Accidental Detour

What's worse than a sexy lumberjack-wannabe stealing my car with me in it? Not sure, but I think I'm about to find out.

Things that could ruin a cross county road trip with a gorgeous hunk of a guy

I don’t know where we’re going
who the hot guy is
or why he just jacked my car.

Okay, so it’s not my car, but that’s not the important part. I’m currently hiding in the back seat from my carjacker-possible-psycho-killer, trying to ignore his sexy scent, lumberjack shoulders, and obnoxious singing.

And I think he knows I’m here.

Accidental Detour is a 11,000+ gay romance full of questionable decisions, attempts at holiday cheer, and a car named Stella. This humorous holiday story is a stand-alone with a HEA.

A short insta-love story. The setup is a bit ridiculous, in a good way, and there's not much relationship development, but the story is very entertaining and original. Jonas is hilarious. Loved him.

I originally read this story as a part of the Winter Wonderland Giveaway. This new version has an epilogue added to it.

Accidental Detour is a short, stand alone, holiday novella by D.K. Sutton. This is such a cute, unique little story. It started out in such a fun, quirky way and ended in the sweetest, swooniest of ways.

Jonas is one of seven siblings, twenty three years old. He is second to the youngest. Growing up it was always Jonas that got lost, or hurt, or forgotten. Any kind of family get together with this many siblings was always crazy. So that’s how he ended up in the car that day. He just wanted some peace and quiet. He definitely didn’t plan on being car-jacked.

Zane Brooks is a veterinarian. I don’t believe we’re given his full age but he’s a bit older than Jonas. All Zane is trying to do is help his brother Dave. He definitely didn’t anticipate on Jonas being hidden in the back seat when he took the car!

This was so cute. Jonas was so adorkable. And Zane was so swoony with all the heart eyes he had for Jonas. I loved that this was different and fun with a bit of steam and a couple of surprises. That’s definitely remarkable given how short it is. I was pulled right in to the story and it made me both smile and sigh. This is only my second book by this author but you can be sure there will be more.

Cute, funny, and very short.
I loved both of the MCs.
It wasn't really a Christmas story, which I was a little disappointed about because I purposely waited to read it at Christmas, but still, it was adorable.

Oh my gosh, so funny! What a charming and entertaining meet-cute. I loved all the twists and turns D.K. Sutton's Accidental Detour takes.

Jonas is adorable, and he's found his perfect match with Zane. A very fun story.

To give credit where it's due, I'll say I really enjoyed Kevin Earlywine's performance in the audio version. He created voices which were perfect for these two guys, and his lighthearted delivery emphasized the humor that D.K. Sutton was going for. Marvelous!

an audiobook copy of Accidental Detour was provided to me for the purpose of my honest review, all opinions are my own

Super cute and funny .There is a ton of humor packed into this short story. The musings of Jonas are too funny! Zane is the car thief, kidnapper, stalker and incredibly hot lumberjack wannabe.

This was a cute, laugh out loud, insta love kind of story and I was there for it. From the moment of the accidental car jacking/kidnapping the author had me in stitches. Don't read this on your morning commute like I did. It won't end with anything but people staring at you.

Jonas and Zane were a hoot. I enjoyed this story a lot. It was a journey getting to know these two. I need more from them. They kept me laughing. It was short and sweet, but worth the read.

I really liked this one...

Audiobook and ebook Review

So here we have Jonas, who is a young fella who snuck out to hide in his sister's car during a family party. While he was asleep, a hunky lumberjack drives off without knowing someone was in the backseat. This begins the love story between Jonas and Zane.

Since this is such a short story, I cannot go into very much detail, but this is an instalove situation with an older brother of his sister's boyfriend. You have to just accept this one and go with the flow. It has a good vibe.

I had no issues with the quickness of the falling in love, as it had to be, but I wish some things weren't mentioned. I mean, Jonas works in IT but that's the whole title. I work in IT but I don't actually describe it that way. Just say he is a programmer or engineer or whatever, that would've been fine. I have no idea why that part stuck in my head but it did.

Anyway, this was a new to me narrator but I enjoyed the narration. Kevin did a good job and I would listen to them again.

Short and sweet and fun!

Jonas was hilarious and a bit of a goofball. Zane was the serious one who found him to be adorable. Their meet-cute was unique and made me smile.

I wanted to squeeze in a quick read in between my other books and I’m so glad I chose this one.

