For the lovers of The Worst Witch and the magical elements of the Harry Potter series, we introduce a funny book for kids, with a twist of silliness. The Tailor’s Apprentice: Simon and the seven monsters, is the perfect book for children to read aloud.
Ten-year-old Simon cannot believe his luck. He is now the apprentice to Mr. Pennyworth, the most famous of tailor in all of England. What he does not know is that PENNYWORTH’S, is not your average sort of tailor and haberdashery. Leaving Simon to tend the store while he goes in search of a giraffe, Mr. Pennyworth gives Simon a set of written instructions. But something has eaten the last and most important page...What follows is an angry fairy, little monsters, a trip to the ballet house and chaos with every step. Will Simon be able to fix everything before Mr. Pennyworth’s return?
A book parents can read to their children, with the assurance that everyone involved will snicker at least once.
As a child, the author always wondered where folks like Santa Claus got his big bag, or magicians and witches got hats to pull spells out of, or who made DC's The Joker's pants with pockets big enough for unlimited weapons, etc... and finally came to the conclusion that there must be someone who made these magical items. And so the Idea of a Magical Haberdashery and Tailor came into being.
My love of storytelling stems from a time I would entertain my younger brothers with tales of adventure, based on whatever it was they could imagine.
My love of the written word comes from my mother, an English teacher, who taught me to appreciate the art of storytelling, as much as the storytelling itself.
If you do read something of mine, please leave a review! Always love to hear...The good, the bad, and even the nasty! How else can we learn and write more books YOU want to read?
It's probably not pc to say this about a book in this day and age, but I found Simon to be an adorable story, full of mischief and hijinks not seen since the Grinch decided to steal christmas. It is a delightful tale of magic and silliness, with characters that are engaging and endearing at the same time. A definite night time read for young and old alike
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It is very cute and engaging. I had finished the book before realizing it as the time didn't seem to pass as I read. Simon is tossed in the deep end on his first day as an apprentice and ends up learning a lot before Mr. Pennyworth returns. I liked how Mr. Pennyworth wasn't angry with Simon for the mess up and considered it learning about tailoring. I look forward to reading more from this author.
This is a charming story about 10 year old Simon who is given an amazing chance to become a tailor's apprentice but when the owner of the shop decides to go on holiday and leave Simon with only a sheet of instructions how easy will it be for Simon to keep the shop running smoothly? This story is full of magic, fun and little monsters which creates a really beautiful piece of work that is only slightly marked down due to a few little editing issues. I really do look forward to more to come from Simon and the rest of these characters.
What a fantastically absurd little adventure! I loved it! :D
Simon gets in way over his head when his new boss leaves to go and visit some giraffes! Even though he sticks to the instructions, he's brought low by a very unmalicious but naughty little side character. Simon has to use his wits (which he probably didn't know he had), his strength of character (which he definitely got from his mom), and his sudden new friends (which he has no idea how to deal with), to get back control of a very out of control situation.
There is nothing I can fault with this story. I'm not even a kid. Or a parent. And I adored it.
