. Do you have someone?”

Toni’s initial thoughts turn to Jake. As a werewolf, she should now be free to be with him. Unfortunately Jake needs a strong and able mate who will carry on his father’s legacy. Toni doesn’t feel capable or ready to be a ‘puppy factory.’

Damien calls in a favour with a werewolf by the name of Eric Cross in the hopes that he will help Toni to connect with her wolf. Unfortunately Eric suspects that Damien’s spells over the years have repressed her wolf, leaving her broken beyond repair. Through a series of gruelling sessions with Eric, Toni attempts to control her shift so that she won’t be a danger to those around her.

Meanwhile a new drug is ravaging the city. The drug is particularly deadly to vampires who find it irresistible. A client of Toni’s mate tracking agency is currently under its influence and the clock is ticking for them. As if trying to come to terms with her new identity while hiding her secret from Jake wasn’t enough, Toni must now track down those responsible for distributing the deadly drug - a feat that sees her once again in the middle of a supernatural war that places her in mortal danger.

The Tracker’s Secret is the second compelling instalment of the Mate Tracker series and picks up immediately after the events of the previous book. Toni is reeling from the discovery that in addition to being a tracker - a human with magic in her blood, she is a werewolf too. Unfortunately years of having her shifter side suppressed has left her with no control over her wolf and she’s forced to seek guidance on accessing her shifter abilities. Supporting Toni throughout her crisis is the ever dependable Roselina. Their endearing unwavering friendship being just one of the many highlights of this series.

With its witty dialogue, relentless pacing and adept character development, this book was a great continuation of the series in which several secondary characters made their debut. Damien Ward and Eric Cross were particularly welcome additions. There were several amusing instances with the former while Eric Cross, with his questionable background and antagonistic nature, was an enigma whose background I’m hoping the author will shed light on in the next instalment.

Toni’s development has made for compulsive reading. Her strength, compassion and snark will have readers totally rooting for her and her relationship with Jake which remains at odds despite Toni’s new shifter abilities. This is due to Jake’s desire to carry on his father’s legacy coupled with Toni’s self doubt continue to be an obstacle in their relationship. After that jaw dropping ending, I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for her in the next instalment.

Woof. This book was not what I expected.

Again, I've fallen into the pitfall of reading boring books. Everything was meh in this one. It was always the twist in the end that excited me, whereas the rest of the book was an okay read. I wish for something more. Something more exciting, more steamy, more intriguing. What I got, was none of these and a cruel cliffhanger.

Why authors always do this? Left us with actually nice twist on the cliffhanger, and then continue the next book with nothing happening again, until at the very last moments. Again.

While I enjoyed the twist of Toni finding out that she was really a hidden werewolf, I really grew to dislike her personality in this book. She doesn't think before she acts in multiple instances and keeps trying to find ways to escape her new reality and responsibility, like when she tried asking a bartender for I really disliked all the interactions she had with Jake and Eric for various reasons. Yes, they're both assholes, but at least Toni could be more consistent in standing up for herself and her ideals rather than reacting in the heat of the moment.

I think overall, too many new subplots and characters were introduced in this book from a story perspective. We have the Copper Mage Damien, the vampire Rhabo drug, publicly-hated lone alpha werewolf Eric, the previously-thought dead Blake mystery, a new gay client looking for a mate, her interpersonal relationships with both Jake and Stephen, and then Toni's attempt to control her werewolf instincts all competing for attention. Some of the subplots were resolved better than others by the end of the book, but it was quite messy, and the mysteriousness of some of the characters mostly came from lack of detail and exposition.

I still plan on reading the next book when it comes out to unravel some more of the mysteries that were left hanging by the end, but this book on its own doesn't stand very well, and I'm not really liking any of the characters at this point other than Rosalina for her consistently caring attitude. Everyone else sucks.

This book was as spectacular as the first. Would definitely recommend reading in order, as the books build heavily on each other.

The last few pages of the first book introduce a mini-cliffhanger, so I dove right into the second book. Not much sleep has been had in the past couple of days... Beware, this book also ends by introducing a mystery right at the very end that launches the third book.

The ONLY thing I don't love is our primary love interest who (not a spoiler) made our lovely protag miserable. He's... a buttface. I'm hoping that she doesn't actually end up with him ever.

