I'm on vacation so it's just a short review this time. Oh no!

This light novel would have done a lot better for itself not spending a third of its page count on the same "remembers her past life while being repudiated by a prince in favor of another girl" isekai setup that I've seen many times. That could easily have been a flashback so we could get on with what I felt was the heart of the matter: Laetitia cooking dishes she remembers from Earth and petting cute fluffy creatures.

The isekai I've read seem to focus in on magic creating nearly all the conveniences one needs to live what amounts to a 21st-century life. In this case, it enables Laetitia to have cooking as a fun hobby rather than the full-time job that it would have been in a pre-industrial world. Isekai also often assume that people in medieval times were stupid and/or incurious, and never experimented with plants, for example, to see if they were edible and tasty. Well, of course given a new exotic spice, they'd pour it all over their food, ruining the flavor. And so forth.

The situations not involving animals and food, such as the court intrigue, are painfully naive. A diplomatic marriage engagement carries no real meaning for either party involved, and if a baseless rumor circulates about the lower-ranked partner, there's nothing you can do except dissolve it. Plagiarism is punishable by decades of imprisonment. A prince who delegates his studies to a classmate could be the ruin of his country. And so forth.

Don't get me wrong, though, it's cute and innocuous and I did enjoy it, and wouldn't mind reading more. Given my lack of enthusiasm for, and skepticism about the parts of the story that actually contribute to some sort of plot, though, there's no way I'll be able to marathon it.

This is a fun and interesting combination of the reborn-as-a-villainess and isekai-cooking genres, and while it probably isn't quite worth four stars, it definitely covers a few of my weaknesses, not the least of which are plenty of fluffy animals as part of the story.

This story was so hilarious and fun from beginning to end. And as much as Leatitia likes her fluffy friends, there's really not a lot of fluff in the story. It's cutesy but you don't feel like it wasted your time on anything. Even her new found love of cooking is actually a big element in the plot and not just used as some stories do as something to be like oh she's different. This world uses food as a show of status or even used as a form of discrimination and there she is opening their eyes to how food should really be. I even like the wolf King. He's obviously not that friendly to her to begin with but they both started this with the full intention to end it, however he is polite and respectful, so it's not like there's some big issue with his personality that needs to change as some do with Tyrants in their stories.

My only complaint is how much she feels the need to repeat over and over that she remembers her past life. We don't have to be reminded every time she cooks a new dish that she's been reincarnated. We know. And yeah don't read this while you're hungry cause it will give you the munchies.

Great!

Firstly, there actually is a really entertaining story that goes throughout this book, with a very likable main character. But the fluffy adorableness and various recipes that come about in this book really do the title justice as well. It really is a highly entertaining read with many adorable and fluffy moments.

It was mostly fine, but the ending is nuts. God knows what she’ll do in the second one. Have the gardener burned alive for giving a tree clipping to his friends?

It’s your typical villainess combined with a soothing cooking slice of life

Generic transmigrator otome villainess. The more interesting parts were the slice of life where the protagonist experiments in the kitchen and learns more about the new country she married to.

Super cute fluffy romance

All the characters have very well developed personalities with a lot of thought behind their actions. Everything flows well and makes for a fun fluffy romance that I can't wait to read more of.

Light reading

This is an enjoyable book. It is light reading. Wolves are my favorite animal so I love how they are presented in this book.

Oh my, isn't this adorable.

I picked up this book mainly for the food, and not only it gave me what I wanted, but the amount of fluffy moments with furry friends far exceeded my expectations. We have an entire horde of wolves, a cat, and even a griffin. I read that the author's dream is to win the lottery so they can build a penguin aquarium with a gigantic swimming pool. Honestly? Big mood. Totally relatable. You can really feel the love for both food and fluffy friends packed abundantly in this book, and I absolutely love it.

This story begins with the classic opening scene for a villainess story. Laetitia gets dumped by her fiancé, the crown prince, who has fallen in love with Sumia, the "heroine". The book gives a surprising amount of details to the world-building and magic system, even going as far as revealing Sumia's background and connections. However, this part of the plot takes a backseat for the rest of the volume as Laetitia leaves her home country to marry Lord Aroo King Glenreed. From there, it's mostly light and delightful slice of life with plenty of cooking with fluffy friends. It doesn't seem like Laetitia will have to deal with Sumia and her ex-fiancé for the time being, so if you're expecting them to get what they deserve, it might have to wait until she returns to her homeland. Whenever that's going to be.

The main conflict in this book comes from the faction of Lady Natalie, the west villa's queen candidate. There are minor antagonists, and while their main role here is to stir up trouble, they also give some depth to some of the sub-characters as well as showing the issue of racism in Wolfvarte so it doesn't feel like they're mean just for the sake of being mean. Despite being a light slice of life read, the conflict is given proper development and resolution instead of getting cast aside as soon as it's over. The writing and translation are also easy to read. I will be keeping up with this series.

A charming Reincarnated Story

While repetitive at times, Since I Was Abandoned presents the heartwarming story of a hardworking woman reincarnated as Duchess Laetitia, the highly respected and acknowledged fiancé of the Crown Prince.

While starting off with the well-known trope of broken off engagements, the author stands out from the crowd by creating a FMC who is content with her arranged circumstances (as the figurehead Queen of Wolvarte). This isn’t a love story, although a relationship does seem to be forging between the King (Lord Aroo) and Laetitia. Laetitia is simply content to cook, pet animals and live in her secluded lodging, away from the drama of those vying for the wolf king’s queen.
While Laetitia does encounter conflict, I love how it’s never intense and leaves me cheering for more wins from our FMC.
I also really enjoyed learning about the recipes that Laetitia enjoyed and how she managed to make and modify them in this new reincarnated world.
Overall, I enjoyed the first volume and plan on continuing the series!

