A Beach, A Bichon Frise, and A Body

Rate this book
“I found myself at the beach on a beautiful balmy night, standing next to a hot guy, while I was holding a cute dog. Sounds like a great evening, doesn’t it? Think about it — a beach, a Bichon Frise, and a handsome man at my side — but unfortunately, there was also a dead body.”

Jessica Tanner the owner of a luxury dog grooming salon in a posh seaside town is woken in the middle of the night to help the police. There’s a dog on the beach with her high-end grooming salon’s logo on its collar. The dog is safe and well. The man who the dog was sitting next to, on the other hand, is dead. The police don’t know who the dead person is and they hope that if Jessica identifies the dog, they’ll get some answers.

Murders don’t happen in pristine San Gabriel. This playground for the very rich, located on Florida’s Treasure Coast, is supposed to be idyllic. Worse yet, it seems the murder could threaten Jessica – both her livelihood and her life are in jeopardy.

Jessica Tanner, a reluctant amateur sleuth, is determined to find the answers before she loses everything she’s worked so hard for. Of course, she’s doing so while grooming dogs, attending to eccentric pet parents, and dancing in a local charity dance competition.

If you love dogs, a touch of romance, quirky characters, and a feisty female sleuth, you’ll want to unravel this cozy mystery along with Jessica. A Beach, A Bichon Frise, and A Body will keep you guessing until the killer is finally revealed.

There is something very special about reading a book written by someone you know; it gives you a glimpse into who they really are. I’ve always know Ms Welhaven loved dogs, and this book was an exceptional showing of that.
The mystery was well thought out and kept you guessing right to the end. But in true cozy style it was the characters that carried the story and kept you glued to the pages. You can’t help but love the main character and the cast in her life, especially all those wonderful dogs! (You got to love Oliver!). The clues are well placed but not obvious and she was able to create the contrast between the rich and those that provide for them in a way that kept you interested. This is a nice start to a cute cozy mystery series, and I look forward to reading the next book. If you love dogs and mysteries, then this book is for you!

This is a fun cozy mystery set on Florida's Treasure Coast. Jessica, who owns a dog grooming salon, finds herself embroiled in a mystery after one of the dogs she grooms is found next to a body on the beach. The dog, a Bichon owned by a wealthy couple, is perfectly written as it captures the personality of a Bichon perfectly. Filled with quirky characters, this is a fun, light read.

A really entertaining story, filled with interesting characters and a touch of humor. I enjoyed the setting that reminded me of the relatively small town in Florida where I grew up. And of course the dogs. A great book for dog lovers.