This was a rollercoaster for emotions. The plot continues to move at a great clip and the mysteries keep coming. Toni and Jake are giving me whiplash. I ache for them both while at the same time I want to smack Jake! Can't wait for #3!

I'm not sure where to even start because this chick just upset me so much.

Toni was ok in the first book. I didn’t feel like I was exactly rooting for her, but I wasn’t annoyed with her either. Wow! Did that change in this book! Almost every decision, every instinct she had pissed me off. And surprise, surprise. Those dumb decisions mostly revolved around Jake. She talked about how much he hurt her but continues to not just interact with him all the time but make out and kiss and hold each other… Like, what?! I read it and am just like HAVE SOME BACKBONE WILL YA! A review from Sasha put it perfectly, “I felt that if she walked in and he was doing the dirty, with another girl, she would still have slept with him an hour later without him taking a shower. No backbone.” And for that, I can't stand her.

And to be fair, I can't stand Jake either. The selfish little prick really can't understand or come to grips with the fact that 1) he hurt her badly by disappearing without a trace with no explanation and 2) that it is so incredibly selfish of him to continuously insert himself in her life and make out and touch and hold her and comfort her like they're in a relationship when in his mind they can never be. Not the mention the little prick had the nerve to suggest having Toni as a side piece while he fulfills his promise to his father. If he's so set on fulfilling that promise, why would he keep his office right next to her's? Why would he not go out of his way to avoid her? Answer: selfish prick.

For reasons I don't understand, I’m giving this series one more book to change my mind. But honestly, I'm not very optimistic and I doubt I'll be finishing the series.

This series is gonna kill me. Tracker's Secret is the second book in the Mate Tracker series and it was great! Toni and Rose are still in the mate finder game, finding mates for people all over St. Louis. However, Toni once again finds herself right in the middle of a crazy supernatural mess when she discovers that a supernatural drug has hit the streets and is starting to affect her clients.

I like Toni, she's stubborn, smart, kind, brave, reckless, and an overall good person. She loves her job of finding people their mates because she wants people to be happy and finding love is a way to do that. Now if only her own love life would work out. Jake is a continued factor in Toni's love life, it's hard for them to say away from each other, I can see the spark between them. However, while circumstances may have changed with Toni finding out she's a werewolf, other factors continue to get in the way like she is a werewolf who doesn't know how to be a wolf. Toni and Jake are one of those couples that you know despite everything that has happened in the past, they should be together but things are just not so easy and it's killing me. I have no idea what's gonna happen in the future but Jake is honestly a good guy, he and Toni connect on several levels and there are real feelings there, I am praying they work it out because they are killing me.

Toni is dealing with the fallout of not only her and Jake's decisions but from her mother's as well. Toni is struggling with being a wolf and I don't blame her about her feelings about her mother but love seeing the support from the other people in her life, especially Rose. Once again the relationship between Rose and Toni is represented very well, their sisterhood is so sweet and this time around I got to see another aspect of their relationship which grounds it even more for me.

With Tracker's Secret, the story flowed smoothly and fast. It was highly entertaining, introduce some interesting characters, and made me laugh, I course loved it. The only problem I had with Tracker's Secret, is the angsty between Jake and Toni is killing me. Please Ms. Seymour fix this, I can't take it. That ending destroyed me and I need the next book. A few questions came up for me but most importantly is who exactly is Toni's bio dad? I didn't really think about it before but now I'm asking the question and I am hoping it's revealed in the next book, Tracker's Rage. I have no idea where the next book is going but I am excited to get there.

I received an advance copy from the author. This is my honest review.

Finally, FINALLY, I got my hands on this book. I have to say the wait between finishing the first one and getting this one was long and not at all pleasant. Even though it’s a rapid release series, the wait is still torture *sobs uncontrollably*. But now we’re back and we finally get answers! And I do have to say that for the most part, this book doesn’t disappoint.