Better than I expected

To be honest, before I read the sample, I felt like I might not like it. But I was surprised to see that I wanted to read more after I finished the sample. I bought it then and there.

It was well translated and I didn’t see any major issues regarding English grammar and spelling.

The story was cute and I felt fluffy and warm inside most of the time. There were parts that were kind of redundant. Like when the author keep saying our protagonist is smart and clever. The logic our main character has is common sense. I’ve read so many books with political plots and this one was lacking in that aspect. I enjoyed the warm and layback feeling though. It’s a good book if you are looking for a book that lacks frustration and angsty feelings. I’m looking forward to volume two.

With reading so various light novels, I’ve noticed a pattern that takes place in a majority of them. The authors like to write about the mechanics of a task. For example, the author will write (what feels like) a step by step process on how to make something like macaroni and cheese. Usually, I skim the story when this takes place, so don’t know if each time happens to be a lengthy process.

Anyway, this was just my cup of tea, so I will probably start the sequel soon. Looking back, I am reminded of when I read different light novel called “White Cat’s Revenge as Plotted from the Dragon King’s Lap” which I enjoyed, too! I would’ve given this a 5 if the explanation for her increase in power didn’t was something more tangible than “double the life experience ‘cause of reincarnation.” To me, that is lazy writing.... I still ate it up, though!

ライノベ (Japanese light novels) are fun because I usually read them in one go, but they're dangerous things to read when in between work stuff because that means my stubborn brain is not satisfied if I can't read them all in one go. Anyway, I read all four volumes I had this morning, your mileage may vary as to whether this was a good idea...

Duchess Laetitia just wants to cook her old world's food and cuddle with cute animals, and a broken engagement, sudden banishment, and marriage of convenience to a foreign king just might lead her to the life she dreams of. I like how she's potentially an overpowered sorceress but she decides the best use of her endless powers are cooking and baking. a figurehead queen after my own heart - and King Glenreed's.

This book was seriously so, so, so, so good! I was really impressed with this series - you never really know whether or not a Light Novel is going to be translated well or if the story is going to be good in general, but I can honestly say that this book did well on both those fronts. The translation is one of the best I've ever read - seriously, if I started reading this book not knowing it was a Light Novel, I wouldn't be able to tell. I also fell head over heals in love with the plot! I'm a sucker for Isakei, especially the specific type of Isakei this story is. I also loved how slice of life this book was - there were definite plot points, but it wasn't a stressful or suspenseful story in the least. I would absolutely recommend this book if you're looking for a cute light read, especially if you're looking to get into Light Novels.

Ahhh...this story is just so cuteee.... haha... and the King though he is cold towards her but he still cared for her and you would be surprised what he turns into (can't spoil it). And of course she is just an acting Queen there will be enemies and also looking down on her. One of the candidate was sabotaging her though it is not the candidate that is disrespectful,it was the candidate's aunt and her cook that was disrespectful which almost cause her into trouble but she was smart enough to prove that she is innocent. And also I love that the wolves and other mystical creatures are so fond of her and also it made me hungry when she was making desserts and food. Overall is heart-warming and sweet just don't make me see her face doing that scary smile. haha...

Can't wait to read the next book of this series.

Fun Isekai fantasy with slice of life feels

This light novel is pretty fun! Heroine has the classic “I’ve lived another life” powers and experience to bring to a fantasy realm but she’s also an emotionally strong character, and it’s amusing to see what she does. She’s not ditsy or stupid or incessantly over thinking things which is a breath of fresh air when it comes to this genre.

The hero is cold and a “women hater” but is coming around to care for the heroine with glacier like speed. So definitely a slow burn.

The writing is pretty good. It is a light novel of course but props to whoever did the translations!

I picked this light novel on a whim, not expecting much — and it completely won me over.
Laetitia, unfairly exiled and dumped by her trash prince fiancé, finds herself rebuilding a life full of quiet joys: dogs, cooking, and a temporary position as queen. Yes, it’s sweet and cozy — but what really stayed with me were the well-defined characters and the surprisingly detailed worldbuilding. Much stronger than other similar “fluffy” stories I’ve read. It grows better and better with each volume, although the last one crosses the line a bit. I strongly suggest to give at least this first volume a chance!

Don’t read while hungry! Our girl gets reincarnated as a villainess and proceeds to go live her best (extremely relatable life). She lets the girl who stole her fiancée know there’s no hard feeling because now that gold-digger has to deal the man-child herself and blows out of town to go marry the neighboring king who sets up his wife of convenience in her own estate in the woods where she gets to cook and collect animal sidekicks at her leisure. Sure, as she’s technically queen, she occasionally gets drawn into political stuff but she puts down trouble like a boss.

I didn't expect much going into this story, and while it wasn't anything particularly remarkable, I had a good time!

The overarching story is a bit too benign to maintain my interest, but I think that it was well-executed enough for a one-off book. There is without a doubt an audience that would eat this up book after book (and no doubt already do) but I do not count myself among their numbers.

Cute, Fluffy Story

This is the kind of light novel that’s perfect for people needing a simple, quiet escape during a stressful time. Gentle characters, mild political intrigue and tasty food. What more could a person want? The title matches what’s on the inside, and was well written.

Such a cute story! I especially love how pragmatic and strong the heroine is! I’m usually not as interested in cooking light novels, but several of the dishes she makes sounded really good and I wanted to try them. The ending is a little bit cheesy, but it’s still a fun book and I’m looking forward to reading more of the series.
