Not a bad start to the series. It certainly got the blood pumping. I'm totally invested 'cause one of the characters shares their name with my baby sister.
Before this book, I was on a historical fiction binge. I was burned out on the zombie genre. However, Jamie was a promising new author in the zombie scene. So I decided to give her story a shot. I have to say I was impressed. It is a fresh take. I hate to spoil the story, so I won't. I will say I'm happy to have read that her second book is coming out this summer. I look forward to it.
I was lucky enough to be one of the author’s beta reader, and reading it again, was such a treat. I am so excited to read book 2, it can’t come fast enough for me.
Great read! Loved the characters, felt like they could be my friends, my neighbors. I really liked how you see the Zombie apocalypse unfold before their eyes. I can't wait to read book #2!
Very good story. Enough detail and development to carry interest, but without the needless fluff some authors love to add. Looking forward to the next book.
Just finished Urban Gridlock today and can’t wait for book 2. Strong characters, family and kindness to others which doesn’t happen in a lot of zombie books. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jamie weaves a thrilling tale in this the first book of her Chronicles of The Undead Series. The action is nonstop from the opening chapter until the end. I truly enjoyed this book. Once I began, it was hard to put down. That is what every author dreams when they put words to a page. I look forward to the next book in this series. Well done, Jaimie.
Everything you want in a story of this genre.Jaime Hernandez gives you the moment of the horrific pandemic to kick off and a momentous struggle to get back to families.Absolutely awesome first book.
I enjoyed this story very much. Jaime Hernandez keeps things hopping in her first book of Chronicles of the Dead, Urban Gridlock. The story is action packed, following along with Max and Jesse as they fight to get back to their families. Meanwhile, Michelle, with Lucia and Joey are facing dangers of their own while making their way to Anna and Max's house. Anna, with her two kids Camille and Damon fortify the home and keep watch over the neighborhood. Along the way Max and Jesse pick up three other guys and Michelle picks up Emily, who actually plowed into them.
Urban Gridlock kept me up way past my bedtime because I just had to finish it. Now I am left hanging for Book 2 to come out so I can see what happens to Camille as she runs from the horde. And the new group figures out what to do next.
Six stories up during a lunch break, childhood friends Max and Jesse watch their world as they know it come to a crashing halt watching zombies take over the city. Meanwhile back at Max's secluded house, his wife Anna, son Damon and daughter Camille are fortifying the house as Jesse's wife Michelle, son Joey and daughter Lucia prepare for a harrowing journey to join them at the house. What follows is a horrifying tale of Max, Jesse and three fellow survivors, Vince, Frank and Junior's trip through hordes of zombies and many miles to reach the safety of the house. This is the first book I've read by this author but it definitely won't be the last.
This is the first book I read from this author and let me tell you that I loved it! Such a good book with great characters that keeps you obsessed with every page since the first one. The ending of this book.. come on! I just didn´t expect it! Can´t wait to read other books from this great writer! Amazing job! a must-read! A fantastic book that has it all! Well it's 1.50am and I've just finished Urban Gridlock and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. You know when you read a book and your gutted it's finished and you know your left thinking what's next it was a good read. Can't wait for book 2. I'm not going to give the plot away but it's safe to say if our pandemic had zombies I'm already dead! Jaime I hope you hurry with book 2 as you've now got a fan. Zompoc 5*
Fantastic story, great characters and lots of action. Characters quickly draw you in and have you on the edge of your seat . The action and both physical and emotional struggles make this a gripping story. Jamie Hernandez you already joined the ranks of my favorite zompoc authors.
Jaime Hernandez has hit the Zombie Fiction genre with the grace and wherewithal of a well seasoned heavy hitter. This girl holds no punches in her fast-paced, thrilling tale of survival during a challenging Z-Poc outbreak scenario. An avid reader of ZA, I was pleased to see a female writer embrace the genre with the zest of this author. Not only did she create an action-packed gorefest of zombie mayhem and chaos, but she was also able to do so and still create relatable characters who grew as the story unfolded. I cannot wait to devour the next book in this series! Way to go, Jaime!
Great first novel. This story is full of action and keeps you turning the pages. Two men trying to get home to their families when the zombie apocalypse hits are stuck in the middle of downtown Cleveland. The have to fight every step of the way to make it back to their loved ones. Great characters make this a fun read.
This was an excellent book and covered the beginning of a devastating zombie outbreak. The story revolved around Max and Jesse and their families. Both men were caught up in the initial outbreak and the book chronicles their battle to make it home. It also introduces their family members and their struggles to find safety during the first 2 days of the outbreak. The characters were realistic and I look forward to reading the next book.
Great characters that had me rooting for their survival in a crazy Cleveland zombie apocalypse! Lots of action and zombie slaying by divided families striving to survive and reunite! i loved it !
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author did a great job in developing likable characters and a riveting story. I will definitely buy the next book and recommend this book to anyone.
Awesome start to what promises to be a great series!
A slightly different start to the zompoc…it was suddenly everywhere. Max and Jesse are two everyday Joes just doing their job and looking forward to a weekend off. Burgers, beers, swimming, what could be better? Scratch those plans guys. Now you just have to make it home! They meet other survivors on their trek, good people that throw their fate in with our boys. It’s not easy, their fight to live and go home. Tragedy strikes, and then strikes again. Who did we lose? Do they make it home? Is there a home left? Read Urban Gridlock find out.
This book has all you need in a zompoc book. The action is riveting. The characters are compelling. The story is great. I loved it so much I have already preordered her next book.
Love this ,great characters ,adventure, excitement, seat edge stuff and a scene that deserves a movie 2 working guys, sitting on top of a building under construction watching the world go to help below them, that is pure movie.read the book its great, look forward to the next one
I found this book series through an ad on face book. I am pleasantly surprised and I really enjoyed this first book. Max and Jesse are at work when their world changes forever. They have a very long journey ahead to get home to their family. The character development is great. The story line very very good!! Love zombies and action. And regular people just trying to survive and work together for the greater good.
Jamie Hernandez is off to an excellent start with this series. This book features everyday heroes and heroines, not super soldiers or dedicated peppers. Their struggle to survive left me cheering for them. And it's set in Cleveland, Ohio which is another good change up. I am looking forward to the next book in her series.
This is one action packed, terror filled story. Two families, split into three groups, must find a way to survive e and reunite during the beginning of the zombie apocalypse.
In one 24 hour span the world comes crashing down. If you're looking for strange monsters mutated by a virus, or a big global conspiracy story then you'll want to look elsewhere. But if you're looking for an old school end of the world zombie story that would make George Romero proud then this is what you want. A small cast of characters that you can relate to and plenty of zombie action will keep you glued to the finish and leave you wanting more!
I just finished reading this book and now I have to read the next one. It has plenty of action and gives good background on the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes action with some surprising losses (don't want to give anything away) I almost cried when I read due to not expecting this loss. This book is one to read again.
It took a while for the characters to develop for me, I never thought describing every single gorie piece would ever get too much for me but it did. But as I got used to the writing style, it started getting better. so if you get a bit frustrated, keep going. It does get a lot better about half way in.
From start to finish this is a nail biter. As you get deeper into the storyline you feel kinship with the characters. A must read for the true zompoc fan. Grab you bug out bag and join the party.
