USA Today best-selling author Morgana Best survived a childhood of deadly spiders and venomous snakes in the Australian outback. Morgana Best writes cozy mysteries and enjoys thinking of delightful new ways to murder her victims.
It's Christmas Day, but rather than enjoying a fine lunch Thelma is frantically trying to prove that her neighbour is not responsible for a homicide. With a 24-hour deadline, Thelma and her husband Wolff resort to unusual means to solve the crime.
Set in Australia in 1936, this quick read was a fun glimpse into the past. The story itself was adorable and fulfilled its requirements (full beginning, middle, and conclusion) in a believable yet concise manner. It's even better that it is tied to the modern-day Kitchen Witch series.
Thelma is a witch in times where witches were not accepted, and she has to spend her christmas looking for clues to find her best friend's husband's murderer. He has been found in his car and if Thelma does not help her, Mavis could be taken as a suspect. This has been a great novella about the begginings of the great series The kitchen Witch, one of my favorite series from Morgana Best.
So you should start reading this novella and then continue with the whole serie. You wont regret it. Have fun!
Thelma and Wolfe surprise each other with kittens for Christmas. Mavis' husband disappeared last Christmas and the police have just found his car in the dam and his body inside it. Thelma must discover the murderer before the nice policeman goes on a 5 week leave that will be covered by a less than stellar policeman who will take the easy way out and charge Mavis with the crime. The list of suspects is long, but Nama explains that she can discover the truth in Dreamland. Dreamland is reached magically but strange things occur while Thelma visits Dreamland.
Thelma Spelled is a witch in a time where it can cause her severe problems. There were several others as well and they kept it very secret. Her best friend, Mavis’s husband was found murdered from the year prior in the dam in his car. Mavis has asked for Thelma’s help to find the murderer! Poor Thelma and the things she will have to do to help catch the murderer! Especially, on Christmas Day! This novella is the beginning of another series and is a fantastic read!
A charming novella set on Christmas Day in post depression Australia. One of the neighbour’s husband disappeared last Christmas and all assumed he had runoff with a woman. But this year his remains turn up in the local reservoir which has gotten low on water due to drought. Everyone is sure the wife did it, since his last paramour is still in town. Our MC uses native magic to solve the case. Light read.

A well written clean busy entertaining cozey murder mystery. Acquire " A Magical Aussie Christmas " so you yourself can enjoy it as much as I have. 😏😉😀Kat
I love that it is set in Australia. In Aussie language. It is somewhere between a mystery and a paranormal with elements of both without actually being a paranormal mystery. If that makes sense. Anyway I enjoyed reading it. Wanted it to be longer though. Received as a complimentary copy from the author in return for an honest review.
This Novella features Thelma, the great aunt of Kitchen Witch Amelia. Thelma spends a Christmas Day attempting to resolve an old missing person situation that turns out to have been a murder. The setting is unique and the approach to solving the crime is entertaining.
Poor Thelma. In order to gather clues about the murder of her friend's husband, she visits each suspect with truth-spelled Christmas pudding - but she has to eat each meal that she gets offered.
This was okay. It wasn’t amazing but it was good enough for a quick read. I didn’t like the gimmick of how the main character kept inventing things like microwaves because it felt forced.
I loved this book with its twists and turns. Loved the paranormal aspect of it as well. I’m currently reading the Prime Time Crime series and it is good too.