Not quite enough depth for a full 4 stars, but it's a short story and so there had to be some insta love to move the story along. The characters made me believe in an HEA for them even if the set up was unrealistic. Pretend like reality isn't a thing and enjoy this short for the sweet little package that it is.

Parts of this were pretty frickin' funny, but the plot meandered all over. And the "Epilogue" was a third of the book. Literally. It starts at 68%.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.5 stars

Accidental Detour is a light, fun, and pretty adorable short story. Part of the enjoyment comes from untangling exactly what is going on that got Zane and Jonas into this situation, and things develop with some humor and absurdity. I mean, yes, the explanation for everything is kind of crazy, so you just have to roll with it. But it fits with the tone of the story, which is light and frothy. Jonas talks non-stop and pretty much everything in his head comes out his mouth. He also breaks the fourth wall, talking directly to the reader about his thoughts on what is going on. Honestly, Jonas could have been a lot to handle in a longer book, but I think he works well here. There is a quirkiness and light-hearted tone that works nicely in this short format.

Accidental Detour is an adorable Christmas romance by DK Sutton.

This one starts off with a lot of laughs. Everything about it just had me charmed by Jonas and Zane immediately. The singing. The craziness. The internal dialogue.

What follows is a sweet as can be romance. Humor. Instant attraction. Heat.

Written in first person pov, the internal monologue is everything. Ultra short tale at just 56 pages, it's wonderfully developed, never feeling like anything is missing.

Accidental Detour is a feel good holiday romance. This DK Sutton read is perfect for a smile and a laugh.

This super entertaining short story is a whirlwind of fun, insta-love and misunderstandings!
Jonas is a lovely character, and though he is kind of a mess, he is an absolute treasure to read. Supposed-carjacker-wannabe-lumberjack Zane has his work cut for him with the sassy younger man!

This was so cute! I can't say that I've ever seen a meet-cute quite like this one. It was hilarious. Mostly due to Jonas's commentary. Honestly, I want to be his best friend. He's so much fun, even with his bad karma. I think Zane was pretty awesome too. I love how focused he was on helping his brother get his girl back. The whole story was perfect to curl up in bed with on a cold night.

Jonas and Zane had an adorable meet cute in the backseat of a car. While this romance is short, there is not shortage of sweetness and laughter. Jonas is a mess with his inner dialogue, and Zane brings the sweetness with his patience and love for Jonas. A perfect wintery bedtime read!

Extended

I've read this before but it has been released with an extension to the epilogue which was a great addition to the story.
I really liked Jonas and his inner monologue.
It's short but enough is done in the pages that it doesn't really need more.
Short and sweet

This was a sweet, funny, and quick read. It’s just Jonas’ luck to be in someone else’s car when a strange man takes it. He has mixed feelings about his situation. On the one hand, he’s been unknowingly kidnapped but, on the other hand, the driver is not only funny but is unaware that Jonas is hiding in the back seat.

When introductions are made, Jonas still isn’t sure how to feel about the adorable Zane.

Jonas’ inner monologue is funny and Zane’s butchering of 80’s hit songs is both hilarious and painful!!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I liked this novella but events that happened early in the romance kind of put me off this a bit. The main character is found by the “kidnapper” and within a couple of hours or less the said kidnapper was already talking about kissing him. And flirting majorly. Now I know this is a romance but I found myself shaking my head. It was just a bit quick for me and again, I realize it’s a novella. That was my only problem with the story. Otherwise, I did enjoy this m/m story and the characters. At times the main character was a tad annoying with his nonstop chatter as well as his thoughts. The romance was very sweet and a little bit spicy. Adult read.

Great Story & Listen🎧 Sweet, Fun & Entertaining!

Accidental Detour
By: D. K. Sutton
Narrated by: Kevin Earlywine

This enjoyable, fast-paced story is will have you smiling the entire time. It is my first book written by D.K. Sutton, and it will not be my last, she is a gifted author and she fits an impressive amount of story in this short read/audiobook listen and the dialogue and witty banter was brilliant. I adored the two lead characters, Jonas and Zane, the two meet in such a non-traditional way, an unrealistic situation but the author pulls it off and makes it real with a twist and an unexpected connection. This is a short and sweet story, just what you need to brighten up your day. D.K. Sutton, thank you for this great story and fun ride!

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Kevin Earlywine did a great job bringing these characters to life and their story to life. He had a complete understanding of the characters he portrayed, gave each a voice that fit the character’s persona perfectly, and was believable in every role he played. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into his performance and had you feeling every single one. Earlywine is an entertaining storyteller and a versatile voice artist. Thank you for another fantastic listen.

