An unusual and thrilling impression in post apocalyptic genre! A desperate situation leads to desperate measures, which in turn blows back on the protagonist, Scott. An average citizen, little does he know what he is getting into. Add to the already Crimson Rage-as the title well describes-he feels for what they did to him, the sudden disasters that scourge the planet and decimates the world population.
I could feel the desperation, the helplessness, the sense of failure and could understand his decision to grasp at straws to support his family. The blind rage that consumes oneself when feeling betrayed, the desire for revenge..one of the worst emotions that can debilitate, blind us and drive us towards extreme actions. A hard driven storyline, with unsuspecting and thrilling moments. Fires has combined a psychological thriller with a post apocalyptic plot with dexterity, giving a new light to the genre. An impressive prequel to a promising new series. A series I will definitely follow with Crimson Rage #1! -I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and my review is entirely voluntary.
When life is good, it can be very good. When it is bad, it can be very bad. But for most, life shifts all over the place, just taking you along for a ride. Desperate events can influence bad decisions and even worse events. Your choices can change your life or end it
If you've read the Crimson Rage series (which I have) this is the prequel to it. It's a fascinating story with an ending that I didn't see coming and just shows how easily someone can be drawn into a life of crime. A great short story.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Scott thought he was just a regular guy. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem that way. Things are about to change in a big way. Perfect intro to a great series.
How much bad luck can one guy have? Life-changing amounts apparently, as an 'Everyman', Scott, finds out the hard way, in a 'Tales of the Unexpected'-type novella, Nemesis, by Sam J Fires.
From the first blow, when he loses his engineering job and lies to his wife, pretending everything is fine, via his former boss's introduction to the mysterious Gideon, the thread of life seems silky smooth, finally giving him and his little family a break and a nudge in the right direction...but throughout the good times, a dark shadow hangs over him and suddenly, things start unraveling too fast to stop.
What will Scott do? Can he become Nemesis? What's the twist in the tale? Get your copy to find out!
Nemesis: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Series (Crimson Rage The Prequel), my eighth read from author Sam J. Fires. A well-written, entertaining read. Waiting for Grip of Honor: A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Survival Thriller (End of Days Book 7) to be published in late October I’ve elected to start the Crimson Rage Series since I own the first 6 books. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. Next up Crimson Rage: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller (Crimson Rage Series Part 1). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
This book is the intro to the Crimson Rage Series. It's a fairly short book, readable in one sitting so as such, there isn't a huge amount to say about it. That is, other than to say that it's an awesome intro, and I am really keen to get started on Book 1 of the series.
My only negative, it's set in Los Angeles, but the main protagonist makes a few comments that are distinctly British - such as greeting someone with "All right, lads?" So I'm was a little confused and thought I missed where Fires mentioned that the character was English. But no, I didn't.
Sam has got me hooked! I was invited to read an ARC of his Crimson Rage series, book 2, but first I felt I needed to read the books that came before. WOW, so glad I did. It is short, but so much packed into 34 pages!!
Scott is a husband, a father, he has a good job and is living the American Dream. Then it all changes.
Then.... the sand....
WOW.. You have to read this and then continue on to Crimson Rage book 1, which I am going to do as soon as I'm done here!
This was another fun, exciting read by a favorite author. My judgement of a book includes how lost I get into the characters, the plot, the setting, the tone and pacing. If I can totally immerse my mind into one of Sam's excellent books, it deserves much more than 5 stars. This is such a book. And it left me wanting to read more of this author's books. You will enjoy reading this as much as I did.🌞
I found while reading this that I had read it before. But l continued due to not remembering the ending and the story itself was interesting. Yes I would recommend this prequel to the series Crimson Rage which I can vaguely remember it being quite good. I will reread the series. All yous out there, if your a fan of Apocalyptic stories do read, it will not disappoint.
Scott loses his job, but is offered a delivery job from a stranger named Gideon. He figures it is illegal but dies it anyway. The police bust him and he is framed as the mastermind. He goes to prison, loses his wife and children through divorce, and is released from prison after 10 years. He finds Gideon, and then a sudden sand storm of some kind kills Gideon and Gideons body turns into sand.
This is a short read which makes it perfect for waiting for an appointment. Perfect setup for the series that follows. While we have read about what will cause the world as we knew it to crumble, I have not read one about a major climate shift. Well worth reading.
A really interesting introduction to the author's Rage series and an apocalyptic beginning that I'd never heard of before. Draws you in because you're just dying to know what that "red sand" is! Makes for a very "no muss, no fuss", bloodless end of the world. It'd cut down on the stink no end too. 🤣
This story really grabbed me and now I’m really excited to read the Crimson Rage series. This short story really sets the scene for what is sure to be a very interesting series. I recently discovered Sam J. Fires’ books and I’m hooked. The stories are all very well written and really draw you into the perspective of the characters.
Scott must figure out how to deal with unemployment without worrying his family. He soon finds out if it seems to good to be true it probably is. He has no idea just how bad things can get though. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Scott is just a ordinary guy with a family and a job but on losing it he is offered a way to earn loads of money. This turns out not to be want he thought it was going to be and it leads him into a life of crime. He goes to prison and on release wants revenge from the man who set him.up. Denise
Fast, action-packed prequel introducing the main characters for the series. Very well written with believable characters. If you read this before you start the series, you will not see the sting in the tail coming.
Nemesis is an amazing prequel to an equally amazing series. As post apocalyptic fiction it gave me goosebumps. It's sand yet not. Makes me think twice about beach visits. Brilliantly written!
This was a free bit of flash fiction prequel to a different vibe apocalyptic story. It was definitely creative. I really liked the exploration of “we are all the hero of our story” seen through a very flawed character.
Loved the opening of the series. I was captivated on page one. I can understand his character completely. You are in a desperate position and will do anything to take care of your family. Must read.
This was a slow burner. I normally discard a slow burner book after about 30%, but having read other titles from this author, I stuck with it.............. Yup, was worth the pain!! Now I am invested and have to get the rest of the series!
Brief but packing a lot into 34 pages: a life-changing job offer, a prison sentence and the end of the world as we know it. Serves well as a teaser for the series
Scott Chapman finds himself unemployed and for the first time in his life he decides to hide this from his wife and son. After a month of searching, he accepts an opportunity that seems too good to be true. The job might be shaky but he continues because the money is good. Then his luck turns. As his life changes, he finds himself in a bad situation, made even worse in the years that follow, finding himself in a dangerous world. Scott's character is not quite credible and the story has a number of strange occurrences that do not necessarily follow the details of the plot line. Since this is an introduction to a series, these flaws probably won't affect the future stories.