A common dilemma that I find with sequels is that they can tend to contain too much filler. It’s the book where some conflict has happened in the first one and its shocked the protagonist, so the second one is all about finding the equilibrium and them searching for answers. It’s more of a discovery book than an action book. Now I wouldn’t say that the Tracker’s Secret completely escaped this fate – I did find that it didn’t quite grab me as much as the first one did, and I felt at times that I would be able to put it down quite easily. But I also wasn’t completely bored out of my mind. There was enough of a mystery there to hold my interest (which is good because there was a lot of pining in this one. Like A LOT).

And balancing this were the snippets of excitement scattered throughout the early stages of the book. There were promises of more, sort of like saying ‘yes I know there’s a lot of filler sort of content to come, but stick with it, it’ll be worth it I promise’. And I have to say that it was. Before I knew it, I was at the end of the book and not really sure how I got there, but that I definitely wanted more. And in true sequel book style, we just had to have not one but TWO big reveals at the end.

It’s safe to say that The Tracker’s Secret lived up to my expectations. It is by no means a disappointing next instalment in this series, and with that ending, I can tell the wait until April will feel just as, if not, longer. So, if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll return to my corner and continue to cry until that day comes *resumes sobbing*.

***3.5***

This book starts off soon after book 1 so the gap is minimal. There is a lot going on in this book and trying to keep up was frustrating sometimes.

Toni is dealing with her new identity, kept hidden from her for 20 yrs by her mom. It was a bombshell to say the least and she's having a hard time dealing with it....a constant fight between denial, acceptance and trying to learn how to be a whole new species. To say it is a struggle is an understatement. I did understand how so felt and did relate to that. I did not like the fact that she was slowly accepting that now Jake would accept her since she fit a certain criteria. Ugh....what I would love to see is her kicking his arse!!

Jake, was there but not as much. He was still a bit of an ass to say the least. I get that family obligations and all that jazz....but, eventually, you're an adult and need to figure out what is important to you as a person! He needs to do his own growth and there wasn't much in book 2 sadly. I hope to see more from him. A lot more!

Rosalina...still awesome!
I am not sure what to think of the mage Damien. He played a huge role in Toni's life as a child. But again, he was there for half the book and then poof! gone rest of the book. Not sure if he will play a bigger role or was that it for him? I kinda liked his prim character, lol.

This book does end on a cliffhanger. I will read it as I definitely want to know the mystery and how things turn out for the characters. I also did not understand the stupidity that Jake and Toni end up doing and then crash and burn! trying to be heroes *eyeroll*. Especially, knowing that there's a conspiracy and many parties would be involved....wouldn't it help to take some backup?? I understand that if you accidentally end up in a situation then it's a different thing. But they were doing this as a planned attempt. Anywho, I will read book 3...which comes out in few days!

Overall this is a decent continuation of the first book. A decent 3 stars maybe close to 4 just like the first one. But at the very end the book sets up extremely stupid and contrived bait as a hook for the next book.
I generally don't have anything against some sort of reveal or twist or some other sort of thread being dangled at the end of a book in a series to motivate the continuation of it, especially because the release of the next one typically is months away yet.
But this one is just low. Not in that it is too open or leaving me hanging, but in that it compromises the love interests' character to a degree that I can only think good riddance. It completely comrpomises the integrity of the two characters.
But the problem is that it has been very clear to the reader from the very beginning of the first book that they are probably fated mates so the author will have to pull some bulshit to justify this ridiculous and contrived twist. And I am going to be mad the entire time reading the next book and wishing the MC would just actually leave the love interest behind for good and find someone better. At the same time I will lose more and more respect for the MC as well with a good chance of getting to a point where I just don't care anymore and stop.
And for what? Is that really all the author could have come up with? Really...
I get that it probably seems petty to be this mad about such a rather small thing but for me it probably downgraded the entire series into a borderline 2 star series even though I could have enjoyed it a lot more otherwise.

Toni's world is now askew, her tracker status now not the only thing to make her a paranormal- but now she knows she is a werewolf that has been spelled not to turn her whole life. She has no idea how to control her animal side, especially while trying to make her business thrive, survive random murderous attacks, battle her romantic feelings that can never be anything more, and investigate a mysterious new drug targeting vampires. To say she has a lot on her plate is an understatement.

