I’ve read a few books from this author, and wanted to note that her actual writing is really improving a lot, especially compared to her older stuff. I felt that the grammatical/editing issues were much better, (not perfect, but improved) and the plot flowed more naturally. I respect that she takes on subject matter (rejected mates, cheating, etc) that mainstream readers frown upon. 👏👏

This is the story of Wren and Colwyn. The prologue opens with Colwyn’s mate being murdered by a wannabe OW, which hooked me from the start. Then we FFW two years later with Wren and her father preparing to move, and Colwyn hooking up with a she-wolf. (he’s drowning his sorrows in females)

In the past I’ve noted that this author has too much going on, and I didn’t feel that way at all. The plot was streamlined, and I liked all the OW tidbits. (I do love wannabe OW drama) My problem was the pacing, which is REALLY slow. Stuff happens, but there’s a lot of filler stuffed in-between. Like pages and pages of the cooking chores… it didn’t really add much. We knew from the first mention that Kate was taking credit for Wren’s work. My notes reflect that I was bored a lot until about 60%, then it picked up, because the potential couple FINALLY starts interacting.

I felt the ending was rushed, and the whole separation didn’t feel very thought out. They had telephones, and people visit love ones; it just didn’t make sense. Also, the way the “baddie” was handled was unrealistic. It was too nice, they should’ve been angry, not trying to cover for her.

Bottom Line- Not bad, but not great either. It was OK, but rather boring, and I skimmed much of the middle. It’s pretty PG, and the characters don’t act/react as one would expect a grownup to. Like the alpha’s were WAY too laid back… it didn’t fit. Also, it’s not logical that Wren would’ve been left alone if her life was in danger. I guess I would recommend to readers that like some drama, but nothing heavy. Sort of the fluffy bunny version of PNR. I'm rounding up, because I don't want to ruin the rating or beat up the author, but I skimmed a lot, and won't ever re-read.

Wren has found her mate but choses not to act on it primarily out fear. Plus, he seems to be interested in another pack member making it easier for her to not stake her claim.

Colwyn has found his second chance mate but is considering a chosen mate. He does not want the pain of losing another mate.

Second Love contains a great story with multiple subplots and twists. Second Love also contains a lesson about what love should be and shouldn’t be. I think that author put a lot of thought into her characters, especially the main characters and that the story has so much to offer once the author deals with some of the holes in her story.

I really like the story line and most of the characters were for the most part likable. I just feel like there are a few holes in the story, for example where did Imogen disappear to? She just up and disappeared with no explanation like the author just dropped her until the end what was the point of Imogen? Next hole is more like a huge question, how the heck does Kate convince the pack females the she is Colwyn’s mate and that she is a wronged woman? And while we are at it, how did Kate figure out that Wren was a threat to her made up relationship to Colwyn?

Second Love is also needing a lot of editing, there a lot ‘her’ where ‘he’ should be and vise versa. There were a few sentences that I needed to read twice to make sense of them. Editing and filling in holes would definitely smooth out the whole story while improving the it. In the mean time I am giving the Second Love a 2-star a review with the stipulation that if the author ever edits/makes changes to the story I will be happy to read it again and review it again.

Second love…

First off, the ML is named Colwyn. His mate died and in the ensuing years, he has been banging Imogen. Kate has been in love with him forever, and she’s been jealous of Angel, the mate, and Imogen. And now the pack doctor’s daughter has shown up! Wren is a doctor in training.

So Colwyn must be a real looker, because everywhere he goes, some woman falls for him. Wren is ignoring the whole attraction thing and Colwyn just keeps on with other women.

There are lots of things happening in this story. There’s a sadistic rogue alpha who is killing she-wolves, and Wren gets involved in trapping the guy.

Wren gets back from that trap, and someone drugs her to try to get rid of her. It’s actually pretty obvious who it is. But the mate, Angel, has been bound to the world somehow and is able to tell her who killed her.

It’s not really a mess, but there’s definitely a lot going on. KU read, and it’s recommended. This author needs an editor and proofreader, so one star off. It’s good…

It was a good read even if it left me wanting a lot more.

This book needed edits throughout. The majority were real words that just didn’t fit. Using “wonder” instead of “wander” or “they’re” instead of “their” etc. There weren’t many typos but there were issues with real words because uses wrong. Just that simple. “She has seen” instead of “she seen” because what even is that?! “who are mates are” but should be “who our mates are”.

At no point, even when writing a confusing paragraph, was I ever unaware of who killed Angel or who attacked Wren. It was needlessly confusing but not distracting. Like… Kate was a human?! Where did that come from!! Why?

Wren was far too nice to Kate. She didn’t deserve it.

It’s a really blink and you’ll miss it love affair between Colwyn and Wren, which is a shame.

It was a good read even if it left me wanting a lot more.

Different

I liked this, but I didn't like it as well as the previous books the author has written. I diffantly didn't like the ending at all! It didn't fit. Couple having to wait so long to be together. Didn't seem reasonable or realistic, considering their mate's.
I like that the author finally describes the female character as pretty and not dull ,plain and unattractive like she usually does. No one wants to imagine that their that way. The story itself was slow and drawn out. It didn't have its usual feels and excitement like previous ones. There was to much other character view points and not enough of the actual couple that it should be about!

Good plot bad punctuation

The plot was good. Could have made more detailed scenes happy and disturbing ones. Glad the disturbing scenes were cut short but it could have been a little more while still leaving out the most disturbing.
I noticed a lot of words that were present or past tense or otherwise when it should have been different. Several missed words to finish sentences. A lot of missing commas to help the sentences flow and make sense the first read through instead of having to read it a couple times to find the right pauses/breaks.

Interesting story

The story was interesting but the grammatical errors were frustrating. I wish the author would have proofread before publishing. I also wanted more, the whole book was a build the it was over.

I tried to like it

Weak hero and he just to me was not likeable. A pack that the alpha did not control. Disappointing read.