This was a really cute and fun short which I listened to in audiobook. I loved the characters and it was laugh-out-loud funny at several points.

There were a couple of small points that stopped it being a 5 star but overall I enjoyed it. It was a very short book (1hr 49 mins on audio) and yet a massive 35 minutes, nearly a third of it, was taken up by the epilogue. The epilogue takes place some years later and could pretty much be a short story in its own right. Normally I am very much in favour of epilogues and bonus content, the longer the better, and I wouldn't have had any issue if it had been in a longer book, but for such a small title it felt a bit unbalanced and unwieldy.

My other concern is that the premise of the plot isn't fully explained, and what explanation there is seems a bit of a stretch. Even for a romance book. Even for a festive romance book, which are frequently a little bit daft.

Despite those slight issues, I very much enjoyed the book and I will be looking out for more books by DK Sutton. I listened to the audio of this title, narrated by Kevin Earlywine. It was my first time listening to an audio with a single narrator, and I was impressed with how distinct the voices were for each character. I would definitely recommend the audiobook version.

Story 4.5 stars
Narration 4.5 stars

This was a very sweet and funny story. The characters were wonderful and the plot was entertaining. I absolutely would recommend it to anyone who enjoys light, fun, no angst, super cute short stories. This is in with other Holiday book recs but other than them needing to be back in time for Xmas, nothing else Christmasy is mentioned so u can read this any time or for anyone not fond of the holiday, this is for you. Just know there is some serious instalust but I wouldn't say there is instalove.

I only wish that it was longer. It was super short and I wanted to see more of their relationship develop on page rather than just a quick off page post summarization at the end. I still got to give it at least a 4.5 though cause it is so far the most entertaining short story I have read in a long time.

I've never heard of this narrator before but he did a great job. He soundsd age appropriate, he expressed the emotions well and although there wasn't a huge voice change for the different characters, I could definitely tell the difference with him doing a deeper tone for one and a lighter tone for the other. Even though it wasn't super obvious.

Short, hilarious M/M romance between brothers of lovers
This was the funniest book I’ve read for a while. I kept laughing out loud, even at work. When Jonas is talking or just thinking, it can be sidesplittingly outrageous.
During the twins’ birthday celebration Jonas has had enough of “family time” especially with his boisterous relatives so he seeks refuge in his sister’s VW Beetle, which he has named Stella. He’s curled up in the back seat under his blankie when he realizes Peyton’s car has been jacked by a bad-singing-mountain-of-a-man. This scene is so comical. Jonas lives up to his creed, “I’m always in the wrong place at the wrong time.” The bad-singing-hijacker is Zane, none other than Peyton’s boyfriend’s brother. There’s method to his madness but things get even more interesting when Jonas and Zane feel an attraction.
I loved this short little humorous story with a super HEA ending. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and it is recommended for readers of M/M rom com. So good.

I’m reviewing the audio edition. This is a really short story. Perfect as I needed something for a short drive.
It is funny right from the beginning. Zane is a sort of car thief, kidnapper but most of all a concerned brother.
Jonas while trying to get a little private time away from a party hides in his sister’s car when Zane takes the car. Jonas has the most unique personality and is such a joy in his interaction with Zane.
Both are busy representing their siblings, Jonas’s sister Peyton and Zane’s brother Dave, while Zane is busy trying to put the siblings back together.
This is the perfect stress relief story. It kept me laughing…a lot out loud…throughout the story. The “singing” by Zane and the thoughts of Jonas are way too funny. Jonas needing his blankie gave me a picture that totally gave me a laugh. The narration by Kevin Earlywine is perfect. He does a great job of representing each character individually, the snark of Jonas and the somewhat calm personality of Zane.

A short and fun romance from D.K. Sutton, narrated by Kevin Earlywine.
Jonas and Zane's meet cute is not one that many say they'd had, being kidnapped in their sister's car by her ex's brother. It's a heartwarming tale, what Zane is trying to do with the unexpected bonus of having some alone time with he drives the car a few hours back to his home town. It's fun to read/listen as Jonas's thought go off on many tangents and comes out with some crazy lines that Zane is totally endeared by. For a "kidnapping" story, it's a very easy listen, light and occasionally heated.
Definitely recommended for those who enjoy a no angst romance with entertaining characters and a plan with the best of intentions.
My first listen to Kevin's narration and I enjoyed it. Jonas's personality perfectly matches the voice Kevin provides and it was so easy to fall into the story from the start.