I don't know if it was because I already know the world or the characters since this is the second book in the series, but I found myself instantly sucked into the story. The Tracker's Secret literally starts the moment that book 1 ended, right after Toni was told a shocking secret that changes the very fiber of her life- you for sure need to read this series in order or will be super lost and miss out. This was incredibly fast paced and engaging, full of dangerous action and hard truths, as well as a very angsty non-romance and I blew through the pages in a weekend because I had to know more- the only downside is I don't have the next book to read yet.

This is the perfect series for anyone who loves urban fantasy/paranormal romances, werewolves, magic, conspiracy theories, mystery, the hope of romance (with LOTS of angst) and a resilient main character that rolls with all the punches. I can't wait to see what the next book in the series brings with it- but I know it will be exciting.

Finding out you have been deceived and lied to all your life, and by your mother no less, could be equally shocking as the secret itself.
Toni could tell you a lot about this.
Not only was she a werewolf, out of sync with her animal half and battling for control, but that fact also complicated the bond between her and Jake. Because, trying her hardest won't erase the fact they both feel and care strongly about each other.
Personal struggle aside, there is also a lot going on around Toni - new and dangerous drug killing off vampires, dead men walking alive, mage showing interest in Rosalina, and something strange going on with the Ericksons. Not even mentioning the harsh tutor that is supposed to train Toni how to be a shifter...
The great story did not weaken in this second book; on the contrary, the reading experience only strengthened. I really enjoyed the brilliant storytelling, passionate emotions, and dramatic scenes, ever changing dynamics between the main characters, even the short-lived "arguments" between Toni and Rosalina. Moreover, the intrigue brought by the strange magical abilities demonstrated in this book and frightening Toni a bit are indicating more twists in the future and promise another great story coming. I really enjoy this series so far.

Toni is once again dragged into the city's turnoil. She is growing more in sync with her wolf and finding out she has more powers. What those powers are and how they work remains a mystery. Tori and Jake have a constant push and pull relationship. They love each other but can't be together. Honestly Jake is getting on my nerves. One minute he knows they can't be together and the next he's inserting himself into her business. Hopefully they will be able to figure everything out. This book is explosive! So much happens it keeps your head spinning! Friends turned enemies and enemies who are turning into allies. Theres is so much more going on than meets the eye. Its a crazy roller-coaster ride. I loved seeing Damien, Eric, Rosalina, and Jake come together to save Tori from the phychos. I hope to see more of them all working together. I actually liked Stephen at first and was hoping he could be redeemed but now he's off his rocker crazy. Those last few chapters are mind blowing! That cliffhanger was jaw dropping! I need book four asap! I can't wait to find out what happens next and I really hope we get to meet Tori's dad! I highly recommend!

I received an arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Wow, just wow! That was quite an exhilarating ride. Jack grew on me quite a lot this time around. Toni is infuriating in her secrets and reticence. Red promises to be absolutely exciting, I love her already! I wish Toni would wise up and become a bit more cutthroat, it would solve some problems quickly, but I guess protagonists can't be that, sigh. This book left me with so many questions, like Toni, I must get answered and I loved it because they were all raised by such exciting events. Will Rosa and Damien be each other's perfect mate? There are so many misunderstandings it's crazy. I caught on to Stephen early on though, but that's because detective mysteries taught me to look out for the most unusual suspects first lol. Wow, I was not bored one single bit. I can't wait for the next book, excited already! Ingrid never disappoints me! Perfection! 👌🏾

Mind blowing revelations!

There is a cliffhanger at the end that will blow you away!!! I was not prepared. You've been warned. This book drives me crazy. If I had been Toni the first thing I would have done after her moms reveal is tell Jake. Hello it's what she's always wanted. They both want it, why hide it? Yeah he left her high and dry at one point, but they still feel the same about each other. I know in my heart they are mates. Damien is really annoying at first and when he tears up To it's hardwood floors. Now that I think I know who kidnapped Stephan I'm second guessing the who kidnapping! This book is about Toni learning more about herself. It's also about a drug that could destroy the vampires. Who's really a step ahead of them everytime? When you find out it will all click.

I had to purchase this book as soon as I finished the first one due to the massive cliffhanger. Luckily, I found the first book the night before this one was available on amazon so instant gratification, unluckily this one ended in a cliffhanger too. Safe to say I will continue this series when all the books are out. There are only so many cliffhangers a girl can take.

