Trouble Don't Set Up Like Rain

Rate this book
At the funeral of his girlfriend’s father, Johnny finds himself having a connection with another woman.

As he comically narrates us through his life, we see the sorrowful crumbling of one relationship and the blossoming of a new one. The story flicks back and forth from the past to the present in quick succession as Johnny recalls moments that have shaped his character, and memories that still irk him or hurt him.

The man is cynical; irritated by the world and seemingly most people living in it.

This novel is a romance. It’s a comedy. It’s a character assassination of people who we know and who we are. It’s a glimpse into the mind of a man who has lived. It’s Johnny’s life. But it’s all our lives. And in life... TROUBLE DON’T SET UP LIKE RAIN.

This is a brilliant book with a lot of wit and heart. It's humorous but also talks about real people, situations and emotions with such truth. From the very beginning you're drawn into the story by the funny honesty of the narrator who often voices similar thoughts that many of us also have . You can relate to the characters and grow to care about them and their relationships too, wanting to read more. I laughed out loud at many moments, and the more conversational writing style adds a certain charm . Overall its a great story, and you won't be disappointed with this read.

Great debut novel!

Loved this, great read!
We all know a Johnny, or have a bit of Johnny in us, and this book delves deep into why Jonny is this way! The author uses Johnny as an exaggerated mirror of himself perfectly, and this novel is as educational as it is exciting and not to mention extremely funny!

Couldn’t put the bloody thing down! The characters were engaging and you came away from the book with the real sense that these characters were real. Thought provoking, with a true look at life and love from the male perspective... saying this the love story was almost more intriguing, the romantic moments were not missed or passed over. I think we have just witnessed the rebirth of the romantic comedy. Be prepared if you’re reading in public to be given funny looks for laughing uncontrollably in one breath and trying not to cry in the next. True masterpiece !
