Have you ever sat there and thought, it’s too late for me? It’s too late to lose fat. It’s too late to build muscle.
If you have struggled to lose fat If you think it’s your metabolism that is keeping you from reaching your goals If you have tried everything, but nothing seems to work If you feel like it’s too late for you, Then this book is for you
Susan Niebergall, owner of Susan Niebergall Fitness and Co-Coach in Syatt Fitness Inner Circle, has helped thousands of women and men lose fat, build muscle, and look and feel the best they have ever felt. It wasn’t too late for them and it’d definitely not too late for you.
Susan tells her relatable story about her own weight struggles through the decades and how she was finally able to turn it all around well into her fifties. Susan
How she was a clean eater but still couldn’t lose weight How she learned that more is not better when it comes to exercise. How she overcame her misguided beliefs about the scale How losing weight seemed impossible as she aged, but it's really not How we are in total control of our situation no matter how old we are How we think affects everything How you can turn it all around and make progress regardless of your age Her journey was filled with struggles, mistakes, and stumbles that are not uncommon and she shares how when she finally surrounded herself with the right people, the right program and the right mindset, everything changed.
Susan also includes a “How To” section where she tells you exactly how to lose weight through creating modest nutrition guidelines, 5 strength building workouts, and some final messages to let you know that it truly is never too late to change.
Getting older is not easy on a good day, but the good news here is that you are still in control. As Susan shows, no matter how many times you stumbled in your journey, you can’t mess this up unless you quit.
This is a book of inspiration grit and mindset shifts that will show you it can be done no matter how old you are. You can lose fat, build muscle, and feel the best you’ve ever felt. It’s never too late
While the voice and vibe of the book are very nice and empowering, I've found the mix of 90 % autobiography and business advice with 10% talking about nutrition and strength training to be disappointing as I expected it to be the other way around. The 90% percent could have been edited much better in my opinion so that same ideas are not repeated again and again.
I did get a potentially useful nutrition idea from this book, so there was that.
I love following her Instagram and I think she has very sound advice that I have tried to implement in my strength training. I feel like the book could have gotten to the point faster though and I didn’t need all the filler information. Still a fan though.
Now at the age of 30, I am fully aware of the importance of weight training to prevent bone density and muscle mass loss. I have had a few experiences of aching joints and certainly want to prevent that future issue! I love how Niebergall fights back the popular claim that middle-aged women have to inevitably accept that their bodies will be hard to change because of slowing metabolism. She is living proof, as I am sure as well as her clients, that with the proper nutrition and regular weight training program, you can achieve your dream body at any age.
Quick read from a relatable author. Nothing new here however, other than this author's unique route to a fit life (and some killer arms). Eat less than you expend, lift some weights, move more and be patient - consistency is key. Some training plans complete with photos of the moves are helpful.
Susan is only a few years older than I and I did relate to the cultural messages about thinness 80s ladies like us were given along with the wide variety of very bad advice on how to be thin (not healthy, that was secondary - just thin).
Susan has a companion podcast that I enjoy as well.
I loved this book and will probably gift it to some clients of mine when we’re done with our work. Susan is relatable. She tried many diets under the sun and even went to her doctor to find out why she couldn’t lose the weight. She fell in love with strength training and then learned proper nutrition and leaned to manage her weight in a sustainable fashion. Nothing flashy, a simple caloric deficit, strength training, consistency, and patience.
Great read for exercise and weight management enthusiasts!
A great read for anyone wanting to learn more about fitness and nutrition. She describes, from her own experience, how they go hand in glove together. I enjoyed her caloric and protein intake formulas and the sets of exercises to get you going. Whether you are new to exercise or someone who trains regularly, there is something for you in this book.
Interesting, and a great reminder that age is no excuse to stop doing something of even start something new!
I'm not a fan of the example workouts, simply because they ask to do a circuit as many times as possible within a certain time frame (with good form), and form is just the first thing out the door for most once time pressure comes in (knowing myself, that's how it would go), but I've got good workout programs, and have been (humbly) reminded to just trust the process!
Meh. I like Susan a lot, and enjoy her content on IG and her sporadic podcasts, but this was more a story of how she was unfit, tried all the wrong ways first to get fit, then she did get fit. Eat lots of protein, reduce calories and get in a deficit if you want to lose body fat, and exercise. There, I saved you reading this.
Enjoy listening to Suzanne and Jordan on their podcast and admire the amazing shape Suzanne is in. I enjoyed reading this again, she gives plain language easy to understand advice and that really comes across. A tiny tiny bit repetitive on one phrase she uses 🤣 but as this is a reread it hasn’t put me off!!
Easy to understand and effectively shares her journey in a way that most women struggle with regarding their weight, nutrition and how to look and feel their best at any age.
I appreciate Susan's journey to being fit. I think many can relate to seeking the holy grail to discover how to lose weight in middle age. I look forward to applying Susan's techniques!
I easily ready this in 2 sittings. I love following her on Instagram and didn’t learn a lot new since I’m also part of her Inner Circle but it was great to hear her story and have all of the simple (not easy) facts all together. Highly recommend.
When I read this book I felt like I was reading a story about my past, we did so many of the same things and learned from our mistakes. Great book easy to read and relate to
I have to say some of this was disappointing. It seemed like a advertisement or a lost leader for her business. I liked her story, and I love her target audience.
Do you need to know what REALLY works for weight loss as you age? It’s in here. The truth. No lotions, potions, pills, cleanses or pink drinks. Work and working your body. Susan tells the truth...are you willing to listen?
Yup! the morale booster for anyone who wants to get fit, despite the failures of fad diets, fake-fitness influencers from instagram and misleading bro culture information!

If you’re a fan of Susan’s content, you will love this book. If you’re not already a fan of her content, what are you doing? Go look her up! While I fully understand I’m not the target audience for this book (I’m in the age bracket young enough to be her child and a lot of cultural references are from before my time) her story is relatable and her advice is sound, concise, and inspiring.
Her stories of trying and “spinning the wheels” are relatable to any reader regardless of their age. We’ve all experienced times when we try something, think we’re doing it perfectly, then fail to meet our goals (or actively deter us from our goals) without really knowing why. She says she’s done it all and she means it!
This is a really great read and came out at just the right time, especially with it being the beginning of a new year and many people are potentially looking to get fitter, lose some weight, or gain some muscle. Read Susan’s story, take some notes or make some highlights. You won’t be sorry.
Fantastic book. Breaks down strength training and nutrition in an extremely down-to-earth and practical way. Look at Susan-she knows what she’s talking about. It’s so motivating to hear this advice and see these results in a middle aged woman—rock on Susan! I’m going to give this a try.