About the actual contents of the book; if you liked the first one then you'll definitely enjoy this sequel. Toni's a real chick who actually reacts to her extraordinary circumstances in a relatable way. As for Jake, he's got some work to do and I'm so glad Toni doesn't take his crap, he really needs to earn her trust back.

4 stars.

Yes!!!!

It just keeps getting better! More mystery, questions, and answers. More doubt, heartache and confusion. So what we find out in the end is yet again another left hook surprise. Anyone else take a long look at Toni's full name? I'm wondering if her dad is some big bad alpha with the name Anton...her middle name is also Luna. Yeah her mom left her clues. So we have a deadly drug, a deceitful beta (who shouldn't over power an alpha...whatever), a mysterious lone wolf, sneaky underhanded mage, possible alpha heir/beta coup, dumb mate, deceiving older grandfather and alpha powers. This story just keeps you hooked, strapped to your book, ignoring real life because its not as awesome as this story!

Fast Paced & Sassy With Some Big Twists!😲💉🍷🌂🎧
A Really Good Second Book!🎉📚🐺
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
The Tracker’s Secret (Mate Tracker, #2)

This book turned it up a notch from book one in terms of character and story development!🎉 The twists, turns & reveals were well written. I really want to know what the Fae Prince has to do with all of this & what he knows about Toni. I'm pretty sure he's a good guy .... I think!?🙏

I thought the Rhabo was a very clever plot twist. I liked the new characters brought in for Toni too. The DJ seemed really sweet too.😍 I love her business partnership & frienship. Jake, is smoking hot.🔥 Is that enough though?😕 I can't wait to read book #3.🌟

I purchased and listened to this book on Audible books. Having listened to both Audible books 1& 2 I highly recommend you read them in order. These are Not stand alone books. I this story the MC (Toni) finds out more about herself when her Mother's secret is revealed. This comes as no surprise to this listener/ reader, because I had guess it by middle end of book #1. I am enjoying the Series, but absolutely Hate Cliffhangers and this 2nd book ends with a Cliffhanger. Therefore why 3 Star instead of 4Star rating. Narrator does a good job with the characters voices and the entire storyline.

This was my first Ingrid Seymour read, so I came into this series/world a bit late.

Still, it sucked me in right away and… I might go back & read book 1, just because I’m now hooked on this world but I don’t feel lost at all.

This book was fast-paced and packs lots of drama, some ‘coming of age’ vibes, a mystery, likely some conspiracy is in the works. Extremely fun read and I now want to read all the author’s work.

Ended on a cliffhanger.

4 stars.

Audio:
Wow!—she sounded amazing. Perfect delivery throughout. I’d listen to anything else she narrated, any time. 5-star performance.

I really like this one better than the first one. Toni seems to be finding more of herself and is really stepping into her new self. Usually, I can spot twists immediately, but this one almost surprised me. It was more of a "haha I bet HE is the one behind it all" and then when that was revealed, I was honestly surprised.

I am not a big fan of "unspoken words/feelings" in most books because they mainly focus on the characters' insecurities, but it works for this book because the "unspoken words/feelings" are there for a more significant reason besides insecurities.

I can't wait to continue the series.

The Tracker’s Secret by Ingrid Seymour picks up right where the first left off. Toni now has to learn to deal with why Jake left her and broke her heart in the first place. Who is really behind the kidnapping and repeated threat of Steven and the lies her mom hid from her all her life. Now she is trying to build her life all over again and learn who she is as a werewolf while lying to the one she loves and uncovering the mystery of who’s causing the feud between the supernatural. With another cliffhanger I’m being left grabbing the next in the series loving this YA paranormal fantasy. Her books are so clean and sweet leaving them the perfect palette cleanser.

This is the second book in the series and it really gets you going. Toni finds out she has a big, very big secret to tell Jake, a werewolf she clearly likes very much. What and how to handle this secret could put Toni in dire circumstances. Jake is going to be put in charge of their pack and made to marry by his grandfather but he's not happy about it for Jake is in love with Toni. As a tracker of people, Toni puts herself into a trance to find a supposed dead guy (not dead), but this puts Toni into a lot of trouble. A very good series!
