After getting unceremoniously dumped by his boyfriend, the last thing Cooper Evans wants is to return to his hometown of Big Rock, Montana, to be in his best friend’s wedding. But he agreed to be her bridesmate (her male maid of honor), and a promise is a promise. What he didn’t expect is to run into his high school crush, who’s out of the closet and a smoking hot cop to boot.
Will Baker is just as dreamy as he was when he broke Cooper’s heart all those years ago - and it turns out he’s in the wedding party, too. Will Cooper make it through the ceremony with his heart unscathed, or will he risk it all for a second chance at love?
This was really sweet and it has one of my favourite tropes. I only wish it was longer, because there was no room for any sort of development. Especially for Will's character.
5 stars for the audiobook. Teddy Hamilton is amazing, as always.
Well, this was delightful and totally sweet! I really liked it and can absolutely recommend it. Pity it was so damn short.
My only niggle is that it was pretty closed-door. I mean, why using sex-language and dick and getting hard and getting into their (interrupted) shared hot high-school experience quite graphicly and then depriving (no! robbing!!) the listener/reader of the actual hookup scene? Again, pity!
Anyway, great narration by Teddy Hamilton for this. Glad to finally get him in a single narration (okay it also was only single POV).

Cooper comes back home to be the bridesmate of his BFF and quickly finds himself confronted by his highschool crush - ginger jock hottie Will Baker who’s now the town’s deputy. Seems like those old lusty feelings haven’t died down one bit and it also seems Will too, hasn’t forgotten their steamy secret kiss almost a decade ago.
Ensue some silly shenanigans and pratfalls with some long overdue swoony proclamations with a wonderful epilogue. A fabulous listen by Teddy Hamilton, this is an easy sexy sweet way to spend an hour of your free time! Do it!
I think for how short this was, this novella developed something special at first, BUT THEN they had THE STUPIDEST FIGHT in the history of stupid fights, because it could have been solved with 1 sentence of "I didn't give you the wrong number" and no fight would have ensued.......... but where's the drama in that I guess??? 🙄🙄🙄🙄 BUT WHAT A SHAME, BECAUSE THE SET UP FOR TENSION FROM THAT BACK STORY WAS JUICY AS FUUUUUUUUUUCK! and the fight lowkey ruined the vibes.
I reckon with some fleshing out into a proper novel, this would have had the potential for way more 4-5 star reviews. Or even just an extra 15 pages with a fight that had a logical reason could have made a world of difference to it's ratings.
Still enjoyable for what it was though. Would recommend when you need a quick audio or novella in your life and have limited brain cells. hehehehe 💖
Super fun and cute audiobook novella that has left me wanting more. I have never read anything by Sydney Smyth or listened to anything by Teddy Hamilton, but I declare myself a fan of both from now on.
A sweet, romantic little novella, featuring a likeable protagonist and love interest. It is a little too short to see any major character development, but the revelations within are heartwarming and sensitively portrayed.
Super cute and sweet audiobook Novella narrated by the amazingly talented Teddy Hamilton. Definitely left me wanting more. This was a super quick listen. Totally recommend!
This was one of the best short stories I have ever read! There was so much emotion, backstory and giggles (even a couple super sexy scenes) in here. The only thing I wanted was MORE MORE MORE!!!
All through high school Cooper had a crush on Will Baker. He was the good looking football player that all the girls wanted, well and also Cooper too. They shared one moment that Cooper will never forget, it's one of his most cherished memories from high school.
The next time their paths cross is years later when Cooper returns to his home town to be bridesmate to his best friend. Will is still painfully good looking and he now wears a uniform just to add to his allure. However, things have changed a bit, Will is now openly gay and he makes it obvious that 'moment' they had in high school was just as memorable to him and he always finishes what he starts...
I listened to this audiobook this morning while doing some lab work and as always Teddy Hamilton slayed his narration.
This is a super short and super sweet novella, and I mean very SHORT and very SWEET. Teeth achingly.
It was kind of over the top cheesy because it was so short, so you have to suspend your disbelief a little bit but that cheesiness didn’t necessarily make it any less enjoyable.
My biggest wish was that it was longer! I think this plot and trope could have made an excellent full length book where the characters were more fleshed out and there was more development. I know the author made the choice to do a novella but even for a novella it felt a little rushed. I think if this were something more full length it could easily get a 4 or 4.5 star rating from me if the whole thing was as funny and quirky as this was.
It’s only about an hour and a half long to listen and I highly recommend it if you need something to listen to for a short burst of time! Plus, if you love a good Dirty Dancing reference sprinkled in, you’re in luck.
Tequila shots, karaoke, unresolved feelings, and Teddy Hamilton! Add it all up and you get one cute and sexy listen.
When Cooper Evans heads back to his hometown for his best friend’s wedding, he comes face to face with Deputy Sheriff Will Baker. The same Will Baker he crushed on in high school. The same Will Baker he shared a kiss with all those years ago. A kiss he has never forgotten. Couldn't if he tried!
This sweet little listen gets right to it, which I appreciated. Damn sexy even with most of the action *waggles eyebrows* is kept off screen. These two guys have some serious chemistry! And Hamilton’s performance only ups the ante. I loved the way Hamilton says, “Fucking kiss me, Evans.” Very hot!
A quick listen that made me smile. Every growl and grin made an impact!
I needed something quick and easy to listen to while painting my nails and this DELIVERED! The book does what it says on the blurb with the extra benefit of some spice! (It’s only one open door scene but I was expecting none so there's that)
Audiobook narration: 5 stars Teddy Hamilton’s narration was fantastic!
Expect - Forced proximity - Second chance romance - Former crush - Small town - Pining

So me and audio sometimes don't go good lol because I'm so distracted by the voice I miss like few points of the story lol. My sister wanted me to listen to this because she loved it. I do wish we had Will POV.. so I was sad it was only one.
Cooper Cooper.. this man was kinda hard to like.. I felt like he was self absorbed selfish to me..I was glad he came back for his besties wedding!! There few plot points that made me go mmmm.. also 10 years!!!! He hasn't been home.. like dude.. and he runs into his his high school crush ans lorddd 🔥🔥🔥 Will is everything... their connection is very tension but things go pretty fast but there still some push/pull from the two...
Low angst, slight secondary character, Tiny drama, sexy times, no virgins (both have past)
This was a fun listen! After finishing a longer book, I was looking for something shorter and decided to give this one a try. Teddy Hamilton did a fantastic job with the narration of this second chance romance. Cooper and Will were both great characters and I love that they had a history together. I thought that the setup of the story was a lot of fun and enjoyed the fact that there was some humor worked into the story. I would definitely try more of this author's work.
In the end, this was... okay (which is what those two stars mean). I had more than a few stumbles with it; a small town where the there are three sheriffs/deputies in total and two of them are gay men who have dated was my first 'uh-huh' moment, and then one of those men singing a duet at a straight bar on Karaoke night with another guy and then making out with him and neither of them even so much as think about whether or not that's a safe idea or not? Maybe it's the most welcoming small town America has ever seen? As a queer guy, reading scenes like the public-making-out-in-a-small-town-straight-bar just jolt me right out of the narrative.
Now, this was also very short, and that hampered the character growth on this one for me. I love me a short story, but Cooper's emotional arc didn't quite have enough time. His high school first kiss with another guy was amazing, incredible, and with someone he'd crushed out on for a couple of years in high school and then that guy proceeded to completely ignore him for the rest of high school. He is, understandably, wounded by that. And when he's back face-to-face with that fellow, it sometimes has emotional weight, and othertimes just doesn't. He hops into bed with him (admittedly, after getting drunk and making out in said straight bar), and then seems to remember 'wait, this man really hurt me, and doesn't seem to give a shit about it.'
Ultimately, the two men talk it out and it felt very... brushed aside. The final hurdle they had to jump—the love interest dismissing Coop as "just some guy from high school" to his father—lacked enough context to understand why that happened with the love interest's father. "I didn't handle my dad well" is all he really says. Is his father not accepting? (If so, why in the world did his best friend invite the guy's dad to the wedding? Also, the father is the sheriff, so they work together every day, would he really go into that line of work if he and his father aren't good? I really, really didn't understand why he suddenly got cold and cruel just because his father showed up, to the point where I went back and replayed the scene in case I missed something. His father has to know he dated the other deputy. Why couldn't he say this was a friend, rather than "just some guy"?)
Also, for other queer readers, this one had a tonne of "unable to love = you're broken" in it, and that's just not true, and please remember aromantic queer folk exist and not to add to the hate.
4.5 This was so sweet. I wanted more and felt like this definitely could've been a full length novel. I only had one issue and that was the sexual scene between minors. This is an adult book but there's a flashback to when he is a teenager in high school and shared a kiss and a hard-on with another guy. There's explicit detail even thought it's not more than a 3 minute encounter. It left me feeling icky though and could've been a less explicit memory. If it was a YA book, I probably could be excused it, but since it's an adult book it freaked me out.
I find a lot of these cartoon cover, romance books pretty annoying. This one and another, 'when harry met harry' , are free with my audible subscription. I decided to try this much shorter one out before attempting the longer 'when harry met harry'. I don't know if it is because it was so short, but I actually really enjoyed this one. The characters weren't that annoying and the sex scenes were actually sexy.
